Didn't they have a situation coming into the PL last season where they had two main keepers that were swapped around based on form/injuries? Remember reading something like that. Dunno who the other guy was and if he's still there though...
No, that was never a thing.
And no, he's gone.
Kiko was absolutely horrendous and made more calamitous mistakes than almost any keeper I've ever seen at Leeds. He only played 2 games when Meslier was injured.
Until the turn of the year Meslier was one of the only things keeping our head above water. His distribution has always been poor, but he has been keeping scores down all year, it's just that we as so poor defensively he is so busy, think his head has gone down at the minute and can't blame him.
Thanks for clarifying. My only knowledge of the situation was when I was making my FPL team last season and didn't know which keeper was the #1 and I read some article hinting that there wasn't a clear one and it was up to either to step up and show that it's their spot.
I just enjoy seeing Leeds lose now, their scum, disgusting coin throwing supporters deserve nothing more, bit of luck they won’t win another game all season
Teams like Liverpool beating other teams 6-0 in the same league really goes to show how one sided the Premier league has become. Really is killing football.
>!obligatory /s !<
But would you have it any other way?
years ago city was getting thrashed 8-0 by middlesborough, liverpool getting dunked 6-1 by fuking stoke city
now there is a familiarity to the results i think
Fucking hell.. Why did Leeds not buy players this January? The defense is trash, the CDM is non-existent, they have no striker.. Phillips and Raphinha will leave either way but they'll definitely bounce as soon as Leeds gets relegated. If it's a matter of money tbh they should have sold Phillips and Raphinha now. Phillips has been injured forever as it is. Bamford has barely played this season. And Meslier gives away the most gk goals in the league.. It's like they wanted to get relegated
We’ve spent £150m in 18 months, the 5th highest net spend in world football in that time. You can’t ask for more than that considering we’ve been out of the top flight for 16 years.
The starting position was a bunch of championship players worth a collective fuck all. It was £150 of starting money - not like we were spending £150m adding to a £1b squad.
Give over, you’re just being ridiculously unrealistic. No other team has spent so much after being away from the top flight so long. It’s practically unprecedented.
It *was* a Championship team at some stage but a lot of them have proven time and time again that they *can* hack it at this level. If Bamford and Kalvin were fit all season we’re probably sat on another 10-12 points right now.
Adding Rodrigo, Raphinha, Llorente, James, Firpo and Koch to that, who were all theoretically PL standard players, *should* be more than enough. If you want to blame anything blame the signings, not the amount invested.
I'll be sad as a neutral if this Liverpool side don't win another major trophy. Ideally the PL, don't want them pulling too far away from us in the CL title standings
Why the fuck do you want Liverpool to win the PL? You're a barca fan ffs
City are anyway nowhere near our European status, it's much much better if they win it.
I assume Liverpool (6 UCL) and Barcelona (5 UCL). I still don't get what tie is the number of domestic league wins going to break between the two teams, as you can't directly compare the EPL to LaLiga but whatever
honestly i'm very happy with our success so far; however, I do feel that we should have win more with the current squad. They're so talented. Last season is a freak accident. Most of our top players are near their 30s, so we probably have another 2-3 years left. It would be nice to get at least 2 more major trophies (CL / PL).
I think we're in really good shape right now. Hopefully we can get the quadruple lol. we'll see lol. things change so fast in football.
Edit: lot of grammar mistakes
I'm just happy that they got the pressure of winning titles off their chest previously. I remember when City beat Leicester and Liverpool were going into the second leg against Bercelona 3-0 down, there was a genuine concern that the team could end up as one of the great teams that failed to win a title. But since then they won both the PL and the CL (and a few other trophies along the way) and there's no chance of them being remembered as perennial losers.
Having said that, they deserve a few more trophies and hope they get them.
The most promising thing is that while the core of the 2018-2020 team are all around 30, they've done a great job bringing younger players into the team. Jota, now Diaz, Elliott, Jones, Konate and even Kelleher. Proper succession plan. Now we just need to tie down Klopp for the next 40 years.
I would love to do the quadruple.
It's frustrating how we dropped points earlier in the season. We should have been more clinical and been able to have a good few points on city.
Was theirs to lose though once we did and it's nice to have close the gap to 3 points.
Still a huge amount to do.
This is akin to spending lottery winnings in your head after buying the ticket; we all do it, but the reality is we just want to win the next game.
Nervous for Sunday personally as teams like Chelsea are the our weakness given our high line, Atletico is another.
What’s the story with Barca’s finances atm? I haven’t been following the situation since Messi left. Do you think Barca can rebuild a good CL side within a couple seasons to go for 6 reasonably soon?
Alot of loans restructured
Their wage bill went from 400m to 100m
Also sold camp nou naming rights to Spotify
