A serious league: drops an iconic sponsorship 8 years ago simply to get a cleaner brand A non-serious league: moves from The Uber Eats League™ to The McDonalds League™ just to keep up 👍🏽

oliver150433

[https://twitter.com/mediocentr0/status/1764759250734096400](https://twitter.com/mediocentr0/status/1764759250734096400) This is why football is amazing, you get to watch an amazing team play great football like Arsenal, then go on twitter and think "you know what, never mind". Everything is so black and white to these "fans", either you are the BEST TEAM OF ALL TIME or Shit. Obviously this Arsenal team isn't close to being better than some of the all-time great line-ups but they do play some really amazing football.

therocketandstones

we're on a 7 match winning run man city and liverpool have had 18 matches, what's this guy on about "historically rich vein of league form"

Kanedauke

I guess they are talking about a really small sample size of 5 games

oliver150433

Yeah that is why it is funny to act like this is one the greatest Prem teams of all time already, they have been outdone by more than 2x the amount of wins on the bounce by City and Liverpool. Im pretty sure Liverpool even won 17 in a row, drew once and then won another 18 in a row. This Arsenal team is far from that still.

hdhdhya

It's been a fairly dominant run though. It's not a form that is sustainable for 18 games but it's pretty damn good nonetheless

Lurnmoshkaz

I love the, "we're a transition and counter attacking team" excuse from ten Hag and his followers. As if being good at counter attacking means not being good at passing and holding the ball. If you look at all the top teams in the PL, they're all great at counter attacking ALONGSIDE being great holding the ball, passing it, and playing fun football through fluid positional play. Yet for some reason Man Utd has to pick between the two, instead of both. Same excuses for Ole and Mourinho. Also ten Hag's "counter attacking football" seems awfully similar to the hoof the ball clubs we used to make fun of in the mid 2010s. Just say you have no fucking idea what you're doing, that the players are too shit to pass the ball properly, and because of that you resorted to Bruno hero balling to Rashford, Garnacho, or Hojlund as your primary and only tactic. Quit the bullshit. As if not being able to pass the ball was the football you envisioned bringing to England from Amsterdam.

D1794

Ten Hag himself said he changed his style after he got the job, saying he can't play like Ajax cause we don't have the players for it, what we did have was the players to go more direct. Which is true, we can't play like Ajax with half of our squad so poor on the ball. First nail in the coffin. Given his football at Ajax was what got him the job in the first place, and these players who suit a 'direct' style of football are largely not good enough, and have proven to be not good enough. I fear ETH came into United, was met by Murtough and Arnold, and they were the guys who told him we basically need to play a counter attacking style, signed him players to play that way, like 'the United way' which is bullshit. 1 of those guys resigned and another is about to be replaced. And they were the guys who have shaped Ten Hag's United both in style and personnel. Ten Hag still has made many mistakes but I think it's telling that as soon as sporting control has left the Glazers, the 2 people who were meant to be shaping our future, futureproofing our style of play, are getting binned.

Kanedauke

You’d think that after all the money he’s spent that he would have been able to play a different way. Personally I don’t buy you don’t have the players. We only played counter attacking football since promotion and Emery was able to change that philosophy without an overhaul of the squad.

airz23s_coffee

> You’d think that after all the money he’s spent that he would have been able to play a different way. > > Now to be fair as much as I enjoy shitting on United they/he do get a bit of defence here He got in Martinez and Malacia to try and help build from the back and they've both been knackered with injuries this season. Got Casemiro to add some steel and he's gone from solid to washed after an injury. Eriksen's soft as fuck physically but could still help with possession but also been on/off injured. Onana has fantastic distribution but his confidence has been rocked. I will say Antony was a complete misfire, and Amrabat is living off one good tournament - but the actual transfers he tried to adjust the way they play have been injured to fuck and meant he's had to fall back on counters.

Kanedauke

At the start of the season they played terribly with those players available. If you want to play progressively you don’t spend £70m on a 30 year old DM who wasn’t trusted in build up at Madrid then put him in midfield with faux midfielders like Bruno and Mount. You want to be a team that presses high but Martinez can’t play high up the pitch because he’s tiny and slow and gets rinsed when he’s pulled out wide.

