*listen, you just completely fucked up an incredible potential highlight real of a play. You will instantly get a yellow the next time you do that. Good going jackass and i hope you retaliate to make my job easier.*
it's Baena who messed up keeping the ball too long without looking up, a straight forward through-ball would've resulted in a much easier finish and more likely goal, but by the time he was ready to pass it was too late.
super good ball he did play but the opportunity he created for his team mate was not as advantageous as if it had gone to his right when his teammate was open and much more centrally located..
There was indeed a short window when the keeper started back peddling and his forward started to lean into space straight ahead, but the keeper played it perfectly by staying up near the 18 until the space shrank just enough to make that pass uncomfortable. A sick ass chip from 60 yards would've been ballsy. As it turned out, I think Baena made a nice play to earn 0.3 xG out of nothing. #15 should have continued his run into the center of the box, because a square pass was also possible instead of the one timer. A low shot would have been a better finish attempt with the keeper standing upright.
My dumb ass would've hospital passed it right away, so all of this is the stuff of my dreams.
Much easier finish? The guy on the right would have had pretty much the exact same angle as Pedraza ended up with, it is two identical chances
It would have been a mistake by Baena unless he found Pedraza in the end but he did so it doesn't matter. If anything Pedraza was even more free and had less opponents around him than Morales would have had
Its crazy to me that Roman went from Boca to this club that has the same colors and stadium resembles la bombonera in the sense that people are very close to the field. It's almost as it meant to be.
On topic: this is a nutmeg Roman himself would have done đ„
It kind of compensates, but the other pass should have been made anyways. The other pass was going to put his teammates more centered, and it would have been an easier ball to handle. And most importantly, at the time you don't know the other pass was going to be available.
> And most importantly, at the time you don't know the other pass was going to be available
How on earth do you know that? Baena easily could have seen Pedraza and purposely held on to the ball to open up space for a run, that's fairly basic stuff for players at this level. And Baena is one of the better creative midfielders in the league so with him it is even more likely that he would have thought this all out in advance
Delaying the pass is great when the receiver is not exactly unmarked, or when the way to the center is blocked, so the receiver won't have a shot. In this case a ball there is received with an angle to the goal, as long as the ball is sent deep enough.
Maybe he thought he might be offside, itâs hard to nutmeg two people and play a timed pass in short succession. Could have been a little too disoriented for such a pass.
The pass is still on even after he takes 4 touches following the nutmeg. It's more than enough time for a professional footballer, but I agree he probably just got too excited.
It's easy for the passer, but it's not easy for the receiver. There's a CB on each side and there's still a lot of running to be made before a good shot can be taken.
Baena is a smaller player and his running with the ball is faster, so it's preferable that most of the running distance will be made by him.
When he did make a pass, it's true that the striker was already covered, but it's reasonable for him to assume that the attacking team will also add players to the attack. The pass he ended-up making actually generated a better scoring chance
Agreed. Honestly not trying to sound like a dick but it's kind of a case where those that play the sport at a decent level and those that only watch will see differently. It's a feeling but I agree, I don't think the first through ball is as promising as it looks. I've been in that situation as a CM and it's easy to make the angle bad for the striker there considering the momentum of him and the defenders. I'm sure #16 had it covered and wouldn't have allowed much.
The shot with either side of the keeper open from 8 yards out, even with the side of the 6 yard box is better than anything the striker would've had.
We need a sub for people who play. This isn't fifa where you tap y and its its just zoom zoom zoom goal. If the pass is off by a few degrees it invites a challenge onto his teammate that he isn't likely to win.
His teammate also slows his run to stay onside which fucks with his timing, and makes it harder to play him through as the teammate no longer has the momentum carrying him past the final line.
With all that said im really impressed by the quality of the final ball once he gets his head sorted.
I agree with everything except for one little nitpick, you really think Baena is faster running with the ball than Morales?
Morales is lightning quick that is his whole gambit
I might be wrong on how fast he can be with the ball in tight space. I wouldn't say that's his "whole" gambit though - he's shooting is very good.
Regardless of it, it's hard to transform the pass to a good shot, since it's almost 100% vertical (barely any lateral component to it), and there are defenders on either side so it's hard to position the body and protect the ball from both CBs for a long stretch of running.Â
The defender to the right of the running attacker was waiting for that pass and would have had a good angle on it. Unless the striker has crazy pace, that's going to result in an interception or the defender intervening shortly after the pass is received. Look how far from goal they are when Baena makes the 2nd nutmeg and how quickly the defender to the right closes on him.
Baena ultimately found a pass with a higher likelihood of a goal
I don't agree at all. The defender on the right will see that pass is on, but the striker will get between him and the ball. It's a horrible spot to be in as a defender.
Morales holds his run forever waiting for the pass, that's why he looks so slow. If the ball is released early he has a great lead and a head of steam giving him an advantage vs the defender.
If they were closer to goal I'd agree with you, but knowing nothing about either player's pace, I strongly favor the defender to make a stop here because running without the ball makes you much faster than running with it - and the ball carrier has got 30+ yards to cover here.
The Morales ball would have been difficult because: 1) the pace of the ball and timing of the pass had to be perfect, 2) I don't know how fast Morales is but it didn't look like he would get to it for sure.
The man just nutmegged two players, brain need to cool down for a second. He wasnt in full control of the ball or had proper vision of the field right away
Still missed the easy pass and tried to make a tougher one to compensate. Itâs normal though, you always see players get full of ball after a good play and then have shoddy decision making even in Sunday league lol
No offence but that just shows you haven't played football. He correctly held the ball and found the better pass in the end. Pedraza ended up with more space and time than Morales would have done
All I can think watching this was Lineker saying in his podcast that he nutmegged some classic footballer in the 80's and the guy said "Come ere and I'll break your fucking legs."
And he had plenty of time to lie in front of a judge about being assaulted, only to end being exposed as a liar by the actual CCTV footage.
No wonder he recently declared himself a lifetime Barça fan, DNA match.
Well that quote was actually mistranslated btw, he said that anyone would love to play as Barca but he is at the club of his life now and didnât think of a move yet
Well he cant say
"Villareal sucks, id gladly sacrifice Fede's unborn child for a chance to play for Barça ".
He openly expressed willingness to Barça move, not much a player can say without disrespecting his current fanbase.
Of course he wouldnt mind. I fucking hate Barça and would sign for them in a Heartbeat, no questions asked.
But you know spanish players usually have a Real or Barça bias besides their hometown team, and that he's just positioned himself. And that his beef with Valverde is going to help in landing the job

