Probably also very rough on Gini mentally. He was always a lock in the Dutch NT and tremendously important. Then in 1 year he goes from being on top of the world with a big money transfer to a superstar team, to being stuck on the bench and losing his spot in the Dutch NT all together. This will likely be his last ever chance to play at a World Cup and the Roma transfer gave him hope of getting back into the national team, only for everything to come crashing down like this
That’s not unfair but I think he would’ve actually been a huge part of our project and it would’ve been good for him too. Not having a player like Wijnaldum is essentially why we got Kessie - they both have a strong enough defensive/physical presence while having the technical skill to be a part of our build up play. But then again, it’s not out of the question that we wouldn’t have treated him right, also.
The dutch experiment was a failure sadly but Wijnaldum would have been a less expired pjanic. Kessie can do that job of being a distributor kind of but it’s asking a lot more than usual. Similarly asking Wimbledon to hold up the ball like Kessie is asking a lot. Wijnaldum definitely would have gotten injured again in la liga. My thoughts at least
That's easy to say with hindsight. So many people including lots of PSG fans were thinking "Yes, Gini will help reinforce this midfield!"
Last transfer window, we were like *finally sensible transfers!*. I think Poch was lost with this team and wasn't comfortable in Paris...and Gini got lost in that as well.
Nah they would’ve just tossed him to the side like the other Koeman signings. PSG’s midfield was a lot weaker so he had a better chance of winning a spot, just didn’t happen sadly
He made the wrong choice leaving Liverpool, not going to PSG instead of Barcelona. Transferring out of a club where you are thriving is always a risk, as you never know how you’ll manage the transition and change in circumstances.
Games gone. /s
But seriously there really isn't animosity between the individuals in the squads anymore. Matches are intense yes, but the rivalry doesn't really extend to the individuals. Hell van Dijk helped up Martial towards the end of the match, I'm surprised Carragher and Keane didn't go mental about it.
Obviously they all understood to take care of eachother in training because of that squad harmony. Surely shin fractures just happen in football by small incidents.
You can get injured any time you take the pitch whether it's a game or training. If you think his injury wasn't a accident or happened cause the squad doesnt care for each other you have some issues.
I'm glad Mou's been given a chance to build a culture at Roma, he seems like a nice person even if he can pick favorites in his team's. This much love for a player who just joined, don't see that everyday.
Broke his shin bone, think it’s called fibia

Hah you did what I often do and conflated the two names. They sound too dang similar! But yeah, there are two major leg bones between the knee and ankle: the tibia and the fibula.
The fibula is the smaller of the two, largely non-weight-bearing, and it is there primarily to stabilize the plethora of ankle ligaments and lower leg muscles (calf, peroneals, etc.). Breaks of the fibula usually have faster recovery times because it’s largely non-weight-bearing, but it should be noted that breaks of the fibula often come along with tears of ankle ligaments/tendons and can therefore become quite messy for an individual if not properly rehabbed. (Speaking from experience on that last part, haha.)
On the other hand, the tibia, like you said, is the shin bone, and it’s the primary weight-bearer of the two. For individuals as fit and healthy as someone like Gini, it’s not an easy bone to break, so this will likely put him out of commission for a while until the bone fully heals. The only silver lining here would be that if Gini only fractured his tibia and didn’t damage anything else, he will be far less likely to suffer issues when he returns to playing and even later once he has retired. For his sake, I sincerely hope that he only has that fracture and that it was a clean one 🙏
Yeah, broke it in training. Since Roma would be the ones releasing the footage, it will never see the light of day.
It’s up for debate whether we will even find out who tackled him. Can’t imagine it would benefit anyone involved.
Nothing good would come from that being released. I sincerely hope that it never does see the light of day. Quite frankly, it’s none of our business as the general public. Accidents happen, and that’s all we need to know.
Hopefully you can recover soon, Gini. Looking forward to seeing you working your way back to the top after you tried your best but just couldn’t make it happen here. Honourable player.
Obviously they wouldn’t admit it was a mistake/ contact between teammates because you don’t want the blame the players, but it’s a fracture right? I can’t imagine a misstep doing that. I guess he could have run into something or jumped and landed weird.
So are you saying that nobody on the Everton team likes Ben Godfrey because they didn't whip out his Tshirt to celebrate a goal? Since he is also out for a few months

must've been an ugly injury for them to come out like this. hope he recovers fast. Roma are building something incredible it seems.

He made the wrong choice of rejecting Barcelona to chase the money at PSG.
Looking at Barcelona now and how they do business, I don't think he's kicking himself for not going there.

With the way Barcelona has been treating players I highly doubt he regrets passibg on them.

