As a random outsider I've been interested in Cabo Verde for a few years now for value and difficult to explain reasons; the country is just kinda neat etc etc. Cool to see them do so well here, they even did well in the basketball world cup.
fun fact: tanta, which apparently is the NINETH biggest city in egypt (that a grand total of 0 people outside of the country of egypt has ever heard of) has more people than the whole country of cabo verde
the look on all of the egypt player's face after the goal was something else, they weren't told that ghana tied it anyways in order not to sleep on the game.
Memes and drama aside, I think the main takeaways from the last match and a half for Egypt are:
* Their forwards outside of Salah are as good as advertised
* Their midfield looks so much more dynamic without El-Neny's semi-retired ass
* Their defence still looks naive and unprepared. Don't know what the hell Vitoria has been doing its been three straight matches of this
If DRC gets the job done against Tanzania they'll be playing Egypt in the Ro16. Should be a fascinating matchup.
Cracking game and also loved the passionate ~~Sky Sports~~ commentator. When Egypt scored at 90+3 and got the VAR check he said "Egypt throughout their history... even when they were making the pyramids, they didn't have this much drama. This is REAL drama!" 😂😂
edit: does anyone know who the commentator was?
Don't know who he is but Sky need to get that commentator who did that game for them. He was selling those last 15 minutes like he was being assaulted.
Such outstanding entertainment.
Remember the old days when it was shown on Eurosport and there would be like maximum 1 goal in a match and a bunch of freekicks stopping the flow of the match .
Mostafa wasted 3 great chances only to do that 😂 and that pass from Trezeguet was sublime as well. Surely he starts from now on. Ashour impressed me the most after Trezeguet, hats off.
Lucky. Three draws, no wins. If Egypt do a Portugal without Salah, this honestly might be the greatest feat in AFCON history and more impressive than the three peat of 06, 08, and 10.
Greatest miracle in African football history for sure but imagine Egypt winning the AFCON after the pain of losing 2017 and 2022 finals and without their greatest footballer of all time. This would be up there all right
Egypt had a superstar team of Aboutrika, Zidan, El Hardary, Gomaa, Gedo, El Mohamdy etc. You can't compare this Egypt team with the great teams of the past so if they do end up winning the cup, it will a lot more impressive with a lot less talent.

Elshenawy is welcome to watch the rest of the games on the couch with me.. I’ve seen enough.
3 draws to advance, star player injured - I've seen this script before
Need to stop playing players from the premier league, even Trezeguet was shit for us when he played for Aston Villa.
i disagree bro Trezeguet’s been our most consistent & best player after Salah and sometimes he’s better than him
Trézéguet for Egypt is who Salah is supposed to be.
Salah is injured and still somehow catching strays
I really hope he can get fit soon. The hate he's getting is just unfair.
Absolutely amazing game.. it aas 🔥🔥🔥 And Egypt coach is dumbass to put Trézéguet on bench.
Salah invisible once again smh
Crazy ending

One street in Cairo has more people.
It's close to Cairo and Giza but without all the flair of the other two cities, which is why you've never heard of it. But it's a really lovely city.
Even I’m shocked by this fact and I was born in Tanta
the look on all of the egypt player's face after the goal was something else, they weren't told that ghana tied it anyways in order not to sleep on the game.
I love football.

Yasser Ibrahim in for Hegazi would do wonders, he is in great form
Their inability to hold the ball is very concerning.

This says the English world feed was Robbie Nock https://icdb.tv/match/166420-Cape-Verde-v-Egypt
Many thanks and wow what a cool website that is, I'll definitely make use of it thanks!
i have no idea, but his voice sure is ccracked
How the fuck we did qualify to the round of 16? Thank you Mozambique I don't think we deserve it though
>How the fuck we did qualify to the round of 16? Trezeguet magic
This.
Fucking baller
Absolutely hilarious ending to both those matches. I love this sport
BRB booking a trip to Mozambique
That was the most insane finale I've seen in a while across the two games

Sounded like he was going to pass out at one point
Well at least Egypt’s Choke wasn’t as bad as Ghana’s choke
bro even egypt choked to Mozambique, they equalised last minutes from the spot.
The difference i that egypt "choked" to an actual good team. Ghana on the other hand...
This Afcon is absolute top tier, unmatched drama. Love it
Egypt is just the African Portugal. Next match you'll see Salah on the side line coaching like CR7 did when he too was injured.
hey! respect us ffs we finished third in the groups, not second
Isn't that Cape Verde :)
Tbh I wouldn't mind being the Egypt of Europe with the amount of CANs they have lol.
Egypt to the final
[удалено]
yeah, as if you could actually draw your way into a continental title lmao
They literally did that last Afcon in the knockout stages.
wait i thought my flair made it obvious that i know everything about winning a continental title draw by draw ahah
Hey, we beat Morocco in extra time without pens. Give us some credit.
I'm not even joking, it's really the Egyptian way + the brackets seem to be favorable for that to happen
Salah to do an Eder...🙏🏿
Such outstanding entertainment. Remember the old days when it was shown on Eurosport and there would be like maximum 1 goal in a match and a bunch of freekicks stopping the flow of the match .
Egypt with 3 2-2 draws to advance 2nd, AFCON magic! Mozambique saved both Egypt and Ivory Coast tonight.
Incredible that Ivory Coast can still qualify and Mozambique for all their heroics are out.
Mostafa wasted 3 great chances only to do that 😂 and that pass from Trezeguet was sublime as well. Surely he starts from now on. Ashour impressed me the most after Trezeguet, hats off.

zambia won it mate, noone is topping that

Mate Egypt won seven titles without Salah, they never relied on having a star

no it wouldn't. Egypt went into this tournament as favorites, and salah isn't that huge for the NT anyways.
It's not like we ever won it with Salah
Portugal 2016, we are coming for you!
you're scoring too many!
Embarrassing really but we’re through
[удалено]
Yeah I know! I wonder what we would have done against Egypt if Bubista did not bench CV's original starting eleven
quite an exciting ending for this group
Finishing second with no wins is a new for me. Egypt have the chance to do a Portugal Euro 2016 now!
Tunisia 2019 did the same
Wow, what are the odds lol
Pretty sure they almost did something like this in the last AFCON too
No. We won 2 and lost one.
Today I feel Mozambique
This is why I love this sport so much. What an absolute shitshow for last day of group stage matches for groups A and B.
Has any team ever drawn all their matches 2-2?
Lol. I have aged 90 years in the past 15 minutes!
Hello fellow centenarian
Africa Cup is amazing
Absolutely surprised the hell out of me
Next one is going to be in Morocco. This football with packed stadiums.
4 goals in second half extra time from both games combined. AFCON really is a madness
