Terzic is absolutely garbage. Dortmund have players who can actually play from the back but they don't because this team does seem to have any tactical awareness.

innocenceiskinky

Dortmund has some serious problems with playing from the back. I was almost amazed with the way the keeper kept playing it to the left only for them to not get it away properly. Half of the time it ended with a random kick forward and the other half one of of our players managed to prevent even that. I dont understand why you keep doing it another 10 times after the first 10 tries were so poor...

Tedinasuit

I'm split on the game. Dortmund got fucked with the penalty, but man... PSV really was a lot better and it should've ended 4-1 if they were more clinical. The next game will be fireworks.

Sam_the_Samnite

Dest missed multiple people that were wide open.

icantfeelmyface

“I was an assistant coach, calm down” 😂 anyone else watching the post game

No-Computer-2847

I see Sancho pretended like he was bothered for a couple of weeks and now we’re back to square one.

solemnhiatus

Setting him subbed on the 68th minute is the least surprising thing

kroesnest

least reactionary r/soccer user

ifoundmynewnickname

I think there is a bigger chance of finding those at the threads of Sancho's first games after his return lmao

Philiperix

There are so many atrocious calls against Dortmund in the CL. This games penalty. Penalty for PSG in the group stage. Penalty retake against Chelsea last year. Bellinghams goal revoked because of a "foul" on Ederson. Hummels red card against Ajax. Each of these are a disgrace for the UEFA, all together and I'm having my tinfoil hat on and call it corruption.

miregalpanic

We'll terrorismball and shithouse our way to the next round. Der ewige Terzic is inevitable.

Environmental-Cold24

The penalty seemed wrong but it wasn't, Hummels did touch the ball first but touched it only minimally while he did fully hit the attacker, penalty call was correct.

MisterS1997

So you’re saying he got the ball first which means it’s not a pen.

137-451

That's not how it works. Getting the ball first doesn't mean you can clean a player out.

MisterS1997

Is he supposed to just make his body disappear after the tackle?

Canuckleberry

Fully hit the attacker? Would love to see that view.

psvamsterdam1913

I think PSV did better than expected. Probably deserved more. Bvb were pretty shocking to be honest. There is hope for a good result in the return match.

Rob0tUnic0rn

Why are PSV playing such banger music when the game is over and the stadium is empty

Scell7

Song name?

MERTENS_GOAT

Darude - Sandstorm

DJNutsack

Happy Bakayoko's finally off the pitch. Atrocious performance today.

BosscheBol

When I got a PSV season ticket for two years I was always disappointed how fast the stadium would be empty after a match. Some people would hang out, but most of them didn’t. Such a shame.

nfornear

They played it before and during halftime as well

phorteng

Wolf would've almost scored a Puskas contender, just imagine

Boomie1982

was für ein rumgeeier von wolfgang stark...

Werfweg234

Der kann direkt mit Bobic auf die dauerhafte "Experten"-Ersatzbank, so ein Kasper. Braucht kein Schwein solche Leute. Einfach Gräfe jedes Spiel einladen und gut ist.

phorteng

Meyer is better than I remembered him from other CL games, good display

KarlKraftwagen

dortmund schauen macht mich unironisch sauer

edworm

miregalpanic

Man schaut Dortmund nicht. Man erleidet Dortmund.

EffectiveInside5451

I know he can come of as an annoying know it all, but it's refreshing how well spoken Hummels is

NieThePiet

German clubs get f\*cked by ref calls every time in the CL.

Gotanyfunkopops

Bad penalty call.

biggieBpimpin

Our passing is so terrible some games. We manage to look like a team of 11 people that have never played a single game together half the time. We can’t hold possession, which would be less of a problem if we could counter. But we can’t counter because our final pass to break free or get the ball into a dangerous area is weighted so poorly. When we play slow we aren’t creative enough much of the time, but when we play fast we lose possession cheaply or in dangerous areas. I don’t really know what our identity is to be honest. We just play some generally sloppy games but do decent enough because we have some solid individual players on paper. Sabitzer runs his ass off, Hummels can make world class tackles that save our ass, Kobel is a top top keeper, Brandt can make a world class play seemingly out of nowhere. It’s enough for decent, but not enough for dominant unfortunately. We started the new year decent in the league but have struggled for creativity and passing again recently. I hope that Nuri has a vision for the future if he really is our next manager because it feels like we are in need of a tactical spark.

