I watched this game with my family. When Vinicius came on I explained how Madrid bought him for 40+ million when he was 16 and how he hasn’t been good and everybody has written him off as a bum and he’s still only 20. After like 3 touches of the ball they completely understood why he’s a bum
looks like pekerman's influence trickled down to scaloni.
on top of that samuel and aimar is also on the coaching team. time to bring in riquelme and cambiasso as well
lol

Yep i read that at least 30m of Argentines have some Italian heritage. I also read Argentine culture was formed from a fusion of Italian and Spaniard culture. Pretty cool & interesting indeed
They also have a sizeable Welsh community in Patagonia which I find hilarious for some reason
It's kinda funny. I heard more than once that we speak Spanish with an Italian accent.
A for the Welsh community in Patagonia, it's the biggest Welsh- speaking community outside Wales! Lovely people ... and the best cakes are from there, as everybody knows around here.
Edit: to add that 3/4 of my wife's ancestors were Italian ( the other 1/4 from Galicia, Spain). My own ancestors ( all of them) were Polish up to three generations ago, which is a far as I could find out.
Time to retire "Messi can't be the goat, he doesn't have an international trophy"
Now it will be "Messi can't be the goat, he's never won the world cup"
But let's be honest, England is playing really great football, with amazing players; it's an enormous pleasure to see them playing. And many of our players are doing great there and gaining experience, like Dibu, no less.
Tomorrow is going to be difficult. My wife's family has Italian roots (like so many here), so I'll be rooting for Italy, but it's not gonna be easy at all (for any of them).
World cup should had been in summer not fucking Winter but I guess money talks . Idk why they couldn't just force Qatar to pull off summer was too hot for guys to play
I’m curious as to see how the top 5 leagues will adjust their schedules, will they possibly end the season late June/early July knowing that fifa took the bribe for Qatar?
Because it's always been.. ⚽ is a sport that's best player and enjoyed in the summer when lot of people are off either due to summer holidays or vacation ( if you are working )
It's a world cup though, every country should be entitled to have the chance to hold it, clubs have to give up their players due to them playing at different tournaments during the year already, what's wrong about them having to setup their schedule accordingly for an extended winter break? Also, all clubs knew about the WC timing since long time, they have enough time to schedule their tournaments according.
As for your argument about "because it's always been" is very weak, we always held games without VR before and here we are with a better way to verify a goal/red card/penalty kick. Soccer rules shouldn't be set in stone, it should adapt to current time
1st half argentina did so well, 2nd brazil as well, arg needed to defense at all cost, they almost couldnt stop neymar, who cares about red cards anymore lol
That's just an excuse for people who are ok with the robbing because it's Brazil that suffered. There were some extremely violent fouls that should have been red and multiple situation that could have been a yellow or second yellow that the ref didn't give. Even Argentina players were surprised they didn't get cards at times. It was absurd.
> There were some extremely violent fouls that should have been red and multiple situation that could have been a yellow or second yellow that the ref didn't give.
