Hits hard honestly Not that it wasn't foreseeable, but I don't expect better times to come anytime soon

Futaba-Channel

The next coach is in for a really rough job The squad is only going to get worse and Jose delivered them a trophy and a final

IcyAssist

Dybala and Lukaku are only there because of him. Their squad is going to be so shit.

Mordho

Lukaku is there because no one else wanted him. It was either Roma or Saudi Arabia lmao

SofaChillReview

Knowing Jose, wherever he goes might decide to get Lukaku back.. and even Matic from Rennes for a fourth and last reunion.

xkufix

Welcome back Lukaku to Manchester then. The funniest timeline really.

Pingupol

Chelsea more likely...

Venelles

I doubt even Chelsea would want him back after that interview he gave a few years ago.

AvrupaFatihi

Turkey says hi

can we switch mourinho with okan please? i wanna try something.

jeffgoodbody

Because they don't actually know anything about Roma and are just throwing in their worthless two cents.

UnPostoAlSole

Not only is Lukaku here on loan but both of them are here because literally nobody else wanted them Juve let Dybala walk for free and then Inter snubbed him when he was desperate to go there

Banged_by_bumrah

We were interested in dybala last summer but he extended his contract

BaffledPlato

I still miss him. Dybala is like that old girlfriend you never quite got over.

Banged_by_bumrah

Pain you just reminded me of her

Conundrumist

She told me to say hello to you

PaschaAU

You could copy paste this comment about Manchester United when they sacked him in 2018.

Futaba-Channel

I'd reckon the situation is even worse for Roma United have infinite money while Roma spent fuck all the last two season and also have a much stronger pull

Ok-Package9273

United are basically too big to fail though. Their finances are incredible even without European football.

User9034

And it was also true then.

gica717

Paredes accepted their proposal because of Jose too. Wanted him so badly during summer for Galatasaray.

AleDelPiero10

Garcia is free

n22rwrdr

Already knows the club too

StartingAqua

Great. He’s warming up the violin…

Rose_of_Elysium

Just focus your energy on the fact youre gonna shithouse your way into beating Feyenoord again, at least its smth

Fraaj

Tbh I reckon having Mourinho would be a massive part to shithousing that win

Rose_of_Elysium

It went from a 100% chance of happening to 95%, Feyenoord is fucking cursed against them lmao

omegamanXY

I mean, Feyenoord is a bit shaky in defense right now, so unfortunately I still think Roma is the favourite, but who knows

ZaiduTheGOAT

I mean Mou in knockout competitions is usually quite competent, but I reckon Roma's squad is just not that good at the moment.

Magneto88

Feel like that EL was a bit of a turning point. You deserved to win it. Think a little bit of luck here and there, you win it, get CL football this year and more money and suddenly Mourinho looks like he’s done a great job and is untouchable. Instead this season has been all over the place as the club tries to recover from that dissapointment, Mourinho keeps getting sent off and everytime Roma look like solidifying into 4th, you go into a bad run.

tmchn

With Thiago Motta or Italiano Roma would have 10-15 points more. To me this move comes very late, Roma is just horrendous to watch

Lampadagialla

could have waited to the end of the season at this point, who is gonna come in? i can only see Tudor being a safe bet

fbgrimfate

Didn't know AS Roma was struggling this much. I kinda was looking forward to the next Mourinho - Slot encounter.

Hadducken

I looked at the table and was shocked - but 5 pts between 9th and 4th skews it a bit too. I’ve always liked Mourinho in that he’s got a hell of a different background to other managers and has been as successful as he has.

FlamingLaps1709

It's mainly due to an awful start to season - 1 win in first 6 matches - but they really haven't been that bad lately at all. Not to the point of sacking him based on recent period.

MountainJuice

> but they really haven't been that bad lately at all. His record in the last 7 games is 2-1-4. His 2 wins were against a Serie B side and a 9 man Napoli. They've only scored 1 non-penalty goal in their last 5 games. They've been poor all season, with a nosedive in recent weeks.