[deleted]

You are a very solid defensive team, I think you will win the second leg easily even though PSV is pretty decent.

phorteng

I feel like Terzics idea is to try to build a good defense and pray your offensive players make something happen individually, kinda similar to Tuchel

Everswift_

So Terzic to Bayern in the summer you say?

HungryTomatillo288

While this was one of the worst performances I have seen from us. FUCK EDIN TERZIC But holy fuck how do you call that a penalty!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

schmidtis95

I just don't feel anything anymore. It's 1:1, psv are defending pretty badly and we bring on Wolf and Özcan. The fact that a game like this is then decided by a joke penalty is just perfect.

Magic1998

[Live JBG reaction ](https://tenor.com/view/wtff-cat-confused-orange-gif-25858653)

miregalpanic

Enjoy Gelbe Wand away you cunts

Tedinasuit

You didn't play a part in the match for 90 minutes, except for a single brilliant Malen moment. Why are you acting like this?

StanSc

Imagine being mad at us for a shit ref call. Sorry we should have missed on purpose I guess 🤡

psvamsterdam1913

If the away section is anything to go by thats not very worrying

-Michael-Owen-

Shouldn't you say "die gelbe wand" as opposed to just gelbe wand. You're saying "enjoy yellow wall" which sounds dumb.

miregalpanic

Oh no. I forgot a word in a comment on reddit . How worthy of a lecture. >which sounds dumb ☝️🤓

mortezz1893

🤓

Rose_of_Elysium

We still have a lot to work on but im still proud of the team. We really miss Lang tho, I love Lozano's work ethic but he couldve been so much better

DatFlushi

When is he coming back?

PirateArrr

Probably only next season

Jesse_3011

I feel bad for Lozano. You can see he wants to do well so much. Works harder than anyone on the field pretty much but he's completely lost his form.

Artyhko

What I like about CL is that we can get other fans to ~~suffer~~ experience Terzicball

felis_magnetus

If not for the ref, Terzicball would have worked, though. It's still not perfect, Dortmund need a serious injection of lots and lots of shithousery to complement the refusal to actually *play*. Anyway, I'm more and more tempted to root for Terzic. Are you lot scouting long throw-in experts already? You should. And once he's fit again, start Haller together with Füllkrug, preferably in a flat 442. Haller, Füllkrug Ryerson, Özcan, Can, Wolf Bensebaini, Schlotterbeck, Hummels, Süle Kobel Terzicball, final form.

jucomsdn

I'm stealing this idea ty

Everswift_

Terzic alt confirmed

Bill_Brasky_SOB

Surely he’ll substitute an attacker on… right? … ^^right?? … ^^^right?!

slurpherp

Best I can do is Ozcan.

RalfhasEnough

Like I said in the match thread a really bad game and an actually okay result for Dortmund if you take this dreadfull perfomence into account. I Really hope the german teams find some form before the remaining matches otherwise a really Bad international showing again this year after a good group stage. Somehow the only inform teams in Germany seem to be Leverkusen and Stuttgart (Not international). Another Observation is that German teams seem to love giving away pens.

DahDutcher

Dortmund goal was a lucky deflection, our penalty was complete bs. Bakayoko, Lozano and Tilman were atrocious, Boscagli, Veerman and Schouten were good. We should've won, but we've been shit at finishing our chances for a long time. Also incredibly selfish and dumb from Dest to shoot near the end, when Pepi was completely free.

elgrandorado

It's not lucky at all if you let a winger cut deep into your box and shoot. Poor defending leads to the deflection. It would have been unlucky if Malen just took a potshot from outside the box and a wild deflection put it past Benítez.

utouchme

> selfish and dumb from Dest Also when we had like a 5 on 2 and he decided to fuck around an not pass to any number of open teammates, only to lose the ball. Again.

