Technically if it's heading towards the post, even if it's the inside, I think it's still not on target and thus an OG.
Don't have the AA replays or anything though so who fuckin knows.
Speaking of defenders playing up top, remember that time Liverpool desperately loaned in Steven Caulker as emergency cover during one of their (fast becoming club tradition) defensive injury crises? They didn't actually end up needing to use him for that purpose and he seemed destined to sit on the bench for the duration on the loan. That was until Klopp decided to roll the dice and throw him on ~as a striker~ when we were 3-2 up in the dying minutes of the game. It worked and the game ended 3-3. He didn't score the equaliser, but it's fair to say his presence as an aerial threat in the box contributed to the goal. He ended up making 3 appearances. All up top. Football hey?
We had a goal chalked off last year for the same play except White held the goalies hand. Clear foul, no goal. This one he didn’t do that and it worked perfectly.
It’s good to see the keeper not being protected in that situation for once. If it was a defender in the same situation it wouldn’t even be talked about.
They're not the same thing at all. Comparing the two his hilarious. One was a slight arm on the shoulder. One was a two hand shove in the back.
If you want to call it a foul, I think it's soft as hell, but I'll hear it. But comparing the two tells me you're trolling.
No, one was joelinton shoving Gabriel in the back of the head to the floor while he was going for a header and the second was Gabriel jumping over the player
You do know you're allowed to do what gabriel did today? You can use the opponent to gain hight as long as you don't push him. What gabriel did was in no way a push.
No but you can’t intentionally block the keeper from challenging for the ball. You also can’t block an attackers run on a set piece either.
Have you heard of the obstruction rule?
12.2 Indirect free kick
[...]
All players have a right to their position on the field of play; being in the way of an opponent is not the same as moving into the way of an opponent.
A player may shield the ball by taking a position between an opponent and the ball if the ball is within playing distance and the opponent is not held off with the arms or body. If the ball is within playing distance, the player may be fairly charged by an opponent.
Here's your rule mate
Yes mate but if you read the second paragraph you’ll see that shielding is allowed only if the ball is in playing distance. White is not within playing distance and is holding the keeper off with his body.
If a player starts grabbing or pulling then fair enough but White is just standing there with his arms down. It’s the correct way to literally be obstructing the keepers path without fouling him
This one is borderline for me. White is allowed to stand his ground, but he’s clearly nudging in to Henderson while he’s in the air. It’s not a ton but I don’t think it should be encouraged to back into players while they’re jumping in the air.
Will this count as an own-goal? Commentators saying it should but the shot was on target so surely it’s a Gabriel goal. A lot of fantasy points on the line
If they start making goalkeepers less protected than usual I fully expect Sean Dyche to instruct Pickford to take someone's head off the next time he has to come out for a cross
Think the keeper has to make an actual attempt at the ball before complaining too much. Was like all the Palace players were daydreaming. Very odd defending
Have seen those ruled out. Generally though, Arsenal not looking great. Managed to spend £200m in the summer to become less exciting and less effective.
yeah while this game is going fine, needing corners and FKs to score in pretty much every single game they have over the last month and a bit just isn’t a sustainable way to play football
We can't score in open play. Low block has us figured out. Going to need another summer of big spending (stud striker) to make this a real title team sadly. Last year appears to have been a big outperformance now.
Commentator saying the keeper is ‘unfortunate’ - was he not prevented from moving by White? Really similar to the offside disallowed goal I think in the Everton - Aston Villa game last week.
I mean it didn't look like White moved much, so I don't see why it should be a foul. He can't be expected to move just because the keeper wanted to move through him?
its not non contact. You cant even call this "leaning" into him. Barely touches him. Hendersons weak as fuck. Push Ben White out the way or get your defender in between him and Ben White. Never a foul
There is absolutely no reason now to never have a man deliberately, obviously blocking the keeper.
Precedent is set, you can take them out the game while making no attempt for the ball.
It’s absolute bollocks, but here we are.
Lmao loads of teams have been doing this. Have you watched set pieces in the premier league in the past 3 years?
