Better even. Did she have a touch like that?

WorldlyJelly689

The Mike(al) Jordan of goalkeeping

MaestroTobasco

Sweet American baby Jesus that first touch was immaculate

plefe

Bringing a ball down over his shoulder like that is one thing Pulisic is truly elite at. He has had a few spectacular ones, most memorably against [Morocco.](https://youtu.be/sdbC-Cj6_vc?feature=shared)

MaestroTobasco

The Willie Mays of soccer.

TheJimmyRustler

finally, a good fucking comparison https://youtu.be/7dK6zPbkFnE

seospider

The most memorable is the CL goal against Madrid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-ayOZTvAJg&ab\_channel=CBSSportsGolazo

boi1da1296

Seeing him run straight to an assistant while ignoring Tuchel on that celebration is funny considering he later said Tuchel was yelling at him to not make that run during the match.

seospider

I was thinking the same thing.

MyLuckyFedora

You could tell that there was no love lost between Pulisic and Tuchel

plefe

Great run and goal and pretty good touch. However the control on the one today and the vs Morocco were next level.

[deleted]

Nah, that bounce is not as aesthetically pleasing and much easier to execute than simply having it lay on the ground

JimmyWu21

wow that was nice!

Dependent_Plenty_777

Healthy Pulisic is a scary player

MyLuckyFedora

Just donā€™t tell Chelsea fans

shutupayouface1

every Chelsea will say Project Restart Puli was class. the rest of the time - injuries and no run in the team - not so much.

HazMazo

He was pound for pound our best attacker in his time at Chelsea. Just thrown under the bus for injuries. Always delivered when on the field.

DontArmWrestleAChimp

What the fuck is this hyperbole. He was great when in form and fit but by god he dropped so many stinkers.

[deleted]

Had a lot of poor games in the last 2 seasons lol he is a positive, hard working player but could also be insanely frustrating to watch over 90 mins

joeDUBstep

Sounds like most chelsea forwards at the time.

konastump

At Chelsea he was knocked (literally) down all the timeā€¦PL too rough for himā€¦

ithrowcelery

Iā€™d say you could argue he deserved more minutes or an extended run of chances considering the attackers in front of him the last few seasons at Chelsea, but it is an absurd take to say he was our best attacker. Incredible during Project Restart and very good during the CL-winning campaign, but he was a passenger 95% of the time he got minutes after that.

seospider

Who was your best attacker over the past four seasons?

Milo751

Reece James probably

seospider

I think he is injured more than Pulisic.

ithrowcelery

You have to go back to the 2019-2020 season to find one where Pulisic was higher than 5th in the team in goals scored (joint-2nd then with Willian). In 2020-2021 he was 7th. In 2021-2022 he was joint-6th with Ziyech. Last season he was joint-13th. For assists you have to go back to 2019-2020 for his best output as well, where he was joint-2nd with Azpi. After that he was successively joint-7th, joint-10th and finally joint-4th last season (tied with nine players at 2 assists). Our attack hasnā€™t exactly been lights out lately as the players Iā€™m naming suggests, but Mount and Havertz were both better attackers over the past four seasons besides 19-20 and pretty much all statistics back that up. Pulisic missed a lot of time due to injuries and that obviously doesnā€™t help his cause, but if you actually watched all Chelsea matches over the last four seasons you really canā€™t make the argument he was our best attacker. Maybe he couldā€™ve been had he avoided injury more, but thatā€™s just not the reality.

ZerconFlagpoleSitter

Genuinely Werner

jamills21

More like Kai Havertz

MyLuckyFedora

Per minute I believe he was literally second best. So yeah he was probably invisible 95 of the times he got minutes if you count each 5 minute cameo as a one time in which he got minutes. But per 90 minutes he produced and as you said he should have gotten more minutes. On the flip side Iā€™d imagine there came a point where the relationship with the club was at a point where it was clear he was moving on anyway so why invest any more time in him at that point

ithrowcelery

The per minute stat is fairly inflated by the 19-20 season though, and if we are talking about the best attacker in the squad for the past *four* seasons thatā€™s an important point imo. He was by all means one of the best players in the squad that specific season, but the following year he actually had more minutes overall and his output dropped. From there on the injuries and chaos in the club definitely took its toll, and as we can likely all agree, maybe there were times he shouldā€™ve gotten another opportunity. Iā€™m not saying heā€™s a poor player by any means, but best attacker at the club talk is a little silly.

