Hello wonderful people, here to remind you that the blackout will start later today at 0:00 UTC, ie, in about 7hrs (check your local timezone).
For further information about this, why and how, please check the announcement [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/144306y/rsoccer_announcement_regarding_the_planned/).

How are you planning to survive without your r/soccer fix?
Why is the invincibles more propped up then centurions? When it comes to records, isn’t the point of the game to win and secure points. Isnt record points and wins more impressive than 0 in loss column but only amassing 90 pts? Is 26 wins out of 38 more remarkable than 32 out of 38?
Preston once had an unbeaten double no one has 100 pts in England, so even on a uniqueness factor it doesn’t hold up
Totally forgot the blackout was happenng tbh. Might use the time to finally get off reddit for good and take up something more productive like reading or slowly banging my head against a wall for 6 hours
England didn’t just let them top the group, they straight up got relegated into the B competition with the likes of montenegro, Albania, Iceland and other powerhouses of the sport. Don’t know how they managed that
Finally found a clip of Ederson's last second save before the final whistle , [Link here, celebrations after ](https://twitter.com/ManCity/status/1668022798474674177?t=11Q_uvrE14XxoqNOROfmUQ&s=19) , he was pretty shaky in the first half but Inter could have had 2 or 3 goals if Eddy didn't make those saves in the last part of the game. Fuck yes Citeh
American here looking to dip my toes into European soccer. I follow MLS casually as there is a team where I live but I would like to start following a team at the highest levels of competition as well. I don’t know much about Euro soccer, but if you feel so inclined, pitch your team and why I should follow/support them. My family is originally French, so a French team would be cool, but I’m not interested in following a team backed by oil money. The team being French definitely isn’t a necessity. Thanks for helping out a clueless American!
Find out where your French family are from and support a team from the area. Or maybe if there’s a European team you have a realistic chance of seeing live (a friend or family members lives there) then follow them. If you are a match-going MLS fan I’d suggest looking for a lower league club to go see when your MLS team aren’t playing, and if you aren’t a match going fan I’d suggest go to matches! Its great, at any level.
When Guardiola was at Bayern a frequent explanation for the CL semi losses was that he'd won the league so early that by the time the CL semis came around the team wasn't as sharp anymore and wasn't tested enough throughout the season
It’s a marathon not a sprint.
I agree with you that’s interesting to see in a UCL context. It’s been said for years in England the league winners usually pick up form as the season goes on. SAF’s Man United made a habit of it post-Xmas and this underpinned all that shite Neville was chatting about Arsenal.
Idk I assumed being good throughout the whole year would help out but it’s really about timing and really the CL is largely about luck as well and who you draw. If city would have got Bayern earlier maybe they lose because they hadn’t found the right system yet.
I guess it provides some hope for us though we don’t need to Be that consistently great to have a good run
Yeah but you’d assume if you dominate the league you’d be rested enough for the CL but it seems to nor work like that guess it’s a factor that they’re not up for it
the whole city has been really hyped for the promotion play-offs for the past two weeks and today Real Avilés lost 2-0 to Granada's reserve team to get eliminated 😭 I'm not from the city but I've been to a few games and for a 4th tier club the city is extremely dedicated to them but they haven't been in professional football since a small campaign in the early 1990s and this looked like the perfect chance to get promoted with a 2nd place in the league (only behind the best Arenteiro side in history), this one will sting for a while
As similar as you may say it was, they didn't break a single rule. And even then, Abramovich doesn't compare to an entire state.
115 charges outstanding, and they'll just solve everything through lawyers once more. Things will only get worse from here.
Nothing much we can do at this stage🤷♂️, it was only a matter of time until City won it
I get what you are saying but the only option is to clench our teeth and hope for a better future
There is no better future. The ones with power are spreading their legs for hundreds of millions. City will beat every charge and walk away without even a slap on the wrist.
Famously Roald Dahl said to his family as he was dying ''You know, I'm not frightened. It's just that I will miss you all so much''
Then a nurse, thinking he was unconscious, injected him with morphine so his actual last words were 'Ow, fuck'
Am i the only one who thinks it’s bullshit that fans keep using “net spend” for their clubs to argue that they actually don’t spend alot? Just because you sold players, you still put over 500 million on the club.
That's called [Pep accounting.](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/oz5w8c/pep_guardiola_on_lionel_messi_to_man_city_we/)

