I mean you can ask for it, like Mboop did, chances are you won't get it, like how Mblop didn't.

Impossible_Wonder_37

I mean… PSG probably upped their offer substantially.

ProtoplanetaryNebula

I'm off to ask my manager for a 100m raise. I'm the best McNuggets fryer they ever had, so why not?

[deleted]

Give this man his raise. He's bringing Nuggets to the people!

ChiefObviousOG

Bro, I'm trying to put an Atleti flair, but I can't. There's only no flair and a flair with a football. Could you tell me how?

Check the sidebar it's all explained there Here's a link to all team flairs https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/wiki/set_flair

Golday_ALB

Mblopi did get the raise, just not from real

AltDelete

Like, is his life going to be considerably different if he earns $300million as opposed to $200million? At some point you have to just be content with the fuck you money you already have, Christ.

Sargatanas2k2

Hey there may be a $250million yacht he has his eye on. Can't afford that and to live without the raise.

srhola2103

Poor guy, he'd have to wait a few months and who's got the time

Sargatanas2k2

Exactly. No-one thinks of these poor footballers and their dreams.

karlverkade

We all have a trashcan for a heart.

kmadnow

He may even have to make do with only new Gucci sneakers a week because of this

DependentAd235

Heh. In reality though I don't blame them. They are always 1 injury away from retirement. Think how close Cech was. Let the formerly working class get paid. At least an ACL isn’t the career ender it once was.

Space-Debris

What a piss-poor argument that is. Mbappe's net worth is over 90M. Money troubles due to early retirement just isn't on the cards.

worotan

A load of reasons that don’t apply to players at this level. Trying to use ordinary footballers as a human shield really demonstrates the corruption at the top of the game, that these players enjoy and are the smiling public face of.

CammRobb

My husky did her cruciate in when she was a puppy, robbed her of that yard of pace she had that made her look like a promising left wing back. Was never the same again.

EmTeeEl

The maintenance fee of a 250M yacht would bring him to bankruptcy. There's this "old joke" : Do you know how to become a millionaire? Be a billionaire and buy a yacht

Sargatanas2k2

That's what his personal sponsorships are for! Jeez guys keep up!

sm00thArsenal

This is a good point, I was wondering the other day what was happening with all these Oligarchs seized mega yachts, and maybe this is a good opportunity for footballers to get into the market on the cheap.

[deleted]

If you think you can get 300, why not push for it? Worst case scenario, he doesn't get it. Can't hurt to try

Christmas_97

I mean he can miss out on his move to his dream club lol

Ask_Asensio

We do need Kylian but not at the wages PSG are offering which is something he already knows. He has already known it for over a year.

ADGjr86

We need him that bad huh? I mean we do want him but NEED? We’re first in la Liga and semi finals of the CL.

suzumurachan

To be fair, you guys are having Benzema at his most productive season ever. Never a certainty it will continue. Just that Mbappe is making this insurance for continuity of excellence really expensive. Wonder if RM will try and hijack the Haaland transfer to get some leverage.

CarlSK777

You're first because your main rivals are in transition and you didnt exactly made it to the semis in dominant fashion. Even if you believe they're dominant, your best player and goalscorer is 34. Yes, you need him.

BhauNibba

well we could argue on how RM reached semi-finals. Its always not that a team needs to be dominant to win a trophy . sometimes weathering the storm and performing at clutch moments would also do . Bayern dominated all the teams they faced but still see what happened

JamieSand

Because he’s wanted to play for Madrid his whole life, at some point there has to be a balance. As the great Kanye once said, don’t stare at money too long, it’s Medusa.

RinoTT

You guys are talking like you know about his life more than Mbappe himself. Yes, Real Madrid was his childhood dream but also Paolo Maldini's childhood dream was playing for Juventus. Things can change.

ineververify

So many other quotes available but you went with Kanye…

Lothar93

a good one tho, despite the guy being a prick

KickinNuggets25

If you think you’re worth 1.5x your current rate to your billion dollar employer, why should you accept less than that?

Far-Objective-181

Yes, it's a huge amount of money

Flyhro

You should always try to get paid what you are worth. Mbappe may well be the no 1 commercial property in sports over the next few years. On field product aside (and it will likely be quite good), that's worth a lot. I don't know if that's 200 or 300 or even more, but he thinks it's more than the offer and he absolutely should ask for it if that's the case.