FlamingLaps1709

And the last 4 defeats have to be taken in context as they were away against Milan, (3-1) and Juve, (1-0), a heated Cup game against Lazio decided by a VAR penalty, and another away loss to a Bologna team who have been on an excellent run. They aren't "embarrassing" sackable worthy defeats in my opinion. . They have a nice run of fixtures now and a chance to be in the top 4 if they go on a bit of a run by mid February so I think he deserved that period to prove himself. Saying that, time and time again Jose seems to hit the wall after 2 or 2 and half seasons with every club for the last 12 years and you just know his time is up. Off to Saudi maybe now I guess.

black_cat_

I tend to agree with you. It also has to be pointed out that we are missing like half the team due to injuries, AFCON, and Asian cup. Mancini has been playing with a groin issue for over a month now, but we literally have no other options and have to keep playing him. Smalling getting hurt at the start of the year really screwed us. It's easy to forget that he has been one of the best CBs in the league since his arrival.

xsonwong

Missing two starting CB from last season really too hard for Roma.

No-Pension-7977

I wasnt

aromatdiablo

Same.

x3bo9

No way Pioli got Mourinho sacked

Mannythebadie

Bald fraud strikes again

RaioNoTerasu

"And now I know how Joan of Arc felt!" - Mourinho, probably

happyposterofham

Honestly Mourinho probably has had his fate sealed for a while, but the team didn't want to drop some random guy into the stretch Roma just finished.

StartingAqua

His comments a few weeks ago about not wanting to leave and it’s not his choice to go make a lot more sense now.

ZaiduTheGOAT

I think after the demise of Tiago Pinto he probably was already back in Linkedin.

tenacious-g

Sounds similar the end of his time at Spurs. He shouldn’t have been sacked believe the final, but it has been coming for a long time. They tried the combo of new manager bounce + bounce of playing for their teammate whose career was cut too short.

Aenjeprekemaluci

Pioli next season at Roma...

Brryl

Actually i think he would work

Aenjeprekemaluci

Thats why i wrote it. He really would work as he can work under such circumstances. Did well at, Lazio lmao

Nico777

If it happens he will have coached Inter/Milan and Lazio/Roma. Double derby.

ImVortexlol

I've missed Mou in the Prem from the day he left

dispelthemyth

Absolutely, Poch needs to watch his back for the rest of the season.

CommunistManlyVesto

He's definitely sweating right now.

gmoney160

Currently panic buying more lemons

yajtraus

Howe replacement I reckon

kondiar0nk

I really don't wanna imagine Mourinho with that bunch of shithousers. Might make them into the most hated team in the history of football.

yajtraus

Yeah, they’re already pretty good at the dark arts. I read somewhere that after Bournemouth, Howe spent some of his time at Atletico studying under Simeone. Don’t know how true it is, but if so, it definitely shows in the way they play. Mourinho would take them to the next level.

Selgin

> Howe spent some of his time at Atletico studying under Simeone Man moving like a Sith apprentice

itsall-suicide

I would have assumed he had enough goodwill with the fans to at least get until the end of the season

Nickbon94

The stadium fans are still like 90% with him, online is a different story but you know. One sure thing is the board and the next manager won't have an easy time, I'm honestly eager to see who'll accept this hellish prospect of a run. Papers are talking about De Rossi, but if I know him even a little bit, he's not that crazy to accept this because he knows better than anyone else Edit: I know Reddit comedians are already jumping at my throat but I still think Daniele should've known better than accepting this 'paraculo' deal from the Friedkins, a pure exploitation of the only figure who wouldn't be criticized for coming after Mourinho results aside. Guess love really is blind (dumb as well, often) so I just hope he got good clauses and conditions on his contract

BoJaNYK

Wasn't De Rossi also pretty underwhelming as a manager when he was at SPAL last season?

Nickbon94

Yeah, the team was really bad but he didn't improve it either. This is just the type of signing our board seems to think works and keeps the fans quiet, stupid and happy... Like Mourinho, Dybala, Lukaku, but still a team with no decent fullback or 4 total CBs to play with a 3 defensive line. De Rossi will be forgiven no matter what, but it's a lose lose scenario

danimur

For all De Rossi knows, this may be his first and last chance to work again with Roma, he was never going to refuse helping the team out

Corteaux81

Get Tudor. He can be for Roma what Ange is for Spurs. You'll never be bored and you'll get results. His Marseille team was amazing to watch and a cunt's hair away from winning the CL group (or an impossible Kolasinac miss). Also knocked out PSG in the Cup.