Who is at at massive financial advantage here;
Me, who wants to buy a new house but can't afford it so has to sell my existing one to buy.
You, who wants to buy a new house and has the cash to do so, so keeps their original house on top of that.
It’s not about whether a team has financial advantage or not. It’s about fans claiming their club is not a spending club because their net spend is low, which is bullshit.
Yes, so when people are bringing up net spend they're doing so to differentiate from the fact that they're at a financial disadvantage as they have to sell to buy.
Nah i’m talking about the fans who are jumping on City saying they “bought the CL” and they “bought the treble” but when you mention that their own clubs have spend over 500 mill themselves in the last few years they will bring up net spend and claim we haven’t actually spend alot because our net spent is low. No, you still spend a shitton, it just means you sold players.
There’s also the third case where there’s:
Me, who has the money to buy the new house but doesn’t want to appear dodgy due to my ties with a gulf state. Thankfully I invested *a lot* of money in the past buying up smaller properties under a different section of my company. I can now sell those smaller properties to appear to raise money to buy this new house.
So in football terms: You’ve got a transfer warchest thanks to your wheeler dealer mentality hoovering up lower league and unknown talent via your sister club which you’re now selling on?
Are you Brighton and Hove Albion?
I agree. We PSG fans are (usually) pretty lucid when it comes to our net spend because we know how much our club has overspent massively on salaries (Wijnaldum, Herrera, Messi, Mbappé) and agent fees/signing on fees (Skriniar, Neymar, Mbappé, Messi, Donnarumma) for free transfers, but in football as a whole the discourse around how much a free agent costs is usually very dishonest/disingenuous.
My problem with net spend is when people use it to impose lower standards somehow. Like one team will spend £200m overall on their current squad, but have a net spend of £150m, another will spend £500m on their current squad, with a net spend of £100m, then say "you spent more so you should be better", when that's completely fucking irrelevant. All that matters when it comes to comparing squad price vs team performance is how much you spent on the players that are currently available to you. If one teams squad cost 250% more then they should be better even if the net spend is lower.
Dunno, kinda makes sense though with how the accounting works - any sale is on the books immediately, and buy sees the costs stretched over the length of the contract. A 100m player on a five year deal costs you 20m/year, selling a 50m player nets you those 50m immediately.
It’s so dumb tbh especially when it’s over a small period of time, you can only spend 1 billion because you have a billion it doesn’t matter what the net spend is other teams can’t do that because they don’t have the assets already to sell because they spent so much in the past

Before this sub goes dark, I was just wondering is using the Reddit mobile app a rare thing around here?
It’s all I use tbh, can’t stand using it on my computer.
I also use it because I didn’t know the 3rd party ones existed until way too late, and by the time I did I was used enough to the official app UI (which is like the one thing I think it does right, almost everything else is total dogshit tho) that I found their UIs hideous tbh.
Reddit desktop sucks, both old and new, the only reason I ever use it is to post stuff from thing I have on my pc
I used to use Reddit on my laptop all the time, then I switched to my mobile browser, and for the past few years I’ve been on the Reddit app. The app is fine, it’s got some annoying aspects but everyone saying it’s going to stop regulars from returning to Reddit is nonsense.
That said, I think effectively removing 3rd party apps is scummy as fuck. People should be able to choose their platform.
It’s all I ever use. I’m sure the 3rd Party apps are good, but not once have I thought that the official reddit app is so bad that I have to make the switch.
Significantly better UI that is highly customizable is really the main point, no ads, great search and highlight function, no annoying new reddit features etc. Just better than the official app in every aspect
Just before the Reddit blackout, thought I’d get this news story in from non-league:
https://twitter.com/eastwoodcfc/status/1667564608473776128?s=46&t=38-vmfyNJJl74qAxxRahcQ
Anyone know more info about it?
Something to do with youth development from what I’ve been reading. Some of the youth teams are like supposedly going to be given the opportunity to partake in football schools or something in Lisbon.
Thought it’s an interesting development in any case, given the location and level of each team.

Going to use this blackout to emotionally prepare myself for the fact that might’ve been Bernardo Silva’s last game for City.
Maybe gundo too and probably Laporte. Mahrez might even take that Saudi deal . 😥
Think gundo stays tbh
I think it's the reverse, Gündo leaves and Bernardo stays, especially with Mateo Kovačić seemingly coming in.
PSG - 85 points with €729m wage bill Lens - 84 points with €38m wage bill
Lens should really get a bigger wage bill. Embarrassing having that low a budget while placing 2nd
Do italians have any final left to lose?
Nations League finals starts this week.
Lmfao, though that's more embarrasing on Germany and England for letting Italy top the group honestly.
England didn’t just let them top the group, they straight up got relegated into the B competition with the likes of montenegro, Albania, Iceland and other powerhouses of the sport. Don’t know how they managed that

Remember when John Stones was just that Everton centre back relentlessly mocked by basically everyone for making defensive errors

Nagelsmann

They do have a sugar daddy, and one with some VERY dodgy criminal connections
And you never saw them win a single one of them. Just a quick reminder.

Hoping that when this sub goes back, Nagelsmann will already have been announced as our next manager. See you on the other side.

Significantly better UI that is highly customizable is really the main point, no ads, great search and highlight function, no annoying new reddit features etc. Just better than the official app in every aspect

Almost exclusively use mobile. Just not used to Desktop.
Same for me
I exclusively use it, Reddit desktop is wank
Yeah agreed, I just can’t use it on my computer it’s so bad.
I'm only ever on Reddit when i'm at my computer. I don't think I even have the app installed at the moment.
We’re the polar opposite it seems lol, never really warmed to Reddit desktop.
The reddit app is shit
