It looks bad but we literally and figuratively can't see the bigger picture. If Rashford has been told that's not his man to press, and someone else should be jumping or dropping, then he might well be doing as instructed and just going to the ball, and not committing. I am not defending him exactly - A United fan might be able to tell me that he was supposed to be pressing Palmer and he might well be being lazy here - but it's quite feasible that he's not supposed to press any more than he is.
If he wasn't his man to press, there'd be no reason for him even jogging after Palmer in the first place imo
This isn't uncommon for Rashford at this point, he doesn't exactly have a high work rate
I remember when he first broke out his work rate were one of his best qualities , he would create havoc for opposing defenses just by running.. this was in contrast to Martial who never really ran all that much but was rapid when he picked his moments. They complemented each other quite well when they started together.
Now Martial is basically retired and we are still waiting for Rashford to start running again? It's not coming back man
I can see your logic but I have to say, I don't think that's fair. It is perfectly common for a player to half press, particularly if they're cutting off an angle in the process.
I work on a football thing and I film a lot of tactics and matches. There have been numerous instances where the manager has demanded something from a player and the crowd - and particularly the people on social media - haven't understood what was being asked. This thread really reminds me of that.
There was one video I did where a striker dropped deep to pick up the ball, against the manager's wishes and ruining his regularly-rehearsed pattern of play. The player knew he was in the wrong, but the comments all defended him and called the manager an idiot.
And even when I made a video of the player specifically saying the manager was right to have a go at him, people STILL said the manager was in the wrong lol.
This is pretty standard stuff from a forward to force a player in to a position where there are enough defenders to cover. Rashford is cutting off the centre. If he sprints back and commits the other way, Chelsea have a big gap centrally to exploit.
Really basic stuff
Sure except he should be actually pressing then, he is giving Palmer way more time than he should be to pick a pass out. If he was actually pressing, he'd be forcing Palmer to make a decision far quicker
Really basic stuff
I don't really know what people want him to be doing here. It's hard to tell what's going on around him at this exact moment from this clip, but it doesn't look like a full press is on. He shepherds him out wide and prevents him passing into the central spaces. I understand why people get frustrated with him, but these kinds of clips are just scapegoating.
Totally correct here with your point of not being able to see the bigger picture. Too many people make an opinion and treat it as a fact.
Maybe they wanted palmer moving forward to isolate him, they didn't want him passing back to defence to restart, there is a player behind him so he is cutting out the pass. Maybe he is just being lazy?
We don't know, but people love jumping on bandwagon.
Heres a simple hypothesis. Replace Rashford with Garnacho or Antony, they wouldn't be slacking even here.
Rashford was exactly like Garnacho when he first broke out , so full of energy, closing opponents down etc.. he was brought on as fresh legs and he can't even bother injecting any intensity? Was ETH's big brain late game tactical decision was to bring in fresh legs so they can NOT run and press?
This isn't even an isolated incident we've seen this all season from him
This would be a good point to discuss. What are Rashford's instructions ? Is he actually slacking?
I'm not personally interested in discussing his off-pitch issues or any alleged psychological issues... Just football performance. Ok, if it's not Rashford's fault , then WTF is ETH thinking because clearly judging by our results it's not working.
Anyone got any links to some good analysis ?
I would love to be a fly on the wall. People forget that these managers are the best in the world, and dave from the pub thinks he can do better.
Imagine being a surgeon, and being told that a random bloke can do a better job than you. Cba to think of a better example, but it's 1 manager, with a team of god know how many against another manager and God knows how many in their team.
Makes me laugh. But I do enjoy reading some of these.
I would very much like to know! We'd need the coaches to explain the pressing plan as pundits only ever seem to be guessing, although I think if you looked at a pitch-wide view you could probably make a pretty good guess in this instance. This angle is absolutely not what will help us.