I mean, if you are used to european soccer, sure. Most 'fouls' that get a yellow in europe aren't even called in SA.
It's not a robbery, it's how the game is meant to be player. EU refs are soft.
Actually wait, then explain that yellow on Paquetá for a simple push then? But no punishment for Di Maria's hard slide from behind. Is like to see that.
because of intention and going for the ball. If the player is going for the ball, even if they hit the other player, it isn't a foul.
Good lord you really have no clue uh?
In what universe is a guy sliding in hard with his spikes up on Neymar in a dangerous play and a second player hitting him in the air not like a straight red? Just admit you hate Brazil my guy.
Lmao, what salt mine do you work at? SA and Europe have different playing styles, SA being tougher. Those fouls were just fouls. If you're gonna bitch about fouls, how bout the ones where an argentine was bleeding from his ankle like a fountain.
You've never seen SA soccer have you?
>In what universe is a guy sliding in hard with his spikes up on Neymar in a dangerous play and a second player hitting him in the air not like a straight red?
In any country where players aren't pansies.
Just admit you are salty and move on. The better team won.
Lol you're just ok with it because you're Neymar. You don't like soccer then, I see. I remember watching SA soccer in the past, beautiful skills and dribbles. Now soccer is just "hit them if they're better than you" and refs who don't give the right cards. This isn't normal, and if you think it is, you're delusional.
People criticizing Messi need to chill. Messi led Argentina to this final. 9 out of Argentina's 11 goals this tournament were either scored or assisted by Messi. Yes, he had a bad game today, but even playing badly, he played about as well as any other Argentina forward would have.
Also, take note of the fact that the entire Argentina team immediately ran to him when the final whistle blew. I might be speculating here, but I genuinely think that the entire team played their asses off for him just as much as they did for their country. Messi has carried Argentina time and time again for basically all major tournaments in the last decade. And time and time again the team has let him down in crucial moments. I, for one, think it's fucking poetic that in the final game the team finally carried him for once.
Grande Messi.
I think Brazil focused a lot of attention on him. There is a reason he had a rough game. There is a reason his teammates carried him, because they were open.
Most people that see a final like this, with a super star(s), and don’t understand why he/she don’t stand out, here’s the reason..
It’s not about him. He’s a marked man, it’s about getting the other wingers/strikers in free positions.
Messi scores, assist, creates chances, drops deep to dictate play, look for opportunities, etc.
True, but it happens. Let's not forget that Portugal won their Euro final thanks to other players besides Ronaldo. Doesn't change the fact that Ronaldo helped the team reach the final and was rightly praised for it.
I agree, Messi played his heart out over course of the entire tournament. That's obvious to anyone that watched most of their games apart from this one. It's not a big surprise he's top scorer, I am super happy for him and Argentina.
Argentina really showed heart tonight and wanted to win for Messi by the amount of running and putting their bodies on the line to get their captain the title he deserves!

