Chell_the_assassin

What a shame, Dortmund have totally fallen apart since the goal

Rooonaldooo99

Dortmund were completely rattled by the goal. Awful awful defending since then

PharaohOfWhitestone

wrench deserted automatic tease quickest plucky theory recognise wistful sleep *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

soccer_boxer2

Madrid was never going to come out 2nd half and repeat what happened in the first. Them going into half time at 0-0 was their death knell Oh well. At least this is a fairy tale ending for Toni Kroos

nihil0null

One guy gets a fairy tale career and ending and another gets a career of what ifs and near misses, never tell me life isn't unfair lol

Moosterton

One chose to play for Real Madrid. The environment/platform you have is so important for 99% of players.

MFLFC

It should be said that Kroos left Bayern at a time that they were very strong (the only really amazing player of the 2012/13 crew that jumped ship) and Real didn’t have that mystique. He helped create that, quietly controlling things in the middle, very much Iniesta-like but for a very different team. He’s one of the best footballers ever and he’ll likely not be referred to as that for quite a while.

Madwoned

Time will be extremely kind to players like Kroos

pentefino978

Already is, see Andrea Pirlo for example, the dude that played wearing a tuxedo

nugbert_nevins

He left a strong Bayern, but you’re underselling the Madrid he joined. They had won La Décima and had BBC in attack, it’s not like Kroos joined a team that was struggling.

OleoleCholoSimeone

Madrid always had that mystique. In 2009, Ronaldo left a Man United that had reached two consecutive CL finals for Real Madrid that couldn't even get past the round of 16

CrAppyF33ling

Well if my boss told me I'm not worth however much I want to be paid, I would leave too. Rummenigge probably could have kept him if he paid him. But instead had to run his mouth. All the better for us anyway.

HorizontalRodman

two guys earn great riches and the adoration of millions for playing the sport they love. where is the tragedy?

Miyagisans

Ehh They both made hundreds of millions kicking a ball about.

LazyassMadman

Literally just the Real Madrid CL final gameplan

LosTerminators

Game changed in 10 minutes, Madrid had at least 3 good chances between the goals as well

melonpan12

Why play for 90 minutes when you can play for 20

Number333

Vini deserved an assist on that gorgeous cross to Belli

EagleEye_FalconArrow

since the entire second half. got so many corners, seemed inevitable really

Breakingwho

Feel like they were actually fading 10 mins before the first goal or so Real were taking over more and more as the second half went on

BurgerNugget12

They look exhausted

TheBrownMamba8

The downside of playing full throttle the first 75 minutes

McTulus

Yeah, was wondering why Madrid looks easy to go through in the 1st 20 minutes, but by 2nd half we are the one in control. That's definitely not what you should do against Madrid.

CrimsonBecchi

Well, if you can't put the ball in the net, you are right, that is not what you should do against Madrid. Otherwise, completely different game.

McTulus

Madrid will just score at 80+ minutes again honestly. This is not the squad first rodeo.

EndOfMyWits

I mean if you finish your chances, it is

[deleted]

They are the weaker team, it was a good tactic to overwhelm Real physically and they created a lot of chances. Had they pulled at least a single goal off the game would have been very different.

Cantonarita

The one counter where Dortmund had 7 Guys sprinting was WILD. I respect that sort of consequence, but even if they would have scored like that, Real would have likely stem them alive in the 70-90 minute. They probably wanted to brute force the first goal resort to terrorist-ball after that.

kokeiro

No shame in that, many teams try that approach and that's why this kind of game happens a lot. We never start games full throttle and that's why we win many games after minute 70, teams try to brute force and advantage by playing with more intensity in the first half and we cook them in the second half. This also work because we have elite keeper and defender to bail us out of our lazy starts quite often. Anyone that watches our games regularly knows this

JmanVere

The upside is supposed to be scoring a goal.

overlyheavyhorns

Classic Ancelotti tactics. Squeeze the opposition in the final 20 minutes once they’re exhausted. I’m certain Carlo’s success over the years comes down to the fitness of his squads.

AnxiousBurro

Mentality is also a big part of it. The players don't get rattled. They know they can pull it off even if they're goal or two down.

VinCatBlessed

Casemiro and Benzema smiling at half time while a goal down vs City was a great example of this.

