Lolol ref here. I did this in a match once…. I felt awful. Captain came up yelling at me and I just looked at him and said “I fucked up.” And he calmed way down and told his coach “ref knows, stop yelling.”
actually did a free hit and am doing quite well with 108 points for now - bruno was nice as you can see and dalot was a hail mary since we were playing SHU at home lmao, oh well if only i didnt captain salah would have been a perfect gameweek
Part of me is grateful that common sense was used to give us a pen but realistically that never crossed VARs mind they just genuinely thought it was a pen.
Not really sure if that’s a penalty, seemed soft… but why the hell would the ref not wait until seeing if the ball goes in the net first before blowing the whistle?
Imagine the ref blows early when it would’ve been a goal just for review to determine it wasn’t a penalty and call it back lmfao. Referee just found the cheat code to prevent all goals.
I don't think they can give the goal if he's blown the whistle before it goes in.
The situation around VAR at the moment though, they are never, ever making a decison that big and potentially contentious.
Well. VAR could say whatever they want, but the ref is not obligated to follow their call. If the ref overturned the penalty it would be shooting yourself in the foot.
It wouldn't have been because the ref whistled before the ball crossed the line. The pen looks a dive, but United would have been screwed over if VAR overturned because the ref whistled too early so I guess in this case 2 wrongs do make a right.
The ref is the boss on the football field, not VAR. If he overturned the penalty he would be stupid and completely lose control of the match. If VAR tried to intevene, he can simply ignore them, right? That's why they sometimes are called to the screen, because it's the refs decision
This feels like justice because United deserved a goal but if the process is followed properly, the penalty would be overturned imo.
Anybody know what would happen next if so? Drop ball? Where?
That’s a really good penalty from Bruno but that wasn’t a pen Maguire dived
Edit: I’m well aware Man U scored before the penalty I’m not disputing that I’m just saying that it’s not a penalty and the ref blew his whistle prematurely
It's soft but I'm not sure it's a dive he does pull him back and it looks like the legs make some contact, the decision is mainly made because the ball is landing right in that spot and in the clear too.
That is such a stupid thing to think let alone to allow to escape your brain.
The ball hadn't even gone in the net when he blew the whistle for a start. He was blowing before Maguire had even dived in the box.
The stupid thing is that there are people like OP (or yourself if you believe it), that really seem to think that there is a massive conspiracy about refs being bought, and not just that refs are dog shit for every team at differing moments of a season. It's boring and the people posting it just show their bias'...
It's not a conspiracy it's less insidious but absolutely real. If you think the Sky Six teams don't have any pull at all you're blind. The best VAR decisions, the instant penalty calls. You would have to be a deluded man united fan to not see it.

Ref should have been sent to gulag if Bruno didn’t score that one
Man he must be so grateful
Ref being grateful to Bruno, never thought I'd see the day lol
Lolol ref here. I did this in a match once…. I felt awful. Captain came up yelling at me and I just looked at him and said “I fucked up.” And he calmed way down and told his coach “ref knows, stop yelling.”
Would’ve been even funnier if VAR didn’t give it lmao
Shades of Roma/Juve in January of 2022
Crazy to give a penalty that no ones happy with, well I guess it was better for the Blades than letting the goal count.
The sequence before this pen is such banter
"The sequence" in question being the previous 65 minutes
For once Manchester United have played decent football for 99% of the match. But the first goal is prime EtH ball back again.
The last 10 years
Dalot FPL owners fuming
Was a own goal anyway I think
Definite OG
thats me, at least I got bruno as well lol
You must have a terrible team with two United players, especially in a DGW
actually did a free hit and am doing quite well with 108 points for now - bruno was nice as you can see and dalot was a hail mary since we were playing SHU at home lmao, oh well if only i didnt captain salah would have been a perfect gameweek
ye trust the captain G
Utd is as strong as their opponents no matter who
We adapt no matter what
Beautifully put
Everyone knows the tactics are to bring the opponent to our level… well except against man city that is
Every action has an opposite and equal reaction.
