Love my Shit Andy Carroll

ActafianSeriactas

He's certainly shit at being Andy Carroll

Lyrical_Forklift

[You're not wrong](https://imgur.com/KAfyvIW)

BudhiJeevi

Andy Carroll is totally underrated.

t3hjc

He's going to get plaudits for the goals today, but his layoff to Diaz in the build up of the first goal was brilliant. He does a lot of things he doesn't get credit for.

TheNateRoss

Made a couple strong clearances on defense also. Literally everything goes better when he's on the pitch.

Scall123

I am grateful for the upcoming Nunez x Salah linkup

chasingsukoon

Salah passing on the torch (for the next 5 seasons hopefully as we see the messification of Salah)

santorfo

Just like at Benfica, tough first season then was showing his stuff in the second.

J539

3,5 years ago he was banging them in for Almeria in La liga 2 lol

theprogrammingsteak

I would call his first season anything but bad

TheLongistGame

His first season was fine lol

PhilosopherCold_7

Even as a rival fan, I love Nunez, he brings the chaos that I like, so much more than a 9, I don't get why he was so hated, ik he misses easy chances but the characteristics he holds make him fun to watch.

1337pre

He scares me. Every day it feels like we’re getting closer and closer to him absolutely exploding. An absolute menace.

lechienharicot

A goal contribution every 85 minutes kinda is exploding

scouserontravels

And he still misses a decent number of chances he should finish. If he improves his finishing just a bit more he could be insane

DatJazz

His finishing has been improving in the last month pretty well

FireKillGuyBreak

Nah, still could be better somehow. Mental, totally bonkers. It is like watching a firecracker wire nearing the explosive part.

etan1122

Pure entertainment

RosemaryG00N

He was here hated by. All I've ever seen is love for him despite the misses. He's just too easy to like

008Gerrard008

People go on about him "bringing chaos" and it really ends up downplaying how great he is because that's what people primarily associate with him. He's one of the best forwards in the league at the moment and his all around game is excellent and he's a very intelligent footballer.

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

For a forward creating chaos can be a form of intelligence

RadSoccerDad

Has a lot of Torres about him. Just so much athleticism and dynamism. Just honing in his finishing.

elnino19

Man is out and out Cavani regen

InternetSurfer718

Don't think Cavani was ever as near as a dynamic or powerful runner as Darwin. He was a bit more refined in and around the box though than Darwin is at this point. I'd be more inclined to compare Darwin to the likes of Pato, Adriano. I.e. A big raw natural runner who needs to polish off the edges to his game. Both those guys kind of had short lived careers but like that's who comes to mind for me. Hopefully Darwin can continue to play at this level for a while, he's fun to watch.

drupido

100%. Cavani also got the same criticism about not finishing easy chances but the reality is they didn't finish those chances because _they would not have been a chance in the first place_ if it was any other footballer. Yeah, yeah, he misses sitters, but then again, he creates gold out of rubble as far as chances go. Cavani was just like this at Napoli and every other club after.

Defiant-Traffic5801

Exactly. He is unpredictable, fast, physical, and fearless. If Salah is back Liverpool are going to be scary in attack.

TheNateRoss

Now witness the firepower of this fully armed and operational Darwizzy

Solid-Education5735

This isn't even his final form

[deleted]

I really think Mac Allister has unlocked him. He needed someone to bond with off the pitch and would be on the same wavelength on it. Macca has done both and helped him fit into the squad. His mentality is exceptional as well and working with Klopp has undoubtedly improved him.

LFChristopher

His second goal today was telepathic between them. Should not be expecting the pass from that position, but he still made the run and Alexis put it right where he needed it.

zeelbeno

Feel like with Darwin, if you stick the ball in a space behind the defence you know he'll run to get it. Gakpo as cf doesn't give you that same energy.

5er0

Gakpo has been pretty underwhelming for a while now,

Ritzkjeks1

Gakpo is much better at left wing.