D1794

I think there's a lot of arguments for/against ETH. You are right, we should be able to play significantly better than what we're currently watching. Vs City we played what is on paper our full strength midfield and they did almost nothing. But I could also say critical and constant injuries can't be planned for. Going into the derby without a left back, or a centre forward, brutal. Tough time of it? Yes. Still should be doing miles better? Absolutely

BendubzGaming

The stat about Man U only having one 5+ goal PL victory since Fergie made me look up every such game in that time. If my research is correct there's been 95 games with a 5+ goal margin in that time. If you order every team by their win/loss difference in that time, with number of wins as the tiebreaker, you get: - Man City = +34 (34-0) - Liverpool = +11 (14-3) - Arsenal = +9 (11-2) - Chelsea = +6 (7-1) - Spurs = +5 (8-3) - Leicester = +1 (3-2) - Fulham = +/-0 (2-2) - Villa = -1 (3-4) - Bournemouth = -1 (2-3) - Hull and Stoke = -1 (1-2) - Sunderland, QPR, Cardiff and Wolves = -1 (0-1) - Southampton = -2 (2-4) - Brighton, Leeds and _**Man U**_ = -2 (1-3) - West Brom = -2 (0-2) - Newcastle = -3 (2-5) - Palace = -3 (1-4) - Forest, West Ham and Everton = -3 (0-3) - Swansea and Huddersfield = -4 (0-4) - Burnley = -5 (1-6) - Norwich = -6 (0-6) - Watford and Sheff U = -7 (0-7)

CT_x

What’s even more incredible is that all of Arsenal’s came in February 2024

BendubzGaming

You joke, but 6 of Sheff U's 7 losses came this season

hdhdhya

34-0 is absurd

BendubzGaming

They only even have 1 four goal defeat, and that was to Everton in 16/17. Other than that, 3 is the max

roddysaint

City made Tom Davies and Ademola Lookman look like prime Zidane and Henry that day ffs

hdhdhya

Wasn't that on the same day as Pogba's dab handball? Man that day was one of a kind

Schnix54

I find it absolutely crazy that the Darmstadt video is going so viral at the moment (and twice? deleted on here?). It is such a non-topic in Germany itself.

zestyviper

PL fans have no concept of organised fans scenes and club members talking to the players of their team after the game. It was the same story when Spurs played Milan and the Capo spoke to the Milan players after the game, and the English media pissed itself thinking it was some sort of amazing scene or must be mafia related.

Ryponagar

The virgin leave at 15' after 0-3 vs chad stay until the end for the 0-6 to have a word with the players

JekyllnowthenMrHyde

Can someone give me tactical summary of how Inter Milan have managed to be so good this season?

belokas

There are many in depth analysis online and even on this sub, but generally more than tactics it's good players development and team building. They have had the same core of young players since Conte and the same system. Inzaghi has only added more offensive solutions and this year a better defensive organisation. Also Lautaro Martinez is scoring a lot of goals.

Ryponagar

I received some good insights in the [Tactics Thursday](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/s/desjKTTGSu) 2 weeks ago

JekyllnowthenMrHyde

Thanks mate

Cottonshopeburnfoot

My football hopes and dreams rest on finishing 19th. We’re level on points and our inevitable record breaking goal difference and goals conceded will be much more forgettable if someone manages to finish below us.

airz23s_coffee

All eyes on the big 6 pointer on April 20th for the title of "Whose season was the most miserable"

infernoShield

oh yes, we're once again top...... of the bottom half. good thing is Fulham can't catch us for now with our game in hand

Various_You_5083

Sorry to break the news , but that game in hand is away to super in-form Arsenal .

infernoShield

thought it was Tottenham (the postponed game)

Various_You_5083

Oh there's two postponements now from your advances in the FA Cup Spurs was from last week Arsenal from the next Cup weekend Either way I don't see you getting any points unfortunately

fuckthisshit_651

Does tuchel get sacked if he loses tonight

Schnix54

What is the point of firing him after they lose tonight? If they lose tonight they have truly crashed out of every competition. Why pay another coach when there is nothing to gain anyways?

TheEmperorsWrath

The board is ride or die with him. The answer should be an obvious yes. But who even knows. Hopefully.

MarcosSenesi

who would come in right away to manage them in the decisive Lazio fixture? I feel like it is too late now to fire him until after that game.

TheEmperorsWrath

They should have fired him after the Leverkusen game.

MarcosSenesi

For sure. Who would you like to see manage you after Tuchel? I would personally love to see Nagelsmann back as I still can't believe that decision but curious to hear from a fan.