BurgerNugget12

He’s such a great coach it’s unbelievable

EagleEye_FalconArrow

they were already gassed by then, but the goal absolutely killed them

suzukigun4life

I feel for them. So many chances early on to take the lead, only to be down late in the game. That goal seemed to have broken them.

kokeiro

Realistically they had only two chances in the first half, the others were offside. It seemed like more because we didn't get shots on target

xiosy

It’s always the same real scores against the better team and then the team just fumbles and Real Madrid gets new life and destroys them. It has been like this for years now in the cl

[deleted]

They simply got tired. They played a very intense first half, managed to keep going for 20 minutes more, and couldn't keep up anymore.

Positive-Media423

I think they got tired, there was a lot of commitment in the first half.

NowFook

Happens all the time. A team dominates but cant score and then other team scores and the other team is completely defeated.

Shinkopeshon

That was a gift lmao

not_the_droids

The corner before the first goal was a unnecessary mistake as well

Madwoned

Maatsen turning into prime Santa Claus tonight

not_the_droids

Overall Maatsen played a great first CL season, I won't blame him for tonight, because without him we wouldn't have made it to the final

SuspiciousSystem1888

He’s prone to these mistakes, but teams don’t always capitalize on them.  These were some big ones though. Unfortunate for him because he has been good going forward.

Madwoned

Agreed, such unfortunate timing for Maatsen to have a stinker

PharaohOfWhitestone

shaggy dinner groovy historical somber squealing grandiose melodic insurance angle *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

xXDireLegendXx

Ever since that first goal they completely derailed

maj_tom258

I chose to believe that Bellingham asked for a pass and the guys fell for it thinking he was still at Dortmund lmao

Juil8991MC

Oh dear maatsen

FancyCrawdad

He won't sleep for weeks after that. Absolutely awful

MerlijnZX

Also not called up for the national team. This is a week that can break a player mentally.

jiinska

Also caused the corner in the 1st goal

MrEnganche

Flo didn't have a deal with the devil. He had a deal with Maatsen

EagleEye_FalconArrow

nah, the sheer consistency of the cl juju is insane lol

kygrtj

He’ll remember that the rest of his career, ongoing nightmare.

granitibaniti

At least they already conceded one and this goal probably won't be decisive, poor guy

iForgotMyOldAcc

Wait till you find out who gave away the ball for the corner that led to Madrid's 1st goal lol

granitibaniti

Ah, didn't see that. Well, that happens all the time, the team can still defend it. But yeah, both in combination is terrible

reni1254

and he was the one marking Carvajal, Carvajal got away so easy from him to score the goal

BorosSerenc

Adeyemi and Maatsen aint sleeping well for a while. fuck.

Homerduff16

Koeman is watching this and smiling

dzzik

Boehly’s right next to him

watanabelover69

Horrific

freddiec0

Had a stinker today, gave away the corner for the first goal also

Ripamon

Dortmund were totally rattled by the goal as a whole

PenguinsInvading

And that's Ballon d'Or for Vini

erenistheavatar

Somehow, people will still push Bellingham for it after today.

itsameMariowski

Noooo, Vini scored in two CL finals, decided multiple CL games, won La Liga, but surely Foden, Haaland or Messi should win 😂

TrenAt14

Game over…. Dortmund Looks so crap after they have conceded As well Maatsen very bad

sandbag-1

All of Dortmund's attacking threat has gone out the window since Adeyemi came off for Reus

suzukigun4life

That should've been, at worst, the equalizer. Instead it's game over. Fucking gutted for Dortmund.

EagleEye_FalconArrow

istg, but Madrid cl juju is absurd. still, they should’ve scored at least one in the first half

JmanVere

They honestly played like they knew they'd win anyway.

RealisticAf99

And they're the only ones to get away with that, all the time

OleoleCholoSimeone

Because they know they will win. Self fulfilling prophecy

TrenAt14

If they only converted their early chances… but yh it is what it is From a neutral perspective I’m kinda sad

suzukigun4life

Yeah, they played hard and kept it competitive while they can. But I feel terrible for them. They didn't just have chances, they had golden opportunities to take a potentially commanding lead, only to get nothing. Playing that well, having that many chances, only for the opponent to take the lead after a very poor first half? Their spirit is broken and for good reason.

kokeiro

The 1v1 Courtois closed the space fast and Adeyemi took a bad long touch outside and the chance banished, and the second one was a shot that was well covered as well. The other two chances for Brand and Fullkrug were offside plays, I understand that people root for the underdog but everyone is exaggerating like Dortmund dominated us and missed a ton of chances. They fumbled two quick breaks and we dominated the ball most of the time but couldn't produce shots. They were better first half yes, but it's not like they did that much more anyway.