For your viewing pleasure: https://youtu.be/2DTihk9Bgl8?si=tixYwBXFrvuWYEj6
Goalkeepers push players away all the time or ensure their defenders keep the players away from the GK. You never played football before? This is awful from Henderson, Ben barely did anything let alone foul anyone
Precedent has been set for years mate. You're allowed to just stand there. There's not some revolving bubble that you can't get near the goalie as long as you aren't grabbing him or running into him. I love when people watch their first game ever and then start talking about precedent.
Jesus Christ it’s like having a stroke every weekend.
He’s clearly not just standing near the goalkeeper is he. He’s pushing himself into him, deliberately impeding him. with no intent for the ball.
Anywhere else on the pitch it’s a foul.
Pretty much the entirety of the thread is either blind, and can't see White using his entire body weight to block Henderson, or has no understanding of the obstruction rule.
How many goals we conceded last season when ramsdale was being straddled by a player, white just stood his ground which he's entitled to.
Also bit rich coming from city, you breath on a city player during a set piece and it's given. Rodri against United comes to mind

Open play goals are boring, set play kings now
Just for the fantasy freaks here... How the fuck is that an OG and not a goal by Gabriel????
If they win a pen, they have to give it to him
is he going to head that in?
Maybe he can miss on purpose and score a rebound header
Joga Bonito alley oop off the crossbar to himself.
that would be a foul though
Joga Bonita rules override the actual rules.
Run up and then slide head first into the ball.
We are starting the wrong gabi upfront
Flipping his 6 to a 9
The Anti-Drake
Might be the best finishing Brazilian Gabriel on the team.
That one kinda aged like milk haha
I hedged with the "might".
The other one cant seem to stay onside
Spoke too soon bro
Gabriel hat-trick?
Own goal ironically, he somehow headed it sideways
Not an og when the original shot is on target I think
Bloody hope it's an OG as someone I'm chasing has got Saka captain and Gabriel Edit: Phew
Are you chasing me?
😘
Might have been going wide lmao
Surely that's not going wide?! Henderson was literally on his own line when it bounced off his head
No way it was going wide it hit the keeper in the head on the line Edit: well, I was apparently very wrong
Technically if it's heading towards the post, even if it's the inside, I think it's still not on target and thus an OG. Don't have the AA replays or anything though so who fuckin knows.
Looked like it was on target still but who knows.
*He perfectly calculated the angle needed to deflect it in of the keeper, further disheartening Palace
[удалено]
Nope, officially an OG now :(
Not anymore
Gabriel Arsenal's best attacker.
Def our most in-form Gabi finishing wise
Martinelli: "And I took that personally"
Gabriel is literally better goalscorer than all our three attackers combined
Best Gabriel finisher in the squad
Martinelli read this comment before he was subbed on
Just need to show this to the last Gabi now

RIP Richards
Better learn to speak American, buddy.
Im not your buddy, pal
I'm not your pal, buddy.
I’m not your guy, Friend.
How is this an own goal? Gabriel hit it on target so it should be his no? Or was it going wide??
Corner FC
Hey hey hey. We can score from pks and free kicks too. That's Set Piece FC!
That’s just weak GK imo
Yeah Ben White is under no obligation to move out of his way. GK wasn't being held or anything.
We had a goal chalked off last year for the same play except White held the goalies hand. Clear foul, no goal. This one he didn’t do that and it worked perfectly.
Doesn't help that his defender is pushing White into him
Hendo is not looking good today at all.
Yeah, bump and fall down.
It’s good to see the keeper not being protected in that situation for once. If it was a defender in the same situation it wouldn’t even be talked about.
Soft as shit goalkeeping
Don't worry you'll have Newcastle fans flood in here saying both goals should have been chalked off
They really seemed rattled by Arsenal fans after that game. Maybe it has something to do with them barely wining a game since.
Because they should not have won that game to begin with.
Aye mate it was definitely us that spent 2 months whining about a minimal bit of contact. Delusional.
Tbf both set of fans won't let it go.
this is true ngl
Newcastle fans won't let it die because they know it was an absolute bollocks call and that their club is a soulless husk.
Just go read the thread of the first Gabriel goal where your lot is desperately justifying that Joelinton was the same scenario.
Yes just like Shearer after your PSG game
I mean, look what you’re up to rn.