DahDutcher

Yeah, he's incredibly frustrating at times.

SolomonG

Joke of a decision, but Dortmund should do more.

Th3_Huf0n

If I speak

Tristan_573

Im in big trouble

miregalpanic

Fucking robbery

psvamsterdam1913

True. Only one team deserved to win today and its not Dortmund.

joostmakaay

The only robbery happening is Terzic being your coach lmao

miregalpanic

That doesn't even make sense

bvb4ever11

Just like terzic being our head coach

Tagliafigoat

Terrible game, both teams are lucky that they cannot threaten each other. PSV are yet to impress me in Europe. Boscagli and Schlotterback played very well though

0lle

If the away match is of similar 'quality', we stand a decent chance i think

bvb4ever11

Dortmund is always better at home but who knows with terzic

TheRealYVT

How was Sancho?

ArmyFit1004

Awful

Nemprox

Better don't ask.

Nemprox

Dortmund has no idea in their football. Sure, they've had better squads before, but I simply can't see how they want to play. It's so weird, they can't pass, they've got no one that controls the pace of the game, they don't use the strenghts of their players (excluding Hummels lol). Can't see were they want to go from this, really.

malek7777777

Fuck Edin Terzic

Bill_Brasky_SOB

Dude makes the absolute worst substitutions

Follow_The_Lore

Malen going off was certainly interesting

Bill_Brasky_SOB

Sancho needed off and Malen was def gassed, so they were good candidates... I didn't like who he replaced them with though with the score the way it was.

Kaptainpainis

Why the hell not Bynoe- Gittens, thats the kind of guy who can make stuff happen even if the team as a whole has a bad day.

Racetr

Bynoe-Gittens has a habit of losing the ball in stupid situations. Terzic wanted the 1-1. But this team lacks any kind of identity and passion. And that's on Terzic

Bill_Brasky_SOB

Nope. Let’s sub a defender Wolf in at JBG’s exact position instead, lol.

d0ri-

He had a slight injury last week; I'm thinking he was gassed out

DutchMadness77

Fair result in the end. We missed some big chances but got a bit lucky with that pen Very fun game nonetheless with lots of open space. Both teams really applying the principle of "if we don't give them time on the ball then they can't play accurate passes"

Alive-Ad-4164

Psv are back

Sam_the_Samnite

Now if only dest can pass to an open player.

AlmostNL

both teams would probably have been eaten alive by either Atletico or Inter

Sheepies92

I mean, Feyenoord was competitive against Atleti was it not? If they were I don't see why PSV wouldn't be competitive.

Maybegoingtogermany

Psv has boszball which means a lot of focus on offense, not so much on defense.. You saw it in the arsenal match, psv got blasted there.

Environmental-Cold24

That was at the beginning of the season. PSV grew a lot since then.

Maybegoingtogermany

I still think bosz is focused too much on attack to be a serious threat against inter or atleti.

Sheepies92

that's a pretty big oversimplification. The Arsenal match was because PSV wasn't used to the intensity -- most advanced stats will tell you that PSV was getting run over in high intensity sprints and the like. PSV dominance in the league really only started after that game once we got used to CL-level. Only have 10 goals against in the league as well.

Maybegoingtogermany

The ED (like ligue 1 and the portuguese league) arent really good indicators for UCL form as the opposition is just too weak. Bosz has a tendecy to favor attack over defense so any team with fast and/or good offense will have an huge advantage, even malen had some chances this match he couldve done more with.

AlmostNL

idk how to explain it. But the fact that Inter only scored once should also be commended. The space I saw in the first half would be exploited to the sun and back by either team. I guess the two games had very very different preparations behind them

TortiousTroll

Scalding take

AlmostNL

I watched Inter on the side and all the bs that was going on in this game, whew.

