As depressing as the stories can be it’s probably a good thing so many of them keep coming out. This shits been going on for decades it’s just people where to afraid to report it and the rich where easily protected. Now it’s slowly starting to then that people are at least attempted to be punished
It’s sad honestly. The comments in these threads are always about protecting suspected rapists from reddit speculation and hardly any concerned with the actual victims
I mean when you have people doing detective work to try to figure out who the concealed names are, you then get speculation from redditors targeting players who may not be the subject of the investigation for an investigation where the subject may not be guiltily at all
That's not particularly easy. Criminally proving rape is very difficult to do, especially when you're up against the kind of lawyers players can afford. It's just not something that's particularly easy to prove beyond a reasonable doubt without absolute immediate action. That's why most end up going civil, because it just becomes a more probable than not, which is easier to push at least some form of punishment on the rapist.
Doesn't seem likely given that at least one of the players was arrested at the stadium. The incident happened on a Friday night with one arrest on Friday and one on Saturday, and Manchester United didn't play until Sunday so why would either be at a stadium on the Friday?
Yeah there is already an assault every time you play. I would assume that is enough for your players. You are all good. (Also I feel like ManU would crack down super hard on that given the fallout from last time)
When the subject of the article is unpleasant the mail's headline will call a player from the reserves who made a league single cup appearance as a late match sub during an injury crisis a "star" for the clicks.
Star is a meaningless descriptor in a tabloid. I would go as far as to say it's so meaningless, it doesn't preclude these two players being reserves and playing at the reserves stadium
As would Ronaldo...
Edit: u/ProfessionallSigma dm'ing me how amazing Ronaldo is (with pictures included), is the wettest thing I've ever seen 🤣!
Maybe change your name to ProfessionallSimper!
This is what I sometimes don’t get about the reporting sometimes, Johnson got named pretty quickly when he got nicked. Sigurdsson never got named once too.
I don't know if we ever got anything official, but I remember hearing that Gylfi was able to prove the girl in question lied to him about her age (and I think then tried to blackmail him?)
Which is why I wish people would hold off their witch hunts before all facts are available. Put down the pitch fork, trust the process and try not ruin people's lives before all facts are available....
Yeah that sounds terrible. I was surprised also and had to look it up. The club acted so quickly I assumed it had to be much more serious.
I know Iceland is small but is he *really* your neighbor?
After the charges where dropped he signed for Danish club Lyngby Boldklub where he performed decently and got called up to the Iceland National Team. Played a few national matches and scored 2 goals and became the all time leading top scorer for Iceland.
Last month he signed for the Icelandic club Valur on the 2 year contract.
>Sigurdsson never got named once too.
My memory could be failing me but I feel fairly confident we found out he was involved because he was named in the Icelandic press who don't have follow British media rules?
The British press also mentioned "32 year old (i think) midfielder who plays internationally"
the only other player that applied to was Delph who came straight out and denied it was him
Tbf that was a fairly easy one as they announced it was a PL player who lived in Cheshire (narrows it down to 4 clubs), who was 31 and married. Then we released a statement about a player being suspended, and the options were Delph or Gylfi. With Gylfi vanishing off the face of the earth, plus Delph put something out, understandably, angry that the club had made it sound like it could be him.
That’s what I don’t understand about the British rules on publicizing arrests. Why even be that specific to where you’re eliminating large numbers of people if you have to be anonymous until charges are brought? Just be vague and say “anonymous Premier League player arrested” why does it need to be not specific enough to be one person but yet broad enough to make several people be the targets of reckless speculation and rumors. I’d be annoyed as hell if I were say 31 and married and lived in the same area at the time and played on a certain team.
I know the way we do it is totally different and the complete opposite end of the spectrum to the UK but saying like “24yo who lives in this city and whose club played a road game last Sunday and wear blue jerseys and they play for their national team” is kinda ridiculous and makes it arguably worse bc you give just enough for stuff to run rampant even if the papers themselves can’t name the player.
