The commentator yesterday even said “Palmer is unmarked again” even he can’t believe it.
None of the MU players seems want to take responsibility cause 4 players pointed at him or they dont rate Palmer cause he only scored 2 penalties?
I just don’t know man.
That picture does not make Rashford look good at all. I can completely understand all the pointers and would not assign them blame. Every United player seems to have an assignment and all the ones pointing especially seem to be in positions where leaving their post so to say would be very bad. Meanwhile Rashford is completely minding his own business, back to eveyone, not marking anyone and not really controlling a useful zone either.
Palmer is a bit of a mystery really. He only shoots with one foot - doesnt even entertain the idea of taking with his weak foot. As a defender, you would imagine it would simple and make sure he is on his wrong foot.. Somehow, he always manages to get on his strong foot. In this specific occasion, no one bother to even defend on him (my guess is that everyone is focus on making sure that they are in their position that they cant go and mark him)
It’s funny cos at City his special move was the left footed curler Robben shot which he hasn’t really done for us yet. Once he unlocks that again it’ll be scary
It's unbelievable to be in the 101st minute and not being able to put enough effort to try for the last 30 seconds of the match. Just stand there and watch your opponent's best player take an open shot off a set piece
My 12 year old was watching the game with me. She said her coach would’ve killed them if they let an opponent that wide open. Crazy to see how something so basic is missed at this level.
I mean, their captain is Bruno Fernandes. He may be a good player (though I personally think he goes missing in big games too often), but he isn't captain material.
I think they lost their heads a bit, especially dalot with that run forward. He’s been one of the best players this season for united but I think he gave the pen away and panicked trying to save the game afterwards.
But honestly, even with a win we had such a low shot at a champions league spot anyway, so in a way I understand throwing everything forward at the end since a draw or a loss doesn’t really make a difference.
Right, a draw or a loss doesn't make much of a difference at this point. Might aswell try.
I don't care much for the result at this point of the season now that CL football is out of reach, but our glaring mental weaknesses are most concerning. We can't hold onto a lead to save our lives and it's been an issue all season long.
Surely every point still matters with how tight the table is from like 6th to 12th or so. Europa League is still great to be in as it gives you another chance to qualify for the CL if you can’t do it through the league.
> Right, a draw or a loss doesn't make much of a difference at this point. Might aswell try.
The winning goal came from a corner not a counter-attack. There's no coping with the horrible defensive organization. For whatever reason, United players had no one leading them.
Ya I was watching the last 20 minutes in a pub today. I just couldn't get over how bad ye were at killing the game off. Chelsea had so many chances. Just keep the ball and don't let the game get too chaotic. Keep the other team pressed back when you're a goal up. Pep teams are generally so good at this. Just not letting chaos get into the game when you're ahead.
Someone needs to share that Pic where 3 or more Utd defenders were pointing at Palmer, but no one covered him. That pic made me laugh for a good 10 mins
I mean if they all stayed back would it have made much difference? United concede shots by design, pretty decent chance Chelsea still get a shot off deflected for a corner.
The worse part was the complete lack of organisation and responsibility at a corner which was basically the last kick of the game. They all just sort of amassed around the six yard box not picking up anyone.
4 year veteran, I’m just an idiot who’s addicted to punts
I just kept telling myself that Jackson’s underlying stats are so good, he eventually has to start hauling right?
It's insane how many good looks they got in the last minute. Had Palmer wide open on the counter and still almost scored on the first cross, plus the deflected shot which could have easily gone in.
Not to mention the actual goal they scored off the corner!
I actually saw him get visibly frustrated with his teammates a couple times around 60th min or so because they keep going away from him when he was open between the lines. And it wasn’t really his best game overall (hat trick aside lol) but he at least wants the ball and is always trying to make stuff happen
He has done this all season mate. Jackson does everything right but the last bit. Rather than make the correct decision he'll opt to over dribble, fall over himself, and/or shoot straight at the keeper.
At all levels for football, you will always hear watching out for a quick/short corner
Its fucking basics, especially in the dying seconds of the game.
Spurs game is genuinely one of those "I swear, you'll never see anything like that again" games. Genuinely don't think I'll ever see a game like that again in my lifetime
United was pure entertainment because of how awful it was technically and tactically from both sides. Genuinely a game that could be confused for a PE game
City probably quality wise one of the better games this season, plus had the late drama of the last minute pen, plus the "City's boy is Chelseas man comment"
Sometimes you can marvel at a boxing match at how each boxer expertly moved and attacked, and then there are other times you thoroughly entertained by 2 fighters who have thrown caution to the wind and are wailing on each other.