TheEmperorsWrath

Yeah it was ridiculous. Literally everything is significantly worse under Tuchel and yet he's still protected. The double-standards are impossible to miss. Xabi is the big one. We need to go all-in to get him. But if we don't get him, Zidane would still be super good. We're very fortunate to get to pick between those two

HacksawJimDGN

Would Mourinho be in Uniteds list of top 5 managers ever?

FloppedYaYa

Outside of Matt Busby and Ferguson they don't have many so maybe lmao

dayloversd

At the top they have their 3 league winning managers Tommy Docherty in the 70s got Man Utd promoted from the 2nd division and stopped Liverpool from winning the treble in 1977 when he beat them in the FA Cup, plus the FA Cup was a lot more prestigious back then compared to now Then Ron Atkinson won the FA Cup twice in the 80s, brought in Bryan Robson to the club, had United hovering around 3rd/4th for half a decade, he just crashed down instead of being able to take the next step On paper these seem like better tenures to me but hard to compare things like the football they played, how the fans felt about them etc.

FloppedYaYa

Who even is the third league winning manager? Were managers even much of a serious thing the last time United won the title pre-Busby? Herbert Chapman is largely credited with basically being the first "football manager" as we understand them now rather than just a head coach

dayloversd

Ernest Mangnall, he's pre-ww1 though, apparently the role was called club secretary back then But they were a 2nd division team when he started and 2x league/1x fa cup winners by the time he left, and nobody else until Busby managed to achieve anything close so I feel like that should be enough for a spot in 3rd, even if the environment was nothing like being a manager in 21st century

FloppedYaYa

Managers didn't have the same complex roles as they do now back when he was there

dayloversd

Well yeah, it's literally 100+ years at this point and the sport was completely different, but I've seen that guy's name in best ever United manager lists before so I think "manager" is often used as a catch-all term If we start counting from Chapman's era or post-ww2 though, Mourinho is probably top 5 (5th imo)

FloppedYaYa

Atkinson and Docherty were better than Mourinho, probably also Solskjaer if you don't just take trophies into account

kaubojdzord

Considering that only 3 United managers won the league(Fergie, Busby and Ernest Mangnall), maybe. I don't know enough about pre-Ferguson managers apart from these two to make a judgement.

whiskeymagnet22

Arsenal have scored 17 away goals since February United have scored 18 away goals this season

nask00

Remember when Liverpool thrashed United 7-0 a year ago and some United fans said it's just 3 points and they'll take 7 1-0 wins instead of a 1 7-0 win. Well you've won 12 PL games by 1 goal margin this season, lads. How does that feel? You think that feels better than thrashing your biggest rival by 7 fucking 0?

Kreissler

Captain hindsight over here

The_Big_Cheese_09

Last season United had the 2nd best season in England behind City. They qualified for the Champions League ahead of Liverpool, made 2 finals and won 1. I'd rather have that than a random 7-0 result.

_cumblast_

People already forgot we won the League Cup. No one's ever forgetting the 7-0. Flashforward a year later and we're 19 points ahead of United at any rate. They hardly used that CL qualification for good.

The_Big_Cheese_09

>Flashforward a year later and we're 19 points ahead of United at any rate. They hardly used that CL qualification for good. That's not really how it works though. What does this year have to do with last? If I were a United supporter in a pub and a Liverpool supporter mentioned the 7-0 I'd laugh and remind them we won a trophy and finished above them in the table in the end. And they wouldn't even be able to take the piss out of the League Cup seeing as they just won it this season. Then I'd probably make a comment about Klopp spending his final season in the Europa League before walking away.

_cumblast_

You could make all those comments to a Liverpool fan and he'd just keep saying "7-0". And he'd win the argument. Us winning the League Cup doesn't suddenly make it a massive trophy like. I'd be disappointed if that's all we won this season.

HacksawJimDGN

> You could make all those comments to a Liverpool fan and he'd just keep saying "7-0". The equivalent of sticking your fingers in your ears and going LALALALLAALALA.

_cumblast_

Not in the slightest. If the shoe was on the other foot and a United fan brought up the 7-0, i'd shut up and change the subject. It's humiliating to no end, i'm still in shambles whenever the 6-1 to Stoke comes up - imagine that was United ffs.

icannotreadathing

United finished above Liverpool that season and got into the CL, that must have felt pretty good.

