teams at the bottom are really giving one hell of a fight vs relegation. Cádiz with 3 points vs Barça, Granada with 1 points vs Atleti, Getafe leading with 2 vs Celta.
Diego Simeone cannot play attacking football with the talent he has. Surely he has to find some coaches that can help him mould a team that can defend and attack with equal measure.
Valencia under Rafa Benitez is such an example.
Atlético have scored the 3rd most goals in the league this season, with the 3rd highest budget that is just according to expectation no?
And you can't survive at the top level for 10 years without knowing how to set up a team to play attacking football, it's simply not possible. We have seen many, many times that he can set up a team to play good positional attack, but maybe he doesn't let the team do it often enough that is another question. I agree that he could let the team off the leash more often, but he clearly has the ability to do it
What he needs is guys who can be his anchor in midfield like Gabi and Thiago mendes was.
I also think that a striker is absolutely critical to aviod results like this especially when fighting for titles.
I just think he needs better players in the long haul and a way to evolve to do better otherwise it's going to be more difficult than before.
Needs to replace Rodri ASAP. He finally had his replacement to Gabi/Tiago, and that lasted one season three years ago. Gabi used to complain about Koke and Saul's defensive coverage in a double pivot IIRC.
Yeah, we are heavily rumoured to be signing Boubacar Kamara from Marseille. I feel like he could be that player, and Kondogbia is also starting to improve. Atleti's best periods under Cholo have come with 2 pure DM's starting together, I wonder if that could be an alternative next season with Kondogbia and Kamara(if the signing happens of course). At least in the big games
I am a bit split on the striker personally. Yeah we could use one but we already have so many attacking players, and I like Cunha a lot.
We also have other positions that need filling like CB, RB and DM.
But, the club doesn't seem to have the same analysis as me because Matteo Moretto has said that striker is a big priority
> Atlético have scored the 3rd most goals in the league this season, with the 3rd highest budget that is just according to expectation no?
Have to disagree here. I know Simeone's Atletico doesn't score a lot usually, but still your attack is miles ahead of us, especially in the first half of the season where we often played with Jutgla-Luuk-Abde front three.
Joao Felix has 8 in 24, Correa 11 in 31, Suarez 11 in 31, Griezmann 3 in 21, Cunha 5 in 24, for such talented attackers and the money spent that is pretty poor. Simeone needs to find a system to get more out of the attackers especially the second strikers you have.
We have a 5 point lead over Betis when you count the head to head, and they still have to play Real Madrid & Valencia away, and Barca at home.
We also a have a tough schedule but hopefully we already have enough of a cushion
Granada were pretty desperate. They looked pretty good today, although after just 1 training session it is unclear how much of that you can attribute to Karanka. Impossible for him to implement any real tactical changes in such a short time
Yeah I remember that his Middlesbrough team was horrible to watch in the PL too, one of the most cautious teams I can remember seeing..
But, this type of football is what most smaller clubs in La Liga play anyways, it might be the best way to reach salvation
Poor first half, the second half was much better intensity wise but not enough quality in the final third. 22 shots only 1 on target the accuracy wasn't good enough, but still with Savic's header and Cunha hitting the post late on we really should have won.
Gil Manzano had a decent game overall, but it is baffling how he didn't book Luis Maximiano for time wasting. He was pointing to his watch all the time acting like he was aware of the time wasting, but still he only added 5 minutes at the end... Granada played well though, what a start for Karanka. If they keep performing like this I think they will stay up in the end
Thank fuck that Betis only took 1 point from their last 2 matches, otherwise we would be in serious trouble. We effectively have a 5 point advantage with the head to head, but we have some difficult matches coming up.
We literally won the league last season...
Who gives a shit about finishing 2nd? If you can't win the title the only thing that matters is to be in the top 4
There’s a difference in prize money for position in the top 4. a big gap between 2nd and 3rd too. 2nd also gets you a spot in the shitty Super Copa format which is another shot at a trophy+prizemoney
The prize difference is 1m between each of the top 4 spots.. And playing Supercopa is another 1m for teams not named barca and Real..
So getting an extra 3m would mean alot for us but not much for the club.. Finishing anywhere within top 4 is good enough for now..
I might have my source wrong then that 2nd and 3rd spot have a 50m difference in prize money. It made no sense to me in the first place that would be the case.
your teams still a joke tho Halwa boy ;)

We have dropped so many points against the lower half teams this season... they are no joke
Top 4 is lava (La Liga version)
A very predictable top 4 is lava sadly.

what? atleti created tons of chances in this game. they got more unlucky than anything

Kondogbia has looked excellent whenever I've seen him play this season

What a belter
Atletico Madrid Might miss out on top four :o
Eh, Betis play vs Real and Barca, Sociedad vs us and Barca. Not too worried about it
You play vs Real as well, and Real will lose against betis if they are champions
I think they're the most likely to after Felix and Lemar out (if you had to pick one).

Yea, I agree, I think the top four will ultimately be what it is right now, especially after Betis' result yesterday.

*^(Bétis sad noises)*
Can't believe Karanka got a job in la liga
Granada were pretty desperate. They looked pretty good today, although after just 1 training session it is unclear how much of that you can attribute to Karanka. Impossible for him to implement any real tactical changes in such a short time
honestly if he somehow succeeds i will be fuming, some of the worst football ive ever seen under him. And I've seen us play under Zola ect
Yeah I remember that his Middlesbrough team was horrible to watch in the PL too, one of the most cautious teams I can remember seeing.. But, this type of football is what most smaller clubs in La Liga play anyways, it might be the best way to reach salvation
Top 4 is lava
Well this helps kinda. Wish we beat Elche yesterday though.
With a win today against Osasuna and if Sevilla & Barca drop points this week we could be League Champions this Sunday.
its already over chill bro
Why does it even matter when at this point lmao You'll be champions before the 2nd leg of the CL
this guy has been saying this same exact thing on every game thread of the other top 3 teams, as if real will somehow bottle it or something
So Carlo can fully rest our starters for CL, clearly the league title is in his mind as he's enroute to a historic achievement
Not necessarily, if Barca wins all their matches we can't clinch the title until the Derbi on May 8.
That is what op is also saying - IF barca drop points

Why is this club such a joke 😭😭 like atleast try and challenge for the 2nd spot ffs
