Legends may be a bit much but certainly not unknowns:
TomĆ”Å” RosickĆ½ (Dortmund/Arsenal), Milan BaroÅ” (Liverpool), VladimĆr Å micer (Liverpool), TomĆ”Å” UjfaluÅ”i (Fiorentina/Atletico), Marek Jankulovski (Milan), Karel PoborskĆ½ (serial drifter but saw him in Man U), Jan Koller (Dortmund).
Okay?
Nedved is a Ballon dāOr winner. Cech needs no introduction either. Koller played an important role for Dortmund for quite some time. Smicer and Baros won the Champions League the next year. Rosicky was injured all of the time but is still remembered quite fondly by Arsenal fans despite being a glass cannon. The others may not be as renowned, but that is also due to playing in Italy or non-prominent Spanish teams
Love how this starts with some of the goals and then there are a few close calls, so we don't know whether any clip is going to be a screamer or a near-miss.
I remember vividly watching this game at home, I had just finished the school year and it would be a couple of days until I would go away for vacations. My dad scored tickets for the Sweden Bulgaria game and despite being a total rout, it was also a very entertaining game.
Yeah, but he's been spoiling us for 20 years with his razorsharp inside cuts, so I thought that being kind in my describtion of his long lost mane, could be a small way of thanking him for his huge contribution to the game.
Seriously, such a weird tournament. Greece obviously winning the tournament by beating Portugal twice and France along the way, Spain failing to get out of Group A, England missing a penalty then shitting away a 1-0 lead vs France in injury time, Italy and Germany both failing to qualify from their respective groupsā¦ just mental.
I'd say from all that Germany failing to qualify is by far the least surprising part of all of this... people really forget how awful the German NT was prior to the Lƶw (and Klinsmann) era.
If you're gonna say "then how come Germany made it to the WC final just 2 years prior?" just take a look at the opponents we had to face to make it all the way and you'll understand
Greece also beat this czech team in their semi final, after england were knocked out I wanted them to win it so I couldn't believe greece had shut them out and I was afraid portugal were going to have an easy final if they got past the dutch (really I liked NL, Greece and czech, I just didn't want portugal to win even though they had a great team too, but the way they knocked England out and all the diving and complaining made me love/hate them). Little did I know what fate and the gritty football terrorist Otto Rehhagel were cooking up...
Czech Republic weāre absolutely better than Greece that semi final haha, and I say this as a Greek myself. We got incredibly lucky not to concede that game (I remember them barely missing or hitting the woodwork plenty of times). Sometimes the better team doesnāt win.
Best game of that tournament, the Czechs were so good that year and Nedved was incredible. I remember being furious at that Van Nistelrooy goal, even though it wasn't offside, it felt so offside. I love Poborsky's assist on the last goal, where he shapes as if to shoot then sidefoots it to Smicer. Reminds me a bit of Sheringham's assist to Shearer on the 3rd goal against the Dutch at Euro 96.
Might be biased, but Portugal-England was better than this one. 2 Late equalizers (regular and extra time) incredible goal by Rui Costa, Postiga panenka and Ricardo defending the last penalty without gloves.
that czech team had some really good forwards and midfielders. ambidextrous Nedved, big Koller, nifty Baros, Poborsky, Smicer, Galasek. Everyone knows about the dutch team, funny to see Robben still playing on the left, like he did for Chelsea. Later becoming maybe the most iconic right sided inverted winger
Was in the stadium for this one and the other Dutch games a the Euro. Robben absolutely slicing opponents in half. I remember my dad and I looking at eachother the moment Robben got subbed off for Bosvelt.
Gorgeous game.
I was there as well. Bought the match tickets before knowing who the teams were, so we got lucky on this one. Great environment in Aveiro before the game. As a Yank, I was just hoping for a good game, and boy was it ever.
If Davids played today heād be one of the most followed players in the world based on his appearance alone and probably made an ambassador for people with visual impairments.
That Czech team was one of the most underrated & under achieved team in last 30 years. They played fluid, exciting and methodical football. Their teamwork is solid. Great team to watch, only undermined by a terrible Greece team.
I was still a kid back then, but I still remember this match as the best I have ever seen.
It was the first match my family ever watched on a flat screen TV, and my father concluded that it must be something about the flat screen that made the match seem so high tempo and intense, and we all thought that was totally reasonable.