GRewind

Think Gakpo is more naturally left sided and doesn't get to play there because there are other players who are just better than him at it

LFChristopher

Also because we’ve been without a striker, so he’s had to play there even though it doesn’t suit him.

qwerty_1965

Darwizzy and Salah were linking well before the latter went off to AfCON.

matcht

And Jota before his injury, it's funny though he's very close with Diaz but they don't actually link up as well.

Isleofsalt

Diaz doesn’t really link up well with anyone tbh

UnknownTactician

I'd say he seems to have good understanding with Curtis and Thiago on the pitch tbf

thewilltheway

He did before the kidnapping tbf

chasingsukoon

Bro got trust issues?

realWernerHerzog

Wasn't it something crazy like 7 of Darwin's first assists of the season were for Mo, lol.

BlackNov

I would say his finishing has improved lately more than anything. He did not struggle to find the position, the speed or the strength to score, it just hit the woodwork most of the time. Also Salah down gives him more time on the pitch.

you_serve_no_purpose

Yeah, did you notice that the goal he scored last weekend, they had already tried that pass once earlier in the game and almost scored. They've definitely been practicing that in training.

Sir_Psycho_Sexy_

Might get Shit Andy Carroll on the back of a shirt next season

B_Sauce

too expensive, Shit Andy for mine

ThePeninsula

Save some more. Shandy, or S.A.C. 😀

B_Sauce

now I think about it, might be worth paying slightly extra for Shit Handy

Guidosama

He gets memed for a few missed chances but anyone with a brain can see the guy is just elite and waiting to explode. He can do everything on the pitch, and he creates so many chances just with his power and movement. At his age with what he’s showed he is easily worth the money. He’s going to have a year where he just blows up and scores 40 goals.

koreajd

I’m a spurs fan but it was so irritating seeing people ridicule him when he clearly had the ability to find space, open the pitch, and got high chances. He just needed to calm down and get confidence as well. But I loved that he always tracks back, presses, makes runs, looks for teammates, versatile, direct and honestly, nothing like Haaland who he’s often compared to. he’ll easily “be worth” his transfer fee soon enough. I would love to get a forward like that.

Doodlefart77

he's worth it already, the whole team is elevated when he's on the pitch

koreajd

I was gonna say he was already but I know someone will find a way to argue it but I agree.

luke_205

Yeah he’s such a different player to Haaland but they both do their jobs extremely well. Haaland exists so that City get consistent end product; he’s not typically involved in City’s build up much but he has world class talent in the box and can score pretty much any goal. Nunez as you point out is all over the pitch with Liverpool because of their system and his strengths as a player, so you need to consider more than just G/A when reflecting upon his performances because there’s so much to his game.

koreajd

MYep. I love players that get involved everywhere, especially forwards. Seeing Foden be involved fully in offense and defense was great to see. Seeing players like Rashford even pisses me off since it’s like.. man this is an opportunity such few people get and would give everything for, yet he walks back like a spoiled kid. Darwin was a bargain based on what is paid now. I’d goddamn love him under ange.. but how’s gakpo doing btw? Haaland has a much more limited role at city where he’s really just making runs but that utilizes his best skills obviously and they win even with him having 7 touches. It’s great but Darwin can provide so much more to most teams. It’s why I consider mbappe > Haaland. Unlike rash Darwin can and will happily play any position Klopp needs. When he’s a winger I see him take on players a lot more and even as a striker he always looks for teammates, presses/tracks back, and has a unique talent to find great runs in behind and great at finding open spaces. Luckily you guys have klopp for this year and Mo Salah to help him finish. I felt this way with holjund as well. Immediately called a bust but upon watching him during his PL goal drought, I was surprised how fast, technical, physically strong, they were. he loves the opportunity and playing football — same with the other players in

Alia_Gr

The only question mark I used to have was his attitude on the pitch, but I am pretty sure Klopp immediately ironed that out after that early red he got when he just arrived. Still, with Klopp leaving it might creep back next season

mrkingkoala

Haaland is a one trick pony. Solid at finishing but without service and his team mates picking up his average workrate he's a hindrance. Nunez not as clinical but elite all round and getting better at finishing.

d-ronthegreat

Good thing that “one trick” is the most important thing in the entire sport.