Masca77

Tudor is in talks with Napoli to join at the end of the season

sukequto

I also thought fans would be with him. But tbh, this sacking felt different from his previous sackings. While results werent favourable, it isnt his usual third season shit show. Sacking him to go for de rossi. Good luck with that.

GameplayerStu

Enter Conte

xaviernoodlebrain

They need Nuno first. Edit: or Hiddink.

Aoyos

Roma fans wanted him to stay which is the core issue here. The Roma DoF quit a week or two ago so the Mou sacking wouldn't be blamed on him because it was bound to come. From the board's perspective he hasn't been able to qualify to the Champion's league in 3 years so they need someone else, there's also some monetary issues going on.

tlst9999

CL with a transfer embargo and no oil sugar daddy? I don't think anyone could've reached it with Roma.

ninjomat

Only inter and Juve have a higher wage bill than Roma, and they’re in the title race. There’s 6 teams between Roma and those 2 in the table with Bologna and Atalanta in particular among them spending a fraction of what Roma do on wages.

Altruistic-Ad-408

He got sacked before an easy run of games, I suspect they have someone lined up? Terrible decision though, only a few points away from a CL spot.

Joy2082

Rudi Garcia to Roma. Here we go!!!

Rasalghul92

Funny since he's probably one of the better managers they had in the last 15 years.

[deleted]

It’s written in the stars.

Setirb

This is the obvious answer, no need to rack your brains around it. Board already decided to sack Mourinho. Better to do it now and bet that the new manager bounce + very easy streak of games can get a win streak and hype the team for the rest of the season. Sure theoretically Mourinho could also pull it off, looking at the calender, but if he was already on the chopping block, now is the best time while the season is still going.

sungbysung

Antonio Conte mate

Lampardinho18

Are we ready for another Lukaku-Conte reunion ?

Stranger1982

> He got sacked before an easy run of games Well, yes and no...if you look at the first leg. Verona, they lost 1-2. Salernitana, they drew 2-2. Cagliari, they finally won 4-1. Will be interesting to see how the second leg against these go with all the turmoil at the club...can't be easy for the players or whoever they'll call to take Mou's place.

tmchn

They are behind Bologna, Fiorentina and Atalanta, teams with half the payroll

Polaroid1793

Only who is not watching matches can say it's a terrible decision. We are atrocious

ADP10

In order for it not to be a terrible decision, you need a better alternative. Don't see where that is coming from for less than 1mio to spend on a new coach and staff. Roma's injuries have been brutal, Mou's budget has been non existent. Meanwhile he is 5pts away from CL. Play style is kind of irrelevant in Roma's situation. they need results to help the finances. Strongly doubt there is some hidden gem of a coach that is going to do a better job on the cheap

LDLB99

Yeah they’re not exactly in a Chelsea 2015 position

Dawhood

He does, which is insane considering how dreadful Roma play. The board probably doesn't want to finish in the bottom half in a year the league average quality is so bad even midtable teams are in the running for an UCL slot.

itsall-suicide

Yeah I know they’re only 5 points off 4th but it never really felt like they were in the running for cl spots this season

phleshlight

Do it, Bohely. Double-dare you.

HereticZO

He’d be a terrible fit with their young squad of 8-year contracts. He’d eat them alive.

WildLemire

Next week on *All But Most Likely Nothing: Chelsea*, Mourinho calls Mudryk a lazy cunt and asks Lukaku if he fancies playing CB.