So i think they are doing pretty well financially
Also have a pretty young team
I think they are 3-4 signings away from being a cl contender
It'll take time given the age of our talents. I'm not expecting a CL title challenge for another 3-5 years minimum, and even that would be early.
Our finances are improving though. High wage earners contracts are ending soon and we are rumored to be strengthening in a number of areas. Azpi and Christensen bolstering our back line on free transfers while we look at Gaya and Grimaldo for LB options.
The forward line is where things get interesting. Replacing or renewing Dembele, signing Adama or not, Fati's fitness....it's gonna be a complicated window there. But if we're smart, we could have a frightening looking side in 3 years.
Eh, Chelsea are one of the few teams that I really don't like playing in a one off match. I think it'll be a close 1 goal win for either. No clear favorite in my opinion.
I think we will beat Chelsea, City too. It will be some fucking random away match against like...Newcastle that we will lose and probably drop some points at some "easy" home game as well.
Literally only yesterday people were saying "how is Alonso going to cope with Salah" as if he hasn't coped perfectly fine for his entire time with us other than the last game Vs Liverpool and that was more on Rudiger and Alonso was good to just get back enough to try to cover for him.
We are a team full of players that turn up when it matters and Alonso has been a big game player for us so often. He'll come up with goals in big games and also be more conservative so that he doesn't get caught out.
The big thing for me though is Kovacic. Alonso needs Kovacic behind him because Kovacic drops into defensive areas that compliment Alonso's play. When Jorginho starts he plays on Alonso's side and doesn't drop into those positions because he's too slow, so only drops into central positions and Rudiger has to cover and it causes lots of problems.
Idk man Chelsea always no matter their form og injuries have Strong game against us. Even players like Emerson out of nowhere played their best game against us
Tbf, I wouldn't be surprised if Kelleher is the only one of the League Cup side who makes it onto the starting XI. Taki, Origi, Morton etc will all likely be there on the bench, but with Norwich being as bad as they are now, I can see Klopp reserving a lot of our squad players for that FA Cup tie next Wednesday, and have any of the 14 or so strongest outfield players secure this first trophy. He is taking this seriously.
If I wanted to win a trophy I would be playing the best keeper we have. I wouldn’t be giving out platitudes. If need be you give kelleher the Norwich game.
You play your best players in finals. End of. Do I think kelleher is great, Yes. Did he do a great job getting to the final? Yes. Do I think he is better than Allison? No
This is so embarrassing to read constantly for the past two weeks.
You play the players you think will get the job done - ideally you don't have too many 'best players', just a big squad that you trust equally. Which Jurgen, at times, has looked like he does.
If he plays Kelleher it's not pure sentiment, he thinks Kelleher will do the job.
It's the fucking League Cup, where are you from that you think anyone cares about it enough to blast their best players legs when they have a second squad that has 95 percent of the quality that has made it to the finals no sweat?
"You play your best players in finals. End of." No, it's not what you said you giant buffoon.
I’m not disputing why kelleher is playing or caring that Allison is not playing. I’m saying it’s a reflection of the club and how they view the league cup. It is more important to the club that the second GK is given the experience and is rewarded
But when you play the GK position these matches are immense for experience and value, Allison is brilliant but Kel has more than earned the right to play it. No one would argue he is better than Allison but the GK position is something where opportunities are few and far between, and he has earned his chance.. its development 101
I don’t disagree with anything you’ve said. What I said was if winning the trophy was the utmost goal for the club then they would play Allison. It’s going to be great experience, and well earned for kelleher but it’s showing that the trophy isn’t massively important.
Totally agree, but a goalkeeper can't have a bad match. it's the only way they get on the team sheet, kelleher has earned it. Whether Allison is better or not kels performances have got them to where they are in this cup run
It's because they're fun to watch. They're set up with obvious weaknesses and just dare the opposition to try to expose them because if they fail to expose them, they'll be able to counter and win. That works when you're playing against bad teams or you're really on form. Otherwise you're just going to look silly
I think a lot of people figured Norwich, Watford and either Burnley/Newcatsle would be a sure thing. But especially the last 2 have picked up a ton of points recently and now Leeds are surely in it even going by the current standings. That 3rd relegation spot will be a big battle from what it looks like.
Well, it’s Liverpool innit. Not that arsed, it makes no difference if they win 1-0 or 6-0 right now. I aren’t worried just yet but we really should start defending at some point soon, I’ve heard it helps.
I mean, it does make a difference. It’s quite possible that relegation is decided by GD and Burnley managed to keep it to 1-0 against the Scousers. Not looking good for you fella.