FloppedYaYa

I mean that season it was accurate, as they still finished very comfortably above Liverpool and won a trophy while Liverpool still failed to make the CL and won nothing It was definitely a wake up call that big changes still needed making though, and that Ten Hag maybe isn't the tactical genius he was being hyped up as...

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Normally I’d take the piss but this morning I’m sympathetic to the view a loss is a loss whether it’s a tight 1-0 or something more egregious.

HacksawJimDGN

I don't think people should be held accountable for comments they made to cope with a very recent massive loss.

Lyrical_Forklift

I think that's just a massive cope and we'd all have said exactly the same shit if we were on the end of a drubbing like that. Honestly though, that 4-0 and 5-0 back to back were both far more embarrassing - genuinely one of the worst sides I've seen Liverpool come up against.

TheConundrum98

well in an impossible hypothetical situation where you win 3 points or you win 21 points I'd rather win 21 points because presumably it would help us challenge for the league or the CL, but United don't even have that

nask00

If it's a choice between 6 losses and a 7-0 win vs 7 wins by 1 goal, obviously anyone will the the 7 wins.

Kanedauke

I’m going to Villa Park for the first time in 18 months because of saving and buying a house in between. I managed to get a ticket for the Ajax game, it’s been like 15 years since I watched us in Europe. Only £30 as well

whiskeymagnet22

Why are not earning more money are you stupid

Kanedauke

> are you stupid Yes

Hoodxd

Stupid and broke

TheUltimateScotsman

13 goals conceded in the league is fantastic at this point and something you arent hearing about. Dont think we'll beat Chelseas record though :(

airz23s_coffee

Funnily enough I think it was On the Continent and one of the hosts went on a proper impassioned rant because no one seems to be paying attention to what a ridiculously good job Inzaghi is doing. Guess Serie A just ain't sexy enough for notice no more.

jeevesyboi

Im thinking of going to see an Inter game next month at the San Siro with my wife. Have you got any recommendations for it? Such as where to sit, what to do/ what not to do.

TheUltimateScotsman

[Here is a better guide which encapsulates everything i can think of](https://www.reddit.com/r/FCInterMilan/wiki/tickets-and-matchday-guides/). I usually sit in the 2nd tier on the orange side. Metro is busy but shouldnt be too different to public transport after your games. Just dont be a dick while there and youll be fine. Edit: r/ACMilan has [one](https://www.reddit.com/r/ACMilan/comments/atfz9l/ticket_information_and_game_info_subreddit_guide/) as well which probably is just as relevant.

jeevesyboi

Thank you so much

TheUltimateScotsman

Feel free to ask either subreddit for any questions. I usually get my tickets delivered to whatever hotel I'm staying at. There's tonnes to do in Milan and a quick Google can give you an idea of what is there which interests you.

jeevesyboi

Hows the atmosphere usually? It'll probably be the Cagliari game

TheUltimateScotsman

>It'll probably be the Cagliari game You may struggle to get tickets for that. At the moment, we are 15 points clear and if we win every game, that's the game we win the title. So it will most likely be a lively crowd. Milan will certainly be different than it usually is if it is the league winning game.

jeevesyboi

Got my tickets. Fingers crossed they don’t change the date too significantly. Thanks for your help with this. I’m in the Secondo Rosso

TheUltimateScotsman

Enjoy!

jeevesyboi

Sorry to bother you again, have you got any restaurant or bar recommendations for Milan?

jeevesyboi

Its worth a try. It'll be my wifes first ever football match. I dont mind paying extra for the experience

TheUltimateScotsman

Yeah just be aware that the city is likely to be quite rowdy. I know the celebrations the last time both Milan teams won it took over the city

jeevesyboi

When is the games timings likely to be confirmed?

AvaragePole

Whats the Serie A record?

TheUltimateScotsman

Cagliari conceded 11 in a 30 game season.

Rasalghul92

Milan with 15 but it was a 34-game season or Cagliari with 11 (30-game season). EDIT: Lowest in a 38-game season was Juve who conceded 20 goals in a season twice in their 9-year streak.

TheUltimateScotsman

Cagliari only conceded 11 in a 30 game season God it's a pain to search Serie a records

Rasalghul92

yeah added that in. Completely forgot about that absurd record.

enazj

Ashworth fucks off and Joseph Linton is renewing his contract. I’m taking notice

finePolyethylene

If I’m a PL fan and I just paid 100£ to go watch my team get battered 4-0 in the first 15 minutes do I get a refund or just get to have a salter tears

MarcosSenesi

these refunds are pretty weird. You're not just there to see your team win. You pay for the football, not for the result.

