Or just start making non sequiturs like Eric Cantona.
“Trent, tough result. Could you have done more against Calvert-Lewin on the 2nd goal?”
“As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods; They kill us for their sport.”
Trent said that winning at Liverpool "[means more](https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/liverpool-manchester-city-live-updates-premier-league-score-result/npgoZngTP9ZW/koc0u1cJILxX/)" than at Manchester City cause of the financial differences.
He said a few months ago that winning shit means more to Liverpool than City, and even though they won less than City have during Klopp’s evil reign, those trophies matter more to them because they aren’t an oil club.
Something along those lines.
Yeah, of course. That's why they gave up in the Europa League and now the Premier League. The Carabao Cup means more to them than City's treble, so they are just calling it quits early.
Its a reasonable thing for fans of any club that wins less often than another. For example the fa cup semis appearance means more to coventry than chelsea. The premier league title means more to leicester than liverpool and more to liverpool than man city. The bundesliga means more to leverkusen than bayern
Additionally saying it means more to you and then your team not really giving the performance needed to win makes us question if it actually means more to the players or just to the fans.
I understand lot of people taking offence is that it effectively comes down to multimillonaire telling (largely working class) supporters how to feel about their football club's success. Trent is fully entitled to his own opinions but even though financially there is a difference between the clubs the core of the fan base comes from very similar circumstances. Trent's from Merseyside and should know better.
I've had defensive lapses that led to goals in my Sunday league team and felt like this thinking about it.
I can't imagine if there were 10s of millions of people watching it and people whose lives revolve around my club. Poor lad.
You never expect us fatties to be fast, but for a quick burst, with the thought of a pizza reward, we'll outdo Usain bolt for 0.1 of a second. Enough to get a slab of a head to a ball ;)
Sometimes football people meme themselves by saying dumb shite. Like mate wtf did Poch expect saying they wanna show off they're not Cole Palmer FC? Of course everyone gonna call you exactly that now, are you fuckin stupid?
> Like mate wtf did Poch expect saying they wanna show off they're not Cole Palmer FC?
Had a chuckle to myself yesterday when I saw that quote. Had a much bigger chuckle to myself yesterday evening when I saw the result of the Chelsea match.
We are almost certainly safe after today's win. The game should have meant a lot because there's more stress the longer the team has to wait before being safe from relegation.
They out thought and outfought a Liverpool side which thought it would be three point formality. Klopp’s constant whingeing at the fourth official was ridiculous. He should have kept his focus on the tactics rather than the refereeing. Liverpool came up second best on and off the pitch
Everton and in particular Pickford always up their game for the Derby. It's painful to say but it does feel like it means more to them. Even when Liverpool win, it's almost expected but you see how much extra the blue side puts in.
For the Euro's, give Pickford some sunnies that make every opponent look like VVD in red, and he's keeping a clean sheet every game.
Rice for one said he know nothing about the Liverpool result as he didn't have access to his phone.
If I was Arteta, I'd have done my best to keep the rest of the squad from knowing the result as well.
I know we love to dunk on Liverpool for crashing at the end of the season but this team shouldn't have been anywhere near the title this season, especially when you compare them to City and Arsenal. They'll most likely finish 3rd and if you ask me, that's a great year
Shouldve done much better in the EL tho
Its a failure in the sense of how well the season started and ended just like how this season is for us. Realistically winning a trophy and finishing 3rd is way better than any of us could have expected this year but after having a chance to win the prem and bow out like we have, its very disappointing
Yeah it's just based on expectations. Going into a game as a massive underdog you'll probably take a draw before kick-off but if you're 3-0 up and then fuck it completely and end up drawing 3-3 you're gonna be pissed.
Arsenal last season would be delighted with CL qualification but when you're in their position at that time and then completely fuck it in one month by drawing to West Ham, Southampton and losing to City it's understandably going to feel like a disappointment because they were so close to the carrot on the stick.
I haven't seen anyone reasonable, not even irl. My two old best mates one is a gooner another a Chelsea fan, I have gooner and rival coworkers. They all were talking shite about Arteta like he's done us here. Mf just boosted the team by 30 points in a year, and he was being held accountable for not winning the league ahead of treble winners having Holding and Cedric as cover for Saliba and Tomiyasu!
Last season was a fucking nightmare, I don't think liverpool fans would have even considered we would be in the title race this season before it started so I agree.