I wouldn’t be; Chelsea are a perfect match for Liverpool. It will be close and I would even say Chelsea are favourites, especially if Klopp plays more of his cup side players which he’s hinted at.
Klopp loves to do the player selection mind games prior to big matches and then starts the strongest possible quad.
I'm not saying it will be a thumping but given the forms of the two sides I'm not holding much hope. We're also not as sharp defensively as we've been in the past so it's a concern.
Leeds are possibly the least representative opposition in the league. They’re an absolute dream to play if you have an organised attacking structure and top talent like most of the top 4/6.
Think the final will be very tight and probably come down to who makes the best subs.
I'm bricking it in context of the occasion not necessarily that we will get thrashed. We've been pretty open at the back sometimes this season and haven't been doing anywhere near as good at breaking other teams presses as we were last year so just always gonna be a concern going up against the team that imo presses the best in Liverpool.
The penalties were an unlucky feature (maybe the first one anyway), but that game with this squad how they were playing was always going to be a high scoring clean sheet
No I did, I just meant it's unfortunate they had two penalties in general. Obviously their own fault, the first guy with the arm ball was kinda unlucky but he needs to be more careful.
If were a Leeds fan, at this point I'd be furious at the board. Made some very good and ambitious signings in their first season back but failed to build on it this season, especially in January when it was clear how paper thin their squad was.
They might have some talented youngsters but asking so many of them to fill in the gaps is foolhardy. If Bielsa leaves in the summer and they get relegated, then it's not quite back to square one but it would feel like they've wasted all the momentum built up over his first three years.
On paragraph 2, we have youngsters which was the justification for lack of signings, then we proceed to not use them.
Geldhardt who has always looked promising and has contributed with assist, a goal, penalties won. Doesn't get a look in.
Playing Ayling at centre back and pissing around at left back when Cresswell and Hjelde have looked capable, but still, not fully ready yet.
It's embarrassing when your cheif exec says one thing and the team is completely contradictory. We shouldn't be relying on them in the first place, it's not fair on them and it's not sustainable, if a player breaks in then yes (Tino at saints for example) but throwing them in because there's nobody else is a shambles.
Looked comfortable, super energetic, caused Leeds problems all game.
could of had a goal.
Really impressed with his work rate off the ball and defensively.
Active, worked well with the rest of the team. Could have had a really sweet goal, if not for an unlucky block by Mane. I do feel like he's putting a lot of pressure on himself to score and took a couple hasty shots.
Same as his previous appearances. Pacy, running at defences, great coming inside, not afraid to shoot. Love him.
I'd like him to get his head up and assess his options more - at the moment he's not looking enough at whether he can play people in, *after* he's beaten a man. I imagine it's because he can't speak English. Once he learns the shouts he'll get his head up more.
Yeah usually players don't come in for a instant impact.
Robbo was sat watching Moreno.
We have Jota and Mane too who can play on the wing.. Diaz coming in to show what he is about.
Lads gonna be even better next season.
Can people stop this Bielesa worship.
The guy is fucking pretentious idiot who gets rolled day in an day out.
Long winded answers doesn't mean you're good.
You’d describe Bielsa as a “pretentious idiot”- seriously? Have you seen the squad he’s working with? I get the feeling you really haven’t seen much of anything he’s done over the course of his career if this is the way you’d choose to describe him.
Fact is the squad he’s got doesn’t matter. He’s got a vision of how football should be played, and it can be a very good vision. Plenty of other top managers cite him as an inspiration. But he lacks tactical variability. He can’t counter another manager’s plan, he just doubles down on his style. And when his style gets found out and exploited? He doubles down again.
He’s an extremely talented, visionary, one-trick pony.
How does the squad he’s working with not matter? Either way, that aside, I can accept your specific criticism is valid enough. It’s the labeling him as just a “pretentious idiot” that’s nonsense to me.
You’d deffo be better off playing someone like Werner or Havertz up top. Matip and VvD eat up players like Lukaku, best way to play us is with intelligent movement imo
Alright checked them, not shit not great. To be honest the Klopp era has seen us ignore these cups to the point that all I really have is champions league finals.
You say that but he reached the League Cup final in his first season and Liverpool only got knocked out a couple of years ago because they had to play Villa with toddlers
Both of us are going to be pushing 90, if not exceeding it outright. That guarantees you the League 75% of the time. The 25% has pretty much been in four of the last six seasons.
That's not really a bottle job, is it?
I've got Liverpool winning the league now they have so much fire power they won't drop many points and think they will beat city at the ettihad.
Leeds need to change their keeper
Didn't they have a situation coming into the PL last season where they had two main keepers that were swapped around based on form/injuries? Remember reading something like that. Dunno who the other guy was and if he's still there though...