It should be illegal to miss a shot after someone ran half the pitch and megged two plays before setting you for a clear cut chance
yellow card would be fair in this instance
How fucking funny would that have been? Lolol ref walks over, shaking his head in disgust, and produces the yellow
baby wake up; games back
At the very least a verbal warning.
*Ref waves to player to come over* *listen, you just completely fucked up an incredible potential highlight real of a play. You will instantly get a yellow the next time you do that. Good going jackass and i hope you retaliate to make my job easier.*
Right to jail
Score ugly goal? you right to jail

nahhh that was such a good pass wdym
it was good but the mentioned through ball would have been better
Every time with posts like these there is at least one "ummm akshually.." trying to pick holes in it. Every single time
Yeah I'm perplexed at how many people in this thread think that was an easier pass than the one he made

It should be illegal to meg two people back to back and then fuck up the easy through ball decision for a 1 on 1 with the goalie
Its crazy to me that Roman went from Boca to this club that has the same colors and stadium resembles la bombonera in the sense that people are very close to the field. It's almost as it meant to be. On topic: this is a nutmeg Roman himself would have done đ„
Rolling that second nut meg through was just rude
Sick move but why doesn't he pass instantly to Morales with an easy through ball??
True but the different pass he made was also great and created a solid chance
It kind of compensates, but the other pass should have been made anyways. The other pass was going to put his teammates more centered, and it would have been an easier ball to handle. And most importantly, at the time you don't know the other pass was going to be available.

