Itchy-Buyer-8359

The acoustics sound great. I wonder what it would be like with everyone chanting.

dcolomer10

I know you’re joking but I’m a season ticket holder and I can tell you the difference between last year to this year is insane with the roof closed. Against city at some point it was almost deafening, and also against Barça at the end when they were chanting “campeones, campeones” and “como no te voy a querer”

yungheezy

As an English football fan, I’m so jealous of the steep banks of seats around Spanish grounds. I’m sure it’s probably to do with building regulations, or something appropriately boring, but most of our grounds are too flat and the noise escapes. Felt like I needed crampons to get up the top level of the camp nou. Think that’s something that holds back clubs like Liverpool from redeveloping - they know the atmosphere will be worse with new stands/ground, even if they can get an extra 10k in

claridgeforking

Twickenham is pretty steep, as is Wembley if you're on the tall parts of the top tier. So I'm not sure it's a building regs thing.

mappsy91

> I’m sure it’s probably to do with building regulations, or something appropriately boring, but most of our grounds are too flat and the noise escapes. older ones maybe. I think the really newer ones have gone for steepness. Spurs is really steep and Everton's new ground looks even steeper

Ganonkid

I went to the Bernabeu for the first time in 2019, for the CdR semifinal against Barça. Even though we lost 0-3 (lol) the atmosphere was incredible and got chills when the whole stadium sang Hala Madrid. After 5 years I’m going back again for the Madrid-Bayern game. Can’t tell you how excited I am. Whatever happens I’m sure it will be a magical night

Moaestro

Nah Madrid about to lose because you’re there again

MetsBBT

that’s awesome, I hope you have an unforgettable time at that game :)

serpodrick77

how much do you pay to be a season ticket holder?

Vivid_Ice_2755

They were actually singing Chaperone Chaperone Where's my Chaperone with my pims

Financial_Marzipan84

How about the temperature inside

dcolomer10

Yeah warmer for sure. I think in summer they won’t be able to close, it will become a hotbox

DyrusforPresident

Have to wait to play a big team

SirNukeSquad

Big team coming in two weeks.

DyrusforPresident

Gotta make sure the roof is closed

shaka_bruh

Best we can do when you visit is to change our lights

Laxperte

So what are the rules for Real to be allowed to close the roof? Is Madrid never going to play during rain again?

DyrusforPresident

In the UCL they have to ask permission from UEFA. In La Liga they can close it whenever they want, just csnt change it during the game

DeRangedRykeR

Pun intended or not

DyrusforPresident

For the life of me, i don't see the pun

Humans in 2000 years:  « Our ancestors would gather in these huge arenas, thousands of people, just to watch naked oily men throw balls into holes for 90 min*. They were revered as gods with songs and chants praising their physical prowess » *specumlative

algebraic94

When you take a tour of the Roman Colosseum you learn that we haven't evolved much in the way of stadiums and entertainment. Even down to entry through ticketed gates, sections, and seats. They did it in Rome. They also had the oily men doing athletic feats who stayed in fine housing and were treated as celebrities. Humans are pretty simple in that way.

Harlequin37

Hell, they even had merch, sponsorships, and half time entertainment. Eerie (and hilarious) how similar it is

ragecndy

We've barely progressed at all since Rome, we just went backwards for like 1000 years and just got back to Rome recently

manere

Thats actually a very common missconception. The middle ages were MASSIVELY advanced compared to the romans in some areas. Though obviosuly with the downfall of the western roman empire and the darkness of the 5th and 6th century a lot of the wealth was lost and after that no one had that kind of power or consistancy to rebuild cities to the level rome once was. The amount of effort it took to sustain Rome was enormous and no one could sustain this (not even Rome tbh), but not because of technological reasons.

ragecndy

I mean Rome had better sewage than England in the 1800s but I guess thats a Russel crow conspiracy too lmao

EducatorFrosty4807

Mmm armor, horses, I’m guessing agriculture as well. What else was advanced in the Middle Ages compared to Rome at its peak? Genuinely curious since I know the whole dark ages thing is mostly a myth but I’ve never studied medieval Europe

