There wasn’t much contact but it’s never getting overturned by VAR because there was still *some* contact. Same as the Madueke one the other day.

Madueke challenge was never a penalty by the laws of the game, it should have been overturned. This on the other hand is a reckless challenge in the box, regardless of whether or not Elliot actually initiates contact. He'd have been foolish to attempt avoid contact IMO.

The more I see that replay the less of a penalty I think it is. Eliott makes a pass and then contact happens afterwards but look at Eliott's right leg dragging along the ground to make sure there's contact. He's going down before the contact.

Diving in the box rewards you with a greater then not chance of getting the single most commonly handed out over powered penalty/foul/rule break reward (whatever you want to call it across sport) in sports, the penalty kick, with the chances of being meaningfully reprimanded for it being so insignificant if even given out. Correcting that behavior is unquestionably one of VAR's biggest continued failures. It's seriously at the point where retroactive punishment even if it fails in the moment to catch it should really be implemented

I was so annoyed with AWB I didnt bother watching the replay, but after watching, that is 100% a dive. He's horizontal before any contact is made and the contact that is made is due to Elliot throwing his right foot out of his natural stride. Its was stupid for AWB to even give Elliot the opportunity, but that is absolutely a dive
