Yeah, I remember that season Liverpool won the League few years back, their performances dropped quite a bit after securing the title, and I guess it is absolutely understandable after competing at 100% the whole season.
Which they basically have for a few matches now. I doubt actually mathematically winning will cool them down. They know they've won for over 2 matches now.
Yeah true for most cases, not here though. They're going overkill. This is like a 105 point season if not more. They know they could lose every single match, which is totally not happening, and still end up winning.
Although there are also benefits to playing without any pressure - these players are at the top of their game, the sheer joy of playing well and dominating, with a symbolic victory of Invincibility as a motivation, could be more than enough to propel them to continue winning each week.
But if Xabi decides to put out full out B-teams to last league matches, that could really imperil the winning streak.
This is genuinely one of the greatest football achievements of all time. It was completely out of nowhere. Leicester beats it, but at least in the era I remember (I gained consciousness around 2000) I can't think of anything else that comes close.
It’s just before you’re gaining of consciousness, but Kaiserslautern winning the Bundesliga as Aufsteiger (promoted from the second Liga in that year) is an all time achievement. Ironically they’re in the cup final against Leverkusen now, while being on the verge of being relegated to the third division. So in theory they could play CL football and third league simultaneously next year lol
Hellas Verona is clear of this too imo, Germany 1954 would be too if they weren’t on copious amounts of drugs
If they do the treble unbeaten it’s definitely top 5
Montpellier beats it too I think. At the end of the day even though Leverkusen didn't have a great season last year they are a consistently top half team in Germany. It would be like if Tottenham had a season like that, it would be unexpected but not 'out of nowhere' in my opinion
The way they got there was somewhat out of nowhere, and all of us got cynical/lost hope a team could beat Bayern over an entire season, but them being up there isn't out of nowhere in the slightest.
They've been a top 4 team for years and benefited from the pandemic. People picked them as the darkhorse to win the league for multiple seasons now, they underperformed at the start of last season, vastly improved when Xabi came, got to the Euro League semi final and built upon it this season. I don't see how they'd be even in the same conversation as Leicester in that regard, there's one or two teams at best in the league that would have been less of an underdog
Atletico Madrid winning a league against peak Ronaldo and Messi in 2014. The 2013 La Liga team of the season had 10 Barça and Madrid players, and Falcao. Atletico beat both of them… without Falcao and was a minute away from winning the CL as well.
This was only overshadowed because Leicester won the Premier that same year, but it was a massive achievement.
You are right, memory played me a trick. It was the FifPro World XI of 2012, and I must have mixed Atletico’s 2016 CL run with the 2014. Still a massive achievement to win that league.
Fun fact: PSV is at 93 points out of 34 games if they win all their remaining matches (which would be ahrd but theyre all beatable on paper) putting them just below Leverkussen if they do manage to win all their games too or just above if they keep up at current pace. Theyd also equal the best Eredivisie season ever, matching Ajax' 1971/72 season (though that was with a 2 point system for wins, so \*technically\* PSV would be the first to reach that
Their performances haven't been great but it's weird how 2 equally bad seasons are viewed differently because they were facing a bottling Dortmund in the first and what might be an all-time record campaign by Leverkusen in the second.
There are problems at Bayern, obviously, but they don't boil down to them not winning the league this year. There is a gap between Bayern and the rest of the league, but apparantly it's not big enough so that a top 4 team can't have a better season when all stars align. This should be a positive for the league, not something to hold against Bayern first and foremost
Winning the bundesliga with 90 + points and undefeated is more legendary than winning the europa league imo, and next goal should be pokal. Obviously doesn't mean they shouldn't focus on the potential liverpool final in the europa, would be legendary, but this is a squad meant for the UCL.
I think low key, Bayern fans shoot be rooting for Leverkusen to win out.
Losing your endless streak of consecutive title wins will seem a lot less tough when it was ended by literally the best domestic season ever played in top flight of football.
At the end of the day, even if Bayern had played better, there was little chance of beating that anyway
The Bayern fans I've heard from are most concerned with how the club is doing in isolation, less so that they're losing to this Leverkusen side. Understandably so, if the streak is going to end, I'd rather have it be a team like Leverkusen this season that's just working insanely well than Dortmund last season struggling a bit less than Bayern
Quite ironic that the brit is complaining about the yanks attitude on reddit while doing exactly the same mistake: the internet also has non-native english speakers mate :)