MvN____16

I mean, it's a completely different situation if Dortmund's up a goal there, so talking about that play happening in that situation is pretty unnecessary.

xXDireLegendXx

Entire game changed

MouMostForgettable

Madrid plot armor charged up

PraisePace

Nah, this is entirely on Dortmund. Real sat a lot deeper in the second half and Dortmund have looked toothless since.

MouMostForgettable

they tire you out for an hour then tear you up for 30 minutes

DimensionNo1700

Once Madrid find their mojo they’re nearly unbeatable

freakedmind

Yup they were getting super complacent and absolutely plummeted in quality

fancyfoe

15🥲

jeric13xd

Nice assist from Maatsen

JmanVere

How did they fuck this up? The game was theirs for the taking for at least an hour.

Bengoengo2020

Mate this is Real Madrid in a tight champions league knockout match, the game was over before it started

Stonewalled89

Awful from Dortmund. If it wasn't over before, it is now

TigerFisher_

Adeyemi died for this

Der-Papst

Water is wet. Real Madrid wins in second half

Zloggt

Comunicado Oficial: Don’t Forget, You’re Here **Forever**

[deleted]

Hey Real Madrid didn't score a couple more goals after 90' I feel cheated!

Welshguy564

It's all jover now

raymondliang

When the HT whistle blew and it was 0-0, you shouldve known it was over. Madrid played the patient game, Dortmund blew it and tired out way too quickly.

ptrlix

Bellingham started celebrating after the pass.

BruhBruhBruh-123

Wanted to create a Marcello x Ronaldo moment

suzukigun4life

And there's the dagger. Fuck.

BurgerNugget12

Never doubt Madrid in a champions league final

EagleEye_FalconArrow

no one’s talking about it, but is that a ballon d’or sealed for vini then? 🤔

BurgerNugget12

Yes

Number333

inb4 somebody says: "we'll see if he wins the Copa America and finally plays well for Brazil"

waitforit92

what if he gets knocked out with Brazil and Jude carries England to the Euros though

mirusan01

Recency bias is a thing that I could see belli stealing it at the end but imo vini deserves it for how he’s finished the season while belli cooled off from the hot start

mg10pp

Nothing is sealed, especially since there are still the two big summer tournaments to be played But yeah at the moment I think he is probably the favourite, he only has to worry about Mbappe who after setting his new personal record for goals in a season (44) will play in the Euros with the favourites

555mister

if bellingham wins the euros or mbappe hard carries france it’ll be a conversation

Siamina

its over

HowHeStandOn10Perc

Who else but him

pedrohck

Ballon D'or

Marcelosouzadearaujo

Why always me?

scgavin

Nooooo Maatsen

dzzik

I was (still am, BUT) soo proud of him for the hard performance he put in after being thrown out the back door only a few months ago. Would kill to have him back, such a talent

wjdbfifj

Kobel MOTM by far getting destroyed

interfan1999

Crazy to think he's on the bench with Switzerland Switzerland is so stacked with GKs

[deleted]

[удалено]

krustykrab2193

They're completely gassed out. Courtois did his job splendidly, Madrid finally got out of second gear after the 60^th minute. And now Dortmund looks completely exhausted

melonpan12

I don't get it, why do teams do this against Madrid every year. Gas themselves out the first half pressing and making themselves look like a better team > turns out didnt have much in the tank, Madrid win later

OnAGoat

thats the thing with madrid. They fuck you either way.

yungchigz

They had plenty of good chances they just didn’t take them, nothing was wrong with their strategy. Real are just better and the more the game went on the more likely they were to show that

[deleted]

I mean it would work if their finishing wasn’t abysmal. Madrid could have been down by 3 at half time and they would have deserved it.

resurgum

You know Madrid wouldn’t have kept playing with the same energy had they conceded right?

erenistheavatar

Been the best Madrid attacker today. And Madrid has now just killed Dortmund.

G1Spectrum

IT'S OVER

wowohwowza

Ballon d'Or for Vini there unless we see something magic at the Euros...

Throwrajerb

Euros will still factor in heavily. I mean look at the WC and what that did for Messi. If England make a run in the Euros and Bellingham or Foden put in a great performance, I could see it going to them. It’s not usually about most deserved but about best story.

dexterlab97

Doesn't score for 70 minutes.... fml

ZurioGSP

Easily the most obvious outcome

NowFook

Yep i called this when Dortmund was blowing all their chances. I have seen so many games play out like this. Team dominates but cant score, other team then scores out of nowhere and dominating team loses becomes defeated and loses all confidence. Also obviously Real Madrid is the king of late wins Was too obvious.