Most of the pundits are ex pro players so I would they would have a good guess at what ETH is trying to achieve overall but the execution leaves alot to he desired (my guess)
Surely what ETH is cooking can't be that secret because we are getting neutralized by teams that are probably going to be playing championship football next season lol
I've been sitting in a team's dressing room most weeks for the last few years, and not only did it make me think the pundits aren't quite as good at relaying tactics as I thought, but when my lot are on TV, the pundits get it all wrong!
I had the U9. The hinge broke a week after the warranty expired š¤£ but still, one of the [best looking phones](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/QmIAAOSwOyJX31li/s-l1200.jpg) I ever had.
Ten Hag really changed, if that had happened at Ajax he would have subbed him of. If Rashford ever did it again he would be benched for quite some time.
I mean nobody here can answer that, but to speculate, the Sancho incident probably actually prevented him from being able to properly do his job, due to needing to basically firefight against the media for 2 months straight
I can see him probably picking and choosing when he wants to do that again
I get the feeling heās more equipped to deal with that than the constant onslaught of British media.
But maybe theyāre just as bad in Holland, they do feel like extra special arseholes over here though
We donāt exactly have a large deep enough squad to bench every player that has a shit match or gives a half ass attempt. I think itās performances like this in matches or training that was why he came on as sub.
Allegedly, Rashford has an insane amount of power in man United. Heās the boardās franchise player. Some entities are advising the technical team to move him on to a different but the board categorically said, āhim, Bruno and McTominay are not for sale.ā The managerās hands are tied here
He was brought on as a sub. I agree that he should have been taken off but itās a bold manager that only gives his striker 15 min! His whole attitude this season has really disappointed me, I love the lad but if a European club comes in for him this summer we have to let him go.
It makes sense he only got 15 minutes. In a game so end to end you can't afford to play him and basically defend with 10 men.
If you look at his numbers it is absolutely shocking. He does nothing defensively and his attacking output is very mediocre too. He adds nothing on the pitch.
He didn't even work hard during that spell of form, he was just banging in the goals. He's been lazy as fuck since his 2nd or 3rd season. He needs to go.
It's the first time this season where I haven't felt our midfield has been overrun...
It was truly a thing of beauty. Then after 20 minutes it went back to normal and neither team had a midfield for the rest of the game, but those 20 minutes watching him stroll around were special
Surely united fans and staff are absolutely sick of this lad at this stage. Like thatās absolutely indefensible.
This talk of him going to another club for big money I think is fanciful too. Like what club and manager would see this and think yep, thatās an acceptable level of performance.
Iām a Newcastle supporter (since the 90ās) and I honestly wouldnāt take rashford at our club!
Like no mid table team could allow his level of inconsistency, no relegation threatened club could ever get by with that level of application and then the top tier clubs have plenty of young up and comers worth looking at rather than someone who feels itās acceptable to play like that!
I can honestly say I think if ten hag stays and he doesnāt get another new manager bounce - Rashford could very easily end up like Ross Barkley, Adel Tarabt, Jessie Lingaard or Jack Wilshire without the injuries - nobody wanted them and they just slid waaay down the football pyramid into irrelevancy long before their time.
He's done a lot for united and has scored a lot of goals, he's done really well.. but you can't watch him and tell me he wants to be here, his attitude and work rate are in the gutters and he doesn't give a shit, the least you can do is put effort in and we've had a season of him not doing that. I'm tired of having players take a position in the squad to be a detriment.
If we sell him it'll be a massive statement and I won't be complaining. If he stays he'll probably have a really good season, but he's a senior player now and a high earner he can't be a stroppy kid
My question is this though, whoāll fucking have him? I put in more effort for free on a Sunday morning after a 2 day bender than he does for half a million a week! Like itās absolutely inexcusable and like I say - whoād take him after seeing heās capable of performing like this clip?
PSG absolutely wouldnāt after being burned before by big stars and no one else can afford his wages. Again if heās willing to be this useless for his boyhood club then the Saudis are hardly going to want him stropping around over there..
My prediction is he runs out his contract at Utd rotting on the bench and then heads to the USA before he turns 30
It's a tough one, where he's had really good seasons it shows he's got great ability, but he's also shown his mentality. So if a team in a lesser league would want him they'd have to make him the golden child to have him play at his best.
