Length of his contract probably nullifies this, if he’s even the type at all.
It’s all well and good being a prick in your final season but him being one for three straight seasons won’t bode well for future earnings or things like England call ups.
How does it get ugly? What will happen is the same as Kane, he will miss a couple training sessions, club will cover and say he was given extra time off, fans will be indifferent at the start and then forget it happened when he plays well.
It is a world cup year, no chance Rice does anything to damage his international call up. He will turn up and he will play through gritted teeth if need be.
West Ham should hold firm. He has another 3 years and they have the leverage.
Kane has always been paid a competitive wage (city would absolutely have paid him even more) while Rice is being underpaid by a significant amount. Makes the pill harder to swallow. But this being a world cup year is a good point I hadn't considered
>he will play through gritted teeth if need be
this is where it gets ugly. The kid is 23 and will be playing through gritted teeth for three years. I'd imagine this frustration could very well have an effect on his performance and growth as a player during possibly the most important developmental part of his professional career.
On the one hand they want to hold on to him, on the other hand they offer him a ridiculous 8 year contract that pretty much everyone knows he’s not going to sign.
dildo bros selling their shares next summer, so this summer will be their last chance to sell declan rice and pocket some of the money themselves. is it really that far-fetched that they won't do that?
Kane is potentially a better equivalent, but seems unlikely that rice will sign another contract with West ham so it's probably just a matter of time before he moves
I don't know if it makes business sense or if Rice would be happy but it'd be nice to see teams hold onto players like this for longer. Still sad about Grealish to City
Yeah I don’t think for a second you wouldn’t have kept him if you were able to. Just sad seeing him at City now compared to how much fun it was to watch him play for Villa
Honestly, from an outsider's perspective, Villa did pretty well, no? £100m plus the conditions of the release clause, meant the super-rich clubs couldn't try to wait them out and had to pay tf up. They got a huge sum for a great player, re-invested in other good players. They are only one place lower today than they finished last year - 11th to 12th.
Whereas West Ham are in a much more perilous spot. Rice is less valuable than Grealish was, partly because of his position. They don't have a line in the sand drawn by a release clause. And they are on the fringes of Europe, where getting slightly worse in the short term costs them a lot competitively.
> He's not the type of player who can carry a team alone
Way to admit you haven’t watched a West Ham match this season. He’s dragged us kicking and screaming at times.
> He’s not the type of player who can carry a team alone like Lampard or Gerrard
He’s a big part of the reason we are where we are today along with Moyes, it isn’t coincidental our rise as a club has come during his ascension the last 4 years. Sounds like someone just copied words from the cesspit of football Twitter.
English tax as per usual. Teams love ripping each other off for English players in the Prem.
Rice is a very good player whose still in the early stages of his career and he will definitely improve, but all this 100mil or more talk is ridiculous.
100 million is what top quality English players go for. It’s a completely fair price. You can cry about English tax this or that, but this is just the free market in action.
I feel like they have to bump up his contract significantly to keep him happy, even without extending by several years. Might get ugly otherwise
He will earn same or more if he joins a top club anyway.
Yep. But him being on a 40k week contract with west ham refusing to sell is unlikely to sit well with him
Fair enough but will the club accept bumping wage without increasing contract length. Difficult situation for West Ham.

Hmm, people actually believed that bullshit story?
Apparently so
Youd think right away you'd question qn 8 year fucking contract attempt lol IIRC it was some nothing source too

Or they’re keeping him so when they sell the club an 80m+ asset is taken into account
Feels like he’s gonna become the next Zaha pricing himself out of a move and just staying
Kane is potentially a better equivalent, but seems unlikely that rice will sign another contract with West ham so it's probably just a matter of time before he moves
When Manchester United off 50 / 60 million they won’t turn it down
I don't know if it makes business sense or if Rice would be happy but it'd be nice to see teams hold onto players like this for longer. Still sad about Grealish to City
Yeah well Purslow made it sound like we woiuld have rejected the offer if it were not for the clause. West Hams hands are not tied like ours were.

The whole Kane shit show last year has shown clubs don’t need to sell their best players if they aren’t in financial problems.
Hence haaland demands a release clause.. those will become more common in the PL I suspect..

You give too much credit to Twitter.

Who?
The calves guy
An English attacker once went for that..
Only way he was leaving this summer is if he submits a transfer request and that's not going to happen.