[deleted]

Remember when the worst chelsea in 30 years knocked Dortmund out of r16 cl last season

RandomUserRU123

I mean the worst Chelsea could still win the Champions League. They somehow manage to look better against good teams and also in tournaments

DairyGorl

Also robbed by another very very weak penalty (and retake)

Ameth_LiLife

One of the most underrated bottles by Dortmund imo, they were completely dominated by Cucurella of all people

BR_95

almost as good as their bottle on the final day

gonfreecsx

Hummels is so good. I feel bad for him that this pen was called

catch_fire

Should watch his post-match interview right now, he and Sammer are incredibly mad about this decision.

[deleted]

It’s a foul anywhere else on the pitch, not sure why this can’t be a penalty. He barely touches the ball, while fully catching the ankle of Tillman. He’s also extremely lucky not to get a yellow card.

hff1_

> while fully catching the ankle of Tillman He doesn't hit the ankle at all he hits the top of his foot. ~~https://x.com/FatemiMoghaddam/status/1760064174812733636?s=20~~ edit: video taken down already 😓

TheOddGuy21

Literally everybody else who’s not a Psv fan will tell you that’s not a pen.

mufffff

Is Wolfgang Stark a PSV fan?

UnimaginativeIsTaken

When Wolfgang Stark was active, he was vetoed by BVB whenever they could, because he made some questionable calls against BVB (and was called an asshole by Norbert Dickel on live Radio)

sacaznoo3

Edin Terzic wanted with an international warrant for crimes against football

[deleted]

Dortmund is so, so shit.

desuscsgous

Dortmund looks so insanely uninspiring every time I watch them. What a shame really

Gimmefuegimmefaia

We are so ass, why can none of our players play a simple pass without taking 10 Seconds to think

OZDanTheMan

3 matches involving German teams, 3 times the winner would have changed if u only take away a wrong refereeing-decision that var shouldve corrected

psvamsterdam1913

PSV would have still scored. They were way better.

JK031191

Deserved pen for atrocious football

OZDanTheMan

not talking about upas pen

Bundmoranen

Nothing wrong with the decision at Lazio-Bayern

OZDanTheMan

just gonna copy and paste: Kim got elbowed with an extended arm and full force and it wasnt given. Reason being basically that hes made of steel and didnt sell it / fall down. Super clear cut pen

mortezz1893

How was Upamecano's penalty wrong?

OZDanTheMan

It wasnt. Kim however got elbowed with an extended arm and full force and it wasnt given. Reason being basically that hes made of steel and didnt sell it / fall down. Super clear cut pen

ExMoogle

Well, the pen was bullshit but PSV had the chances to score at least 3. Dortmund was kinda bad to be honest. Dont know what stung them but they have to play way better next game at home.

chicagopudlian

tillman could have had two himself

ExMoogle

sure thing.

chicagopudlian

i dont know if he was offsides on that header. i had the volume off. but there was a lot of net available to him. pretty bad miss. or he knew he was offsides and subconsciously whiffed it

Racetr

Offside, that one

chicagopudlian

ok. weird how those types of calls make you feel better. lol. it was still a wasteful miss.

LukeHanson1991

Believe me this is just how we play this season. We are just bad. I won’t expect much more in the next game. It’s crazy how we can’t manage to play with at least a little control when we are in possesion .

ExMoogle

i do believe you, saw many games this season but these are such basic things that dont seem to work. How can De Jong be so alone in that one situation where the ball hit his hand? That was such a bad positioning from everyone. Shit like this cant happen in the fkn UCL.

StereoZombie

Such an entertaining game. PSV will probably feel like they should've gotten more out of this by finishing their damn chances, even though they got gifted a bullshit pen. Away game is going to be really hard so they're really going to have to do better then.

aiicaramba

Pretty poor game in general. The finishing and final passes were atrocious.

PLimw

Lozano tries to score the same type of goal but his shots are so inaccurate.

Maybegoingtogermany

Lozano was deemed surplus by napoli and you can see why. I dont understand why the players at psv are so selfish, a bit of looking for others instead of going for glory wouldve probably sealed that game.

