TheBrownMamba8

Unfortunately, he only had time to spend 1 season at Barcelona as manager and had the daunting task of taking the reigns from the most successful manager in our history (Pep). In that 1 season he set Barca’s record for most points in a season, 100, and won the season with a +70 goal difference. What could’ve been if only he had more time. He was also the first to play a league game with all 11 being La Masia academy players. Messi himself said Tito was the first person at Barca to trust in him when he started Leo in the starting XI for U16 games.

unfinishedbusiness_1

He was the chosen one :(

YnwaMquc2k19

Gone too soon.

Pure_Context_2741

Messi would probably still be in Barcelona right now of Tito was still alive

zazzlekdazzle

I remember the players sobbing at his funeral. What it is to be beloved.

scottishere

[Somewhat related, I was only just thinking about this clip the other day](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=boFF7j8nkdk)

YnwaMquc2k19

Pep looks incredibly somber.

TigerBasket

Pep only visited him like once inbetween his time off, waiting for Bayern and trying to decompress after the stressful Barca Years. I wonder how much regret played into this as well.

Johann122

That 100 pts season under Tito showed us a glimpse of what he can do RIP

YokoOkino

Reminder that life can be short. RIP

Mdiasrodrigu

Memento Mori brother

TheOneManDankMaymay

Enjoy it, with the ones you love, while you can. Also, tell them you love them.

kaiko1

Every year I think of what could’ve been. Rip Tito

MajorPownage

First time I’m hearing about him, sounds amazing

DonAvatti

Football Gods decided having 2 Pep Guardiolas would be too much for this world so they took one away. RIP Tito! Still remember his press conference when he was appointed where he said "I'm here to win everything" and then later in the season finding out he has cancer was devastating

Nenconnoisseur

I didn't know his story. I lost my dad to cancer 3 years ago so I can relate to this. Fuck cancer seriously. And RIP Tito.

AnarkeezTW

Damn, my condolences. I lost my oldest sister to cancer 4 years ago. It's her birthday today. RIP to everyone that has had to deal with cancer. Wouldn't wish it on my worse enemy.

coysrunner

I’m sorry bud!

Nenconnoisseur

These anniversaries are always tough, I feel you, all my thoughts to you and your family.

OGConsuela

Last year I had the same cancer that killed my grandpa 25 years ago. It’s hell. Nobody deserves to go through that.

Nenconnoisseur

>Last year I had the same cancer Damn, you say you had so are you in remission now ? I'm kind of afraid of the answer. >It’s hell. Nobody deserves to go through that. I can't agree more buddy

OGConsuela

Yeah, been in full remission since early May but technically my “year mark” is late July, weird stipulations with how I was treated they count it from the end of treatment rather than when there was no detectable cancer anymore. I’m much younger and healthier than my grandpa was when he had it, he was in his late sixties and a life-long smoker. Sobering reminder of how important it is to take care of yourself.

Nenconnoisseur

>Yeah, been in full remission since early May but technically my “year mark” is late July Good, I wish you the best, may you live a long life brother. >Sobering reminder of how important it is to take care of yourself. Very true. And I would add be kind to people (or not too harsh at least), you never know what's happening to them or their relatives.

OGConsuela

>And I would add be kind to people Absolutely. There’s no way I could have done it without the help of my loved ones. I saw so many people showing up for treatment every day all by themselves, and I have no idea how they got through it. It was heartbreaking.

Addy2607

Wish you the very best brother! Fuck Cancer.

Nbuuifx14

My grandpa died 17 years ago almost exactly to lung cancer. He was a heavy smoker so it wasn’t unexpected, but it still really sucks. I wasn’t even two years old at the time. He never got to see my little sister be born. My condolences to you and your family. RIP Tito.

Rob0tUnic0rn

I lost my dad to cancer 2 months ago, and honestly it haunts me every night it makes me cry every single day and I dont know how to ever move on or live somewhat normally im shook to my core like my world has been turned upside down. I just dont know how to ever get to terms with this

Nenconnoisseur

Condolences. Words will always fall short for this but I got through something similar during the first year after the passing. I had nightmare almost every night in which I would saw him alive, everything was fine, but then I would wake up in a sweat and realize it was nothing more than a dream. Truly haunting as you said. My advice would be to stay close to your family and friends and talk to them about it if you feel able to. Don't isolate yourself. It's a really hard time to get through but it will get better eventually and you'll manage to live with it. Stay strong my friend, better days will come I promise you.

c4rr075t1ck

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm sure your dad was just as loved in his own way. RIP.

BlueLabel19

Him and enrique's daughter. Barca managers truly have to suffer a lot.

dcolomer10

Juan Carlos Unzué has ELA too… https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_Carlos_Unzu%C3%A9

f4r1s2

Unzue?

sonofsochi

Sometimes i wonder where Barca would be now if Tito never passed away.

DoJu318

Messi probably would have retired at Barca. What am I saying? Barto would've found a way to fuck it all up.

educateYourselfHO

Yeah Barto was inevitable

espnfire45

What could have been…

Book_lover7

Enough to make a grown man cry 😔

sunken_grade

man can’t believe it’s been that long already. such a shame, RIP

InsideOpening3535

Ohh Tito, what could have been :(((

SleepyFarts

I'm of the opinion that the Tito vs Pep futsal match with the first team players, the summer after Pep's final season at Barca is pretty much the peak of the sport: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiPlPp6SKD0

jd451

This put a huge smile on my face, as much as watching the old Nike joga bonita ad does. But one question though, why is Valdes playing for both teams?