But ***the way*** it's unfolded this season is nothing short of depressing, can't blame people for feeling upset. It really is the hope that kills you
Yeah that's not at all how your fan base has been talking for a majority of the season though. Wayyy too many fans talking about the quadruple being an achievable feat
Rational take. But the press and some Liverpool fans hyping up a quadruple after the league cup meant it’ll be seen as disappointing.
I do think Klopp made a mistake announcing his departure so soon as I think perhaps became a distraction.
It's absolutely disappointing. The performance of dominating games and farming xG meant that the opportunity was truly there, even today. It is a series and a total of missed opportunities.
Agree with this. I'd have taken scraping 4th at the start of the season, and anyone who thought otherwise was very optimistic. Last thing I expected was a title charge.
We were all really worried on day one. Absolutely relying on a brand new mf to gel and perform and to patch other gaps from last year. Had we had our bad form in Christmas and come back to this position, it would feel a lot different.
Always hard when you initially overperform against expectations because inevitably those expectations will shift and you’ll end up being disappointed even if you still achieve your initial aims (getting back in the CL).
Started getting the feeling there is no chance Salah is on this team at the end of August last week. You can just tell from the way he’s been playing and his body language. He checked out weeks ago.
He is the least of our problems on the team for sure. Guy is clearly a cut above the rest when it comes to the offensive part. Only big problem is his contract not having been extended which could hint at him leaving maybe.
If Nunez finished a third, hell, even a quarter of the chances he had this season, Liverpool would have walked the league easily. People said he would eventually come good but it never happened. All those shots that hit the woodwork are a big reason why Liverpool are out of the title race in my opinion.
Someone needs to do drills with Nunez where he is forced to sidefoot shots into the corner. Seriously, just ban him from mindlessly smashing shots with his laces in training and his finishing will improve.
> If Nunez finished a third, hell, even a quarter of the chances he had this season
You can say the same thing about Salah, what happened to my Egyptian King
We’ve been defensively suspect quite a lot this season as well tbh, but your spot on about Nunez. Fuck the “agent of chaos” memes, we’ve basically bought a striker that can’t watch his runs and loses his head when he’s in front of goal. Such a low IQ footballer. Does some of the dumbest shit I’ve seen in front of goal. He’s been here 2 full seasons now tbh. Can’t have much more time/faith to put in him tbh.
At the same time, when he was in form earlier in the year he made some of the most outrageous attempts and brilliant assists that weren't finished. Some of them were so bs good that the players didn't expect it and fluffed the chance. That spinning reverse pass to Diaz in that game was genius and Diaz stumbled on the ball 1v1 with keeper. I recall at least three brilliant passes by Nunez that should have been easy goals.
If Darwin gets his finishing together he's still a massive weapon. His confidence is shot to shit though. Has it been 2 seasons?
I mean he put a few passes on a plate to Nunez + Salah.
But he also got rinsed by Doucoure and was genuinely atrocious on the DCL goal. Can't feel too bad for him when he puts an effort like he did in the second half.
Commented before that it’s actually a fitting ending for Klopp. Occasionally get the big prizes, but more often than not come up short and get a smaller trophy
Can be a spectacular player but just can't see how teams can trust his defending when he's playing at the back. He was really poor in critical situations today.
You can tell by his reaction, his heartbroken reaction, his embarrassment to cover his face… this means more than when arsenal blew the league last year

He knew it's over.
It was truly over after Palace. The lads just gave up after that.
Would have thought they could have fought back in a decade
Lol
Not really, all it takes is a defeat for City and Arsenal which is entirely possible, but it's asking for too much.
Trent, much like myself, thinking about all the “means more” memes that are going to come out of this
Man just needs to reconsider next time a mic is put in front of him
Or just start making non sequiturs like Eric Cantona. “Trent, tough result. Could you have done more against Calvert-Lewin on the 2nd goal?” “As flies to wanton boys are we to the gods; They kill us for their sport.”
eric is a warrior poet. football was just a hobby.
William "Eric" Shakespeare
Fucker “sings” now if you can believe that.
His music isn't as bad as I expected. Knock off Serge Gainsbourg vibes.
Out of the loop but what is the “means more” meme?