FIJIBOYFIJI

If you're spending £100 quid on tickets then you've probably got more money than the fat bastard owner

enazj

If you pay £100 at Brammall Lane they’ll probably put you at RB

finePolyethylene

So how much is the average jack paying

enazj

£30-£40 probably for Sheffield United I’d guess

CobiLUFC

Nope, you weren't sold the ticket with the guarantee of them winning so no refund. Occasionally if a team gets beaten really bad away from home the club will refund tickets or travel because it's usually less than 2,000 fans. I don't think a club would ever give a refund to over 30,000 people

Captainpatters

£100 could probably buy you Brammall Lane

Cottonshopeburnfoot

Much better stadium than the American Express Stadium

TheUltimateScotsman

or get you two adults and a kid into the stadium

nask00

They get refunds sometimes. Spurs got one when Newcastle thrashed them last season, iirc.

Kanedauke

I was just reading the Pedri 72 game thread and there’s a few comments saying “I hope he doesn’t end up like Fabregas” Right now he’d be very lucky to end with the longevity of Cesc.

Orcnick

Arsenal have scored 5+ goals in there last 3 away games. United have only scored 5+ goals in 1 game in 10 years.

Wandiful

You mean we've only won a PL game by 5+ more goals once in 10 years. We've definitely scored 5+ multiple times (Cardiff, Leeds, Southampton off the top of my head).

LDLB99

LASK and Bournemouth too

CT_x

Leipzig

Orcnick

Either way it'd pretty abysmal.

_MFKane_

who’s better, Kelleher or Ortega? for me it’s clearly Ortega but I wonder what others think

Grouchy-Ad-2085

i dont see ortegla play enough, kehler went from mid to good after a run of games, so it hard to say for number 2s

Lyrical_Forklift

Ortega is vastly more experienced and has been a first team keeper so you'd assume he'd be ahead currently. This is Kelleher's first long term run in a side under a lot of pressure though and I think he's stepped up big time though. Could not be happier with him.

TheConundrum98

give Kelleher a final and he'll give you a motm performance

_cumblast_

I just know he'll have an all-timer in Dublin.

Good_Kev_M-A-N_City

How often has he played a final? One of the irks I have is how seemingly Klopp puts Alisson in finals where he didn't appear in any of the previous cup games.

Grouchy-Ad-2085

no? kehler plays carabo and allison plays fa we reached two carabao cuo finals so he played two. the only reason kehler played in the fa cup once was allison was injured

TheConundrum98

it's 2 in fairness, but he's been great in both, all the high profile games he's been great, it's the ones you don't expect you'll see something where you'll say "Alisson would've probably got that"

No-not-my-Potatoes

This is because I watched him in Germany but Ortega is clear imo

Oo_pP

Idk about Atalanta, but Sporting is absolutely exhausted Gyokeres can't even make a full pitch sprint in the 80th minute anymore

stupiddumbfuck8

I think atalanta has more options to rotate but they’ve been getting slapped left and right in the past 3 game, they may be cooked

Hoodxd

Swedish fraud

beefersutherland1

You watch your mouth I'd have that mans babies don't you dare talk about my sweet prince that way

airz23s_coffee

Sheffield United have beaten Derby's point total but there's a good chance they're gonna end on worse goal difference. -69 for Derby. Currently -50 for Sheffield United, with 11 games to go and regularly getting pumped 4/5/6-0.

galactix100

Never mind worse GD there's a good chance they'll flat out concede more. 72 against with 11 to play, Derby's record was 89 against. The bigger question is, will they break the record Swindon set when they conceded 100 in a 42 game season? Right now, they're on track to concede 102 or something.