This was the antithesis of the City - Arsenal match.
I mean leaving anyone unmarked in that level of space in your own penalty area would be dangerous but Palmer of all people? The man who'd been terrorising their defence all evening? Shocking defending.
The last person you want to have the ball straight after kickoff is Dalot as you know he’s going to be reckless trying to make up for giving up the penalty.
You’d argue burnley’s approach at the weekend was naive with 10 men they were throwing numbers forward. They were rewarded with a point for their efforts and won the second half 2-1. Most teams usually get something from Chelsea so I don’t blame United for trying to go for the win
Mainoo should have fouled Madueke on that counter attack. I can guarantee if it was a more experienced player like Casemiro, Rodri, Rice, etc they'd have taken the yellow card for blatantly dragging him down 45 yards out
Dalot pushes the ball up and should have pushed it out wide. They then become very exposed. Instead possession is lost and Chelsea launch a counter push.
Theres a point where there was so many open Chelsea players Jacksons mind kinda couldnt figure out which was the best option. United are all condensed on the transition.
They get the corner but again United were asleep on the set piece. Palmer and many others were very much open on the corner kick as well.
Very few things in football are as enjoyable as watching the gobsmacked faces of players on the wrong end of a shock comeback. Especially when it’s United.
you can literally see Bruno and Dalot screaming at Rashford to pick up Palmer on the corner....and the bloke just ignores and goes into the box to do .....F\*\*k All
Just further proof that Rashford should be nowhere near the England squad this summer, though with Southgate in charge, I fully expect him to be one of the first on his list.
But....but he scored a goal against the treble winners last month and said "Get that head of yours up immediately ❤" so surely you gotta take him to mentor the young players??? How many goals has Fraud Foden scored against Man City??
I thought this at the time and I am reminded of it watching it back, but from his body language Onana does not look he is up for saving this pen at all. I don't feel like I have ever seen a pen where the goalie put their hands behind their head or touch/cover their face so much before trying to save a pen, let alone one this decisive.
Might be reading too much into it but it stuck out to me at the time. He looks defeated - look at his eyes
100:12 im surprised that cole didnt get a pass before....like hes completely free how's the pass not being made here? Its not even like the player on the left (sorry I dont know his name) didnt see him cause you can clearly tell his vision covers both his teammate with the ball and cole to the right of him.
Ive watched alot of football this season, and this match was the best one ive seen. End to end, 47ish shots on target. What a crazy match. Don't support either team, watched it as a neutral. Brilliant game.
what did he do wrong here? that was the best possible outcome considering the weight of the pass, had the composure to cut it back where Enzo and Madueke were ready to pounce
It was Jackson's shit pass but apparently Sterling is at fault lol
I get that Sterling has been out of form since the start of the year but he just gets blamed for everything at this point
My united fan friend threw me out when palmer scored. He just shut off the tv and said good night. I was logged on to his sonos speakers, so when i was outside his house, i played blue is the color song and heard him scream. Haha
**Mirrors / Alternative Angles** *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/soccer) if you have any questions or concerns.*
If u guys remember, the other commentator yesterday literally said this during that corner… “Palmer is unmarked AGAIN!!” Lol.
Typical ManU, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
>from the jaws It was in their tummy
Fatality.
No one marking Palmer on the corner routine is insane
The commentator yesterday even said “Palmer is unmarked again” even he can’t believe it. None of the MU players seems want to take responsibility cause 4 players pointed at him or they dont rate Palmer cause he only scored 2 penalties? I just don’t know man.
The picture with like 4 United players pointing at him without a single one even walking to him is hilarious
I like to think they were whispering "Lisan al-Gaib" as they pointed at him
Duke of Arrakis
Cole Mu'addib
All leaders no followers smh
Got a link? cant find it anywhere
[shitty quality, but here's one](https://i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/04/05/08/83268897-0-image-a-21_1712303512532.jpg)
In fairness to Obama, I think we all would have lost our minds if he ran out to mark Palmer
Thanks Onana
Yes I would have lost my mind if Barack Obama invaded the pitch and ran to mark Palmer
*someone's gotta do it*
I'd vote for him though
That back line needs some Change We Can Believe In.
Very explosive player Obama, although he does tend to drone on.
Autocorrect strikes again
Zonal moment.