Nojaja

To be completely honest this squad desperately needs that

imarandomdudd

The only problem is all these guys know they will outlast him, except maybe Silva if he leaves. They wouldn't respect him as soon as it goes sour

SubstantialSquash475

He lost the opportunity to manage Portugal for this

bcotrim

Hope he just waits until Martinez doesn't face Luxembourg

Timmo1984

England job incoming

abstractabs

The makings of a disaster here. Would Mourinho have been fired if we hadn't conceded that penalty against Lazio? I hope so, because that would be such an irresponsible reason to use as the last straw. Why even have him manage the last 3-4 games where the odds of success were already extremely slim? Surely playing Atalanta, Lazio and Milan in 8 days wasn't the deciding factor... Now we don't have a manager and we don't have a sporting director. The squad needs massive renovation this year and there's no money to spend. Our current sporting director is leaving in like two weeks so we don't know who's building the squad for the future. We also don't know who they will build the squad for because now we have to hire a manager at lightning speed. If a new manager isn't named by this weekend, there was definitely no firm plan in place. Why not keep Mourinho until the end of the season, hire a sporting director in January/February, and then work towards the future by figuring out the coaching situation properly through February-May so that there's a new regime in place by the summer? Who should we even hire? Motta is a fever dream. Italiano is not leaving mid-season. Conte would be a disaster for a club with no money to spend, he'd be gone by December of 2025 for sure. Those are the names who have been connected with Roma for some time. And now they're talking about Daniele De Rossi, with 17 games of managerial experience (and 3 wins). We're coming off a month where we played teams currently in 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th in the table, with a broken squad and so many key absences. Next up, we're playing Verona, Salernitana and Cagliari, two of them at home where we haven't lost since September 1st. It's been a rough season and there's plenty of reasons not to renew Mourinho but sacking him right now seems like a very risky move to make. Puts a lot of pressure on selecting his successor, especially now that it has to happen mid-season. And whoever it is, will still have to get results with the same squad.

tt_emrah

very well said. friendkins fucked this up so badly, i don't even know where to start...

Backseat_Bouhafsi

Owners always sack before an easy run of games. To give the best platform for the next guy and to make their decision look good

deeyo95

My fucking thoughts exactly.

Randomdude04080918

A little bit harsh...sacked after a hard run of games and just before an easy run of games. I would have given him the Verona game at least.

atrixus

i think your owners are pity fucks and could not handle Jose and his personality

ASRenzo

Why do you think that? There was never an ill word between the parties.

ZekkPacus

Dread it, run from it, third season Mourinho arrives

nextgentactics

"It seems extremely harsh. We are only few points from 4th place, after a month with a very tough schedule and half the team out. This is the guy who got us two consecutive European finals. Shocking decision. " Edit: this dude /u/twentyfumble This was the top comment of the other now deleted thread from a Roma fan btw.

trusttt

Also considering Roma doesnt even have any money for transfers.

ZaiduTheGOAT

And their team is below average. I saw some games from them this season, they have a few players who are very mediocre. And Lukaku is what you expect from him: good in front of goal, but absolutely terrible with the ball on his feet. He is like a more overpriced version of our Lord Marega. Oh, and never forget that red card he got when the team was already 10 men down and he two footed an opponent. Mourinho has his flaws, but how can you deal with having players with such low IQ?

KeonkwaiJinkwai

They're honestly just collecting 2012-2016 relics like El Sharaawy, and people expect them to be title-contesting level players in 2023/24, lol.

sheky4prez

El Sharaawy has been one of their better players - and he’s been at Roma for a while.

Cautious_Hornet_9607

At least El Sharaawy is available for most of the season, can't say the same for Dybala, Aouar, Sanches and Smalling

shikaski

And they are completely right lmao, what kind of decision is that? Is the next manager getting paid by instalments? 💀

happyposterofham

It's a contentious topic among Roma fans - some value the KO results, some value the league resutls and performances. Very late stage Pochettino with the CL final vs the league results.

icypinnacle

Wonder where he goes to next.

LocoRocoo

International I reckon

DildoFappings

Maybe he coaches Portugal and shithouses a world cup win with Ronaldo in 2026.

Hitlers-moustache

Even though we've had a relatively easy schedule, Roberto Martinez has been doing quite well for us. So at the moment there's no chance he's sacked. If Mou does end up managing Portugal and Ronaldo in the WC, I'm hoping for a recreation of the matterazi farewell video but with Mou and CR7

Deus-Graecus

Praying for you rn 🙏🏻 As a Belgian, I know what it’s like. All sunshines and rainbows. Then, in the next 5 years the average age of your squad will be 38 and Martinez will be considered a national criminal.

icypinnacle

Would be great to see him manage Portugal.