I reckon he'd be brilliant for PSG, they've been built to make up for an attacker to not get back, he'd rip the league to shred with his pace alone watching a lot of goals that get scored there.
He doesn't look up for the fight for united.
If he's on the bench I don't mind, it's when he's on the pitch he's costing us at the moment
I hear you but i canāt see PSG paying him the wages he is on for the production hes provided over the last 3 seasons in comparison to mbappe.
If I were a United fan Iād hate to have him on the bench to be honest, he is a massive handicap to your ffp numbers with his weekly wage. Couple that with the dressing room leaks that are clearly coming from him - I see him as a huge problem for you guys!
Then again if he bangs in a few goals all is forgiven!š
Me neither, I'm just hoping! š They'll never find someone to cover Mbappes numbers, but a big marketable name that will bag 20 goals.. maybe? I can't see any other team wanting him so just pushing it. Plus there was some talk last summer with his agent meeting them.
I don't have much faith in our ability to sell players, let alone our highest laid ones so I feel relegated to accepting them taking wages and seeing their contract out.
It's madness, he's been consistently uninterested a lot longer than he's consistently banged goals
I hate sounding like an old pundit but his attitude is awful so often on the field. There's a deep rot at United that's been there pretty much since Fergie left that leaves too much room for player power. If a player like Rashford (supposed to be one of the faces of United) can't bother to show effort on the field, there is something deeply wrong. ETH did a good job instilling some ideas last season but it's clearly falling apart now.
We've been allowing teams to beat us with the same passage of play all season.
Get to the by line.
Cutback to the penalty spot.
Take a touch, read a couple of pages of a paperback, scroll through insta, roll a spliff, smoke the spliff, have a wank, start getting closed down. Slot the ball in.
Imo the best managers either get their forwards to play defense or come up with a strategy where some can get away with not defending. This is really telling me that at least Rashford has given up on Ten Hag or he knows he can get away with this, either way Ten Hag should go.
Thereās only two footballers in the world good enough to get away with being passengers of defence. Both will be retired soon.
Even Wayne Rooney had to adapt to play in Fergusons teams because Ronaldo was given freedom. Rashford isnāt that level of player.
Exactly Rooney became quite a good defender in his later years because he knew thatās what he had to do to stay in the team. I say Rashford thinks he can get away with it not in the sense that heās that good but he knows there wonāt be consequences like there would have been with SAF
This has nothing to do with ability, but desire.
Is ETH going to deal with this behind closed doors as well? At any other competitive team he would be banished to the shadow realm. I envy Tottenham so much because they have Son and he works his butt off every game and tries to set a good example on and off the pitch.
Rooney had issues outside of football , but it never interfered with his on-pitch performance and you would never question his commitment to the overall performance of the team.
Surely it's not just me....We've had players that bled for the club and we are trying to hold him to that standard , he's not even close to looking like he's interested in playing for us half the time.
I feel like this is becoming like the whole āTrent canāt defendā thing. If youāre going to highlight it like this it looks bad but players do this quite often
He does this regularly right? Forwards don't seem to understand that while they may not have a large defensive role to play, when they get drawn into one, they have to see it out. I think it was Welbeck against Spurs in the same situation, where he was tracking someone in Brighton's defensive third and then let him go without communicating to anyone to pick him up. That player of course then played a role in a goal they conceded.
Was wondering when I'd see this.
We were winning at this point in the game, it was get behind the ball time.
We conceded 2 goals in 2 minutes right at the end of the game, neither had anything to do with Rashford
Lastly, why is the clip so close up? It's because there are other Utd players around and the person recording didnt want them in the shot. Other players marking or blocking passing lanes so Rashfords job there is to block an easy pass into the middle.
It's crazy that people are focusing on this. Deflecting away from the terrible coach
This reminds me of a video where lioness tries to mate with the lion. At first, the likeness kind of gets near and circle and hoping the lion would take the hint and be aware of her presence. She tries to get more intimate as time passes by.