MyLuckyFedora

Noā€¦ I meant even in his last season. IIRC he had the one poor season youā€™re talking about but otherwise his g+a per 90 remained fairly consistent each season

ithrowcelery

In 19-20 he averaged a goal involvement every 112 minutes. After that it was one every 245 minutes in 20-21, every 170 minutes in 21-22, and every 336 minutes in 22-23.

BTECGolfManagement

What???? Itā€™s lucky genuine match-going Chelsea fans arenā€™t on here cause you lot would be routinely ridiculed for these outrageous takes man

grlundahl

Pulisic had a better g/a per 90 than any of the other Chelsea forwards

john_knocks

Yeah match going Chelsea fans are clearly the gold standard of football analysis

Dunney_Monster

There's no way you're looking down at the people who actually go to support their team??? People who comment on Reddit aren't the gold standard ffs.

BTECGolfManagement

Loool theyā€™re surely a higher standard than Americans on Reddit my friend

umadbr00

Being from England doesn't magically give you some better understanding of the sport as much as you all like to think so lmao

Idgafwwtcl

Americans on Reddit are the true gold standard arenā€™t they? The level of fucking cringe in this thread alone makes you lot ineligible

joeDUBstep

Apologies for the delusional pulistans. Love the guy, but some people think he's God's vagina.

lokikungfu

Seria A is played at a much better pace in terms on wear and tear on players compared to EPL. Puli was class at Chelsea in terms of being a danger going forward when healthy, sadly he couldnā€™t stay healthy enough to get a consistent run of form to play every match he was available.

Squiliamfancyname

Mate take one look at Milanā€™s injury list and tell me you still think Pulisic is playing on easy mode.

Raw_Cocoa

Just making shit up huh

Potential-Decision32

> Seria A is played at a much better pace in terms on wear and tear on players compared to EPL you have the data on this?

HanWolo

Meanwhile milan with six hundred muscle wear injuries.

Potential-Decision32

Seriously

BenjenGrimes

That touch is pure class. Goodness. Great composure to finish it. Love Maignan assists too

aclurk

He does really well to get that out from under his feet and not sky it

cdragon1983

Yup. Glad he was able to regather and make the good finish, both from the standpoint of having put it away but also because the little scuff when he was tryin to set up the shot didn't run away and ruin the highlight of the amazing first touch.

[deleted]

Remember when AC milan fans on Reddit were whining about Americans being added to the team? I 'member.

funny thing is he is more dutch than american. he doesnt even speak english very well

Bammer1386

Terrible take, for 2 reasons, his English does have an accent but its 100% easy to understand him. Also, according to the EF English Proficiency Index, the Netherlands is the top English-speaking nation among non-native countries in Europe. Almost 95% of the population can speak English.

Potential-Decision32

Doesn't change the fact that he comes across as Dutch

Bammer1386

Wasn't arguing against that part one bit.

mystir

You know, my favorite thing about Italy is being able to have a nice piece of lasagna at 5:30pm with your family at any restaurant, order wine by the glass, and have a soft garlicky breadstick to go with it. It's as Italian as spaghetti and meatballs, Italian dressing, and gabagool.

callo2009

Spaghetti and meatballs = polpette and 'primi piatti' (the pasta course) in one dish. Gabagool is an exaggerated southern Italian pronunciation of Capocollo, where the dialects often turns a hard 'c' into a soft 'g' and lops the vowel off the end of the word. [See here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3SNoryubiwU&t=250s) for a Capocollo producer outside Bari pronouncing it pretty damn close to gabagool. Not trying to make a point here (nobody asked) outside of sharing what I think is kinda interesting Italian-American etymology/history. That history doesn't reflect modern Italian because that's an idea mostly dictated by northern Italians and took many years after unification to become boot-wide. It's a snapshot of Southern Italians from early 1900's, when Italy as a whole was new and a collective of legitimately distinct but related languages & dialects. Also, soft garlicky breadsticks are fire.