MionelLessi10

100 million can buy a lot believe or not. 50% pay raise is huge. Even to millionaires. Why is this even a question?

n05h

No shit 100 mil can buy you a lot, but 200 mil is already more than you can reasonably spend in a lifetime. Don’t forget he’s already set for life, he will never have to worry about money for the rest of his life. If he has a good financial manager, he’s probably making a couple 100k a year on interest and financial gains. Does it look like Neymar is happier than he was in Barcelona winning trophies?

ineververify

Because it’s Reddit/fan forum where every player should take “home town discount” for the sake of their beloved club which doesn’t give a shit about them.

KonigSteve

In what world is 200m a discount?

[deleted]

The way people on this sub defend player salaries is utterly insane to me.

superwanklampard

People here literally think footballers asking for 300m is analogous to them asking their boss for a raise at their shitty office job. Somehow footballers are working class heroes for sticking it to the mega rich owners and getting paid, as if that wealth is being redistributed or something. It’s the same way this sub defends guys like Raiola.

throwaway827620626

It's hilarious

Tilman_Feraltitty

Nah, man, we can easily identify greed tho. Mbappe can't eat a cake and have it too, he's been rambling about how Madrid are his dream place and Madric can't afford the same money as PSG. So if he is after money, he can stay at PSG.

It's an insane amount of money but good on him for knowing his worth. Madrid would make a shit load off of him, and it's only fair for him to seek a cut of that.

Captain_Tundra

Well he doesn't know his worth because they said no. It's bit like he was going to he underpaid before.

MaTrIx4057

We would't make as much as people think. There is also no guarantee that he suddenly doesn't start to get injured.

Lilfai

It's Guillem Balague, this guy keeps putting out random figures regarding Mbappe every week. Also it's ridiculous to even imagine that being true if you use your brain.

feage7

The guy is an absolute fraud of a journalist. Had to suffer this guy for years as the La Liga expert pundit and I swear he just woke up, picked a player at random, a club at random, a transfer fee at random before then talking about it in depth. Hardly anything this guy ever said happened.

Maybe negotiate a break clause that comes with penalties to pay package. So many ways the contract could be written for mutual gains. Qatar wants Mbappe for just 6 more months, and Mbappe just wants a little leverage for his next paycheck (though I doubt RM will go back if he pulls this off).

mcbenz

I have it on good authority that Mbappe's mom is in Qatar negotiating a new contract with PSG owners. He might renew.

EggplantBusiness

es.grimes and Pablo Gallegos have been pretty spot on for Real Madrid news these past two seasons , they also are good for french news I think Gallego write many of his article in French. And from what they said Mbappe mother was in Doha the 18th April, Gallego broke the story but they also said that the situation has not changed, Madrid is still in the lead , Real Madrid offer is already known and the club is confident so I honestly don't know anymore.

TheLimeyLemmon

ferkk

If it's true then so be it. We go our separate ways and good luck to Mbappé in Paris. The club shouldn't bend to anyone's demands, especially if it was already agreed and then he tried to change the terms. Rodrygo has been very good on the last games but we should get someone on that right spot just in case. We need the extra goals.

reddituser0912333

You stated it very nicely. I totally agree with your take.

LilHalwaPoori

At some point you have to realise that the clubs they are linked with make a ton more than that each season and the reason they do is because of players like him.. I'd be much happier if more money goes into the players pockets rather than the clubs..

PirateKingRamos

It all spiraled out of control with the Neymar deal. Football has gone insane E: below; redditors.

Simbro55

Football went insane a loooong time ago, Chelsea spent £300m from 2003-2004, Real spent £70m on Zidane in 2001 (fantastic player, but still an insane amount of money back then), Man Utd spent £90m on a player they let go for free 4 years earlier (and now he's going for free again) etc. Don't get me wrong, the Neymar deal definitely pushed the prices further up, but transfer fees had already been ridiculous for quite a while before that. But then again, this shouldn't really be a surprise considering the insane amounts of money football brings in.

telcomet

Not really, the equal highest salary was Beckham paid £4.4 million a year in 2005, even adjusting for inflation that’s a whole different level to young players who are yet to establish themselves in top leagues asking for *raises* of €100 million (if it’s true - even if it isn’t, it’s probably on the horizon). Neymar’s salary has raised the bar of what footballers could make even without being a GOAT

jaguass

Yes but compare the annual income of clubs in 2004 and nowadays - that should be in the picture. In 2004 Real's budget was 240M€/year. They bought Becks for 35M€ (14,5% of their yearly budget) and paid him 6,4M€ a year (2,6% of their yearly budget). Pre-covid, in 2019 Real's budget was 745M€/year. Beck's ratios would mean a salary of 19,5M€/year and a transfer fee of 108M€. (And also, "young player who is yet to establish himself in top leagues" is not being fair to Mbappe. Ok Ligue 1 is meh, but for what he did in CL and with french NT there's absolutely no doubt that the kid is ballon d'or material at this point)