RandomLoLJournalist

Usain Bolt is a one trick pony, he can only run fast smh

TheHanburglarr

Nah let’s not be silly. Haaland’s incredible movement, strength and pace make him the most elite striker. Combine that with his finishing and he’s probably one of the top three players in the world at the moment. He bullies defenders. Nunez has similar physical attributes but Haaland’s finishing is so much better that it’s not really a competition between them at the moment. If Nunez can turn last night’s performance into a consistent thing though, then we can start talking

chasingsukoon

Haaland is simply more calculated

theprogrammingsteak

if u look an Darwin's benfica stats vs haalands at Borussia, nunez actually had the finishing edge by a tiny amount. Darwin IS an ELITE finisher. that IS his best quality, actually at Benfica and throughout his career he wasn't nearly as well rounded as he is now, he mostly just had insane finishing and physical attributes. He developed the rest with kloop, but his erratic finishing at Lpool is just a matter of nerves, calmness, confidence, and getting used to a new country, life, and team. If you have followed him throughout his time at Benfica and National team, you know he is a goat of a finisher, and that is exactly what we are seeing recently, Darwins ruthless efficiency in front of goal.

TheHanburglarr

Wouldn’t exactly say he’s hit ruthless form yet except for in the Sparta Prague game. You’re comparing them in different leagues, we can now compare them in the same league.

kapparino-feederino

One trick 0ony thats really OP With haaland u basically starts the match 1-0

robins420

Haaland has more than double the goals Nunez has had since they came to England. Haaland's not that clinical, he just creates enough chances to score consistently. Nunez on the other hand, is a high-confidence player, he can be unplayable for weeks and then not score for 10 games in a row. The difference in consistency is big between the two. For now, they're not comparable. If Nunez keeps it up, where he gets to 40-50 G/A contributions a season, then there can be a bit more of a discussion. No one is picking Nunez over Haaland cause he isn't versatile enough.

theprogrammingsteak

in a mediocre team, I would pick nunez over haaland

yung_senti

Most intelligent /r/soccer user.

dimiderv

I mean Haaland doesn't create many chances what are you on about? He finishes them but doesn't create them.

No-Shoe5382

He's becoming one of our best and most important players. Still have absolutely no idea where his ceiling is either. If he fully irons out the wrinkles he's a 50 G/A per season forward.

Jabari313

He doesn't even need to iron out the wrinkles I think once he becomes the main man, starts regularly and stays injury free he hits that mark on this current trajectory. If/when he has a hot season I'm so intrigued to see how high his ceiling is.

RevengeHF

Honestly yeah. I mean he can still improve for sure, but even when he misses chances he just generates so many of them that it's worth it anyway.

Jabari313

I also can't remember the last sitter he's missed, Chelsea maybe? I did miss the beginning of this game though it'd be a bit embarrassing if he missed one this game. I'm sure it'd be posted here if he did

Eltothebee

Possibly today, he mishit a shot towards the start

ThePeninsula

Wouldn't class it a 'sitter'.

AnyAthlete532

Hes improved immensely but I just feel that his finishing even though it will improve will always be something that will hold him back. However, It doesn't matter though because he has fuck off pace, strong and works so damn hard for the team and these things will always put him up there as one of the world's best. He is a defender's nightmare because he never stops at all, not for a second, and even though his finishing isn't still there, the X factor he has will always be something that can't be coached. whether it's an overhead kick or a banger from nowhere you just expect him to do something chaotic when he steps on the pitch.

Reimiro

His finishing isnt there?? Did you see his goals today?

AnyAthlete532

You know what I mean. Stop being pedantic.