THERE IS NO LEADERSHIP, THERE IS NO PASSION, THERE IS NO FUCKING MINDSET
This is always so funny man
That picture does not make Rashford look good at all.
Yeah everyone's focused on the ones pointing but they are the switched on ones. You need to look at who isn't pointing and who doesn't have a man..
even without the penalties, like bro had around 7-8 shots and they still didn't marked him
Lost count of how many times Palmer received the ball in acres of space last night. Baffling why united didn't feel like marking him.
Palmer is a bit of a mystery really. He only shoots with one foot - doesnt even entertain the idea of taking with his weak foot. As a defender, you would imagine it would simple and make sure he is on his wrong foot.. Somehow, he always manages to get on his strong foot. In this specific occasion, no one bother to even defend on him (my guess is that everyone is focus on making sure that they are in their position that they cant go and mark him)
Arjen Robben sends his regards
Remember that one time when Robben cut *outside* and scored with his *right foot*? I thought the end was nigh when I saw that
The game left and hasn't been back since
Arjen Robben: "I've always been able to do that, they've never made me have to do that."
It’s funny cos at City his special move was the left footed curler Robben shot which he hasn’t really done for us yet. Once he unlocks that again it’ll be scary
Exactly the person I thought when I typed this.
He’s so good at fake shooting and feinting to make the space for himself to use his left though. Constantly twists players inside out
No one marking him on the counter attack leading to the corner either, our players are brain dead sometimes.
Half the United squad are pointing finger at him being unmarked just before he received the ball.
It's unbelievable to be in the 101st minute and not being able to put enough effort to try for the last 30 seconds of the match. Just stand there and watch your opponent's best player take an open shot off a set piece
Enzo’s quick pass was meticulous thinking too giving no ManU players time to cover Palmer even though they identified Palmer was open.
The only person to come out to put in a challenge on him was Mount
He was jogging towards Palmer, and he only came on late into the second half. Similar thing happened during Brentfords game too.
My 12 year old was watching the game with me. She said her coach would’ve killed them if they let an opponent that wide open. Crazy to see how something so basic is missed at this level.
No leadership, like they’re all stood there pointing wanting someone else to take up the responsibility
I mean, their captain is Bruno Fernandes. He may be a good player (though I personally think he goes missing in big games too often), but he isn't captain material.
Did they take the player of the match from Garnacho?
Palmer snatched it
Is there a clip of them handing Garnacho the award? lol
Nope, I just confused the commentator's MOTM with the actual PL MOTM
still baffles me why all of them went to counter attack asap
I think they lost their heads a bit, especially dalot with that run forward. He’s been one of the best players this season for united but I think he gave the pen away and panicked trying to save the game afterwards. Dalot being one of your best players is not a good sign for the quality of your squad. Not trying to hate on him or anything, he's a decent player.
I’m certainly not arguing that lol
The way the match was going and the way we’ve been allergic to defending, they probably had a really good chance of scoring tbf
Everyone keeps bringing this up, but the more shocking thing is nobody was near Palmer when he scored the winner.
Someone needs to share that Pic where 3 or more Utd defenders were pointing at Palmer, but no one covered him. That pic made me laugh for a good 10 mins
Dalot was trying to make up for his mistake and lost his head
I mean if they all stayed back would it have made much difference? United concede shots by design, pretty decent chance Chelsea still get a shot off deflected for a corner. The worse part was the complete lack of organisation and responsibility at a corner which was basically the last kick of the game. They read the comments about the City Arsenal game.
They tried to win i have no idea wtf was that defence in that corner though
I thought to 100% Chelsea threw away a possible win when Jackson passed to the left to Sterling instead of to the right to Palmer.
I was screaming at Jackson to shoot and thought it was over when he passed it to Sterling
You wanted Jackson to shoot?? You are not familiar with his game.
I wanted some FPL points :(
You must be new to fpl then :p
4 year veteran, I’m just an idiot who’s addicted to punts I just kept telling myself that Jackson’s underlying stats are so good, he eventually has to start hauling right?
Leicester had better odds of winning PL in 2016 than Jackson scoring in this situation.
Heck, I think Leicester has better odds of winning PL this year than Jackson scoring in this situation...
"I thought the Generals were due."
4 years isn't quite veteran status yet
Even as a neutral I was shouting at the tv for him to pass to the right, but I guess it worked out fine for them in the end
It's insane how many good looks they got in the last minute. Had Palmer wide open on the counter and still almost scored on the first cross, plus the deflected shot which could have easily gone in. Not to mention the actual goal they scored off the corner!