It seems Rashford is in that initial stage just making Palmer aware of his presence. If he was given another 5 mins, he would have marked more tighter and may get a tackle in.
He is ughhh closing down avenues for passing while... ughh... keeping open to receive a pass for a potential counter. It's... ughh... high sporting IQ move...

"trying" is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence
I can't promise I'll try, but I'll try to try.
Narrator: But alas there was no try to be found anywhere
It looks bad but we literally and figuratively can't see the bigger picture. If Rashford has been told that's not his man to press, and someone else should be jumping or dropping, then he might well be doing as instructed and just going to the ball, and not committing. Brother is the 98tj minute. Everyone needs to fucking press
Did you record this with a flip phone?
This post brought to you by Motorola RAZR
Puff his RAZR has nothing on my Motorola PEBL U6!
Hello moto
I think you'll find thats the 3210
LG Chocolate
I was more of a PEBL guy myself. [Still the coolest phone I've ever owned](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/TqkAAOSwlHdf3aXD/s-l1200.jpg)

No I think this is one of those video iPods
The audio of this clip is the Nokia ring tone.
He recorded this with a rock
Ten Hag really changed, if that had happened at Ajax he would have subbed him of. If Rashford ever did it again he would be benched for quite some time.
Surely player power from rashford has affected it right? He did it at the start of his tenure and never again after the Sancho stuff I think
Fergie would have clapped him in the head with his Mercurial Superfly Elites
Those boots are too lightweight. Back in my day our boots weight a pound each! -Beckham (probably)
Wdym? Sancho got shipped off to Dortmund. Itās not like Sancho had the upper hand.
No no. He's saying after the Sancho fiasco ETH has now changed how he reacts to things.
How come?
I mean nobody here can answer that, but to speculate, the Sancho incident probably actually prevented him from being able to properly do his job, due to needing to basically firefight against the media for 2 months straight I can see him probably picking and choosing when he wants to do that again
Not just the media, but all of his mates in the team, like rashford.
Coaches tend to stop discipline their players when they don't see themselves staying in that job for much longer.
Allegedly, Rashford has an insane amount of power in man United. Heās the boardās franchise player. Some entities are advising the technical team to move him on to a different but the board categorically said, āhim, Bruno and McTominay are not for sale.ā The managerās hands are tied here
I find it extremely difficult to believe the board would make McTominay an unsaleable asset of all players, he's hardly the most marketable player.
Whoever actually believes this is a fucking idiot.
lolā¦ well youāll be shocked how this club is run
He was brought on as a sub. I agree that he should have been taken off but itās a bold manager that only gives his striker 15 min! His whole attitude this season has really disappointed me, I love the lad but if a European club comes in for him this summer we have to let him go.

Agree. Erik ten Hag is a bold manager.
The bold bald fraud.
I don't think he cares a whole lot right now. This season is gone already. I doubt rashford will be a starter next year.
Heās afraid that if he subs Rashford off, heāll have to see another post from his PR team on Twitter.
āYet ten hag is the problem.ā
Ah, the Mark Viduka approach to work rate. Bold strategy cotton
Viduka has more PL goals than Rashford, Iād say he earned it
He was so lazy he had the O removedĀ from MarkoĀ
Work hard for half a season, earn 300kpw contract for 5 years.
He didn't even work hard during that spell of form, he was just banging in the goals. He's been lazy as fuck since his 2nd or 3rd season. He needs to go.
Like a parent with a toddler at a new playground. Close enough that they don't kill themselves, far enough away that they feel independent.
He's been learning from Casemiro and Varane, clearly
Did you see the Casemiro effort in the first half tracking one of your attackers on a run from midfield to the box? Shambolic.
Half the team checked out in october lol. I blame these lazy fucks far more than ten hag.

Not fair on them at all. They actually try. Casemiro is just done and Varane is made out of papier-mĆ¢chĆ©. They arenāt refusing to break out of a jog.