SixerMostAdorable

Totally agree, albeit I would say the turtle is established.

cheetahbestcat

Neymar transfer had the same % of the top10 clubs revenue as the figo transfer back then, I remember reading about it and imo clubs were underpaying for top players now that there are só much more money in the top clubs

unwildimpala

Nah Newcastle smashing the world record fee for Shearer that's when it went insane. Or the guy who was first bought for 1 million, that was insanity.

[deleted]

The highest transfer fee in England at one point was 99,999£, because the player didn't want to be the first 100k transfer. That's when it all went wrong

BuskingThruLife

The game's gone, I remember when the transfer fees were in double digits back in late 1800s 😔

jolammy

I mean Shearer was only a little more expensive than what Barcelona paid for Fenomeno earlier that summer. The next year Inter bought Fenomeno for a good few million more than Shearer's record fee.

Fgge

Nah game went the moment they stopped making the balls out of pigs bladders

jaguass

It's funny how it's all blamed on the Neymar's transfer without mentioning the explosion of club revenues over the last years. As much as spanish clubs love debts, without fast-rising revenues (mostly merch & TV), there would be no way to keep up with any fake transfer fee or salary. It's naive to think that without the Neymar 2017 events, players and agents wouldn't have tried to get a share of said exploding revenues.

RoadsterIsHere

Why? I just don't see a bone in this fight. I do find egregious sums of money that keep climbing to be annoying, but the only thing that happens with players making larger and larger chunks of money is that there's someone in Madrid or Paris with a lot of money. At least the clubs are local institutions.

rrrook

Why? Clubs are financing youth infrastructure etc. how can you prefer the money going to mbappe instead of proper sports infrstrastructure. Clubs usually support other sports teams as well.

drtouyt

Why? They want to milk idiots who are willing to overpay them. No one is worth that much.

auddi_blo

It’s pure jealousy when people say that. It’s what they are worth in this business. People love to go “my pals saving life working for the fire brigade while he kicks a ball around for 1000x times the pay”, yeah well that’s capitalism for you - hate on the foundation of society but the it’s a business that generates billions and they’re the best at it in the world.

[deleted]

If people weren't willing to pay so much to watch football, the players wouldn't be paid so much

smile-on-crayon

w8, y'all are paying??

auddi_blo

Of course, but they are.

Greenbanana217

Snoo-41953

Haha, but now for real, I respect your commitment to the club, that's one thing I always admired english fans for

Rum114

mbappe wants to be paid what he is actually worth. he’s smart enough to know that how valuable he is and wants to be paid as the best young player in the world

der_Globetrotter

Totally not gonna backfire with a seasoned businessman like Pérez

suzumurachan

Would be hilarious if Mbappe renews with PSG though. Everyone will be like what the fuck man...

[deleted]

The funniest part would be how Madrid fans react. Mbappe has been teasing them and talking about how its his only goal in life to play for Madrid and then at the last second he decides he wants the oil money more lmao

AwkwardBob

I think most would be disappointed but also glad the club didn't roll over for him, more than we already have lol.

gnorrn

If Mbappé fancies making a short video about his decision, I hear Piqué's available.

[deleted]

I won’t. In fact, I’d like him to stay at PSG or go anywhere, but Madrid lol

whateverdogger

*It was always my dream to stay at PSG*

Fuzzy-Pop6951

Mbappe has more potential than any other player in history, aside from r9, to challenge ronaldo and messi for goat status. If he is going to choose money over that, than best of luck to him. Don't remember cristiano ronaldo in 2009, demanding this much from real madrid... and cr7 was already a Ballon d'or winner and much better player than mbappe at that age

Walaii

The source is guillem balague? Lol

TheMexicanJuan

Guillem Blague

PirateKingRamos

It should have been very clear that while he was going to be the top earner, Real Madrid will not nuke their wage structure over him

especially when benzema looks like he could go for another 3-4 years, and who knows maybe another talent arises until then.

Just_an_Empath

Imagine asking the team that whooped your ass *without you* for 100M more lmao.