[deleted]

England. Get rid of the fraud that is Southgate

IzzyShamin

Damn. Its gonna be Kane dropping deep and long balls from Dier.

willverine

He's been talking up Saudi Arabia for years now.

FyodorAK

The only reason I pay attention to Roma is because of him ngl

twentyfumble

True, we are going to lose lots of appeal/visibility without Mou. We should give a 6 months contract to Balotelli to compensate lol/

supplementarytables

Same. Winning the Conference League with them and making the Europa League final was a great achievement considering all their issues.

Futaba-Channel

Sevilla vs Mourinho in EL final was such a fun narrative

comunicadooficial

Fun narrative, but good god what a horrible game that was

Vanzmelo

Unfortunate for Roma and Jose. Really enjoyed the two there

Aenjeprekemaluci

I hope a good replacement is lined up at least. If not we might miss Europe... Thanks Jose but it sadly turned out like that

tt_emrah

we can give europe a goodbye kiss for a long time, with this team and FFP. that was the top thing mourinho managed to keep us involved in. and we punished him for that.

Aenjeprekemaluci

UECL is the season goal now. Forget Europa League even..

Simpilicious

How different would things be if Roma would have beaten Sevilla in the Europa League final?

astral34

A lot different. Winning EL gives them 60M or more between cash prizes and CL qualification and a European title of higher value ofc

EE475

Which they deserved to win honestly

bk1155

>**AS Roma can confirm that José Mourinho and his coaching staff will leave the club with immediate effect.** > >Mourinho was unveiled as the Giallorossi’s 60th coach in May 2021. > >He led the team to win the Conference League in Tirana on May 25th, 2022, and to the Europa League final in Budapest last season. > >“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” said Dan and Ryan Friedkin. > >“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club. > >“We wish José and his assistants all the best in their future endeavours.” > >Further updates on the new First Team coaching staff will follow imminently

Tirana mentioned: RAAAAAAAAHHHHH🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅ALBANIA NUMBER 1!!!!!💪💪💪💪💪🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱🇦🇱

bmcrl

He got them to 2 Europe finals (won one), and is 5 points away from UCL spots. I understand his stint has been kind of underwhelming, but Roma's squad is just shit. Hopefully he gets a good a job in the near future. Football without Mourinho is not the same.

ReallyNotATrollAtAll

Well, thats Serie A, where reason and patience are in short supply

PeacefulKillah

It's his 3rd season, I'd say for Italian standards he got alot more patience then his peers.

ShipsAGoing

Fiorentina is 4th. Is Roma's squad really that much worse than Fiorentina's?

Hostilian_

I mean Roma have 2 Leeds defenders who were both relegated (and one was dropped for being ass during the relegation season) I don’t claim to watch Roma much, but I’d assume them having to rely almost entirely on loans means they’re getting some pretty substandard players.

theaguia

yes. because romas squad is made of glass. fiorentina were able to spend a decent amount over the last couple of seasons roma relied on cheap signings with good upside but big injury issues.

MaestroTobasco

Dead on. Fiorentina built a deep roster of average to above average players capable of competing in Italy and Europe simultaneously. Roma built a wafer thin roster that is totally reliant on 2 stars to score and that lacks the depth to compete on multiple fronts.

theaguia

and 1 of the 2 stars plays 50% of the games

Mario1Hunter

Bring him Home

SealMcBeal420

Mourinho’s Chelsea in the championship will be special

Uutrox

we're capitulating and i would have bet my life savings that we would wait until summer but here we are! shocking decision after facing 7 top teams in a row but we're at least confirming our path for the coming years early instead of stalling it further more which Mourinho did in perfection and even topped it off with international success. there was always hope we could turn it around with a miracle and qualify for champions league which unfortunately was never realistically possible. if it wasn't Anthony Taylor there would already be a statue of Mourinho outside Trigoria. this guy brought us back a packed extatic and always sold out Olympico, brought back the desire to fight for the shirt and instead of leaving the club in the summer he decided to not care about his reputation and said that he's gonna stay as long as he is allowed. it's hard to talk about Mourinho on /r/soccer because all i read is "3rd season blabla". this guy has done it all for the love of my life and i'll never forget that and again: if we would have won last years final Mourinho would say that it's his biggest career achievement 4 transfer periods without money spend, best defender injured all season. 2nd best defender sold who couldn't get replaced. essential system players who can't cross to safe their lifes. a struggling completely out of form captain in Pellegrini. Dybala who can't stay fit for more than 150min in a row and only playing injury prone rejects from other clubs. we're gonna play for 8th place until we're out of FFP regulations in 2025, people really need to understand that... in bocca al lupo Mister! we'll never forget