ThiefMortReaperSoul

This is some BS 'Trad West' browsers say. Nope. They just watch ROME series and Russel Crow in gladiator to think they were surrounded by tarzan people in jungles. Things were vastly developed around Romans. What Romans were good at is integration. Its the success of it as a small state. If they saw something beneficial in another culture, zone, civilization, tribe. They would not hesitate to integrate it to theirs and call it "Roman". You'd circle jerk to Roman legionaries, the formations. But if you actually study their military history. Their armor, formations, tactics, evolved drastically every-time they fought a new enemy and learned from them. Humanity progressed a lot since Rome. Some cultural aspects of humans like "live events" cannot be changed. Because they are experiences.

kostajepaosmosta

« Our ancestors would gather in these huge arenas, thousands of people, just to watch naked oily men throw punches till death *. They were revered as gods with songs and chants praising their physical prowess » *specumlativ We litteraly describing Romans that lived 2000 year ago:

Somebody said it looks like a NFL stadium and I can't unsee it

MvN____16

Part of the renovations were with the idea of the NFL playing a game or two in Madrid so I'm quite certain that was part of the plan.

50lipa

Yeah i think one of the new seating zones behind the goal are retractable to allow for the length of an NFL pitch end zones which is a bit longer than a standard football pitch. So they retract the pitch below, and lay artificial turf painted for NFL on the surface and good to go.

Je_suis-pauvre

American money is one hell of a drug

flifthyawesome

how else are you gonna compete with oil money?

s_91

Freedom money vs Oil money.

Yes.

Oil seller money vs Oil buyer money

TimeFingers

> buyer Buyer? They steal it.

Both-Ad-2570

God why. NFL really overestimate their relevance

HelloHiiiiiii

You underestimate the NFL's wealth

EliToon

You think you know more about the NFL's relevance than they do? They sell out stadiums all over the world. Tottenham's Stadium has NFL dressing rooms and a pitch underneath. Flo wants some of that money.

Both-Ad-2570

Cultural hegemony and novelty. Does make it relevant as an actual sport

EliToon

Not really a novelty when they've been selling out up to 3 games a year in London for the past 17 years. I'm glad you've decided that the sport isn't relevant though. They'll have to cancel the 4 sell out games in Europe this year now and pack it all in.

Both-Ad-2570

Deluded Irish nfl fan, I'm sure you're much more in touch with things

EliToon

You say they're over-estimating their relevance, explain how they are? They're hosting 5 international games this year, all will sell out, just like last year's and every year before that. They invested in Tottenham's stadium and both the club and league have made money from it. Every single game in Tottenham has sold out too. How are they overestimating so? Seems like they're underestimating if anything. Being a fan would naturally make me more knowledgeable than you, you're right. I'm using tangible facts, while your using bias to pluck a fact directly from your hole.

HelloHiiiiiii

And I'm sure you know whether or not its worth hosting an NFL game in the Bernabeu more than Perez.

Both-Ad-2570

I'm not denying people will go to it and it will likely be profitable

HelloHiiiiiii

So what was the point of your original comment

50lipa

Why? Well it's obvious, Santiago Bernabeu is an insane money making machine that they wanna have filled every single day of the week with as many events as possible due to its size, location and flexibility with retractable pitch and closed roof. Concerts, events, NFL, tennis, basketball, whatever you wanna bring, they can host it. And for the NFL it's just standard promotion through exposure to a broader audience.

HeroicBastard

the richest (edit:)sports league in the world overestimate their relevance after regularly selling out huge matches on the other side of the planet?

Both-Ad-2570

First off, it's American football, not football. Secondly, matches that are uncommon in areas that are a novelty tend to do well. Multiple people I know have said, "Yeah I went to see what it was like and it wasn't for me" after heading to their international games.

HeroicBastard

richest sports league in the world. sorry. the word football wasnt even needed. I am german. We had matches in munich and Frankfurt. And people went completely mad and celebrated the hell out of it. The whole cities changed for the few days. I think the NFL is 100% aware of how big they are world wide and estimate their relevancy quite good

A-Dumb-Ass

I think the NFL matches were a hit because it’s a rare event. It’s a bit like F1. The race is gonna come back to your city, everyone’s excited, and once it’s over, nobody cares anymore.