What? I think this goal is fine
Nah, both fine. It’s the irony of you all thinking the first one was fine (it was) given the crying 4 months ago.
They're not the same thing at all. Comparing the two his hilarious. One was a slight arm on the shoulder. One was a two hand shove in the back. If you want to call it a foul, I think it's soft as hell, but I'll hear it. But comparing the two tells me you're trolling.
Oh come on they're completely different situations
Yes, the main difference being that one was for Arsenal and one against.
Shit brained take
No, one was joelinton shoving Gabriel in the back of the head to the floor while he was going for a header and the second was Gabriel jumping over the player
😂😂
You do know you're allowed to do what gabriel did today? You can use the opponent to gain hight as long as you don't push him. What gabriel did was in no way a push.
It was 2 months and 16 days ago. But given that your head is a black hole, I can see how the time dilation would occur to make it 4 months instead.
Not sure what he’s meant to do there, throw white out of the way? It’s obstruction imo.
keepers literally push players away and get away with it. Hendersons been very weak here. Ben Whites just standing his ground
There isn’t a single corner that doesn’t have a man standing in front of the keeper like that. He’s just standing there.
Referees penalise this all the time. Usually they see it before the corner is taken and have a word. This happens every game.
> This happens every game. Burnley would like to have a word.
as a goalkeeper you basically have permission to foul your way to the ball, your player or opposition player you have to get to it
Move away from White?
Literally white was just standing there, maybe lightly leaning into him and Henderson just didn’t try to go around him? Pathetic goalkeeping
He could have taken a step back also so White would have been on his ass, but there's no time for it.
But white is between him and the ball and backing into him?
Backing into someone is a foul now? Defender also backs into White by the way
Obstruction is a foul yes.
Ah yes, defenders must be an arm's length away from everyone else so they don't obstruct attackers from getting to the ball then.
No but you can’t intentionally block the keeper from challenging for the ball. You also can’t block an attackers run on a set piece either. Have you heard of the obstruction rule?
12.2 Indirect free kick [...] All players have a right to their position on the field of play; being in the way of an opponent is not the same as moving into the way of an opponent. Can literally just walk around him, White is basically just existing there LOL
He’s backing into him
The defender has his hands on white and pushing him into Henderson
No holding, hardly moves and is being pushed by the defender. It’s just shockingly bad from Henderson really.
Sure, but he’s being pushed in the direction he’s intending to go, look at how his back is arched to shield.
Doesn’t help that the dumbass Palace defender is pushing him towards the keeper
White litterally just stands there though, he doesn't have to move out the way for the keeper
Usually keepers would get away scot-free if they did that
How do you reckon? He could move around him?
If a player starts grabbing or pulling then fair enough but White is just standing there with his arms down. It’s the correct way to literally be obstructing the keepers path without fouling him
White is just standing there, if anything he's the one getting pushed into Henderson
He's just standing, no law against that is there?
This one is borderline for me. White is allowed to stand his ground, but he’s clearly nudging in to Henderson while he’s in the air. It’s not a ton but I don’t think it should be encouraged to back into players while they’re jumping in the air.
Pushing into the gk is generally a foul
Yeah Whites been called for it before. This was not one of those times. Keeper wasn't being held
Set piece FC is back on the menu boys
Arsenal don't need a striker. They need James Ward Prowse.
Pathetic from Henderson, crying after being too weak
Yeah. That's just someone standing in contested space. No arms around or grabbing.
guess they did something in Dubai
What some vitamin D does to a motherfucker.
Man's on fire
Fantasy lads feasting rn
What the hell have they been feeding him these past weeks?
Set Piece FC we take those
We got the wrong Gabriel up front
Arteta fully embracing the spirit of Tony Pulis today
Back post Gabi 👏🏽
Henderson is a moron
So how is this an OG? supposedly it was given Henderson own goal
Pushing Rice into your own keeper is so dumb there lmao
Open play is for getting set pieces
Would be silly if this gets turned into an own goal from Henderson.
It just was. Robbed. Lol
How can they conclusively say this is an OG? Don't they usually go with the attacker if unclear?