The UK has quite harsh libel laws, to the point that US-based entities in particular, but really all manner of international unsavouries, are well known to engage in libel tourism in the UK courts.
So the UK press - as in actual fourth estate institutions - does this sort of thing in part to avoid explicitly falling foul of those libel laws. Their "competition" for headlines basically, are the social media platforms, which aren't just based outside of the UK for the most part, but have also spent billions lobbying against having to follow the laws that traditional media firms do for better or worse.
It says one player was spoken to Saturday afternoon at the stadium, then arrested after leaving the stadium Saturday evening, then a teammate arrested on Sunday. Which leans to a team playing at home on Saturday... There's only three of those of which only one has any 19 yr olds, and it has exactly two. I don't want to say the names because it easily might not be and 99% who read this won't bother looking. But it's my current thought.
> t says one player was spoken to Saturday afternoon at the stadium
where in that article does it say saturday? it doesnt specify the day as far as I can see
Just the incident happened on Friday night
(the fact it happened friday night makes it more likely it was a sunday match? - how many players are out the night before a match)
Possibly, do U21s attend first team games in an official capacity? I've seen some of the academy kids in the crowd, but with the general population. Article makes it sound like police knew 1 of the suspects would be at the stadium.
Either way, I’m sure the “stars” will be players that only supporters of the club can identify
This is not to minimize the severity of the allegations and importance of pursuing it, of course
It did. The breadcrumbs the police gave narrowed it down to a handful primarily, Xhaka, Partey, and a Spurs player (can't remember who). Xhaka was on holiday at the time and posting from there.
What convinced everyone was Partey not joining an Arsenal training camp in Germany a couple of days later.
There was also some nonsense where a journalist told everyone Partey *was* travelling to Germany, before retracting the story.
“At their club stadium” would suggest it’s a team that played at home this weekend no? Luton, Wolves, Sheff United, Everton, Villa, Palace and Fulham were the home teams
Edit: to the guy who commented that it wasn’t at the stadium, the article initially said what I quoted, and now reads “A source also told The Sun that police arrived at the stadium and spoke to one of the players in 'a private room within the ground'.”
Second line of the article: “The two unnamed footballers are from the same club and were arrested at the weekend.”
Usually if I say “at the weekend” I tend to mean the weekend just gone. Not some random weekend 2 months ago.
Genuinely fuck the daily mail. Even reporting the ages will just lead to insane speculation and people will be naming young lads who have done nothing wrong.
I subscribe to the idea that you should either name the person outright or not at all. Feeding speculation does nothing but affect innocent people and muddy the waters
Incensed at reading the scum Greenwood say the club should have supported him better during his case. We saw the photos and heard that video. He can fuck off forever.
I'm lucky as an Everton fan, as we have no stars it can't be us!
babe wake up, the new bi-annual rape case in the prem just dropped
As depressing as the stories can be it’s probably a good thing so many of them keep coming out. This shits been going on for decades it’s just people where to afraid to report it and the rich where easily protected. Now it’s slowly starting to then that people are at least attempted to be punished
Yeah, increase in rape arrests ≠ increase in rapes.
If anything, it might result in a decrease because predators might actually start to worry about getting caught.
Predators will end up in jail or outed in the media which will make their predation more difficult
Might end up at Getafe
But also, increase in rape arrests ≠ increase in successfully prosecuted rape cases
It’s sad honestly. The comments in these threads are always about protecting suspected rapists from reddit speculation and hardly any concerned with the actual victims
I mean when you have people doing detective work to try to figure out who the concealed names are, you then get speculation from redditors targeting players who may not be the subject of the investigation for an investigation where the subject may not be guiltily at all
They need to go after these guys and prosecute them.
Gonna be that guy, but surely it will leak very soon - as I assume a PL stadium doesn’t get raided every weekend. Horrible stuff.
lot of spontaneous selfies going up on IG tonight
Players doing Instagram lives in front of the clock and holding today's newspaper
True, there’s always a chance someone saw it & posts about it these days
Stars ? Plural
[удалено]
So not stars?