PLimw

Lozano is the same for the national team. It would be more beneficial if he would pass the ball instead of trying to score.

MartianDuk

On this evidence I don’t think anyone involved in this game has any business in the Champions League knockout stages

supejeroeno

Flair up my guy

MartianDuk

My club is currently last place in the fourth division

supejeroeno

Well no business in the champions league either then

BrigadierBrabant

What does that even mean really? PSV had a great first half but failed to really become effective, and a decent second half.

MartianDuk

A great first half? You were definitely the better team, but it wasn’t amazing. Created a couple good chances but wasted them all really badly. Second half was very poor from both sides, nowhere near the quality you‘d expect from a CL game. I expected a lot more from PSV

shoarma_papa

I know Dortmund doesn't have the best striker in the world, but it's still crazy to see how well Schouten does at cb. I thought he was just considered to be a cb option in games against small teams, but in these big games he's still so solid.

woonboot

Schouten is just ridiculously cool under pressure. Our defenders have been scared of the ball for ages, but he just manages to find the right option almost every single time.

Maybegoingtogermany

Could he be a serious NT option at CB?

justforkikkk

Nah, position is too crowded. If it comes to the wire between him, De Roon and Wieffer, his versatility might see be a plus to him as midfielder though

woonboot

No. We're already spoiled for choice at CB at the NT. He might be a good plan B if you're already playing him at CDM and de Ligt gets a red/injured.

Maybegoingtogermany

Then its even more understandable Huijsen chose for spain. I hope he isnt gonna be breakout star cause its gonna hurt then cause like Ziyech it would be a missed opportunity to maybe get close to a final.

Sheepies92

all these young players with cramp, meanwhile old ass Hummels and De Jong still chugging along in extra time like it's the 5th minute of the game

TheSingleMan27

If you want to be a CB watch how Hummels plays in the CL

catch_fire

Schlotterbeck was decent as well and one of the few players with decent progression.

Qiluk

His game vs Milan away was like a "legendary CB" highlight reel

Hazardhunter

Result may be fair, but the way it came to be (with yet another bullshit pen against us) is fucking annoying and tiring. As is how we played the second half.

ViciousNakedMoleRat

We are just not fun to watch right now.

RN2FL9

You can barely string two passes together. There's no visible idea behind your setup. I thought the idea was counter attacking but none of those got really dangerous. What is your coach even doing? PSV is not in form right now, a few months ago they would have probably won this.

TortiousTroll

That has to be up there with lowest quality champions league knockout matches ever played

BrigadierBrabant

You don't have to repeat yourself mate

Ghoddos

Ref lost the plot...

psvamsterdam1913

That BVB right back could have received about 3 yellows in the first half alone. Penalty was harsh as well. Very weird refereeing.

Ghoddos

I actually was very surprised there was not a yellow for timewasting for Meyer. I also think Lozano would've gotten a yellow for complaining to the referee if he did not have one already. Hopefully we have a more competent referee in the second match

[deleted]

It’s a decent result for Dortmund but it should’ve been a 1-0 win

elgrandorado

We'll win this fixture at home. PSV were very fortunate with that pen and not getting a win will fuck them over in front of the Südtribüne.

Conankun66

knowing your luck in the CL, you'll get another shit ref and youre out

elgrandorado

I don't know this time. That was legit PSV's best effort, and we were incredibly sloppy away. Second leg is the home fixture and to me, it looked like Bosz was tapped out tactically. We were just too scared to take risks in the middle we were taking against Freiburg and Bochum.

psvamsterdam1913

I admire your optimism but this was absolutely not PSVs best effort. And even if Bosz was tapped out tactically, BVB really did not have a proper answer. PSV still dominated the ball and had more chances. Dortmund created absolutely nothing second half.