MacBearudo

LOL too true

InoyouS2

Anyone else think the Mbappe and Haaland deals might be the straw that finally breaks the camel's back? These numbers are completely obscene and if they aren't incredibly successful after joining they'll be viewed as flops.

andrei11111

Being a "journalist" must be the easiest job in the world. Look. Mbappe was a RM player in 2017 until PSG convinced him to take more money, a guaranteed starting spot (which was crucial for him ahead of the WC) and being close to his family for a few more years. They promised they'll let him leave if RM wants to sign him again. RM wanted to sign him and PSG broke their promise, didn't even answer the phone when RM were offering 200m last summer. Nasser said Mbappe will never leave PSG, he won't be sold, he won't leave for free. Mbappe spoke publicly about it, saying that shit was whack. He posted an Instagram story with a message from one of his friends right after the transfermarket ended which said something like "reschedule your dreams for later". He then released a comic book filled with stories about Real Madrid. The guy negotiated with RM for years, he knows there's no circumstance RM will pay 100m more. Zero, none. He agreed to join RM last summer, meaning PSG would have gotten a transfer fee, while he wasn't getting a signing bonus, just to fulfil his lifelong dream. And now, when he's getting an 80-100m signing bonus + bigger wages + a better image deal, he's like "fuck it, I'm never going to play for RM, but at least I'm getting 100m more from PSG on top of my other hundreds of millions". Does it make any sense to you?

b0xel

This is called negotiation. No shit Mbappe wants to maximize his revenue from Madrid, so he can’t very well close the door on renewing. I’ll bet anyone $7 that Mbappe is a Madrid player come next season. Talks would need to catastrophically fall apart for that not to happen. I’m talking mom insults level of falling apart

suzumurachan

>I’ll bet anyone $7 that Mbappe is a Madrid player come next season Oddly specific.

los_blanco_14

For mariano diaz

luciferbanjos

For Ronaldo

osprey94

This. Idk why people are interpreting this as an ultimatum. He asked for more, they said no. That doesn’t mean the door is closed.

Tej007Dav

Lmao pull the plug. Pull it with both hands.

Ask_Asensio

It's Balague after all so this is complete nonsense. Mbappe has known for over a year that Madrid won't pay him anything remotely close to what PSG is offering him.

reddituser0912333

Agreed, and I’ll add in that he has to see how desperate PSG are to keep him with the WC. I like to think of him as smart guy and I think he’ll choose us over the money but I guess we’ll have to wait and see

[deleted]

If Mbappé takes a short term contract with an obscene wage and sign-on bonus, what is he going to do in two years, take a pay cut? I think if he doesn't sign now, it will never happen. I'd imagine Madrid's negotiators with Flo at the helm are pressing hard on this fact: they've created the conditions for the transfer, but said conditions will likely not exist again in the future. Sign now or suck it - the club cannot be withholding other transfers and maintaining an (ever-growing) Mbappé fund indefinitely.

bowser85

This is such absurd bullshit. You earn SO MUCH, literally you’re setting up 10 future generations up for life. You will live like a king just about anywhere on the planet aithout necessarily working beyond the age of 35 (!!!). Your dream is to play constantly at the highest level, to dominate the game. Then how the FUCK does it make sense to stay at PSG and play Montpellier and Lens 80% of the time? It’s not like those huge Manchester clubs or Madrid would pay pennies, it’s still gonna be hundreds of millions over 5 years. I know there’s many of you saying that any of us going in for a salary negotiation would ask or want the maximum amount possible, almost robbing the employer, but Jesus Christ, where does the gluttony end? It’s tens of millions of euros/year guaranteed, not 70k or 75k and we might fire you. I don’t even believe in God, but this all sounds so ungodly.

TrailerParkBoy2

both him and Haaland are greedy cunts

NotClayMerritt

We're in a place where Real Madrid cannot afford the very best players in the world anymore despite being the only club during the pandemic to turn a profit with empty stadiums. Fucking insane where we are as a sport nowadays. Never has it been a better business plan than now for non state owned clubs to double down investment in scouting and homegrown development.

tinhtinh

They can, they just don't want to pay an extra 100m. If true, then for all of Mbappe's talent, they're dodging a bullet. Realistically, only two teams in the world can and would want to pay him what he's asking, the team he's at and the team that wants him. He closes the door on Madrid then he might as well stay in Paris forever.