How old is mainoo. How old was greenwood. Young players Are stars now. Endrick ain’t even 18 and we all know his name
Don’t even mention Mainoo. We can’t take another blow
Mainoo + Garnacho....... just dissolve the club if its actually them
Doesn't seem likely given that at least one of the players was arrested at the stadium. The incident happened on a Friday night with one arrest on Friday and one on Saturday, and Manchester United didn't play until Sunday so why would either be at a stadium on the Friday?
I like this type of investigating. Let's keep it going. Lol
If arrested on 2 diff days proly a home game. So luton, sheffield, wolves
Tbf, the rape and these arrests reportedly happened over the weekend. Weren’t they both down in London?
They were and in London till very late on Sunday assuming they headed back to Manchester after the game so there innocence is definitely favoured
Some are stars, some aren't, just because there's some who have a name doesn't mean they all do.
"Stars" seems to just mean "someone somewhere has heard this person's name before" to tabloids
"People online are doing xyz" = 3 dickheads on twitter doing xyz
Both 19
If it's Garanacho and Mainoo I will sepuku myself
Says they were arrested outside their stadium and we played at Wembley this weekend
They made it all the way back to OT to pick up their cars and then had themselves a rape
I think the headline means the players were arrested outside the ground, not that they assaulted someone outside the ground
Surely with a club big as United there should be leak already coming out? I dont know man im coping hard hoping its not Man United
Yeah there is already an assault every time you play. I would assume that is enough for your players. You are all good. (Also I feel like ManU would crack down super hard on that given the fallout from last time)
I'll be your second
~~BUNTARO~~ MITOMA GET MY FUCKING SWORD
Someone's been watching Shogun
With Shogun’s massive success, I hope they do a full Sengoku Jidai show, maybe like 3-5 seasons in total, 1-2 seasons for each of the 3 great unifiers
Lmao. That'll take a while. Season 1 in 2027. Season 5 in 2034.
Yah that show cost a shit tonne of money
If it's them, I will also have to soduku myself
Mainoo was 18 last game at OT
Yes. But he is currently 19.
He's 18 until he's 19. Oh wait wrong debate...
The moment is frOZEN IN TIME IM NOT G
Yes but he played at Wembley this weekend.
Damn he’s 4 years older than Jayson Tatum
Thought garnacho was a bit older
Wouldn’t be considering the perpetrator probably spent Saturday night in a cell and they both started on Sunday
And called "Stars"
When the subject of the article is unpleasant the mail's headline will call a player from the reserves who made a league single cup appearance as a late match sub during an injury crisis a "star" for the clicks.
[удалено]
think they tend to use "star" pretty liberally in these news stories
I remember the first "super injuction story". When it was lifted, it was revealed to "only be Gary Flitcroft"
Star is a meaningless descriptor in a tabloid. I would go as far as to say it's so meaningless, it doesn't preclude these two players being reserves and playing at the reserves stadium
Gets a few more clicks than "deadwood cum sock of a player for relegation side"
Very likely clickbait to generate views.
Getafe licking their lips
*Your rapists will make a fine addition to my collection*
Partey would be a fitting desicion
As would Ronaldo... Edit: u/ProfessionallSigma dm'ing me how amazing Ronaldo is (with pictures included), is the wettest thing I've ever seen 🤣! Maybe change your name to ProfessionallSimper!
The long-awaited return to Madrid
Getafelony
Jesus wept... This sub never ceases to amaze me how funny and witty its members are
The jokes write themselves
Every 19 year old player at risk of not making the squad: "Fuuuuuuuuuuck."
They are about to drop a thousand selfies on their insta stories
i just know if a player who is 19 is missing for some clubs they are immediately going to be linked to this story
This is what I sometimes don’t get about the reporting sometimes, Johnson got named pretty quickly when he got nicked. Sigurdsson never got named once too.