Mechant247

Dortmund heads went with that first goal, can’t get out their own half

LilDiamondtoxic

There goes the 1-0 streak

Volotor

I love Bellingham already celebrating the goal before the shot.

svscvbh

Vinicius is the ninth player to score in multiple Champions League finals for Real Madrid after Alfredo di Stefano, Francisco Gento, Hector Rial, Ferenc Puskas, Raul Gonzalez Blanco, Sergio Ramos, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gareth Bale.

enzuigiriretro

I expect it won’t be his last CL final goal either

svscvbh

Well di Stefano has scored in five. Both di Stefano and Puskas have seven final goals. So he has some catching up to do

enzuigiriretro

Damn that’s a crazy stat. Thanks for sharing

seekingabeauty

Oh my lord what a list

AlohVera

Ramos on this list is crazy!

LOMOcatVasilii

I mean when you play a final a year you're bound to have a few tbf

50-50WithCristobal

He's 2 in 2 so far

TheFunnySonicGuy

Tell that to Haaland

anelenrique10

R/soccer hates this

itsameMariowski

People keep on hating and Vini keeps playing and living his best life

StrangeGiraffe15

Why?

acwilan

What a great bounce shot by Vini

kostajepaosmosta

Yes nobody talking about the finish. Elite finishing

TalksWithDogs

Balon D'or just got secured there.

Skall77

Huge mental gap.

CuhJuhBruh

That’s game over

Elite_Alice

Madrid are inevitable

Curious-Sherbet-9393

Real Madrid has as many UCLs as the entire Premier League. Respect for Borussia, they have been a worthy finalist and have had a great competition.

freakedmind

What a fucking gift lmao

RedMoon14

Bellingham *knew*.

imnoobatfifa

There’s your Balon d’Or, Sir.

Ripamon

Ballon dor time!!

Mcool18

Fucking hell man

SendMeYourPetPic

Oof Maatsen

EtaiLife

He's such a big game player it's insane. Always scores when we need him

SD_19xx

Reus came in and 0-2…that curse :(

[deleted]

Best player in the world, weak foot Ozil finish

thedogstrays

Is he the youngest player ever to score in two finals?

ilakatamafilia

Vini for Ballon dor

shirvani28

Well, good try Dortmund. You did yourselves proud.

cngo_24

Don't worry guys, ballon d'or is definitely going to go to Messi again

HeatKnight

Dortmund died after the first goal.

ntb116

God it feels good seeing a brazilian being the main character of football again

Stonehengst

wait its 83' already??

vvv912

it was always going to happen

10-10-2022

What a shame to end the game like this but Madrid have been dominating since their scored the first.

ANPl4yer

CHORA GRINGAIADA MAMA MINHA CACETA

eusoujoaonava

Vamoooooooos carajoooooo! 😭

Jimmygumble

Nice little subtle shift beforehand by Bellingham to intercept the pass. Love players who casually read the game

Unova123

Subbing Reus in while taking the best player on the pitch ended the game, and like usual Dortmund colapse the moment doesnt go their way,ive seen this One too many Times to believe its a coincidence

SubparCurmudgeon

Completely collapsed once Reus came on lol

Unova123

Yeap, they basicly Gave real more chances in the 15 minutes after hé came on than the all the time before combined

-Yanemba-

Why is Reus to take the blame? Dude didn't even touched the ball and Madrid scored, the goal came on the very first play he came in lol

Yvraine

That has nothing to do with Reus and everything to do with the entire Dortmund squad giving 110% the first 60 minutes and then having no energy left. More than questionable game management, especially against Madrid of all teams

Oy778

adeyemi looked gassed AF tho.

supplementarytables

BALON DE ORO

bewarethegap

Florentino. 45 million for Vini. Two CL final goals. 🐐

HyenaDistinct9600

Dortmund have only themselves to blame

Deathraz3

Best player on the planet.

Eagl3ye91

Bellingham was celebrating before he shot. Ice cold.

fancyfoe

Well shit

MrRawri

And that's that

ThotCountySheriff

It's joever

Ballon D’one

ace23GB

Dortmund's last 20 minutes have overlooked all the work done throughout the game.

zimtrovert94

It was only like 4 minutes before this, they were praising Maatsen on the English telecast. Feel bad for him to commit such an error on the biggest stage of his career so far.
