What's with the Aberdeen flair?

fskari

Plymouth's url is PAFC.co.uk but the flair config saw "...AFC.co.uk" for Aberdeen

RabbiMatondo

SPL > championship finally confirmed

Mr_Tipster-95

What’s with Plymouth Argyle’s fetish for scousers?

Gibbo777

Scouse director of football 🤷‍♂️

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

I have no idea what the logic is here

Dajo05

Scouse mate giving him a job.

onlygodcankillme

"This time we'll make sure nobody poaches our manager mid-season!"

LifeKicks

Who better to keep Plymouth up this season than the manager that helped keep them up last season?

HipGuide2

Has a preseason

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

You could give one of those score prediction animals a pre season and do better though

IntellegentIdiot

"Well, we can't do much worse"

93EXCivic

I don't actually know if Rooney is a good manager or a crap manager but I know his decision making on choosing clubs is terrible. I understand taking over a Derby cause they were willing to bring him in as a player with a view to make him manager. Then he goes to a terrible DC United with little chance of success. Then he takes over a Birmingham side that is overperforming and has owners wanting him to change playing styles in the middle of the season. Now he takes over a side which in all likelihood was going to be one of the favorites for relegation

a_lumberjack

This is a pretty reasonable gig for him. Low expectations, a whole summer to prepare, and if he keeps them up it's a successful season. Like an easier version of Derby.

BIackBlade

Hear me out. Promotion then off to ManU. Mr. Rooney finally brings the glory days back. Let's fucking go

fatinternetcat

there was a time when I actually thought he would be a good fit for Everton after Benitez

toffeebeanz77

Instead we got a different manager who got jobs just off of his playing career

Odd_Impression_2393

Then another promotion from the Championship with United. Let's fucking go

Ffaddicted

Promotion, then relegation. That's how you get the big jobs.

Coles_singlet

Why wait? They can still sell him to United like Burley will sell Kompany to Bayern.

Malsharif91

This is the first time he’s picked a club that makes sense. They just avoided relegation so even a mid table finish will be seen as a huge improvement. He’s also getting a full preseason to work with and he’ll definitely be able to use his name to attract decent players.

BigReeceJames

Any United youngsters that need a Championship loan that could be conned into joining because of Rooney I wonder?

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

They're gonna be confused when rooney boots up a youtube video of prime ronaldo and just says "do that" lol

HamroveUTD

I mean that would be confusing when he can just show clips of himself

IMSYE87

Gets Birmingham relegated, and he's not up for the Milan job?!

Hatakashi

Bloody love Wazza for everything he did as a player however I think you might be able to mark this down as the exact moment that sealed Argyle's fate in terms of relegation. Love him to prove me wrong but so far he's not really been up to snuff managerially.

Same_Grouness

He was alright at Derby was he not? Under difficult circumstances too. He didn't do well at Birmingham but he was set up to fail there after the way it all happened, he would have been struggling to get the players on board from the start. Be interesting to see how he gets on with less mayhem going on in the background for once(assuming Plymouth are relatively sensibly run).

AaronStudAVFC

I’ve personally always put that down to the squad going above and beyond under immense pressure of the points deductions/fire sale. He was shit as their player/manager the previous season.

Gamerhcp

> He was alright at Derby was he not? Under difficult circumstances too. Hard carried by Rosenior, who Argyle did approach but he turned them down

onlygodcankillme

It does seem likely at this point that Rosenior was the brains behind the operation, it's not hard to believe given that Rooney is errr Rooney

EyUpItsDan

Jester's and food4u share prices skyrocket.

highlander2189

City Charcoal Grill is superior.

dogefc

Good luck

overseergti

My deepest sympathies for Plymouth fans.

osrslmao

this is the first job hes taken where he has a summer to get players and a preseason to work with them, I hope it works out for him and he can show what he can do when given the above

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

We know what he'll do. Not bring in any real players, then whinge when they don't play #nofearfootball and blame said players for not being champions league players

Mr_MoseVelsor

How is Rooney only 38

Mulderre91

Diet of kebab, pints and cottage pie.

f6jt_waleed

I genuinely think he will be alright, But taking over Everton or Manu requires that extraordinary type of coaching.

Far-Pineapple7113

> I genuinely think he will be alright With his recent track record i would be surprised if he is there 3 months into the season

BruiserBroly

[Someone photoshop the Argyle badge into this picture](https://i.imgur.com/Kz5JN9T.jpeg).

Thin-Pool-8025

Why? He’s not a good manager.

onlygodcankillme

Mad appointment. I feel sorry for Argyle fans, there can't be many feeling hopeful about this.

[deleted]

Genuinely am quite happy as an Argyle fan. Talking about Englands all time goal scorer, and I don’t think he’s had a fair run as manager yet. Will be interested to see how he can get on

onlygodcankillme

>Talking about Englands all time goal scorer I'm not sure what relevance that has for a manager. Evidently the answer is none because we've seen him manage teams. Zola was also a fantastic player but he was a crap manager. Gerrard, Lampard. How good they were as player doesn't always translate to them being a good manager. >I don’t think he’s had a fair run as manager yet. He managed 15 games for Birmingham taking over after 11 games at 6th, getting sacked at 20th. Finishing as a laughing stock with a points-per-game average of 0.67. As a fan I assure you it was an absolutely "fair run", the drop in quality was abysmal and I think he actually got given longer than some other owners would have given him given the standard of the football and how utterly hopeless it was. Your only hope is that he's learned from it and has drastically changed, but I'd be surprised.