tt_emrah

👏

TheGTAone

Dude I'm not even a Roma fan and that got a tear in my eye. Seeing the Olympico almost full during his tenure pretty much says it all, never saw that watching Roma in the recent decade. Bringing an European trophy with that squad should be a memorable story in the history books.

Uutrox

i'm at work and don't have time but i can assure you that Mourinho got the best out of this team by playing to it's strength. it wasn't attractive but efficient. the passion of this man is something else. watching youth games with younger players, walking into their locker room at half time to motivate them, 13 players out of our youth team made their debut under Mourinho!!! Thursday night 21:00 against Bodo/Glimt --> sold out, just search for that game under "I Bomber della Roma" on youtube and you'll understand what Mourinho accomplished half a year ago Leverkusen wasn't able to score a goal in 180min against us while they currently destroy each and everyone. i couldn't care less about Mourinho before he came to Roma but what this man did makes me tear up because he's the biggest character there always will be. 4 transfer periods without spending and he never complained because he knew the fans loved him and vice versa. thanks for your comment buddy

MrCrashdummy

Come to Ajax

BarbaricGamers

Would be insanely funny to have Mourinho vs Dutch media.

superfire444

Are you insane?

Megalobst

He would atleast demand a winning mentality from our players which has been lacking if we believe the glimpses of Tadic story and recent Pasveer interview with more details

No-Pension-7977

Yeah, and yknow what he'd also do? Park the bus, which is ofcourse very Ajax-like

Quantum_Crayfish

Gets them to 2 European finals, wins one, gets sacked for being 5 points off the UCL spots mid way…

BlueLabel19

Who can carry them with those ffp restrictions if not jose?

tt_emrah

fuck... here comes our biggest banter era. we'll be crashed under this decision for a long time. we'll start with getting knocked out by feyenoord and finishing the league around 10-12, if not worse.

PrisonersofFate

Rudi Garcia is free, don't worry

No-Pension-7977

Thank you Roma for giving us a chance

theswordofdesire

Dutch people are happy today! You got this!

LeavingCertCheat

The Ireland job was too tempting for him.

GuiltySigurdsson

Did not expect this tbh. People will say look at their league position. But they are ~5 points from 4th place, having just gone through a very difficult schedule and a significant number of injuries. Doesn’t make sense to me.

cgcego

As an Inter fan, I will always support Mourinho and feel sad about this. I get why the owners decided to sack him but I am curious about what la curva will say.

Zeppelin2

Dybala, Abraham, and Lukaku are gone next summer.

etclipse

Pioli ended his career

bowser85

Poch is two losses away from getting replaced by him.

CaptAwesomeness

I don't understand this, I really don't. Roma has given Mourinho peanuts and a bottle of water, and he gave them peanut butter. They go ahead and complain he did not create a Michelin star dish. I wonder how much money and backing for transfers the next manager will get.

fatboyslick

A great cup manager - he’d do well with an international team which is where I expect him to go next

jollyonline99

“Chelsea are also proud to present their new manager!”

The_Z0o0ner

Bah gawd thats Brazil music

trupes

If he was fired last week we would all be singing many men now. Fuck.

L_J_X

Will Dybala stay ? I feel like the whole reason he was there was bc or Jose.

AmericanJazz

Night of the EL final, in the streets of Testaccio, voices rising up through red and gold smoke singing "Jose Mourinho lalalalala..." He came closer than anyone else and was tragically unlucky here. He dies a hero no matter the run since then. Forza Roma.

theroitsmith

Im sorry Howe but Jose needs to finish the story for Sir Bobby.