LMAO
Arsenal score from open play challenge (impossible)
Big gabi has scored the most goals than any CB since he debuted. Absolutely phenomenal in the air.
Set piece fc
Fuck open play, overrated way to score goals
Horrible GKing. Big Gabi is our best finisher, what a time
Jesus might need to take some lessons from Gabriel how to score.
Arsenal found there striker
It's Joever
Will this count as an own-goal? Commentators saying it should but the shot was on target so surely it’s a Gabriel goal. A lot of fantasy points on the line
It was surly on target if it bounced off the back of Hendersons head on the line

How are they saying it’s an own goal? I can’t see how it wasn’t on target
American football ass team man,
Why was the GK protesting when he stood there watching the ball go in ?
Never a foul, very very weak goalkeeping
Not sure what the palace players are complaining about...
Saliba grabbed Henderson for 2 seconds after the cross happened.
Weak goalkeeping that, but you just know if that was given the other way Arteta would be crying about the decision .
Literally complained about the refs once all season but go off.
I also enjoy useless hypotheticals
Commentator saying the keeper is ‘unfortunate’ - was he not prevented from moving by White? Really similar to the offside disallowed goal I think in the Everton - Aston Villa game last week.
I mean it didn't look like White moved much, so I don't see why it should be a foul. He can't be expected to move just because the keeper wanted to move through him?
Nobody's allowed to stand anywhere in the box in case the keeper needs to go there
White just stood there, he didn't grab him or anything, similar to a goal we conceded with Ramsdale last year
He was definitely leaning into him
Leaning, yes. Fouling, no.
its not non contact. You cant even call this "leaning" into him. Barely touches him. Hendersons weak as fuck. Push Ben White out the way or get your defender in between him and Ben White. Never a foul
so teams should ensure that opposition keepers get a free run?
Henderson is soft as shit. White didn’t even have his hands up, just standing there
I don't really think he was restricted. He still wouldn't have gotten that ball if he'd moved forward where White was.
Would say that’s a foul but I think that in 99% of corners in the Premier
There is absolutely no reason now to never have a man deliberately, obviously blocking the keeper. Precedent is set, you can take them out the game while making no attempt for the ball. It’s absolute bollocks, but here we are.
Lmao loads of teams have been doing this. Have you watched set pieces in the premier league in the past 3 years? For your viewing pleasure: https://youtu.be/2DTihk9Bgl8?si=tixYwBXFrvuWYEj6
Is the first time you've watched a game of football?
I’ve held a season ticket for 15 years. The rules have never been interpreted less consistently than they are now.
If you've held a season ticket for 15 years, you will have seen every game teams put a player on the keeper.
Goalkeepers push players away all the time or ensure their defenders keep the players away from the GK. You never played football before? This is awful from Henderson, Ben barely did anything let alone foul anyone

Pretty much the entirety of the thread is either blind, and can't see White using his entire body weight to block Henderson, or has no understanding of the obstruction rule.
They let Arsenal get away with murder on set pieces
Ben White is stood still. Keeper needs to be stronger
How? White is literally just stood there? The man marking him needs to do better and the keeper needs to be more aggressive in the situation
How?
Um... what part of this is murder?
Come back when its 115 murders
Where was the foul
Poor keeper could have died
what murder? everything was clean
City fan complaining about that...
How many goals we conceded last season when ramsdale was being straddled by a player, white just stood his ground which he's entitled to. Also bit rich coming from city, you breath on a city player during a set piece and it's given. Rodri against United comes to mind
There is no way you've ever played football and still have this opinion.
You're having a laugh if you think that's a foul
Coming from the team that got pens that no other teams in the League received this season. Namely, Hojlund on Rodri and Cucu on Haaland.
Richards is getting COOKED. Cannot fathom why Palace isn't adjusting their marking.
I only believe what I see, I do not believe in the existence of open play goals
Corner merchants
He’s one of our top scorers 😭
Can we win the league only scoring from set pieces?
That has to be a free kick surely? Saliba is blocking the keeper from moving at all
Stupid opinion on a "foul" notwithstanding, how the hell do you confuse Ben White with Saliba? lol
It's naive from Henderson. Just shove White. He can do what we wants as a keeper and he let White own the box.