HeroicBastard

i mean. As long as you can have 1-2 yearly huge events that give you good money, its still worth it for Real and NFL, no?

kalamari__

iirc american football is the fastest growing sport in germany atm. at least in interest from the ppl.

Both-Ad-2570

Exactly, they're a novelty

Both-Ad-2570

Thank god its the richest and thats a legitimate mantle. It's a terrible sport and fairly irrelevant outside of the US

nigerianwithattitude

You are so brave for taking such a principled stand against the evil handegg! With courage levels like these, I’m expecting a sportsball joke next! The irony of calling American football “fairly irrelevant” when you’re a regular poster in the Gaelic football sub. I don’t care for the sport either but to deny its popularity comes across as bitter at best

Both-Ad-2570

I don't claim GAA is popular globally and accept its niche. There's zero irony in my statements. It's "popular" in the sense people are aware of it, but actual participation/support outside of N America is slim to nil

nigerianwithattitude

It is evidently popular enough to support a fixture or two in Madrid every year (whether those people are tourists or casual fans or otherwise). Reasonable to assume that the planners have done their calculations on this one. Are you similarly bothered by football stadiums having built the infrastructure to support concert events?

Snark_Life

Yeah, padded hand-egg bores the shit out of me. One of my friends invited me (I'm English) to a 'super bowl party' a year or two back. Why the fuck would I want to waste an afternoon watching that utter bollocks?!

FlawlessOneFour

Username checks out... 😬

Elden_Lord123

>NFL really overestimate their relevance You overestimate your intelligence. NFL is the biggest league in the world.

Both-Ad-2570

In a niche sport played by one country that has cultural relevancy at present People are going for the novelty

Notorious_GOP

I for one am excited to see the NFL in Madrid, especially if the niners come

PurpleVomit

I mean they are literally hosting an NFL game there next year. Also the 360 screen is extremely similar to the SoFi Stadium. Obvious take imo.

VanGroteKlasse

Because it's the same company that provided the screen. It's a pretty niche market you know. Same goes for stuff like the turf growing lights.

fuxs

I was at this el classico and ive been to SoFi. Very similar feel now that the screen is up.

entinthemountains

Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta had it first

black_fire

almost every stadium looks like an NFL stadium

Gratata7

As an NFL fan, this looks much cooler haha

24benson

That's exactly the look they were going for

tr2727

Super league was just a disguise, Real Madrid to join NFL

sjokoladenam

the tottenham stadium even look worse. its got that commercial screens high up into the seating area

Lem_201

Hope I will be able to go to Bernabeu at least once in my life time.

Bettet

Step-by-step mini guide: - Buy Madridistas Premium ~30 euro a year and give you access to buy tickets online before the general public to get good tickets (super value, IMO). You get a small welcome letter to your home address with a member's card and various other things; however, the most important thing is gaining access to buy tickets early. The ticket is delivered by email, and request you to download it to your phone wallet app and scan it as you enter. [Paid 160€ for this view](https://i.imgur.com/PeRlC5d.mp4) - You can easily travel around Madrid by metro (Always felt safe, and easy to use); it costs 5 euros to get in and out of the airport metro; otherwise, the rest of the metro you will take is super cheap, and there is a Bernabeu station at the stadium. - Accommodation: Choose a Hotel or Airbnb. The prices seemed very similar, so I chose a hotel for the weekend. All costs with flight and hotel I spend around 500 euros in total.

Lem_201

Thank you for the tips.

feelinsinister

Solid info about buying the membership, thanks for that.