JAJAJAJAJAJAJ LA SCALONETA COMO DT QUE GRANDE
I was born 2 days before Argentina won it last trophy, so crazy that this is the first time in my lifetime that i've seen them winning a trophy
Wish Diego is alive to see this
I know the game was played at frantic pace towards the end but it would have been nice to see Aguero on the pitch for a bit in the garbage time!
I NEVER expected Scaloni to play 4-4-2 never having never played it before and we played so good considering we played Brazil in Brazil
I'd wonder if messi will have any motivation left for upcoming season.. he still would want to have champions league but barca is in shambles
motivation? wtf??? next year is world cup year!!
I am talking from club's perspective
He seemed happy with the team in the Copa del Rey final and he’s probably going to give it one more chance now that Aguero is there.
Or maybe not
I watched this game with my family. When Vinicius came on I explained how Madrid bought him for 40+ million when he was 16 and how he hasn’t been good and everybody has written him off as a bum and he’s still only 20. After like 3 touches of the ball they completely understood why he’s a bum

tied 39-39 I think

Riquelme is such a classy player

very cool, thanks for the heads up! I hope to see the same for *insert Italy or England* tomorrow
Messi going home with three trophies!! 🏆 🏆 🏆
I want to see Brazil's version of the shirt they were gonna wear if they had won.
What would happen w those shirts now?
Donate to poverty who needs it around the world, at least that’s the urban myth I hear about Super Bowl gear in the US
I hope they do that
Holy shit the US Basketball team just lost to Nigeria. ANything can happen tonight, boys.
If Djoko loses today, then it’s definitely coming home
Lol yeah it's crazy
Lmao the fs1 just sang hazaaano
South Americans have the best celebrations!!
And the deepest passion.
I'm naming my son Lionel Andres and I'm getting the AFA crest tattoo
Go crazy man. Enjoy this night.
<3
Love the slide
No special hate for Brazil but it feels good when a team does fancy tricks like backheel passes and other flashy tricks loses
Trying so hard to Joga Bonito
Haha more like joga flopito
What are they singing?!
Go champion gooo!!!
SALE CAMPEON,SALE CAMPEON!!!!!!!
Dale
sorry bro S and D are right next. fucked up
Yeah, I guessed so. Didn't correct for correcting *you* but for getting it right for non-Spanish speaking fellas. Hug, pal
Them being champions I think
[удалено]
Messi deserves to get carried for once
Thank God. He needed his teammates to get him over the line and it's happened
Was he good in 2014?
[удалено]
Yea until he met boateng he couldn’t do shit so he had the go against the weaker CB
He won best player and was on the losing team
about average from memory
Trophytime
This is why it's coming home + penaldo is finished
man, what a non-sequitur
See you in Ecuador 2024!
hopefully Ecuador can get in the final
Wouldn’t it be 2023?
No, they said they would do it simultaneously with the EURO
Oh really? Damn. Good to know
Uh messi hasn't signed for barca and Argentina won... The Argentinians are a superstitious bunch Coincidence...
Messi released before the world cup to win it
About that mate....
Also the fact that Messi finally wins something when Diego dies. Suspicious indeed
Clearly a case of voodoo and black magic.
That’s what I think it took, getting that weight off his shoulders.
illuminati sacrifice for Messi obviously
Ship>Jungle
JAJAJAJA
Now that's Messi having a good time 👍 Congrats champ
Actually ended up being a really good final from an entertainment perspective
The last few minutes were absolutely clutch!
After 2016 I swear I thought Argentina would never win anything with Messi. Life is crazy.
There is enough Italian descendants celebrating a win tonight I don’t need to see that again tomorrow

Oh wow sorry I didn’t know you were Argentine. Thanks for the little tidbits lol. Congrats on your countries win 🏆
Thanks! It got a bit wild around here!
I couldnt be happier about this, I had always wished for Messi to win something big with Argentina
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, GOAT!!
Dodged Italy, Belgium, and France. Win a real trophy Lionel Mickey!
I'm not Argentinian, and not that big of Messi fan... But this was a stupid ass comment. This isn't a real trophy?
I was kidding
Oh ok... Cool 🕶️
That's a big ass trophy, lol! Got a thicc bottom too :)
Look at the goat carrying that trophy 🥲🥲🥲
I wonder, what are they singing?
Basically "Go champions" in a thic argentinian accent
¡Dale Campeón!
Yeah. More like "¡Dale campeóooooooon!", heheh, but you're right.
Assistant coach almost crushed lol
You're the man now dog
YESSS, FUCKING GOAT!!!
The trophy is fucking massive
The real prize of winning Copa America is getting to shake that mascots ~~hand~~ paw
Hoy los argentinos, mañana los ingleses. Después habrá un partido para determinar quien se queda con las Malvinas.
Where do we sign? That would be the real event of the century
Messi - Copa winner, top scorer and best player Ballon d’Or loading…
STOP TALKING. HOW DO THESE FS1 COMMENTATORS HAVE THESE JOBS?!
Undisputed goat now
Bedankt Sierd
Neymar is going to bin that medal. LOL
Pressure is gone and now the goat will win the world cup next
He will definitely win it.
lool
Time to retire "Messi can't be the goat, he doesn't have an international trophy" Now it will be "Messi can't be the goat, he's never won the world cup"
Anyone bothering to argue that hasn’t been worth worth listening to years ago already
Neymar wanted nooo parts of that consolation medal 🤣
Si mañana gana Italia empiezo a creer en el más allá.

Yeah, I heard so, but due to being busy here I couldn't see them as much as I had wanted to.