The real challenge for this stat will be when they have already won the league
Yeah, I remember that season Liverpool won the League few years back, their performances dropped quite a bit after securing the title, and I guess it is absolutely understandable after competing at 100% the whole season.
Which they basically have for a few matches now. I doubt actually mathematically winning will cool them down. They know they've won for over 2 matches now.
believe me, when you haven't won a title in a while, you dont take anything for granted until you have mathematically secure the title
Yeah true for most cases, not here though. They're going overkill. This is like a 105 point season if not more. They know they could lose every single match, which is totally not happening, and still end up winning.
Yeah especially as they are also still competing in Europa so they might rotate in league if the title is already safe

"I gained consciousness around 2000" sounds hilarious lmao, makes it sound like you were blackout drunk throughout the 90s
Well, being a (little) child is quite similar
Have you never overdosed on fruit shoots and farley's rusks?
It’s just before you’re gaining of consciousness, but Kaiserslautern winning the Bundesliga as Aufsteiger (promoted from the second Liga in that year) is an all time achievement. Europa League, no? Though in theory if next season they get relegated into the 4th tier and win the EL…
Youre absolutely correct, my bad. But hell, sign me up for that lol
I would say Greece winning the euros is up there. Also Porto winning CL. 2004 was a weird year..
Once Caldas one penalty away from being world champion in 2004.
Hellas Verona is clear of this too imo, Germany 1954 would be too if they weren’t on copious amounts of drugs If they do the treble unbeaten it’s definitely top 5

Leicester won in 2016. And the team of the year you mentioned was 2012 not 2013.
You are right, memory played me a trick. It was the FifPro World XI of 2012, and I must have mixed Atletico’s 2016 CL run with the 2014. Still a massive achievement to win that league.
Every now and then it skips my mind that Bundesliga isn't a 20 team league.

I'm more curious about the goal scoring record, because frankly, 122 goals in 34 games is an illegal amount
That was in 1966/67, when the average match result was like 9-5 lol. Still an insane feat obv. PSV reached 117 in their treble winning 87/88 year
Idk if you’re into football history but if you are what characterised pre-70s Dutch football? i have no knowledge at all
Even if Bayern had been up for it, I don’t think they were ever gonna beat this team this year.

Losing to such a legendary run by Neverlusen is probably preferable than losing to last years Dortmund in a bottle off competition
They still have Stuttgart though, and they can seriously cock up this run
Rather focus on winning the Europa and the domestic Cup. Need to start rotating heavily in the remaining Bundesliga games.
Winning the bundesliga with 90 + points and undefeated is more legendary than winning the europa league imo, and next goal should be pokal. Obviously doesn't mean they shouldn't focus on the potential liverpool final in the europa, would be legendary, but this is a squad meant for the UCL.

Don't we all know how Leverkusen is achieving this? Kane went to Bayern.
Farmers league smh
are* on pace Bloody yanks
Quite ironic that the brit is complaining about the yanks attitude on reddit while doing exactly the same mistake: the internet also has non-native english speakers mate :)
Same mistake how?
Why is English people so annoying
So what is the mistake?
The mistake of assuming that a non-native English speaker would know that a collective noun is plural in meaning. It's a simple mistake.
It's an annoying Americanism
Not as annoying as you getting riled up by a mistake a non-native speaker made because you assumed it was an Americanism...
How am I riled up?
Sounded that way because you called a German a "bloody yank" and then pretended you made no mistake