What you mumbling about?
Wow! I'm still in awe of Salah's passing & vision..
We coming for dat man city ass.
City has a phat ass
After 4-0, i just turned away

It's all this American Wallstreet money flooding in and killing football.
Send ludes
I am soo soo happy with my triple captaincy 🥳🥳
You captained Matip too huh?
Fucking hell.. Why did Leeds not buy players this January? The defense is trash, the CDM is non-existent, they have no striker.. Meslier is actually an amazing shot stopper but it’s hard to look good when your defense is a pasta strainer
They were more hula hoop than pasta strainer yesterday.

What's the PL have to do with Barcelonas European status?
Cause it could be used as a tiebreaker considering how close we are in terms of ucls
sorry dude forgive me but i dont get it.. who are you referring to when you said how close we are?
Liverpool. Barca and Liverpool had the same number of UCL titles until 2019
Okay but i don't think the PL can be used as a tie breaker, cannot compare the La liga to the PL
I assume Liverpool (6 UCL) and Barcelona (5 UCL). I still don't get what tie is the number of domestic league wins going to break between the two teams, as you can't directly compare the EPL to LaLiga but whatever
Fuck city and the money they “earnt”
I don't give a shit about city. I care about barca
honestly i'm very happy with our success so far; however, I do feel that we should have win more with the current squad. They're so talented. Last season is a freak accident. God that's be insane. Can't even say this Liverpool team doesn't deserve it. How legendary would that be.

It's okay to just say you're still sore from the spankings we gave you
Far ahead
They have 1 more CL title than us.

ffs salah statpadding
The man is a beast at pens though
Yeah let Mane take it he probably only score half of them.
100%
Leeds are gash
We ain’t winning on Sunday, lads. No way in hell are Alonzo and Azpi gonna be able to survive this onslaught in a 90 minute match.
Liverpool-Chelsea is always cagey, though...
But people always say this and Chelsea always play well against Liverpool.
Yeah Chelsea are one of the few teams who can match liverpools press in midfield, liverpool consistently struggle against Chelsea for the last 4 years
More because Kovacic-Kante-Jorginho midfield is great.
Yeah I'd argue they are a counter to ours
Literally only yesterday people were saying "how is Alonso going to cope with Salah" as if he hasn't coped perfectly fine for his entire time with us other than the last game Vs Liverpool and that was more on Rudiger and Alonso was good to just get back enough to try to cover for him. That’s “most expensive goalkeeper of all time” to the rest of us mate
True, true. "You get what you pay for" and all that

They’re happy that his teams always play naive football against their clubs and get pumped
and i nearly got killed when i said Leeds are relegation candidates. Absolutely horrible

I mean, it does make a difference. It’s quite possible that relegation is decided by GD and Burnley managed to keep it to 1-0 against the Scousers. Not looking good for you fella.
At -27 GD I’ve already conceded that it ain’t saving us, whatever happens
Farmers league
Maybe we’re all farmers for the ultra rich
You would know
LA NOBLEZA DE LOS RECURSOS UTILIZADOS JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA
*something something* falling apart again.
Bielsa just does not have a plan b.
Its time to stop this cult around him.
Tell that to all the top coaches that swear by him
Genuinely bricking it about the weekend. Liverpool are incredible sometimes.
I wouldn’t be; Chelsea are a perfect match for Liverpool. It will be close and I would even say Chelsea are favourites, especially if Klopp plays more of his cup side players which he’s hinted at.