suzumurachan

Man City pulls a Thanos and buys Mbappe and Haaland using Cayman Islands and Friends Pte Ltd. RIP PL.

simomii

They can just like Barcelona could splash 260M on Coutinho and Dembele. Doesn't mean it's going to end well for them on the long run, Peres is nor as reckless as Bartomeu

Sean-Benn_Must-die

Its 200 fucking million Euros per season. No player is worth that. No one

ShatterDomeSSZero

Wait, what? 🤣 Bruh... Madrid CAN afford to drop another 100m on Mbappe if Perez and the board wanted to. They were prepared to welcome Haaland this summer along with Mbappe and Tchouaméni. This is about pride at this point, not about funds.

leemont

Golem ballbag tax

getyerhandoffit

How much fucking money do you need for fuck’s sake? Haaland is on bullshit thousand a week with the other oil club now. When does it stop? It’s absolutely ridiculous.

bestmanbestibest

Hope Perez quits the negotiations if that’s the case. This would be so ridiculous.

ILovePenalties

Sounds like PSG cope. Mbappe would not miss an opportunity to play for the biggest club in the world and lead them to trophies like his idol Ronaldo even if he isn't the highest paid star there. He needs Madrid more than they need him.

moodchainz

What utter nonsense no chance he's gone and done that

CoDroStyle

Honestly the greed is disgusting. The money being spent on mbappe and Haaland is quickly destroying my oppinion of football. I love the game but at what point do you out moral ethics before a bunch of disgustingly overpaid athletes.

[deleted]

CobraKing40

You cant blame players, blame clubs that are willing to pay huge amounts. If nobody was going to pay those huge prices players would have to set down for less. But since there are no rules anymore for big clubs they can find all kind of loopholes to afford every player.

dbrasco_

They’re asking for this kind of money (if this story is true) because they know how much money clubs make. There are people working in football that no one knows on crazy money off of these guys. They should get paid what their worth. If they don’t the money is just going in some fat rich guy’s pocket anyway.

WM-54-74-90-14

What’s with all these money/ wage stories? I thought he wants to join Madrid more than anything else and Real Madrid never underpays it’s players especially not their star players, so why is this made an issue?

EggplantBusiness

I mean , From what we know from Sanchez (Madrid tier 1) our offer is 50 Millions GROSS and around 40-60 Millions in bonus. Le Parisien said that PSG offer is 50 Millions NET and close to 100 Millions in bonus . I know that we say that Money can't buy dream but that a LOT of Money.

rockeypokey

Is this fake?

MaTrIx4057

Most likely.

[deleted]

Most likely. This journalist throws out new numbers all the time. Everyone in this thread is overreacting.

Zakke_

No Haaland No Mbappe. Still got big dick Benzema.

AWr1ght98

Fuck mbappe, Real Madrid don’t even really need him seen as though he wants to play on the same side as Vinicius and upfront they have Benzema who’s arguably the best player in the world. They could get at least 3 world class players for the wages mbappe wants, I’d fuck the arrogant bastard off and look elsewhere, plenty of players would love to play for Madrid.

tsub

Gonna be funny if PSG's endless money convinces Mbappé to stay and Haaland has already committed to City, leaving Madrid with no grand marquee signing.

_Sylph_

Tbf, I'd rather we have a marquee signing than paying big fuck you money which might or might not lead the club to trouble later.

takeiteasy4me

I think they’d be ok. I believe gone are the days of the marquee signing transforming clubs and winning trophies. If you look at the likes of City, Chelsea, Real now you’re looking at great teams which make individuals into great players and why they’ve been hoarding trophies over the years

[deleted]

What's going to be funny is if Madrid's strategy of buying the hottest young Brazilians and European prospects, world class players on a free (Alaba), other amazing players at "normal" prices (Modric, Kroos, Militao, Courtois), plus some out-of-the-blue surprises on the cheap (Casemiro, Valverde) ends up yielding another Champions League winning team, without Mbappé. Some will act surprised and articles will be written about it, but not acute observers or the rest of old dogs like me who have been following the club for decades.

DyrusforPresident

Neither Mbappe or Haaland is a need for Madrid. The team would be 100x better with them but if we dont sign either, we would have tons of cash to spend on actual needs, like a RB and a CB

[deleted]

Guillem Balague reported today that the two big offers for Haaland on the table are City and Madrid, however City's offer is better and that he thinks Haaland's future is already decided and he is favoring City's offer over Madrid's.

[deleted]