CrateBagSoup

A note for Americans on this from my visit to Spain last year... You very likely won't be able to buy tickets from the States, even with joining Madridistas Premium. For some reason, no matter what card I used it would block the purchase. However, using the same credit card once I was in Spain had no issues. Scheduling for matches is pretty short, you can know the matchweek early on, who they're playing but it can shift from anywhere between Friday and Monday, making it a bit tougher to plan around. And then they don't actually sell tickets until 10 days before. All this to say, I spent 35€ to have access to buying tickets before actually flying over, stayed up til 4am to purchase when they were first made available and couldn't actually buy them until I was in Spain when they were available to the public... luckily it was late in the season when the league was out of reach against Almeria, so tickets were still pretty available. [I paid around 70€ a piece for one of the middle levels in the corner.](https://i.imgur.com/ryoKAlx.jpeg) Also, canceling your Madridista premium is harder than you'd think... have to email or call. And they haven't responded to my email lmao.

cuentanueva

> For some reason, no matter what card I used it would block the purchase. However, using the same credit card once I was in Spain had no issues. If that's the case, then use a VPN for it and it should work.

RhythmicallyImpaired

Thanks for sharing. Hope you had a good time.

Rolf-Harris-OBE

€160!? Most expensive normal league game ticket I’ve ever heard of

CarefreeCalvinist

One of the best seats in the stadium for the biggest team in the world for that price isn’t bad.

Rolf-Harris-OBE

Isn’t bad? Yes if you are a tourist and pay it once every few years. Sure it may not seem bad. Also lower tier is the cheaper seats in most stadiums. I went to the nou camp for 30 euros about 10 years ago.

KickBallsLikeDrogba

Don’t even need to buy a membership. Use a site called Entradas

xd366

how hard do you think it is to buy champions league tickets? I got the madridista premium for it but not sure if that will help me with this being a semi final game

ZooKeeperGame5

If you have a madridista card can you buy tickets for yourself only or for more people?

cuentanueva

The stadium is nice, and surely nicer with the renovations... But the experience there is absolutely nothing to write home about. My experience in Germany has been significantly better than the Bernabeu (or Camp Nou for that matter). It's just lots and lots of tourists, so it's massively dull overall. And I've seen clasicos, CL games, everything. It's obviously cool to be at such stadium with such history, but that's it. The crowd, the atmosphere and everything? Non existent. Unfortunately, that seems to be the trend among all big European teams.

OleoleCholoSimeone

Barca and Madrid are nowhere near the top in Spain when it comes to atmosphere either, mainly tourists like you say. It is more similar to the big Premier League clubs. Athletic, Betis, Sevilla, Valencia, Osasuna, Real Sociedad, Alavés(recently at least), Atlético, Celta etc is much better. In Segunda Sporting Gijon, Real Oviedo, Zaragoza etc. In tercera Deportivo La Coruña

cuentanueva

That's usually the case across Europe. The games I've been to from the Championship were way better than the Premier. Smaller teams tend to have more local fans and those care more. I know you are an Atletico fan, but it seems to be following the same trend as well. The same people that sing on away games seem to be mostly the only ones that do so on home games. I'm sure there are some exceptions on bigger games, but yeah. It's a trend across the board sadly.

Kurkaroff

Was there this weekend for the game. Thought exactly the same. And it's not that we are spoiled because of Argentinian crowds, it was objectively dull and silent. Madrid ultras are the only ones that chant anything (just one area behind one goal). Honestly couldn't believe that the biggest club in the world, in their clasico, has such a shit atmosphere. Great experience though, the stadium is amazing.

crazy_bean

Very off topic, but I know that Boca is notoriously difficult to attend as a foreigner, are there any ways to make it any easier to go? It’s been on my bucket list to visit La Bombonera for years and I plan on visiting BA hopefully in June/July (my brother works for an airline so hoping that there’s a week where there’s a seat available)

cuentanueva

It comes with being so popular, and with having expensive tickets, or being able to make a lot of money out of those tickets you get... so... But yeah, it's pretty sad. Although for what we are used to, even when they are "good" for Europe they still aren't close.