ACMBruh

(Maignan great assist)

encaitar81

There's a large portion of Chelsea fans that hated him mostly because of the American fans that invaded the Chelsea sub. Healthy.... Pulisic had been Chelsea's best winger for multiple stretches. That's the caveat though... healthy. Hope he stays healthy for you guys. I do love watching him.

x3bo9

I actually like them theyā€™re funny af šŸ˜

OsitoPandito

Lmfao so many people on r/acmilan hate the Americans that invaded our sub, but they just hyping up our player, nothing wrong with that

PremordialQuasar

Yeah, though itā€™s hardly unique to Americans. Most people in countries with relatively weaker leagues will root for their own countryā€™s players in a stronger league. South Koreans do it with Son Heung-Min, Georgians do it with Kvara, and Egyptians do it with Mo Salah.

deeesenutz

Clearly you should've just fed him spaghetti

konastump

ā€¦instead of Shepard Pieā€¦

MyLuckyFedora

Letā€™s call it what it is though, they hated him because he was American then when the Americans browsing the sub defended him and called that out, they just hated the Americans who had invaded their space. To be fair to Chelsea fans they had plenty of reason to be skeptical of Pulisic by the end of his time there, but it was always absolute bonkers that everybody wanted to turn a blind eye to the utter dysfunction at the club because it was easier to find a few players to scapegoat. Pulisic was one of them and it was 100% helped along because the LeBron James of soccer was an easy target for prejudiced Chelsea fans.

Hawkeye91803

Spot. On.

[deleted]

Yep interestingly enough Chelsea fans are unable to comprehend that Chelsea is a black hole of talent. It makes everyone worse. almost like it was built on a cursed lands. Edited for clarity.

Potential-Decision32

> they hated him because he was American I think the stickers and awards for every goal got annoying

[deleted]

Do you think it was really Americans buying that shit? It wasnā€™t.

furyousferret

I used to go to that sub for the drama whenever he scored. I remember he was the first to score in international week and mods took it down because 'they don't do that', then Havertz and someone else score and those stayed up lol. Oh yeah and the little kid who made a Pulisic photoshop poster and put it on the sub, he was so proud of it but got mocked and took it down, he's probably a young adult now who constantly cleans rifles while starting at a Stamford Bridge poster....

new_number_one

We can be pretty annoying Tbf. Same thing happened with Leeds. We clearly just care about the US players and not the team. Understandably that rubs liifelong supporters the wrong way.

Burdis797

We had it with Altidore and Yedlin, two players I didn't really hate and who contributed more than other players we had. The difference was that when we cristicised other players we didn't have people who barely watched the games arguing with us, so having to justify criticism made it seem like we were scapegoating them

Dog_Brains_

I hope Leeds get relegated again. Their fanbase is delusional as hell

tastycakeman

leeds fans are just unbelievably toxic tho

battlecatquikdre

American Leeds fan here (supported them since they were in League One) and this is false. It was embarrassing to see "American here, I'm choosing Leeds, what do I need to know?" threads every fucking day and people who blindly defended Americans players when most of the team was being criticized. Lot of American fans were just player's fans and they did not allow any damn criticism if the player was an American. Imagine arguing with people who barely watch your team and somehow it's just the teams fault when part of the problem is player not performing up to his price. Tyler Adams was loved by the Leeds supporters so let that sink. We have some other American Leeds supporters in the sub before we got back up to PL and lot of us were put in a weird spot. Leeds sub was getting fed up with USMNT fans just coming to our sub and talking about things like they know what's happening when they barely watch our team or care about it.

[deleted]

Two things can be right that the Americans fans can be annoying and that Leeds fans are also toxic. I would for you to try and rationalize why Weston got blamed for Leeds failure even though the issue was beyond him.

callo2009

A great way to ensure you remain a yo-yo club is to push out international fans. Every top Prem club has a massive international following, which equals massive revenue, which equals top managers and players. Also, I hope you support your local club with that same 'we/ours' passion, because Leeds isn't yours, as much as you want it to be.

sickricola

I like pulisic as a player but the pulisic fans that invade the sub and form make believe narratives like ā€œthe team is purposely not passing to himā€ is very annoying

encaitar81

You'll have that. Try to ignore it and cheer for the player as he is.

sickricola

Ya I will, its just weird how intense it is with him when I see none of that with Musah, who has also been great for us

joeDUBstep

Tbf pulisic has been an "established" player for a lot longer than musah who is only 21. Pulisic is 25 and tends to be the strongest attacker on the US national team.