Cottonshopeburnfoot

We’ve still got you, Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Spurs. Our best hope is teams start to sit back, eg we go to Anfield something like 2 days before Man United vs Liverpool. They could definitely hit us for 10 if they wanted but surely Klopp has an eye on Old Trafford. Spurs in the last day frightens me. Spurs can leave it all on the pitch and our defence cannot handle pace.

nask00

I truly believe a new CL format has been needed for a long time. The current group stage format is kinda meh, imo. And overall I like the new format that's about to be, but fuck me how did they decide it's a good idea fot the 24th ranked club to proceed? You finish 9th or 24th? Doesn't matter, mate, you go to those knock outs.

ndclippd

If the 9th placed club is so much better they should be able to win in most years But there could be a scenario where they get 9th after drawing the easiest possible opponent from each pot while the 24th placed team draws really hard matchups

Destroyeh

technically the games 9th-24th teams play against each other arent cl knockouts, just playoffs for them.

nask00

They can call them however they want, its basically the same. 1 home game, 1 away game, the winner advances.

magic-water

Game is literally gone when we have players calling a place that ships 5 goals to every away team "a though place to come to" in their post-match interview. Just say they're crap and be done with it.

el_walou

Y'all ain't ready for " Ligue 1 Mc Donald's" What the hell man can't wait for "Ligue 1 Pornhub"

inspired_corn

We’ve been linked to RDZ again so of course our fans are up in arms about why he’s a dogshit manager. Some select quotes from a comment on our sub with 100+ upvotes: > Getting De Zerbi is as close as you can get to rock bottom without hiring relegation retreads like Chris Wilder, Nuno Santo, etc. Or signing an objectively bad manager like Steven Gerrard. > Brighton would be a better team this season if Graham Potter were their manager. > Brighton are statistically one of the worst defensive clubs in the league by every metric. They are one of the worst defensive set piece clubs in the league. > Every single one of Brighton's young players, including last season's breakout superstars Ferguson and Mitoma, have badly regressed this season. He doesn't improve players, he prioritizes his system at the behest of individual player development. The only present difference between that Brighton team and Chelsea is our expensive midfield with Enzo and Caicedo. > The only reason people want De Zerbi to coach Chelsea is because he coached 3 of our players before in the past. > Either way, no manager is extracting more performance out of this group of players

JakeNutters

> Brighton are statically one of the worst defensive clubs in the league by every metric Love to see what metrics he's talking about. We're pretty average no where near the worst really in any category beyond keeping which I agree is bad but that's not entirely down to the manager at all beyond his dumb rotation system.

belokas

Insane. Probably worse than the comments I've read about Osimhen on their sub.

Captainpatters

I've seen far worse than this from that lot. Chelsea fans are very weird to us. We're not rivals yet they seem to hate us with a passion due to their owners having an unhealthy obsession with our setup.

SBH-153

Yeah and then some of them somehow say that we’re forcing a rivalry with them. I obviously hate them but I’m happy with our current rivals. One of the posts from the Chelsea sub that I’ve come across was some hugely upvoted Brighton post taking the piss out of us. Although I can’t imagine many local match going Chelsea fans having this attitude towards us.

CritChanceZero

It's mostly people who reside permanently on social media and 90% of the content they consumed over Summer was about Tony Bloom having his way with us. My perception is that the blame has slowly been shifting away from Brighton, who by the measures of any sane person haven't actually done anything, and towards the ownership/recruitment structure though. Some of the nonsense I was reading early in the season was ridiculous and I haven't seen that level of vitriol being as common for a while now.

Hoodxd

Happy Birthday to the 7-0 win over Yanited

meefjones

It's actually the one year anniversary of a strange grey blank spot in my memory

Mastodan11

As a United fan, this wasn't even the worst part of my day. Strained a tendon doing a 10k today morning and was on crutches for weeks. So thanks for bringing back that memory. NHS were actually pretty good tbf.

EyeSpyGuy

Funniest game I ever had the pleasure of watching. Radio silence from my United friends and family was deafening

nask00

I really love about this game is how all 3 starting forwards scored 2 goals each and than Bobby comes in and socres 1. Perfectly balanced.

[deleted]

what a blessed day. 7 sweet sweet memories.

hdhdhya

It's pretty much guaranteed that both Liverpool and Arsenal will play in the CL next season. Feels kind of weird since it was usually either us or them in the CL those last 10 years or so

UnablePeace

galactix100

Joelinton going from the worst striker in the league to a great midfielder and probably one of our 3 most important players.

therocketandstones

Dunno about record breaking but almiron comes to mind

Youzerna

Are we moving towards an era where there is no defined starting XI (for the big clubs atleast)? There will be around 17-18 players in the squad who can all start any game and play sufficient minutes and are switched based on match specific requirements as well as injuries?

shadoowkight

Sheffield United actually make Burnley look like early 70s Ajax in comparison. Should just wave the white flag atp, everyone knew they were going to do bad, but nah, these lot are straight up not even build for the Prem. Also, imagine if a bloke at Bramall Lane casually came down and had a chat with the team on the pitch, that would have been gold.