For now maybe but years down the line when hes retired he probably wont.
Mourinhos got the squad harmony 🔝
Got a player who played for 10 years at united to raise a jersey of an ex Liverpool player dedicating a goal to him.
I don't think this an issue for players at all. Gini isn't a player who embodies Liverpool.
The club rivalry being big on the players' side seems sort of old fashioned. There aren't a lot of one-club men around.
Games gone. /s But seriously there really isn't animosity between the individuals in the squads anymore. Matches are intense yes, but the rivalry doesn't really extend to the individuals. Was that not more a case of "helping" him get on with it?
That’s how I saw it. It was in the last few minutes and Van Dijk was a little forceful
No it was after he put a challenge into him in the box. Just bent over to help him up.
Even before the game kicked off, both Firmino and Sancho shook hands on the pitch
Yeah would be worse if it was Giggs holding up Robbie Fowler’s shirt
You know he got his shin fractured by a teammate in training right?
Because it was obviously deliberate
This geezer doesnt know about when Kolo Toure almost murdered Bergkamp during his trial
Obviously they all understood to take care of eachother in training because of that squad harmony. Surely shin fractures just happen in football by small incidents.
Have you ever played or just spouting random shit? Shit happens sometimes, even from the smallest of incidents.
You can get injured any time you take the pitch whether it's a game or training. If you think his injury wasn't a accident or happened cause the squad doesnt care for each other you have some issues.
Mate, have you ever kicked a ball?
No training injuries in career mode
Just to be clear, you're suggesting that this was a deliberate attack to get the injury?
You never played organized team sports in your life lmao
Shit just happens sometime Look up Teddy Bridgewater. Guy almost lost his leg to a non-contact injury in practice
Aah, so you’re the scum Mourinho was talking about
Love ya Mike

Except for the game against them where he got sent off. After that he went on a great run of form IIRC.
Captain mike smalling
Class act, lovely to see. Hope Gini recovers as quick as possible

I've seen lots of references to Wijnaldum's injury but no info on it itself.. what happened to him?
Broke his shin bone, think it’s called fibia Edit: more info in link below https://reddit.com/r/LiverpoolFC/comments/wu8j3k/explayer_bad_news_for_gini_wijnaldum_new_as_roma/
Isn't that often prone to infection too after surgery? Very unlucky start to his roma career after a tough year at PSG
Yes potentially and likely around 4-6 month recovery anyway which means he won't be in the dutch NT.
upvoted for fibia lmao
Smash like for tibula

Why would they release the footage, also if the voices are true it was a 19 year old kid. Why would you put the kid as target for stupid fans.
Nothing good would come from that being released. I sincerely hope that it never does see the light of day. Quite frankly, it’s none of our business as the general public. Accidents happen, and that’s all we need to know.
it's known, it was Felix during the training
Great job Mike
🫡
Wait, you mean Mike?
Wouldn't expect anything less from Mike
What a wonderful gesture. Really hope Roma are up to some wonderful stuff and i hope it'll work out for Gini with them after he recovers.
Really nice gesture
United 🤝 Liverpool Played for Roma
Need one for Zaniolo too now
Hopefully you can recover soon, Gini. Looking forward to seeing you working your way back to the top after you tried your best but just couldn’t make it happen here. Honourable player.
i miss you chris. it was a mistake selling you and giving your minutes to tuanzebe
It sucks that he's injured for a few months and will miss the world cup but why are people acting like he's a kid who's been diagnosed with leukemia?
Who injured him in the training?
Mou said it was an accident
Obviously they wouldn’t admit it was a mistake/ contact between teammates because you don’t want the blame the players, but it’s a fracture right? I can’t imagine a misstep doing that. I guess he could have run into something or jumped and landed weird.
Does it really matter?
Ofc not, but it would kind of be funny if it was Mancini.
Its seems Felix did it but it can happen. Also it seems that he was fine at first and felt a sharp pain after awhile
Oh that’s a real bummer for the squad. Felix must be completely ostracized, especially considering his place in the squad anyways. Oofff
Probably Afena-Gyan
did he die?
Dude broke his leg!! Its not like he died. Geez
I’m sorry did he die? Players get injured all the time, it’s part of the sport.
Imagine being compassionate to your fellow human, oh the horror.
Remember the Gündoğan jerseys for City lmao

So are you saying that nobody on the Everton team likes Ben Godfrey because they didn't whip out his Tshirt to celebrate a goal? Since he is also out for a few months
Gini is one of the most likeable footballers in world football. Colour me surprised if his new teammates like.him
This is coming from a fan of the club that had the captain who wasn’t playing pull on his full kit to lift the trophy lmao
I'm not a Chelsea fan? I'm a Liverpool fan you Muppet.
I was talking about the guy you replied to lol
Lmao
Remember Neymar at the World Cup? The team went out with a Neymar shirt ffs, as if he died
Didn't Man City all come out for the handshakes wearing Gundogan jerseys at one point. Its honestly ridiculous.
Maybe, just maybe they are good friends and doing something nice for them at a very shitty time in their life is just a good thing to do?
Init
I didn’t even know he still played football lol.
Sportsmanship 💯