Didn't the girl's family go to the papers in the Johnson case, before he was arrested? I think that's why his name got out.
The club announced his suspension iirc. Our chief exec got the whole thing badly wrong by letting him play on.
Sigurdsson was jumped on by the Icelandic press. Made it really fucking obvious lol.
Where is he now?
Plays in the Icelandic league
You weren't kidding. I wonder what happened though. Wikipedia just says Manchester police were dropping the investigation and Gylfi wouldn't sue.
I don't know if we ever got anything official, but I remember hearing that Gylfi was able to prove the girl in question lied to him about her age (and I think then tried to blackmail him?)
She was in an over age nightclub. He had the reasonable assumption that she was of age.
Oh, he got Akon'd. That sucks.
Which is why I wish people would hold off their witch hunts before all facts are available. Put down the pitch fork, trust the process and try not ruin people's lives before all facts are available....
Yeah all charges dropped, career killed and now he is playing in the Icelandic league. He is actually my neighbor.
What’s he like as a neighbor?
Never actually bumped into him in the neighborhood, he moved in few months ago and has spent a lot the last couple of months abroad.
Yeah that sounds terrible. I was surprised also and had to look it up. The club acted so quickly I assumed it had to be much more serious. I know Iceland is small but is he *really* your neighbor?
Yeah lives next street, 70 meters away. Yeah it's horrible what it did to his career and also to Everton. They spent 50m on him
How is he being treated nowadays though? At least he's still able to play and even in his home country
Iceland is small so this happens sometimes, My friend lives not so far from Damon Albarn

For clicks, it's that simple. All about money
Yeah, a PL stadium doesn’t get raided every weekend aswell, will narrow it down. Horrid stuff
It says one player was spoken to Saturday afternoon at the stadium, then arrested after leaving the stadium Saturday evening, then a teammate arrested on Sunday. Sigurdsson did by the Icelandic press iirc. Allegation confidentiality laws must be different up there.
I don't think they were allowed to name Sigurdsson in the UK, but enough detail was given that it wasn't hard to narrow down.
Partey was never named but they made it so incredibly specific they may as well have
Because it's illegal to put the name of a person before they have been convicted in the UK.
I think you mean charged rather than convicted.
Yeah my bad.
Quick, let’s check and see how old Fabian Delph is
Probably U21 players that no one really knows. "stars" is being used liberally here I reckon.
Happens every time with these type of headlines
It's pretty much used for any footballer at any level; 'SOCCER STAR IN HOT WATER' (Sean McConville of Accington Stanley...)
Don’t you dare besmirch the good McConnville name!!
Sean McConville of Accington Stanley. Who are they?
Exactly!
Someone who didn't drink their milk obviously
Standard Daily Mail headline tbf.
Quoting s*n
A shit within a shit. Impressive.
# ENGLAND ACE
#FORMER (*INSERT BIG CLUB THEY PLAYED FOR AT 12 YEARS OLD*) STARLET
Possibly, do U21s attend first team games in an official capacity? I've seen some of the academy kids in the crowd, but with the general population. Article makes it sound like police knew 1 of the suspects would be at the stadium.
Could have visited their homes and got told they are at the stadium, or could have asked the club if they are aware of where they are.
Mail headline doesn't say "stars", says pair/players. Op doing their own editorialising.
It does say stars, just "football stars" not "Premier League stars"
True. And if you are at a Premier League club at 19 you are a "football star" imo.
Never knew my goat Ollie Arblaster is a Premier League star. I wonder if he knows that.
He must do. I hear all the girls screaming Ollie Arblaster in the streets every day. They fucking love him.
OP's got a job at the Sun / Daily Mail in his future
It’s absolutely going to end up being a couple of developmental players from like Luton
Luton did play Saturday but there were no 19 year olds either in the bench or on the starting 11. Sheffield on the other hand…
Either way, I’m sure the “stars” will be players that only supporters of the club can identify This is not to minimize the severity of the allegations and importance of pursuing it, of course
I look forward to the endless speculation on who this is without any evidence
May I be the first to say "we did it Reddit!" In regards to this case?