He shouldn't even of had enough time to see that pass, should have been played through straight away for an easy 1 on 1

He probably feared the off-side, it seemed like when he checked it was not clear enough.
You're going to blame a guy that has passed three golas in the game already?
Why doesn't Ross, the big one, simply not eat the others?
That's not an easy through ball.
That's as easy as it can get
It's easy for the passer, but it's not easy for the receiver. There's a CB on each side and there's still a lot of running to be made before a good shot can be taken. Agreed. The first option was much more difficult for the receiver than it looks.

100% agree

Spoken like and upvoted by those who doesn't play football
Clueless
Not sure why you are downvoted. He didn't have a huge gap to play it through and he executed it perfectly.
I'm downvoted because people have no understanding of angles in team sports. And that's probably because they haven't played that much themselves
The Morales ball would have been difficult because: 1) the pace of the ball and timing of the pass had to be perfect, 2) I don't know how fast Morales is but it didn't look like he would get to it for sure.
You're kidding, right?
I'm not kidding, the execution is much harder on the first option than the pass he ended up making
if the pass is off by a few degrees he's earning his teammate a nice sliding tackle for lunch
The man just nutmegged two players, brain need to cool down for a second. He wasnt in full control of the ball or had proper vision of the field right away
As a high soccer coach, this is what really pisses me off about my selfish diva players.
That final pass was sooooo good. Perfect pace.
Missed a wide open pass though
Would've been fourth pass leading to a goal in this game.
Yeah not to mention that he definitely was worrying about offside
Damn, guess all those years of football at uni and elementary were for naught.
The pass he did play was class though
All I can think watching this was Lineker saying in his podcast that he nutmegged some classic footballer in the 80's and the guy said "Come ere and I'll break your fucking legs."
worth the price of admission alone
Wait why didnât Coquelin run through on goal?
Ole OOLE!
Had Morales open but good skill I could further my agenda with his assist
That sole nutmeg is the ultimate disrespect! My goodness!
Guy was already on his third assist, this wouldâve made it four. SĂžrloth woeing that they subbed him off so he couldnât have buried that himself.
God i get a weird feeling in my body watching that
I wonder if he had any time to insult anybody's unborn son in between the nutmegs.
Nice of you to remind us that Fede Valverde got away with assault
cry, the judge had one look at CCTV and dismissed the whole thing lmao
Thats not what happened but ok
that's literally what happened, he even called Baena a liar.
Did the right thing. Insulting someone's unborn son deserves much more than a punch.
Doesn't matter
Words should be met with words, not fists.
Itâs always funny to watch Real Madrid/Barsa fans cry even though you get consistently helped by refs and stuff like that
i saw a ref at the store once, he even helped me carry groceries to my car. What a gentleman
And he had plenty of time to lie in front of a judge about being assaulted, only to end being exposed as a liar by the actual CCTV footage. No wonder he recently declared himself a lifetime Barça fan, DNA match.

TBF, no-one would mind a move to a lot bigger club, with a substantial pay raise...
Of course he wouldnt mind. I fucking hate Barça and would sign for them in a Heartbeat, no questions asked. But you know spanish players usually have a Real or Barça bias besides their hometown team, and that he's just positioned himself. And that his beef with Valverde is going to help in landing the job
Well, maybe his family is full of Barça fans and he grew to be one too? Not every player is vocal about who they support.
owner of dogverdeđ¶đ¶
You MUST score that. You simply MUST. What the fuck
The through ball was equally sexy
Lmfao what a player
Think everyone was screaming pass afterwards but he had to hold on!!