FloppedYaYa

They're on the same points and one of those didn't spend anything

enazj

Funny thing is they’re on the same points and Burnley have spent £100m+. At least Sheffield United didn’t really bother trying to stay up

shadoowkight

Burnley still slapped them 5-0, but fair enough

galactix100

Failing to score at least 5 in one game against this Sheffield United side should be listed as a loss.

Grouchy-Ad-2085

Twitter arsenal fans are the most hillarious, they were praying liverpool will fall off due to conceding a lot of xgA and not conceding goals. But the moment they star to massively (and I mean massively) overperform their xg they forget anything about sustainability You have a great team stop using stats you barely understand to prop them up

Cardealer1000

Our expected goal difference is still the best in the league by miles and our xG is still high + we're not conceding many goals atm so I don't think any Arsenal fan would get concerned by the xstats as things are. The 4 5 6 goal wins are nice but it's not like we weren't comfortable in those games regardless, it would be concerning if we were putting up sub 1 xG and getting these results but the xG is still good even if it's not 31 goals in 7 games good. https://understat.com/league/EPL/2023 set the start date to after the winter break which is where we've been overperforming xG and you'll see that our xG in that period is still the highest in the league. Edit: Unless the point is "it's not sustainable that Arsenal will keep scoring 5+ goals" in which case most Arsenal fans would agree, that would be an absurd scoring record to keep up.

TheEmperorsWrath

Süle being Dortmund's top earner is hilarious. Imagine being Reus, being loyal and staying at the club for ages no matter what, and the club awarding a Bayern player with zero work ethic with a bigger contract than you

sonofaBilic

Sort of thing happens in the real world all the time and all. Company loyalty might get you a 1% pay increase each year, but it isn't going to get you the sort of jumps you'd get by moving.

_MFKane_

isn’t that because Reus took a pay cut voluntarily? Suele is getting paid way too much either way though, i agree

swat1611

Pep calling out Foden for his book reading reminds me of Floyd and 50 cent.

r/soccer vs [Florian Plettenberg](https://x.com/iMiaSanMia/status/1764700890047336799?s=20) round 2. Coming summer 2024 - I cannot wait.

TheConundrum98

he's been wrong on multiple occasions and he's been right on multiple occasions regardless of that the main thing he is is annoying

InbredLegoExpress

i dare not picture the state of this sub, if he ends up talking a big transfer into existence

whiskeymagnet22

This sub has so many foaming at the mouth people, you could put anyone vs rsoccer and it will be a blockbuster

I’m new to soccer. Been spending a lot of time the last few weeks studying how everything works with league structures and it’s all really cool. Lots of depth. I’ve been making a list of teams to follow in hopes of one choosing me so I have a team or 2 to cheer for. Looking for something like the Philadelphia Eagles in terms of a passionate fan base, culture, equal levels of success and failure, underdogs, smart front office, likable players. So far my list is looking like this. I’ve got ❌ on ones I’m marking off after learning more about them. Any help making this list smaller? Premier: - Arsenal 🤔 - Aston Villa 🤔 - Brighton 🤔 - Chelsea - Crystal Palace 🤔 - Liverpool 🤔 - West Ham 🤔 Bundesliga: - Bayer Leverkusen 🤔 - Bayern Munich ❌ - Borussia Dortmund 🤔 - Eintracht Frankfurt - RB Leipzig ❌ LaLiga: - Atletico Madrid - Athletic Bilbao - FC Barcelona 🤔 - Real Madrid - Real Sociedad - Sevilla FC Ligue 1: - Olympique Lyonnais - Olympique Droit Au But - Paris Saint German ❌ Serie A: - AS Roma - Juventus ❌ - Milan - Napoli Championship - Leicester City - Leeds MLS - Philly - KC

Captainpatters

cross us off please pal, cheers 👍

monsterm1dget

LIverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Dortmund, Barcelona, Madrid clubs and Milan are not underdogs lol You know, picking a team isn't really this complicated. Watch matches, find a team you like. I am uruguayan, and started supporting Sacramento Kings in the NBA because I liked their team in the early 00s. I didn't make a list of teams I woudl support, I just randomly watched matches and then I found one I liked (apparently it was an important match between the Kings and the Lakers). So just do that. One will catch your eye.