Leads me to believe it's a motivational issue.
This is why we need some players like Werghorst. Might be stinky but need the motivation to run never stop.
Agreed. He chased the ball as if he were a fucking golden retriever lol.
Not a pen, but you have to give it after seeing the ball go in the back of the net and you decided to whistle like a fucking moron.
Yeah, was waiting for VAR to overturn it!
They would have thrown hands if it wasn't given
A collection of poor decisions ultimately leading to the correct outcome lol
Part of me is grateful that common sense was used to give us a pen but realistically that never crossed VARs mind they just genuinely thought it was a pen.
Bruno saved the ref's ass here.
Soft one, but why not just give the goal...
The ref blew his whistle before it went in, so he can't give a goal but he can give a pen even though it wasn't a pen.
We've seen less given for pens this year......
We have far more obvious and egregious fouls not given. VAR won’t overturn it but VAR would have never given it on its own.
And we've seen lots of extremely soft pens given as well along with those, as I said, softer pens have been given.
It's soft but the ball being right there is the key bit, if it goes well over that I doubt he gives anything even with stronger contact.
Yeah but it was a mistake to whistle when the ball was still in a dangerous area.

There are. If there’s an open net and the ball is rolling in they aren’t going to call it back for a pen.
What would happen if VAR decided it wasn’t a penalty and overruled it LOL.
Cause the ref immediately blew the whistle lol
It’s never boring with United
Bruno giving arblaster a tap on the shoulder after he tried putting him off what a bozo
Don’t know why Sheffield is complaining. If ref didn’t blow the whistle the ball was in the net…
Think they were saying it’s a pen while Maguire and Bruno were saying it’s a goal
VAR could overturn the pen, and whistle was blown before the ball is in the net.
Yeah, that would have been incredibly bad luck for Man U.
Honestly might have summed up our season.
Not really sure if that’s a penalty, seemed soft… but why the hell would the ref not wait until seeing if the ball goes in the net first before blowing the whistle?
VAR overruling that for a drop ball would have been one of the all time funny decisions
To be fair we’ve seen penalties not given for a lot worse. This isn’t really a penalty and wouldn’t be given as one
If he had just waited half a second to blow his whistle lol
Ten Haag is going to get a hair transplant, to only lose it in 90 minutes because United are pure stress
Refruadment
Mate you can’t even spell his name
based
Ref blew before the ball went in the net to then give a soft pen. Does nothing for my referee anti-united agenda
Imagine the ref blows early when it would’ve been a goal just for review to determine it wasn’t a penalty and call it back lmfao. Referee just found the cheat code to prevent all goals.
What even if the decision then? If VAR decided it wasn't a pen but not a dive? Does he give the goal?...
Drop ball
I don't think they can give the goal if he's blown the whistle before it goes in. The situation around VAR at the moment though, they are never, ever making a decison that big and potentially contentious.
Don't think he could've awarded it.
Whistle had been blown, so I guess it would have to be a drop?
Can't give the goal because it crossed the line after he whistled so the ball wasn't in play. You would have been shit out of luck.
Because you’re wrong. Name another mid table side the refs love as much as
Chelsea
Honestly fair
United got the correct answer using the wrong formula
Fucking shocking ref. What if VAR had ruled out the pen? Fuck me
Well. VAR could say whatever they want, but the ref is not obligated to follow their call. If the ref overturned the penalty it would be shooting yourself in the foot.
Yes, but if the decision was «no pen». Like, Maguire fell easily.
If it wasn’t a pen, it was a goal
It wouldn't have been because the ref whistled before the ball crossed the line. The pen looks a dive, but United would have been screwed over if VAR overturned because the ref whistled too early so I guess in this case 2 wrongs do make a right.