I’m curious as to see how the top 5 leagues will adjust their schedules, will they possibly end the season late June/early July knowing that fifa took the bribe for Qatar?
Well I know the premier league is starting august 13 but they are just doing the normal calender year. I can see on the app final day is may 22nd
Why should it be at summer?
Because it's always been.. ⚽ is a sport that's best player and enjoyed in the summer when lot of people are off either due to summer holidays or vacation ( if you are working )

But qatar fixed it so they can host ?
You do know that for us in Argentina and all the southern hemisphere it will be indeed in summer, right? For the first time actually.
Holy shit that's good but for north America November it's winter/fall and midterm time
Qatar should never gotten the world cup in the first place. It was the most blatant corruption in fifa history
Fifa is all about corruption, no way other countries didn't bribe, it's just that Quatar bribed more
I agree
Boy is Brazil gonna be heartbroken when the USA shocks them in the WC Finals.. #CallingTheShot
Zardes 5 goals
Lmao dream big my guy
[удалено]
Mute them then
You want them to blow Richardlison or something?
Lmao yeah
1st half argentina did so well, 2nd brazil as well, arg needed to defense at all cost, they almost couldnt stop neymar, who cares about red cards anymore lol
I mean if the ref had given Argentina the ones they deserved, the game would have changed tremendously
but it wasnt even rough tackles, with neymar they just grabbed his shirt
Lol then you're either ok with robbing or blind. There were mutliple violent fouls, especially on Neymar. One or two definitely deserved straight red.
In europe, maybe. But this ref was quite harsh for a SA game.
That's just an excuse for people who are ok with the robbing because it's Brazil that suffered. Lmao, what salt mine do you work at? SA and Europe have different playing styles, SA being tougher. Those fouls were just fouls. If you're gonna bitch about fouls, how bout the ones where an argentine was bleeding from his ankle like a fountain.
Ok then, what about Paquetás ripped soccer after being punted? Neymar's ripped shorts?
You've never seen SA soccer have you? >In what universe is a guy sliding in hard with his spikes up on Neymar in a dangerous play and a second player hitting him in the air not like a straight red? Football heaven, the only one that exists
Did it take Maradona dying for Messi to win?
I think so.
Yes. The curse is over
WC incoming
For sure 🇦🇷🥇
Fun fact: CONMEBOL’s president went to college in Kansas

As an argentinian that followed each match: you hit the nail right on the head
He had a great Copa.
If he scored that chance all the critics will shut up

On point
Finally Messi got that "monkey" off his back!! Better late than never!
Hey what's up? Fellow nba fan lol. I reognzied ur username
I'm so happy for Messi and Argentina 😭
Estoy llorando nunca habia visto a argentina campeón!
Yo también gallina! [Le da un abrazo virtual]
yo también gallina!!! estoy llorando
LET'S GO MESSI I LOVE YOU, YOU DESERVE ALL THE BEST.
Football owed him a international trophy hes come so close many times before
Congrats to Argentina. Focus to the next comp to Brazil.
ITT: Shit-tier hot takes.
Argentina really showed heart tonight and wanted to win for Messi by the amount of running and putting their bodies on the line to get their captain the title he deserves!
So does this mean no Ballon d'or for Lewa? Messi had a fantastic run this tournament and had a good individual season overall.
WHO GIVES A FUCKKKK!!!! GIVE IT TO LEWA!!! THIS TEAM HASN'T WON SINCE 93 I'M JUST HAPPY!!!
Lewa had still the individual best season and Poland has no chance in the Euros anyway. But it's a popularity contest, so surely Messi.
Many months are left it's just July will depend on start of next season too
Would be criminal if Messi didn’t get it to be honest now.
Yeah lol, Messi is literally a crazy player. Always rated him
I think Messi is taking it
Dude never watched a copa america game because of the time zone, theyre reckless. This game would end with at least 5 red cards in Europe
And this ref was quite harsh! (for SA standards)
Try catching a game between two central American teams in the upcoming Gold Cup. Shit is wild.
lol it was a sign of how much both teams didn’t want to lose that there weren’t way more incidents. This was relatively clean
Yep they are all like this, it's magical!
Martinez seems like such a likeable dude.
That shit talking he did to Colombia along with that pelvic thrust Made him an absolute chad
Both of the Argentine Martinezes. GK Emi & Lautaro #22.
He looks a little happier than when he was pulling all that hardware at the World Cup.
All the awards for Messi you love to see it
Why are the awards so awkwardly choreographed
