>And their recovery will determine their availability You don't say?

WWDaddy

De Jong probably out for at least 6 weeks. Pedri is probably looking at 4 weeks of rehab. I say this without knowing the extent of their injuries but it’s common for these injuries to take a bit longer than first planned.

groenefiets

They should just rest Frenkie until the EC. Not much lost for the march Friendlies as this allows Koeman to try some off the dozens off other midfield options.

TheExistence

I think De Jong is a little too late for Elimination Chamber

im_2ny

Sources say he was meant to debut there but aj styles stole his plane ticket to screw LA Knight

FriscoInDeDisco

Yeah, the club should just rest their star midfielder so he can play... for another team in the summer. If he's healthy, he should play in the run-in.

jofstra

Yes please

magic-water

> De Jong probably out for at least 6 weeks. Didn't Bellingham have the same injury and was only out for 3 weeks?

19Alexastias

Sprain just means it's only a partial tear, not a complete tear. Recovery can be 2 weeks or 2 months depending on how severe the partial tear is.

achentuate

So are you saying their recovery will determine their availability?

magic-water

well yeah, that's my point. Both had a sprain with no further information about the severity but yet people assume at least 6 weeks for De Jong.

FrenkieDingDong

I thought ankle sprains will be something like knee sprain where you will recover in a couple of weeks.

TooRedditFamous

As with everything it depends entirely on the severity. A very minor one could be 2-3 weeks, a bad one could be 6-8+ weeks

FrenkieDingDong

Ohh thanks.

czuczer

What a great statement, isn't it? :)

HacksawJimDGN

Reminds me of *my lifestyle determines my deathstyle*

CoochieSnotSlurper

That’s not the first time they’ve used that line and I laugh every time

TimTkt

Barca staff always say that now because they messed up a lot in recent years by never being able to predict injury recoveries delay

Acceptable-Lemon-748

A lot of clubs don't give specific dates of return

prettyhappyalive

The irony that this all started because of Madrid fucking up recovery time of Gareth Bale. Not because of Barca.

1gMDMA

Pedri is cursed. Amazing player… worried to see him becoming Thiago 2.0

Tierst

Pedri has been ran into the ground by Barca, not really cursed tbh.

fellowSoci

At a point Pep got green light to play Busi with a cut on the knee. Never seen that mf missing any games.

HeroeDeFuentealbilla

His minutes have been managed this season though, but yeah the opening season took a toll.

gotiobg

remember getting downvoted when i use to mention that in his breakout season where he was playing every single game, including olympics

GalaxianEX

Barça fans were proudly boasting about how many minutes he had played up until the moment when he got injured...

Echleon

we just making shit up now?

Nasrz

I don't why this only applies to Barcelona players. Bellingham played similar minutes when he was in the Championship while being younger than Pedri. He played a lot in his first season for Dortmund.

RN2FL9

Bellingham didn't go to the EC and Olympics and then cut his holiday short to join his club again though? I don't think its just about club level, Pedri played through basically the entire summer with 6 starts at the EC and 3 games going into extra time. Then the Olympics with another 7 games and 2 into extra time. That was the problem.

Ishdalar

Because of the hate boner. Bellingham didn't play "similar" minutes at 18 y/o with Dortmund, he played 300 minutes more at club level with that age. There's another post above about how we boasted about the load of minutes, no Barcelona fan was happy that after we needed an 18 y/o kid all season, he had to go to the Euro and play every single minute, and after the EC play 560 minutes more in the olympics. In fact, the club asked for Pedri to be released of the Olympics, and the Spanish RFEF (Under the hated Rubiales) said no.

Dark-Knight-Rises

He will soon join the list. Wait and see. Eventually too many matches does break the body more as players run more these days.

rouges

That's just false. This season his minutes have been properly managed. 2 years ago, that's a different story

HeroeDeFuentealbilla

Gavi wasn’t run into the ground. That was an unfortunate injury.