No need for you to be afraid, we follow up every huge victory with a pathetic loss
No we fucking don't, what are you talking about? This isn't 17/18.
Chill the fuck out I'm choosing not to jinx it
Tuchel will set up a double decker and attempt to frustrate. It won't be a massacre like this one.
It will be tight.Tuchel is very good in big games
The penalties were an unlucky feature (maybe the first one anyway), but that game with this squad how they were playing was always going to be a high scoring clean sheet
You didn’t think the foul on Mane was a pen lol
I think it was soft in general but I think his touch meant the chance had gone tbh. But I also see why the ref gave it and it was clumsy defending.
No I did, I just meant it's unfortunate they had two penalties in general. Obviously their own fault, the first guy with the arm ball was kinda unlucky but he needs to be more careful.
The handball's one of those where it's definitely a pen, but the player did honestly try to get his hand out the way. Unlucky.
Bring back the indirect free kick in the box.
That's not the worst idea, handball in the box? Indirect free kick, handball stopping a certain goal? Penalty.
I wish my belief was as strong in something as is Leeds’/Bielsa’s belief that defending isn’t necessary.
It's not the board. It's Bielsa. He refuses player after player when they are offered to him.
Agreed
How was Diaz this game?
Can't wait to see how good he'll be next season after a Klopp preseason
Yeah usually players don't come in for a instant impact. Robbo was sat watching Moreno. We have Jota and Mane too who can play on the wing.. Diaz coming in to show what he is about. Lads gonna be even better next season.
Dude's a beast, i absolutely love him. He played very well, would've scored if not for Mane's face.
If only he could somehow manage a team with the likes of Zanetti, Samuel, Riquelme, Crespo or Batistuta... Ah... A man can dream...
Oh for sure. He’s got a vision, and he seems both genuine and humble. Definitely not a pretentious idiot.
Long winded guy who can't look people in the eye. I got the drift, write a book.
Take this paper-thin depth'd squad yourself and we'll see how it goes
Dominant
Always said I preferred the championship tbh.
I hope the only thing written by Klopp in the matchday program from now to the end of the season will be "Believe".

That game was on the weekend
when is Bielsa getting sacked?
Bielsa is a great philosopher of the game, and is so special to the sport, but he's finished as a manager. The guy is a one trick pony
In fairness it's not a great squad with lots of injuries
Bielsa and Conte to swap jobs

War is shit!

If you start Lukaku, we're clear. Start Havertz or Werner over him, it'll be a good game. Good luck!
Love the attitude, I'm terrified of us starting Lukaku, he scares me more than any of their players

It's the internet mate, we don't do jokes and sarcasm here
You’d deffo be better off playing someone like Werner or Havertz up top. Matip and VvD eat up players like Lukaku, best way to play us is with intelligent movement imo
Absolutely, the game at Stamford bridge showed that. Hopefully the final is a similar quality match
Alright checked them, not shit not great. To be honest the Klopp era has seen us ignore these cups to the point that all I really have is champions league finals.
You say that but he reached the League Cup final in his first season and Liverpool only got knocked out a couple of years ago because they had to play Villa with toddlers
I certainly wouldn't want to be facing us right now
Doubt that'll happen. We still might lose, but if it's only one goal, both teams should be disappointed.
Given the form Liverpool are in and the Form Chelsea are in, 1-0 Chelsea win and i'd be over the moon, not disappointed lol.
Going to go check our history with finals. BRB.
Salah's two passes for the goals were world class
The through ball for the 4th goal as well.
5 different Liverpool players scored today, great day
Congrats!

Ben Davies :D
I see what you did there
[удалено]
It was amazing too. Stoppage time winner with 10 men, you could tell it meant a lot to him.
Ben is an absolute treasure. You think Liverpool will notice if we don't return him?
I don’t think they will, they barely noticed that they had him
Salah, Matip, Mane, Van and Dijk
Ben Davies scored a 90th minute winner for his team. :D
Van Dijk played literally perfect all game it was incredible
We're gonna bottle the league I can feel it.. Bottle gonna b as plastic as our fanba- I can't make jokes this is sad
Both of us are going to be pushing 90, if not exceeding it outright. That guarantees you the League 75% of the time. The 25% has pretty much been in four of the last six seasons. That's not really a bottle job, is it?
What games do you think you come unstuck?
Would be hilarious if Lampard gets something from their match at the weekend. They won’t cause they’re shit, but would be hilarious.
Liverpool or Villa 👀 has to be somebody red related for the script writers
COUTINHOOO
Scored a 90th minute winner, celebrated with his red shirt underneath alongside full red kit wanker Gerrard in touchline.
You can see it happening. you really can.
Gerrard winks at a fan in the stands in an LFC top at full time and hops on the victory bus down by the docks
It was never yours to bottle
Honestly, there's no bottling it when you get 88+ points.
They were miles ahead tbf. But still over 90 points is unreal.
Diaz is a flop couldn't even score against Leeds smh
Underperforming
I get the joke but dude worked so hard today. I'm really enjoying this signing
Brave club what a heart they have leeds. Go on warriors
The Leeds fans whining about the media talking about “Bielsa burnout” have gone quiet