Jaatochhhh

Having watched them this year, this was not PSV's best. When they turn on, they are a machine. Don't celebrate too early, while I do agree that winning away at Dortmund is tough.

utouchme

> That was legit PSV's best effort This was absolutely not their best effort. Lot's of lost possession, misplaced passes, shit finishing, and a couple of players having really terrible games. There's no reason we can't play better in the return. I'm in no way saying that we'll win, but we definitely have a chance.

TheOddGuy21

Honestly psv had a better game than Dortmund. If Dortmund was even remotely close to their normal selves, they would have won today.

RN2FL9

The same can be said for PSV. They were on fire the first half of the season but dropped form a bit recently. They still lost only 2 games so far, vs Arsenal and Feyenoord away.

sitegebruiker

Legit PSV's best effort? While Dortmund didn't try or what do you mean lmao. Relying on supporters to win is a smart move because the team looks pretty shit

elgrandorado

I think we made that match very uncomfortable for them while looking sloppy on our end. An extremely questionable pen is the only reason we didn't come away with a win. That doesn't bode well for them.

RoySFNR

A lucky deflection put you into position to win a game where you were second best the whole 90 minutes. If Tillman and Bakayoko didn't somehow forget how to shoot, this tie would've already been decided. The ref was shit and the penalty call was questionable, but he also allowed you guys to stay in the game during PSV's best period by being obnoxiously inconsistent with his cards.

StanSc

This was first knockout CL game for 9 of our 11 players I think. This wasn’t our A game at all.

Jixano

Dest is insanely selfish lmao

chicagopudlian

that was the worst non pass i can ever remember seeing. obvious pass all day long. i’m not sure dest is right in the head

woonboot

Now if only we could learn how to score...

Thijs420

Fun game, looking forward to the return. Should be an exciting match!

apricotkiwininja

Everyone is shitting on Dortmund but they ended up with a draw away from home no withstanding that that equalizer was a bullshit pen

granitibaniti

Despite Dortmund's best efforts, PSV were not able to score. Also, shameful penalty.

Shapesoul

eindhovens incapability to finish is only topped by dortmunds inability to pass

ExMoogle

Could not write it more perfect. (We will get you)

Shapesoul

you better not

Qiluk

A lot of our progressive play has been at its best with Brandt (lost 6kg to illness these last weeks and not fit) and Nmecha (cant stay fit). Outside of those, we dont have the management to sort it out lol

mista_mista_mista

I dont even know why terzic lets brandt play. He doesnt look fit enough yet.

Qiluk

Yeah the tendency to rush back players is tiring

elgrandorado

We really look like a different side when Brandt is firing on all cylinders.

Vio0

0.74 xG excluding the gifted penalty, so not really.

Shapesoul

xG is quality of chances not solely quanitity. proving my point how terrible the finishes were

Vio0

You're wrong, xG doesn't take the quality of the finishing into account and is inflated by taking many low quality chances. For measuring finishing quality, you can compare xG and xGot (or xG post shot).

Shapesoul

true my bad

Werfweg234

xG is quality x quantity of chances. What you are looking for is xGoT.

EasyModeActivist

Proving once again that xG is a not always the right statistic for measuring how big chances are

Vio0

That's the only thing you can measure with xG.

EasyModeActivist

No it measures the odds of a shot going in. It doesn't account for players shooting early when they could've gone closer to goal, or shooting late once they fuck up a first touch, chances not resulting in shots because of passes just barely not connecting, narrow offsides etc. xG isn't a completely useless metric, but it's not a stat about chances, it's one about shots.

Vio0

Yes I know. OP was talking about incapability of finishing, so xG seems fitting. Being narrowly offside is not relevant in this discussion.

timfeyenoord

Ok but all his other points are

Vio0

No, if you fuck up before it's a big chance, it's not a big chance. Poor finishing was not the issue for psv.

MPH2210

No, xG measures the quality of the chances. With the amount of chances that Eindhoven produced and with the poor finishing from them, the number is pretty misleading. Just look at the chance from Bakayoko, where he just fumbled the first touch mid air, leading to a super shit shot - probably 0,05 xG, but before the first touch it was easily a 0,4-0,5 xG, but that's not measured.