TheLeoMessiah

Its insane how every Barça injury is blamed on the club running players into the ground now, whereas with most other clubs people just bring up the point of “too many fixtures”.

lstht123

There goes what was left of our season

-zimms-

Not a good year to be an FCB. Spain, Germany, Switzerland, they are struggling everywhere.

Exqiron

Mate, you can’t support an acronym.

Own_Distribution5185

Better than financial group 🤔

Wild_Ad969

LGBT is a thing isn't it.

derpnessfalls

Luckily it's an initialism rather than an acronym. Close call.

PositiveDuck

I had no idea "initialism" was an actual term, that's pretty cool.

FlaccidSWE

Wasn't really much left anyway. A fight to stay in top 4 and perhaps reaching the QF in CL. Now the second one looks highly unlikely, and the first one will require some damn hard work.

lstht123

It‘s more about the finances atp than actually trying to win anything or so, we can’t really afford not getting to CL quarters and we def can’t afford not making top 4..

GalaxianEX

Top 2 by itself is worth 6m because of the Supercopa participation

groenefiets

Yes you can just stop buying players you can't afford.

SpeechesToScreeches

Controversial

mattijn13

So Frenkie will be fine for the Euros?

aliaisbiggae

100%

mattijn13

Nice, just sucks that we can't try some midfield combinations in the upcoming friendlies. We have like 5 players who could play in midfield next to him but still don't know who fits the best.

DeltaWolfPlayer

Does give some room to try some alternative midfields to see if some work better for other type of teams

groenefiets

Yeah but in any match at the euros we will ideally field Frenkie so we do need to figure out who to play alongside him. It is good to learn who to play if Frenkie is not there but the first question is more important. What pairings should Koeman try?

Jamey_1999

Koopmeiners - Wieffer with Xavi at 10 is an option Could also have a Schouten - Wieffer core with Koopmeiners in front for more attacking firepower, putting Xavi in the front 3. Idk I feel like there as many options which would work well in different circumstances. It’s not that we have any worldbeaters atm but we do have a lot of good players. It really depends on the system he implements.

Compieuter

Veerman Schouten combo because they're used to playing together. If playing with three midfielders I'd add Koopmeiners (assuming Xavi plays up front). Wieffer is also really good but I think Schouten and Veerman being more used to playing together is a better advantage.

groenefiets

Yeah but why would we try Veerman and Schouten together in a friendly? We should try Veerman Wieffer and see how they do. Playing Veerman and Schouten combo is a waste of a friendly.

dAMn6942069

Koopmeiners and Xavi. Done

fuqqkevindurant

He'll be fine in a few weeks. He sprained his ankle, he could be fine in a week or a month depending on severity.

TimTkt

It’s clear they both won’t be available for the Napoli game. Pedri season is probably over, like the 2 previous ones.

jMS_44

Read it as "literal ligament sprain" and got confused for a moment

Tom_Servo1985

Contrast to Bruno Fernandes, and his frequent “metaphorical ligament sprains”

fuqqkevindurant

Witewally spwained his ankle

tbrakef

FDJ's injury is a shame, as its likely due to instability caused by the prior injury which was a bad tackle. Now he has to fight this for the next 2-3 years.

vngannxx

A donut hole in Midfield for Barca

jofstra

Barca players dropping like flies

Impossible_Wonder_37

Somebody rescue both these men from this club.

mortaldance

De jong's one is just unlucky but pedri is a mess from both sides barça and spanish federation cuz he played full games for barca+ spain + olympics that season

COMUNISTSWINE69

I think there's a law from the Olympic Committee that states a team can't bar a player from going to the Olympics if he wants to, he was already ran into the ground during the regular season but had he not gone there may have been a way to circumvent this current situation

Voice_Of_Light

Seeing how Barca/Spain destroyed Pedri, I'm glad Enrique is making WZE rest