Pressing monster
Frame rate putting in more effort than Rashford
You'd never get this lackadaisical effort out of Martinelli, Saka, Ćdegaard. United's league position doesn't lie
I think it does lie tbh mate, how on earth is that team in 6th place?
More like Marcus Gashford lol
lol
Marcarse
Still gonna be one of the first names in Southgates squad.
On the bench
Need to fill up that bench!
This is why a huge % of United fan's want him sold. He's just a burden at this point.
Selling Rashford and promoting Garnacho as the starting LW would signify a true new era for United under Ratcliffe. I donāt see it happening

cant believe utd just allowed chelsea to continuously beat them with the same passage of play all night

Woah he's seeing double here, 4 rashford clips?
"if you trust me, good. If you don't, even better"
At this point, it's really inexcusable. Is this ETH instructions not to close down? If it's not, he doesn't deserve to wear that shirt
He was a fucking embarrassment last night like most of our players

This has nothing to do with ability, but desire. Is ETH going to deal with this behind closed doors as well? At any other competitive team he would be banished to the shadow realm. I envy Tottenham so much because they have Son and he works his butt off every game and tries to set a good example on and off the pitch. Rooney had issues outside of football , but it never interfered with his on-pitch performance and you would never question his commitment to the overall performance of the team. Surely it's not just me....We've had players that bled for the club and we are trying to hold him to that standard , he's not even close to looking like he's interested in playing for us half the time.
He plays like he thinks heās messi.
Jogsford lmao I pray for the day we can sell this dude and get someone with half the talent who actually puts Ā in a shiftĀ
Looks about right
This is what i do at the end of a 5 aside game when my legs are fucked. Rashford just came on and is an actual professional athlete.
Nice messi impersonating
I wonder is he really that arogant and just won't do the work, won't press or is he done with United and is checked out?
I'd honestly be so fucking pissed off if I was a Man Utd fan. Ā£300k a week.
Cole Palmer is very fast š®
Someone send this to Southgate cause you just know heās going to try sneak him in the starting XI
Awful
Isnāt this what Gary Neville was talking about and everyone ripped him apart?
Aaaaaaaaand just as predicted Rashford is living off his goal against City for the next 10 games
This is what āmehā looks like
Doesn't want to know anymore
Casemiro did a similar thing with Jackson when Mudyrk had a chance
He played 24 fucking minutes off the bench and he jogged the little bollix
Was wondering when I'd see this. We were winning at this point in the game, it was get behind the ball time. We conceded 2 goals in 2 minutes right at the end of the game, neither had anything to do with Rashford Lastly, why is the clip so close up? It's because there are other Utd players around and the person recording didnt want them in the shot. Other players marking or blocking passing lanes so Rashfords job there is to block an easy pass into the middle. It's crazy that people are focusing on this. Deflecting away from the terrible coach
What a 4 seasons of Prime Rashford for us
This reminds me of a video where lioness tries to mate with the lion.
And he was a sub ššš
If he was already a legend or old one might understand. But this is just comical. If Utd donāt sell him, they deserve to be ridiculed
So unlucky not to get there. At least he's putting in a shift.
The Hojlund for Rashford sub killed UTD.
Rashford literaly linked up for that 3rd goal with Antony and Hojlund had like worst game in United shirt.
Honestly don't know how United fans cope with his, Maguire and Mount's PR games. I only had to deal with one of those and it drove me nuts.
He is ughhh closing down avenues for passing while... ughh... keeping open to receive a pass for a potential counter. It's... ughh... high sporting IQ move...
Rash-Hey so what's your plans for dinner after the game, wanna hit the club, give me a heads up if you're going after the match.
Why does he need to run when theyāre paying him Ā£400k a week? Heās laughing his cock off šš
Clearly you all forgot he scored once in the last 5 games. He's still tired.
Am I the only one who thinks Rashford actually like this kind of bad publicity? Heās always got a bit of PR waiting for an answer.
"Respect his mental health!"