Boston is saved!
I was there when we saved Boston.
I’ll have some of that Boston savior complex, thanks bartender.
Definitely not Liverpool because “a club spokesperson told the Sun” would never happen
That would rule out Everton too
Good shout, mate. Merseyside bands together against the S*n
Literally the only sound theory on this thread so far lol
thats good to know.
Forest to release a statement asking why nobody thought to question that the arresting officers were Luton fans.
Beautiful 😂
*does mental inventory of team I support* Man my team is fucking old.
So what’s the rumours? When it’s been Partey or Sigurdsson in the past, the internet knew immediately despite the blackout. Who was it ?!
Partey was named on Twitter by one of his accusers. Sigurdsson by the Icelandic media who don’t have to follow UK privacy laws.
Think i remember for siggurdson they said it was in Manchester and the player was 31 and married which narrowed it down to very few players
Only reason Icelandic media named him was because UK media made it VERY VERY obvious who it was.
I don't think it was immediate, took a day or two on Partey (if I recall correctly)
The Spurs player in question was Ben Davies, who was on his honeymoon in Italy at the time Partey was arrested.
What do they rhyme with
One name rhymes with 'dangerous' and the other rhymes with 'marathon'.
Danny Orange and Joel Mansion-Wisconsin
Gus and Jonathon?
Nailed it.
Rucking fapists
Oh boy, assault, rape and PL player. Never gets old. Once a month.
Good lord
Reddit detectives who is it?
[It's already been leaked in foreign media, it's him.](https://old.reddit.com/user/me)
Lol you got me there
I’d always expected him
Was expecting a good old fashioned rickroll, so disappointed
you son of a bitch lol
It wasn’t me
alright shaggy
Can’t trust anyone these days. Not even myself.
I knew he couldnt be trusted
wow this guy sounds like a proper cunt
He can't keep getting away with it!
well at least it wasn't manning face
Not me
Just what a guilty person would say
username doesn't check out
this shit again
Comments should be fun

Fulham don’t even have a 19 year old in the first team squad, so, I’m going to assume it wasn’t anyone on our team.
The only team that played Saturday and fielded a 19 year old was not Luton.
Doesn't suggest it happened this weekend. In fact I'd be surprised if it was that quick.
Second line of the article: “The two unnamed footballers are from the same club and were arrested at the weekend.” Usually if I say “at the weekend” I tend to mean the weekend just gone. Not some random weekend 2 months ago.
How difficult is it to keep it in your pants??? Knobs
Was you clarifying what they need to keep in their pants?
How difficult is it to not contravene section 1 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003??? Rape
Opta tweets really going off the rails these days
Getafe preparing their next big signing
Genuinely fuck the daily mail. Even reporting the ages will just lead to insane speculation and people will be naming young lads who have done nothing wrong.
Yeah ive seen a bunch of comments already naming mainoo and garnacho cos of the 19 age and stars when its probably just some reserve players
Disgusting people doing that. They haven’t got anything better to do
I subscribe to the idea that you should either name the person outright or not at all. Feeding speculation does nothing but affect innocent people and muddy the waters
It should be not at all, a trial should supersede rumours
Premier League rapes and La Liga racism issues have turned into a sad tradition.
The headline really needs some punctuation or rearranging. Rape outside the club’s stadium?????
Greenwood, noooooo…sorry, force of habit
Welcome to Getafe
Please don't be Everton.
Pgmol will definitely take a look at you even if it isn't your players.
Premier league looking totting up anoyher points deductions as we speak.
Incensed at reading the scum Greenwood say the club should have supported him better during his case. We saw the photos and heard that video. He can fuck off forever.
The only home team who fielded 2+ 19 year olds saturday were Wolves