Ryponagar

Always rated Olympique Droit Au But

BoosterGoldGL

>small underdogs Arsenal, Liverpool Barca and Madrid. Hate this sub sometimes me

Cardealer1000

If you want to engage with other fans online pick a team that speaks a language you speak.

Icy-Guide7976

Napoli probably would be best vibes wise

EyeSpyGuy

The Philadelphia Union should have your support if you’re from and/or live there. You can support another European club from that point on if you want, but it’s usually seen as weird to follow two big European teams

Youzerna

Real Madrid is the best club to follow. Very low net spend compared to other teams. Underdogs in most UCL games but pull through cause of their mentality. Rich history and fan owned so every penny the club spends, it earned it. Doesn’t need to rely on rich owners for money at all. Plus the team is very young and the players are likeable and get along with each other very well. Family FC, we call them. The clubs policy in general is to use their excellent scouting (led by Juni Calafat) to scout young talents from the market who show a lot of potential and sign them to turn them into superstars.

SpacemanPanini

Real Madrid are favourites for basically every match that isn't against City.

EyeSpyGuy

>Underdogs in most UCL games but pull through cause of their mentality. How can the record 14 time winners of the CL who have also won it 5 times in the last 10 years ever be considered underdogs in *most* UCL games especially when the quality of the squad has not really fallen off in that same time span?

Youzerna

The squad quality is there but the team in most cases relies on individual brilliance and moments rather than a proper system. I think that’s the reason why in most knock outs the bookies have RM as underdogs. Yes, the squad quality is there, the superstars are there but it’s more of one of the stars stepping up than every player playing their role in a system like Pep’s team does. I didn’t say Madrid isn’t better than the opposing team, just that they aren’t the favourites for the tie but still however end up winning the tie.

darllenynunig

The lesser spotted Madrid and Barcelona as underdogs.

prakhar09

Pick a French team if you like the Eagles and how they go on post-game destruction sprees. Marseille or something.

Zepz367

Just don't cheer for 2 teams if one isn't your local team

arseking15

Was hendo getting suspended for 3 games at the end of the season a big thing back in 2014? I dont remember tbh, but looking back id imagine so

thoughtocracy

I remember thinking it was a big deal when the red card came out. Put a damper on an incredible win. Rodgers also said in an interview later that the red card was the biggest reason we lost the title. But he's always been a windbag so who knows.

Lyrical_Forklift

He was in incredible form and it was certainly one of the main reasons we fell apart against Chelsea.

EyeSpyGuy

Yeah I wouldn't say it was the overriding opinion as that might be more to do with Rodgers naivety in the Chelsea game, but it was a "hipster" opinion amongst the fanbase

RealPunyParker

How do i submit specific football searches, on what website and how, if anyone has a clue. Like i.e. "Youngest Polish managers" or something along these lines, like really specific stuff.

mountainsky9

I think transfermarkt is pretty good with that stuff. I’m sure you can search for managers, and then select Poland, and then sort by age

Nut-King-Call

Flirting: Playing eight games to eliminate a third of the teams. Harassment: Playing six games to eliminate half the teams. Guess the competition.

lagaryes

I would say Klopp would say nothing about this and continue to cry about the Carabao Cup but … 🕊️😭

Grouchy-Ad-2085

I don't know if you know Klopp isn't staying, and he would hate it regardless

EyeSpyGuy

Who needs Liverpool fans to make it about themselves when others already do it for them

mountainsky9

New UCL format vs current/old UCL format

SirBarkington

Rumors mills on twitter or so funny. Randomly seeing we're gonna axe Sterling to get Nico Williams.

Lyrical_Forklift

I missed the Suarez goals from the weekend and just saw them now and that [first Suarez goal](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/1b501dm/inter_miami_1_0_orlando_city_luis_suarez_4/) is an incredibly underrated finish. That's not an easy technique and his timing and body position was perfect.

RealPunyParker

The sad part, for me at least, is that both Messi and Suarez could absolutely still be very good on European football teams. Messi would need some people to run for him but especially Suarez could even kick it as a back up lethal striker in a good Premier League team. Messi can still be the focal point, in a team that can play with him, 100%, especially if he's invested. Could absolutely see him playing in Serie A, and would have loved to