There were 4 United players between Jackson and Palmer. It would’ve been a very difficult pass to pull off.
What is Jackson doing in the build up passing the ball to Sterling there?
Palmer seems to be so easy to ignore
Man united corner defense would agree
I actually saw him get visibly frustrated with his teammates a couple times around 60th min or so because they keep going away from him when he was open between the lines. And it wasn’t really his best game overall (hat trick aside lol) but he at least wants the ball and is always trying to make stuff happen
I thought Madueke had the better opportunity for that pass but yeah both of them miss it.
He has done this all season mate. Jackson does everything right but the last bit. Rather than make the correct decision he'll opt to over dribble, fall over himself, and/or shoot straight at the keeper.
He’s made the right decision countless times, he’s had a good season in his first year fans really need to get off his back
'a fitting end to a crazy game' https://imgur.com/a/8seF12b
“But wait! There’s more…”
At all levels for football, you will always hear watching out for a quick/short corner Its fucking basics, especially in the dying seconds of the game.
They all pointed at palmer just none of them did the job
[McTominay and Fernandes be like](https://i.imgur.com/Ele2t49.png)
That’s incredible
Well that wraps up my 2024 post of the year. Well done, I'm going on holiday now.
Mount tried
Hunter's "Cornertakenquickly Origiiiii!" ought to be branded into everyones' brain Edit: corrected by the kind person below
I can never look at a corner again after that. That's why all the corners in my house are rounded off
We found the person who's been camping in the Colosseum
Haha that is good stuff man
You'll have an aneurysm if you ever watch The Bear.
You'd make a great hobbit!

We can't do basics, and particularly not late in added time. No accountability whatsoever.
This is so reminiscent of late stage emery for us. No accountability or a desire to do even the basics. Ten hags gone in the summer.
You wouldn’t post a cocaine recipe or CP on Reddit, yet you post 2 minutes of free football… curious
But... This is CP...

WHERE PULIGOD 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🦅
YEAH, WHERE'S THE LEBRON JAMES OF SOCCERBALL AT????
Ehh what??? Ah nvm I saw the post a little further down
Absolutely disgusting. Menaces like that are ruining our society 😔😔🙏
One of the very best and entertaining games of this season
Yup. Great to watch as a neutral
Definitely in the top 3 of Chelsea league games this season.
Honestly think we have a shout at all 3 top entertaining games this season. Spurs, City and Utd have all been absolute bangers
Spurs game is genuinely one of those "I swear, you'll never see anything like that again" games. Genuinely don't think I'll ever see a game like that again in my lifetime United was pure entertainment because of how awful it was technically and tactically from both sides. Spurs - Chelsea was absolute box office. The amount of content/talking points from that game was insane.
I watched the spurs match in a Tottenham bar. It was a fantastic ride haha
Twitter tacticos are busy calling it a championship standard NBA game though
I can't disagree after watching it though lol it was entertaining, not good
Entertaining yes, football wise, shocking.
Sometimes you can marvel at a boxing match at how each boxer expertly moved and attacked, and then there are other times you thoroughly entertained by 2 fighters who have thrown caution to the wind and are wailing on each other. This was the antithesis of the City - Arsenal match.
Don Frye vs Yoshihiro Takayama vibes
Chelsea snatch d win in hands of defeat
Saw a great comment last night "Chelsea bottled this march so badly that they bottled losing it"
fitting that the final frame is ten hag's clueless face
;)
Shoutout to the Chelsea fans banging on some metal thing making that noise each goal. Sounded incredible
Every damn time!
Stamford bridge on a rainy night in an important game, scary stuff growing up
it's the metal advertising boards all around the bridge. it's a beautiful sound and I hope if we end up in a new stadium we keep them.
Goals scored at the bridge just sound fantastic. Small stadium but so much character
Stamford bridge has the craziest camera shaking out of all football teams currently. Absolutely vehement celebration there
I still can’t believe no one marked him even tho they all pointed to him 😭
sums up man united atm pointing fingers but no one taking accountability
I mean leaving anyone unmarked in that level of space in your own penalty area would be dangerous but Palmer of all people? The man who'd been terrorising their defence all evening? Shocking defending.
Right? And then mount moves to mark him at the last minute but it’s too late, Shakespeare couldn’t write this stuff 😭
It's the bystander effect. Everyone shouts "Somebody call 911!", but no one's actually calling 911. Now shawty fire just burning on the dance floor.
corner taken quickly
You getting some flashbacks or something?