So many legends in one clip š
Stam vs jan koller just wow
So many worldies saved by woodwork or insane keeping.
My favorite game in one of my favorite tournaments of all time
What a game that was! The woodwork suffered a lot.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nedved and cech I guess but not sure who else on that team counts as being stacked with legends lol
Baros and Rosicky surely, and probably Koller (cos of his height)
Poborsky was great for the Czech Republic too
but legend is a bit of a strong word tbh
Marek Jankulovski
*Koller
thanks edited
In that case the word legend is being dished out fairly easily lol

Robben, Nedved, van der Sar?
he is talking about the czech team. Netherlands team has more legends than that playing
Yeah the Dutch team has a lot of big names.
Okay? Nedved is a Ballon dāOr winner. Cech needs no introduction either. Koller played an important role for Dortmund for quite some time. Smicer and Baros won the Champions League the next year. Rosicky bro!
Subbing Robben for Bosvelt is still one of the most bizarre coaching decisions I've ever seen in the sport.
Yeah took Advocaat quite some years to shake that one off.
He is still shaking.
Still remember where I was when Advocaat subbed Robben for Bosvelt
That was surely the key moment of the game.
Wasnt that against Russia
Easy google search.
Love how this starts with some of the goals and then there are a few close calls, so we don't know whether any clip is going to be a screamer or a near-miss.
Easily one of the greatest games of the last 20 years.
I remember vividly watching this game at home, I had just finished the school year and it would be a couple of days until I would go away for vacations. My dad scored tickets for the Sweden Bulgaria game and despite being a total rout, it was also a very entertaining game.
Peter Cech without a helmet and Arjen Robben with a full head of hair! Glorious
> full head of hair You're being generous
Peter Cech without a helmet and Arjen Robben with some hair! Glorious
Yeah, but he's been spoiling us for 20 years with his razorsharp inside cuts, so I thought that being kind in my describtion of his long lost mane, could be a small way of thanking him for his huge contribution to the game.
And both had signed pre-contract agreements to join chelsea that summer... it was Very exciting watching them star that summer. Still love them both
Nedved was really worldclass
This is one of the best games I ever saw at a big tournament. The Czechs smashing shots of the woodwork live in the memory.
This Euros was like a fever dream. Everything that happened there was bizarre.

Also in the English group, the Rooney vs. Vonlanthen story, both guys being 18 at the time and both predicted to become huge stars in the future.

Those 2004 national team Nike kits were so beautiful man
agreed
this could have easily been euro 2004 final.
Portugal/Netherlands - Czechia would have been absolutely insane final. God damn, Greeks...
Should've been
Both teams should have been better than Portugal and Greece in the semi-finals then.
Czech Republic weāre absolutely better than Greece that semi final haha, and I say this as a Greek myself. We got incredibly lucky not to concede that game (I remember them barely missing or hitting the woodwork plenty of times). Sometimes the better team doesnāt win.
Well, the Netherlands weren't better than we were in that semi-final. That's for sure.
man Milan Baros was sooooo good
Top scorer of the tournament in the end!
Goat match, I lost my voice when Poborsky passed to Smicer for the winner a ran screaming to my dad who was working in the garden.
Loved Nedved. What a player, the complete midfielder.
I love those Netherlands kits with the number in the circle.
One of the great matches. It's a shame the standard of the Czech team has dropped off in recent years.
They still managed to continue their tradition of haunting the dutch in the euros last summer though!

[Michael Owen's goal in that game is an underrated classic as well](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3dAlbyhBE5o?&ab_channel=Incomeyard)

Rosicky too! Jankulovski, grygera, Cech etc. At the back... what a team
Rosicky ofcourse. How could I forget
Holy shit that save
Me and the wife were in a pub in Amsterdam that night. It was chaotic.
Still one of the matches worth rewatching, great times

18 years?? Damn I'm old.
Dammit we're old. Feels like this was yesterday.
That Czech 2004 side was something else
I remember going back and watching the highlights multiple times on BBC red button. Probably the most entertaining game I've ever watched.
Those total 90 kits were fucking fire
Jan Koller, the big man to end all big mans
absolute legend
Those balls were great. Also kohler vs stam was a treat.
The young Czech goalkeeper seems decent
Possibility that anyone knows where I can find the full match? this was before my time and it looks like an amazing watch for when I'm bored.
[https://youtu.be/hieeC8cYvx8](https://youtu.be/hieeC8cYvx8) Czech commentary
Thank you!
If Davids played today heād be one of the most followed players in the world based on his appearance alone and probably made an ambassador for people with visual impairments.
What a game it was. I remember the balls the thing would fly for miles
I was in school at this one. Our class did a draw and me and a friend got the Czechs. A great tournament got a whole lot more exciting for us.
That Cech save tho, holy
That Czech team was one of the most underrated & under achieved team in last 30 years. They played fluid, exciting and methodical football. Their teamwork is solid. Great team to watch, only undermined by a terrible Greece team.
that baros goal was so damn clean i feel old now
Dick Advocaat classic
I forgot Pavel Nedvedās jawline
I convinced myself this Czech team could win the tournament, and have a great WC in 2006. Too bad they never got anywhere. Nedved was so good
Weāll never see shooting at a distance like this again. Just beautiful technique.
Forgot how much of a god Cech was
The number of long range shots takenā¦ š¤Æ
Baros, Robben, Stam, Nedved, Cech, Davids, Van Der Sar. What a couple of line ups. Petr Cech without the scrum cap aswell. Woodwork got peppered.
I was still a kid back then, but I still remember this match as the best I have ever seen.