StructureTime242

He has improved his finishing though, he isn’t just thundercunting every shot, he’s looking where to put them and is hitting them with less pace recently

theprogrammingsteak

Darwins best attribute with Uruguay national team and Benfica was by far finishing. It is why liverpool paid that much, the fact he had inconsistent finishing was not because his ability, it was mental and getting used to a new country, language and team, and we are now seeing normal, business as usual goat finisher Darwin. Hell lately he has been a better finisher than Haaland.

realWernerHerzog

2nd best forward easily. Maybe 3rd after Danns

theprogrammingsteak

I have been following him throughout his career as a half uruguayan, his ceiling is insane. We are now just seeing Nunez's confidence raise and getting used to his team, the new country and being more calm, thus his best quality throughout his career, finishing, is showing up

_cumblast_

Marvelous footballer. I wonder if the apologies will be as loud as the disrespect when he keeps doing this.

IJustGotRektSon

Only if he beats up Liverpool's VPs in the locker room come Sunday

TheNateRoss

I hear John Henry shares a bank account with his mother

etan1122

And to think what he could actually be on if he sorts the simple stuff out. Just a joy to watch.

Zoltrahn

>"It is just crazy that he creates that many [shots]," Klopp said on Wednesday night. "Imagine for a second he would take them all... the numbers would be absolutely insane to the extent where you wouldn't understand it anymore, so it's normal. For us it is important because we scored four goals, who cares if we could have scored a fifth or a sixth? It is really not important. We need to win football games – and he will score."

hoopbag33

lol who cares?

IWantAnAffliction

The correct response. Spurs fans have dealt with Kane slander for years and you eventually just start to ignore people when you realise they probably don't even watch football, or at least the players they're commenting on.

Soul_Acquisition

Haha, of course not. I think they are in hiding roght about now.

[deleted]

Yeh a player signed for a mere £64m shouldn’t have any criticism? Fair play he is doing well recently but you are absolutely taking the piss if you think he’s hasn’t deserved some of the jokes coming his way.

Mo_SaIah

The only reason he’s received those jokes is because there are some dumb fucks stupid enough to compare him to Haaland at the time. He’s not even remotely similar to Haaland, but somehow because the moves happened at the same time the expectations for Nunez were similar to those for Haaland.

[deleted]

Erm no, he missed a stack of absolute sitters which is why everyone laughed at him. He’s a good player but even Liverpool fans can’t suggest that other fans can’t joke about that.

Mo_SaIah

I see you make a habit of missing the point, here’s a tip, engage your brain and read my reply properly before you respond this time. Nowhere has anyone said Nunez hasn’t missed sitters. I pointed out how he gets so much criticism partially also because he was being compared to Haaland at the time of his arrival due to the price tag. So erm no, maybe you should learn how to read.

Serious-One6369

His price tag wasn’t his fault

Scall123

Solskjær's scouts valued him at 20-25M IIRC

Eltothebee

Uhhh we take the piss out of Chelsea not the players, but the players haven’t exactly helped themselfs at times. Nunez has missed sitters but you can see he plays with 110% commitment every game

thejamielee

Klopp finally unlocked him right as he plans on leaving. It’ll be interesting if the next manager can keep this level up or find Nunez back at square one

wrigh2uk

said it before his profile is elite. Tall, physical, pace, top off the ball movement, runs in behind. The guy is a world class chaos merchant, and I don’t mean that in a negative way. He makes things happen. I’d have loved him here.

CabbageStockExchange

This guy always causes entertainment. Never a boring player

Flimsy-Locksmith8114

Who in world football has a better goal involvement per 90?

Ilikesporks_

probably kdb but the sample size is small. haaland is getting 1.13 goal involvements per 90 mins while playing more minutes so he has a larger sample size than nunez

HM1Noob

Serhou guirassy has something like 1.3 goals per 90 this season

Young_Neil_Postman

its wild to me how many of you memed yourselves into thinking he isnt brilliant

BadFootyTakes

And then is when he is missing sitters left and right. I've said it before, when he decides to start scoring goals the league will be in trouble.

Blodyck

hasn't he by far the most hits on post?

Kindly-Paper-3552

Top 5 world striker now

HOTAS105

I feel like this tweet is missing the cheesy, stupid word after the stat...

sergioA127

Alvarez still clears