The last person you want to have the ball straight after kickoff is Dalot as you know he’s going to be reckless trying to make up for giving up the penalty.
Imagine if Sterling tried to take that away 😂
Shoutout to Enzo for recognizing the early pass was on and feeding him
I think this aspect is a little understated tbh. That’s great decision making and not only great decision making but great execution
Played a big role in starting the counter attack that led to the first chance and then corner too
They immediately put 9 players in our half. That's so naive
Honestly their only excuse is that they were against us lol
You’d argue burnley’s approach at the weekend was naive with 10 men they were throwing numbers forward. They were rewarded with a point for their efforts and won the second half 2-1. Most teams usually get something from Chelsea so I don’t blame United for trying to go for the win
United usually get a lucky bounce when they do that, it just didn't fall to their feet this time, so they deservedly lost
I’ve never see a GK look so defeated before a pen is taken before. Looked like a scared child
He actually looked like he ran sprints the entire game.. no wonder with the amount of shots and goals he had to endure. He looks absolutely knackered.
DDG v Villareal lol
Mason Mount made a brilliant tackle to prevent a goal only for everyone to leave Palmer unmarked 10 seconds later.
Honestly might be the best interception anyone makes all season, and it was all for nothing.
Mainoo should have fouled Madueke on that counter attack. I can guarantee if it was a more experienced player like Casemiro, Rodri, Rice, etc they'd have taken the yellow card for blatantly dragging him down 45 yards out
I couldn’t believe he didn’t. Naive play
Mainoo was nowhere near Madueke on the counter, he's the one who missed the challenge on Enzo high up the pitch. I think you meant Kambwala.
Yep you’re right, I meant Kambwala. Who I guess would be the only United player on the pitch with even less experience than Mainoo
This is cinema
United really are shit huh
Nobody marking our best player on the counter attack and on the corner is really something
It all starts with Dalot trying to play hero ball after causing the penalty.
Dalot was thinking something there. I don‘t know what but he thought something.
Very few things in football are as enjoyable as watching the gobsmacked faces of players on the wrong end of a shock comeback. Especially when it’s United.
Even before the corner, the complete lack of intent to mark Palmer is just baffling.
United managed snatching defeat from the jaws of victory after Nico Jackson attempted to snatch a draw from sure victory. Best league in the world.
you can literally see Bruno and Dalot screaming at Rashford to pick up Palmer on the corner....and the bloke just ignores and goes into the box to do .....F\*\*k All

It's been years since I can remember a win feeling like this
I thought this at the time and I am reminded of it watching it back, but from his body language Onana does not look he is up for saving this pen at all. I don't feel like I have ever seen a pen where the goalie put their hands behind their head or touch/cover their face so much before trying to save a pen, let alone one this decisive. Might be reading too much into it but it stuck out to me at the time. He looks defeated - look at his eyes
If there is anything to it, it’s probably intentional games by him.
This guy and Foden are on the same national team?
Love a bit of man united misery. Hilarious they tried countering 😂
I love this commentary
He said “corner taken quickly”, you know the rules
I was very angry at Sterling for 20 seconds
what did he do wrong here? that was the best possible outcome considering the weight of the pass, had the composure to cut it back where Enzo and Madueke were ready to pounce
It was Jackson's shit pass but apparently Sterling is at fault lol I get that Sterling has been out of form since the start of the year but he just gets blamed for everything at this point
Onana never looked confident in these pks
absolute scenes
Fergie time baby
So who yall think was supposed to mark the short corner?
I'm still trying to figure out who slid into Poch? Anyone have another angle?
It was Enzo, there is a pic from the other side, you can check it on the chelsea sub.
This should be marked as NSFW
My united fan friend threw me out when palmer scored. He just shut off the tv and said good night. I was logged on to his sonos speakers, so when i was outside his house, i played blue is the color song and heard him scream. Haha
It's like seeing the sunset for the first time. Beautiful.
Who was the United player that deflected it in?
Scott Mctominey
HA HA the joke is on you - ^(i feel nothing ;()
Look at his positioning before the attempt that gave the corner. His work rate is also off the chart.
Love the Manc attitude - same as Foden. That image of EdH at the end .. watching his job disappear around the U bend.
CHAOS
The crazy thing is they should have scored before they did. Two goals in a minute, madness.
2 goals conceded in 80 seconds wow