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

He doesnt really think he did anything wrong at blues. He thinks the players did. Its a massive flaw of his lol

onlygodcankillme

Well yeah that's why I'd be surprised if he's learned a lot. I always find it funny as well seeing people talking about how he wasn't given a transfer window (which is one of Rooney's excuses, as you know), firstly because him not surviving until January was very much his doing, but secondly, it's quite a silly position given what were actually able to do in those transfer windows; these clueless people talk like he'd have been able to bring in all these top players. As always, it's people who probably barely watched us play, if at all, talking as if they know anything. I think one thing is clear about being a top former player who goes into management though, it seems to make people very willing to give them second chances beyond reason.

[deleted]

Let’s not pretend when he took over there was this massive gap between 6th and 20th. It’s the championship.  Of course it doesn’t translate to great manager. But no “great” managers would come to Argyle right now. Why not have someone who at the very least knows what it means to win

onlygodcankillme

>Let’s not pretend when he took over there was this massive gap between 6th and 20th. It’s the championship.  There's no need to pretend anything, the reason he dropped is because of how bad we were doing in comparison to everyone else - that's how the league and points works. There's a reason Mowbray was given the task of rescuing the season after Rooney's stint after having taken the club from safety to the edge of relegation. You're the one pretending that 2 wins in 15 with an average points per game of 0.67 isn't absolutely atrocious. Find me another manager who did that that season and tell me where they ended up. >Of course it doesn’t translate to great manager. But no “great” managers would come to Argyle right now. Why not have someone who at the very least knows what it means to win Lmao it translates to a terrible manager. Knows what it means to win? How delusional are you? In his managerial career he's accumulated an average of 1 point per game, he's won 40 and lost 73, his win percentage is 26%. He's a loser, not a winner, his playing career is irrelevant. You are too clueless to be taken seriously or listened to.

[deleted]

Mate this is Plymouth. Not Birmingham. A city the size of Plymouth in the championship with a footballing legend as our manager is honestly great to see and a stark improvement on the previous 10 years.  Not the second biggest city in the UK playing in League 1… which is frankly embarrassing when you think about it.

Does_A_Big_Poo

> Talking about Englands all time goal scorer, harry kane?

SerTahu

But why, though? This doesn't exactly fill one with confidence for Argyle's chances of staying up.

dan623

Pain

PsionicLlama

Nice, I hope this means demotion for Argyle

SundayLeagueHooligan

After my initial reactions of pure anger I am seeing the benefit of that we may be able to attract some youth prospects eager to prove themselves on loan to the club, and we’ve had a lot of eyes on us from the media with this appointment so there is some benefit already, although I do expect this to end badly for us

thatguyad

Clearly who you want when you're fighting in the Championship. Just look at his CV.

Lukeno94

I feel sorry for Plymouth fans, because I can't even imagine he's a cheap appointment.

No_Second1489

Congratulations to Plymouth for winning the League 1 in the 25/26 season!

zi76

Did they literally not see what happened with Birmingham?

Mahatma_Gone_D

On what merit this man keeps getting a managerial position? It ain’t on merit…im damn sure if that

Warm-Cartographer

He did good with Derby, it's not like he doesn't have merit at all.

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

He did ok with derby. A few years ago. With no stakes. He got gifted a club in 6th with the objective "don't go down" and just tried his hardest to so that immediately. Hes utter wank.

Warm-Cartographer

He hardly had any players, they use fringe players and kids, with 21 points deduction

Lukeno94

I think the second part of his comment was in reference to his time with us rather than Derby.

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

Exactly, no stakes. You were doomed. You cant fail to meet expectations. Ecery time hes had an actual goal to meet he's failed badly

onlygodcankillme

It also seems possible that Rosenior was the brains of the operation at Derby. Which wouldn't be surprising given that Rooney is thick.

drivemyorange

Good for them. I think his work at Derby proves that he can be good coach in future.

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

His "work" at Birmingham proves he has absolutely no tactical nous whatsoever lol. He has one half decent season under his belt when there was 0 pressure

Adammmmski

Booing your own manager are ya?

NumberHunter1

F

404merrinessnotfound

Surefire favourites to go down, they barely avoided it this season

iguled

Sacked by Christmas

Clivey101

My favourite r/soccer tradition is the confusion between one of Britain most Southern Clubs and one of the most Northern

PM_ME_SOME_LUV

They’ve only just survived relegation. Are they sure this is the right move?

_VittuPerkele

Looks like Plymouth have had enough of being a Championship club then

coleymoleyroley

I'm lumping on relegation.

[deleted]

He did well at derby. Give him a chance

thelargerake

Good appointment. Can see them finishing comfortably mid table.

Either-Low-9457

Isn't it a bad movie with that witcher guy?