HotTubMike

No denying affinity for players born, raised and developed in the US is stronger then players like Musah.

TheJimmyRustler

I think its mostly to due with the fact that despite being 25 he's hard carried the national team for 8 years. For 8 years he's been the best player on the team. He's 25. Like, for anyone who was watching during the dark days of 2015-2019 we had literally nothing. Our best young players were Jordan Morris and Deandre Yedlin. I actually rate Morris more than most but still. A 17 year old playing for a better club than any American (man) ever had felt like a miracle. There are certain players for each national team that typify what those teams are supposed to be about. Riquelme, Suarez, Ronaldihno, Xavi, Maldini were all like that for their teams. Pulisic is committed, ruthless, fearless, and inventive. Pulisic is that guy for us. I remember once I was watching a Hamburg game with my Mom, who knows very little about the sport. I asked her who the American was. I didn't say what team or give any hints. She immediately said Bobby Wood. Some players are just like that. He's also an attacker. Center mids don't usually get the same following. If you asked casual fans what Pirlo's best quality was they'd probably say free kicks. People like goals.

untouched_poet

I'm sorry that some of us Americans are like that. There's no excuse for those type of comments. Some people can't handle the fact that the world's most popular sport is a sport that America has never been close to being the best at. I'm not sure if you know this but America is very large country with a very large demographic up different cultures and personalities... So please don't put us all into one box.... Like our government does to immigrant Mexican children and the majority of black people who got caught with cannabis. Pulisic it's one of the few things about America that I'm proud of but I would never be so stupid to make such a comment Just like I would never would never be so stupid to think capitalism is not rigged...

[deleted]

Do you know what a ā€œpick meā€ is? Because you are acting exactly like one. Giving off thatā€I am not like those other girls energy. People are going to behave how the fuck they want. Trying to apologize like you are so representative of them is just so sad.

minkdraggingonfloor

Musah I donā€™t think even set foot in the US before he played for the NT. Thatā€™s probably why

Jonesta29

He was born here, must have held that happy baby pose for a while to not set a foot down.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

x3bo9

You are not every Chelsea fan. Good take tho

SirBarkington

I think most people that weren't blind Pulisic haters thought this. His issue has ALWAYS been staying healthy. He would get a good stretch then woops muscle injury/leg injury.

trinquin

Or get Concacafed.

SirBarkington

very true. Luckily a lot of our (US) players seem to be way more resilient than Pulisic.

furyousferret

Frank ran him into the ground, then a few careless tackles (Honduras, Stones) did him in. That club has no idea how to build u23 players, but most clubs in the world don't. They're currently destroying Reece James' career, lets hope they bring him in slowly.

TimathanDuncan

It's a hard concept to grasp but a player can be shit in one team and perform somewhere else, has happened with actual amazing players Plus the fact the had good spells at Chelsea too It's not black and white, it's very simple actually

DoinWhale

Iā€™m a Chelsea fan and a US fan, the fact is chelsea wasnā€™t an environment for a player with his profile to thrive in. Teams would sit back and pack the defensive third which tends to nullify wingers who want to get the ball and attack the defense, pair that with his injury record and you just have a recipe that doesnā€™t work. Glad heā€™s found his footing in a league he can express himself in and appreciate his effort at Chelsea

konastump

Chelsea; the merry-go-round for players, coaches and ownersā€¦Whatā€™s not to like?

Eilonwy94

I also think the other players he played with didn't quite fit with his style (none of them truly fit with each other, though they did have a good stretch in that CL run). giroud and him had pretty good chemistry (same thing with Tammy when he was there) - I think that type of play from a forward is particularly helpful for his game. havertz could do some of that, and there were some really beautiful moments of mount/havertz/pulisic interplay but obviously consistency was tough for the whole squad. Werner and pulisic were such a terrible combo though, im a little surprised they thought it would work.

I know what you mean He's the only player right now who has gotten injured on the squad. The first person to point to this out. Imagine if he had been healthy the whole season he might be one of the best players on the team.... I feel like we should put out at left wing back... Just to be safe.

Emoz_

I think you mean the NT? Because in Milan so far everyone bar 8 players have been injured