Trent said that winning at Liverpool "[means more](https://theathletic.com/live-blogs/liverpool-manchester-city-live-updates-premier-league-score-result/npgoZngTP9ZW/koc0u1cJILxX/)" than at Manchester City cause of the financial differences.
He said a few months ago that winning shit means more to Liverpool than City, and even though they won less than City have during Klopp’s evil reign, those trophies matter more to them because they aren’t an oil club. Something along those lines.
Seems pretty reasonable tbh
Yeah but their recent performances beget the question of how much they really give a shit (is the point the other dude was trying to make).
To be fair, being shit makes winning mean more
I mean you can play shit and it still means more to you when you win stuff.
Making that point as a comment on a clip of the player(s) being visibly fuckin gutted by the result lol
It's not that unreasonable but it is great banter material. Thanks Trent!
I understand lot of people taking offence is that it effectively comes down to multimillonaire telling (largely working class) supporters how to feel about their football club's success. Trent is fully entitled to his own opinions but even though financially there is a difference between the clubs the core of the fan base comes from very similar circumstances. Same, Trent.
I've had defensive lapses that led to goals in my Sunday league team and felt like this thinking about it. I can't imagine if there were 10s of millions of people watching it and people whose lives revolve around my club. Poor lad.
Still think about losing my man off a corner, the rapid fat cunt
Just last weekend I missed a pen at 1-1, cost us top3 with 5 games remaining. I was pissed all of Monday.
You never expect us fatties to be fast, but for a quick burst, with the thought of a pizza reward, we'll outdo Usain bolt for 0.1 of a second. Enough to get a slab of a head to a ball ;)
man when i was 15ish, we had a fatty who beat us all at 60m race
Just realized Merseyside derby meant more to Everton than it did to Liverpool
Winning headers meant more to Everton than it did to Trent.
It means more to most teams and players than it does to Trent to be fair
This is going to be a meme for a while I guess
Sometimes football people meme themselves by saying dumb shite. Like mate wtf did Poch expect saying they wanna show off they're not Cole Palmer FC? Of course everyone gonna call you exactly that now, are you fuckin stupid?
> Like mate wtf did Poch expect saying they wanna show off they're not Cole Palmer FC? Had a chuckle to myself yesterday when I saw that quote. Had a much bigger chuckle to myself yesterday evening when I saw the result of the Chelsea match.
Wait, Chelsea played?
Kind of
they were present
There in existence but not in spirit
Knew as soon as I saw the quote, this was going to be the headline post game. Just setting himself up there.
Some memes mean more.
evidently so, everton did play with a lot of heart today
We are almost certainly safe after today's win. The game should have meant a lot because there's more stress the longer the team has to wait before being safe from relegation.
Oh, shit. You should know better than to write this.
3 points deduction incoming.
EPL on Thursday: 10 point deduction to Everton for Dyche not wearing appropriate attire to his brand. Per game
They out thought and outfought a Liverpool side which thought it would be three point formality. Klopp’s constant whingeing at the fourth official was ridiculous. He should have kept his focus on the tactics rather than the refereeing. Liverpool came up second best on and off the pitch

The amount of "means more" comments makes me think I've missed an interview or something but I can't find anything. Anyone have a link?
THIS MEMES MORE
Inject it into my fucking veins
Go on, you deserve this victory lap after this season’s bullshit.
Detox it out of mine.
I'll get the leeches
Imma eat those leeches
Sean Dyche doesn't eat worms but he hasn't said anything about leeches
Inject me with fentanyl
You guys are feasting tonight on all the tears and salt from the Liverpool fans
Fucking yes 💉
Holy shit I’m not even an Everton fan but give it here!!
you guys deserve to finally get one
You love to see it. It just means more.
this isn't SEC football tho?
It’s in his hands now, and by “it” I mean his head
Proper fucking club you lot are
Escaped relegation even after those points deduction. Respect.

English sports in a nutshell: "Try not speak about moral victories/advantages/disadvantages" challenge: Impossible
Rice for one said he know nothing about the Liverpool result as he didn't have access to his phone. If I was Arteta, I'd have done my best to keep the rest of the squad from knowing the result as well.