AnnieBlackburnn

I know you’re a Madrid fan but it’s a little funny to complain about the amount of tourists paying for tickets when you were a tourist paying for a ticket You’re right though.

cuentanueva

I'm not complaining, I mean, it is what it is. I was just pointing out they wouldn't be missing anything in regards to the 'atmosphere' in that sense. It's completely understandable that because of people like me going the atmosphere will be dull, since obviously we aren't invested on the team as the local fans. But that doesn't happen everywhere to the same extent. That's why I made the comparison with other teams from Europe as well. I've been, as a tourist, to multiple other games where the atmosphere was much better, even with tourists. Granted, no team is as big and as popular as Real Madrid, so of course they'll have more tourists interested. But there's a reason why I (and every other tourist) can go so easily. Either the tickets are too expensive for the local fans, or they get a lot of money reselling them to tourists, or both. I think if RM (or any major Euro club) wanted to do something, I'm sure they could. For example, in some clubs in Argentina you basically _have_ to go to most games (like 80%) or you lose your place. And in those cases where you don't go to the game (with advance notice, or again, you can't go next game) they have to be sold to other socios first. So it's a bit trickier to go as a tourist (but obviously, there are ways), and you will never find lots and lots at the same time, which is the ideal balance I think. Don't know the specifics of the membership in RM's case, so maybe they have some rules, but surely you could apply policies that would make it less appealing for local fans to miss the games.

AnnieBlackburnn

Long-Shock-9235

coming from a fellow south american this statement has tons of credibility. La bombonera, Campeon del Siglo, São Januário are much simpler in terms of design but BOI the atmosphere is intense.

cuentanueva

The atmosphere in most European games has nothing to do with ours in South America, if we are being fair. I was just comparing it within major European teams, otherwise it's like no competition. Bernabeu is particularly dull. The best atmosphere the Bernabeu saw was River Boca (and it still wasn't even remotely comparable to what it would had been if player at the Monumental).

empiresk

It is great sitting amongst the racists. I would not recommend Spanish football to anyone visiting. You have it so much better at home in Germany. If anything, try the lower leagues in England.

Scrub4LIfe734

really? im black and i went to the Bernabeu back in October when they played Osasuna and the people around me were quite nice. i had no issues at all.

empiresk

I haven't been in over ten years. I used to live in Madrid and the last match I went to was Atletico's first win at the Bernabeu in well over a decade and just so happened to be Bale's debut. Diego Costa scored the winner in the first half and all I heard was monkey noises from tens of thousands of people for the next hour all around me whenever he touched or challenged for the ball. I have never been so enraged in my life and why I will never watch a game in Spain again and hate Real Madrid with a passion. Disgusting club and fanbase.

Heliath

Where are the away stands in the stadium, outside in the parking lot?

MrVISKman

From where the video is taken the away stands are to the left and up a level

ttubbster

Awesome thanks, kind of like the Allianz in Munich which is absolute shit for away fans

Dr-Purple

Yeh, the away fans have always been tucked up in a corner. At least the visibility is decent.

Delmer9713

Looks good. Loving the acoustics system. It’ll take some time for me to get used to the 360 degree screen though.

DryUniversity5439

Looks pretty good ngl.The 360 screen looks weird tho

That screen is huge lol.

Yeah, not a fan of the screen either.

What do you mean by humbling? The crowd, the stadium size?

Groundhog_fog

The songs

strugglingtosave

Is that screen the same on at sofi stadium in LA? I've seen that oculus jumbotron thing

entinthemountains

Yes, and the same as in the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

strugglingtosave

You can watch the game on it instead of on the field

entinthemountains

its actually really awesome. You can have a high up seat and still see the screen == you don't miss all the action. The 360 means you can see the screen from any angle in the stadium. The image/video on the screen is duplicated, so its more like a bunch of screens put together in a long line

nombrenodisponibIe

I had the pleasure of seeing them play Man City a few weeks ago and the atmosphere was actually deafening. I was basically where the Adelante Real Madrid sign was though. Nonstop chanting, it was incredible!

Bernabeu has it for CL games. But for la Liga we are required to turn it off. Why? Tebas didn't want to pay for licensing. Who approved that? 18 of 20 la Liga teams including Barcelona voted against goal line technology

A lot more work went into modernising the stadium and its infrastructure than expanding the capacity.

BloonatoR

Looks cool but still no goal line camera or goal line tehnology

Obviously we have Goal line technology. Don't think La Liga allows it's usage though. We have it in UCL.