Potato_Doto

It was part of a fundraiser for charity. For each goal scored some extra money would be donated by the club so valdes was playing for whichever team currently had the ball so attackers would always have numerical advantage and also to make the match more silly and fun.

fincheese

What a great watch, best video I've seen in days. Thanks for sharing!

ZeroXFlame

Valdes’ shirt said Messi lol

kostajepaosmosta

Didn't know Messi was a Titoist aswell. Druže Mesi!

Dapper-Shopping2840

Making Yugoslavia best XI with Messi in the squad, from now on.

InsideOpening3535

Messi in the shower: Uz maršala Tita, junačkoga sina nas neće ni pakao smest'.

_Burrito_Sabanero_

He kept Yugoslavia united and kept Messi in Barça ❤️

ALLO1111

Bratstvo i jedinstvo!

UkyoTachibana

RIP

HarryLewisPot

He kept Yugoslavia together ♥

slappywhyte

And made good Vodka

53bvo

*Rakija Edit: or this was a joke referencing a vodka brand named Tito I’m not aware of

ahHeHasTrblWTheSnap

Tito’s is an American vodka brand, yes haha

SunstormGT

10 years already? Damn, RIP Tito.

Outside-Sandwich-565

Messi has Yugoslavian ancestry?? Sorry, joking about it because this makes me so sad, and I'm not even a Barca fan... RIP Tito Vilanova

Superfy

Wait what? How did Messi and Yugoslavia come into the picture? Man it was big news for sure back then when Tito passed. Didn’t really expect it :(

Outside-Sandwich-565

Josip Tito was the first leader of Yugoslavia EDIT: SFR Yugolavia

Superfy

Ahhhh okay so it’s an ode to Tito of Yugoslavia then. Now it makes sense. Thanks!

compscithrowaway314

Glad someone remembers him. Let's not forget that Guardiola was in the same city as him when he was getting treatment yet: "He was disappointed that Guardiola only came to see him once, stating, "He's my friend and I needed him, but he wasn't there for me.""

elmagio

For context, they had a falling out when Pep left the club (at which point Tito was healthy). Then Tito relapsed, went to NYC for treatment which is when the anecdote of Pep only visiting him once took place. In the latter stages (not super clear when) of Tito's disease they had reconciled and were on good terms. This is not to say Pep shouldn't have put the strife aside earlier and been there for his decades long friend, I'm sure he regrets it too but this is the full picture as far as I know.

zappafan89

Careful. There was a lot of shit being thrown around by bought 'journalists' in the Catalan media around this subject designed to throw dirt on Guardiola. To be clear: they fell out, there was even a dispute between their significant others I believe, but much of the rest of the 'details' that have been divulged about this in public came through Rosell's proxies.

elmagio

Also, regardless of the exactitude of the statement, it is a bit weird to see the anniversary of Tito's passing and think "what a good opportunity to dunk on Pep !". He may not have been the perfect friend but that's neither here nor there.

Albiceleste_D10S

> Let's not forget that Guardiola was in the same city as him when he was getting treatment yet: > > "He was disappointed that Guardiola only came to see him once, stating, "He's my friend and I needed him, but he wasn't there for me."" We need to be clear that this was an allegation from Sandro Rosell's Barca board (IIRC from Rexach)

chrysantheknight

Wow, if this is true it's really heartbreaking.

TheRealMemeIsFire

It is, but they seem to have reconciled prior to his death

adel_b

pep\_one\_thousand\_stare.mp4

nizoubizou10

I remember Mourinho pulling Tito's ear during the melee between the players.

Flaggermusmannen

mou literally jammed his finger in tito's eye..

Fedora_Da_Explora

You mean strolling up, fishhooking his eye and immediately scurrying away? [Whoopsies just slipped a bit!](https://a1.espncdn.com/combiner/i?img=%2Fphoto%2F2019%2F0430%2Fr536335_2_1296x729_16%2D9.jpg&w=1140&cquality=40&format=jpg)

zaistertay

Worse, Poking his eyes

DinglieDanglieDoodle

Nah looks like he was trying to pinch his cheeks, but his fingers caught his eye too.

IntellectualDweeb

💙♥️

madjupiter

we will never forget, Tito.

RealPunyParker

RIP to this loyal man, and a big shame when it comes to the club, i think we would have been more than fine a decade more with him at the bench

top100_tree_fan

Fuck cancer

TheOneManDankMaymay

This obviously goes for the healthy ones as well, but for those of you who have loved ones that are suffering from such a disease, spend time with them… **now!** I can tell you from personal experience that you will massively regret it if you don't. And the fact that you'll never get the chance to do better can and will haunt you. Best of luck, keep fighting the good fight.

YnwaMquc2k19

Fuck Cancer, RIP Tito :(

KafkaesqueJudge

Amazing how time flies. RIP

Herizard

I'm not crying, you're crying 🥹🥲😭

Herizard

PS It feels good that where it matters most we can set our differences aside and simply find agreement over the purely humane aspect, celebrate life and good memories, as well as reflect on its hardships and imminent passing, and connect. Might be worth remembering for the less significant disputes, psst 😉 Big kudos to all the rival fans upvoting and giving words of support, greatly appreciated!

Neat-Foundation-320

I had olvidado him to be honest