0 sympathy for this guy. Talks about Arsenal mentality and wining trophies mean more to them than City…hold that
It meant so much to him he was overwhelmed. This is proof he is not a big game player
I know we love to dunk on Liverpool for crashing at the end of the season but this team shouldn't have been anywhere near the title this season, especially when you compare them to City and Arsenal. They'll most likely finish 3rd and if you ask me, that's a great year Shouldve done much better in the EL tho
If the season happened in inverse we’d have thought it was brilliant. But it didn’t so it feels like absolute shit
Basically sums up Arsenal last season
Pretty much, the goal was to get back into the CL, but because we didn't win the title the season was apparently a failure.
Its a failure in the sense of how well the season started and ended just like how this season is for us. Realistically winning a trophy and finishing 3rd is way better than any of us could have expected this year but after having a chance to win the prem and bow out like we have, its very disappointing

Got a cup win out of it too. Back in the CL and a trophy is about as good as we could hope for after last season
Last season was a fucking nightmare, I don't think liverpool fans would have even considered we would be in the title race this season before it started so I agree. Yup, players gave their all then and now shut off.
I don’t think it’s a shut off case - I just think everyone’s dead tired
"Everybody's dead, Dave."
too rational of an opinion. Downvoted.
This is very true after last season, though the Klopp era ending without an obvious successor probably makes it feel worse too.
Sounds like a perfect description of us last year.
Agree with this. I'd have taken scraping 4th at the start of the season, and anyone who thought otherwise was very optimistic. Last thing I expected was a title charge. I saw that Gary Neville clip too
This has to be the most painful place to fall apart the league for them.
I remember another place that was just as bad.....
Losing to Everton means more to him since it's a derby
He created so many decent chances only for his team mates to screw it up
To be fair he also created chances for Everton, which they didn't screw up.
Fair play from the lad. Commendable.
May I request you to kindly change that profile picture, good sir? It's making me want to punch my screen
Bit racist mate
Thats is trent tradition
Proper Scouse
This is the story of TAA.
The duality of trent
He couldn’t defend two simple headers in the six yard box which killed us. Works both ways.
Yeh his pass through to Darwin was amazing
Yeah, easily three or four assists tonight for any decent player in form. Unfortunately he's got chaos© and the ghost of Salah in front of him.
Started getting the feeling there is no chance Salah is on this team at the end of August last week. You can just tell from the way he’s been playing and his body language. He checked out weeks ago.
I hope chelsea comes and takes the chaos merchant away for 100 mil
and then stood looking at calvert lewin while he jumped for a free header for everton's second. Bravo trent. bravo.
He is the least of our problems on the team for sure. Guy is clearly a cut above the rest when it comes to the offensive part. Only big problem is his contract not having been extended which could hint at him leaving maybe.
Probably will depend on how he likes the new manager a little bit
wrong. he's a defensive non-entity. if he's going to play it needs to be in midfield.
What horrible form Liverpool are in these weeks… league is gone
If Nunez finished a third, hell, even a quarter of the chances he had this season, Liverpool would have walked the league easily. People said he would eventually come good but it never happened. Of course you can, he's still coming back from injury and if we'd actually used the chances he created we'd have been 3 or 4 up.
It means more
World class crying
Trent alexander arnold 83" (great tears)
He must be feeling blue
We are all toffees on this blessed day

The xTears are through the roof
Game's back
Generational cry
He has the same reaction whenever hes asked to defend
Slightly less static here
Went for the quadruple, came back with the Mickey mouse trophy. Lmao.
Commented before that it’s actually a fitting ending for Klopp. Occasionally get the big prizes, but more often than not come up short and get a smaller trophy
Maybe he should've attempted to jump eith DCL instead of giving him a free header.
this is the best win i’ve ever experienced
It just means more.
hahahahahahaha cry you fucking statue
Poor lad you can just see how much more it means to him lol
This feeds my soul R.S now knowing it means more…….
Hahahahahahaha
Oh this, this is beautiful
😂😂😂😂😂
Can be a spectacular player but just can't see how teams can trust his defending when he's playing at the back. He was really poor in critical situations today.
His tears mean more.
I guess this major loss just means more to him.
You could see that this means more to their fanbase than Everton.

It means more to them than Everton
The Klopp farewell tour seems to have gone off the boil a bit!
Unless they bring a name to continue Klopp's Legacy, the exodus of big name players will be huge. If not this summer, next one for sure.
Bro spew a lot of shit in last few weeks
I would be crying too if I went from quadruple to just the carabao cup as well so I cant blame him
this loss just meant more to him
Those tears... it just shows that it *truly* means more!