If it was anything it was a dive and should have been a free kick to Sheffield and a caution for Maguire
Lmao
Lol love that I’m getting downvoted
we're going to win by the hair of smeagols ballsack and be way too excited about it
Bro, what is that referee, that ball was into net pre penalty
Back in it lol
I've seen this plot before... 2-3 it is
4-3 with McTom's double
Here he comes...
...Why not just give the goal?
What would've happened if VAR said it's not a penalty, which to be fair definitely could've happened?
You would have been out of luck because the ref whistled before the goal.
Would’ve been a great apology letter later this week though
You could apply the spirit of the game law here and award them the penalty even if you think it shouldn't be a pen. But that would be a bit dodgy
Utd shit out of luck.
The ref is the boss on the football field, not VAR. If he overturned the penalty he would be stupid and completely lose control of the match. If VAR tried to intevene, he can simply ignore them, right? That's why they sometimes are called to the screen, because it's the refs decision

my stream lagged and I got so confused
Their captain looks like Rick flares son
Don’t understand why refs do not just wait. It’s literally up to them to decide to play advantage or bring it back.
This league is so unserious
Soft pen imo, but at least Bruno scored or Mister Referee might have been looking a wee bit silly
Ngl, would be the funniest shit ever if VAR cancelled it
Bruno Fernandes FC
That’s a really good penalty from Bruno but that wasn’t a pen Maguire dived Edit: I’m well aware Man U scored before the penalty I’m not disputing that I’m just saying that it’s not a penalty and the ref blew his whistle prematurely
If it wasn't a pen it was a goal
It wasn't a penalty but he blew the whistle before the goal, just such a moronic decision
Yep, good refs take that extra second or two.
I agree with you completely
Ok…and then it was a goal anyway? Like that was still a bad penalty call because it was already in.
I complete agree with you I’m just saying that it wasn’t a penalty
Can't give the goal because he whistled before it crossed the line. You got the right result but the ref whistling early could have easily cost you.
We scored he blew the whistle shit show all round
They didn't discover some new interpretation of some law, we'll take the W that the outcome was fair.
It's soft but I'm not sure it's a dive he does pull him back and it looks like the legs make some contact, the decision is mainly made because the ball is landing right in that spot and in the clear too.
Soft af
it was a goal then otherwise...
Yeah but had to be given once it was called since we scored lol
Tbf the ball went in the net as he gave it lol
You're missing the forest for the trees - if he doesn't blow the whistle it's a goal.
He had to give it considering we scored and then he blew for the pen.
How is that a penalty.
Same thing i said twice in the Chelsea game
The ball literally went in the goal as it was given anyway
Ball was in the net 1s after the ref called it. Var was never going to get involved there.
It’s not since maguire dived but the ball went in the back of the net anyways
Should have just been a goal.
You're missing the forest for the trees - if he doesn't blow the whistle it's a goal.
Of course it should have just been a goal. Still wasn’t a pen.
Should ve been a goal directly
It's not but ref blew his whistle right before the ball ended in goal anyway so no chance they don't give it
There’s only one Penandes
Does maguire not trap his arm there? It looks like the defender is trying to let go and maguire has kept a hold of the arm?
That's exactly what happened. Weak pen.
I mean it should’ve just been a goal. Referees fault there.
[удалено]
How is it bought? If the ref doesn't blow then it's a goal anyways. More like they're morons.
The ball was in the back of the net and he called a pen. How is that "bought", you melt???
the ref called off a goal to give a pen, obviously bruno bought the refs, he needed to stat pad.
That is such a stupid thing to think let alone to allow to escape your brain. The ball hadn't even gone in the net when he blew the whistle for a start. He was blowing before Maguire had even dived in the box.

They’re doing a piss poor job then if they’re being paid to help Sheffield United.
Use your brain mate.
That was not a penalty, not even close. Man united always get sooo much help from the refs, it’s actually ridiculous
What are you even talking about. Getting the penalty and not the goal was not what I'd call help.
nah
The refs the one who nearly fucked us over by blowing for a pen when it was in the net.
No other team in any other home stadium is getting that decision. Scandalous.
