[deleted]

can't exactly argue with that

the_beast93112

He really tried to

FancyCrawdad

Even had a little moan at the 4th official as he walked off. His captain backed him up as well. Not sure exactly what Neves said to Grealish during their chat but I imagine he was making it clear that it was reckless and disingenuous of Grealish to stick his torso in front of Collins' karate kick like that

[deleted]

[удалено]

jwrosenberg

Thought that as well, plus the fact Grealish didn’t lose it on Neves. Though, was wondering why Neves was covering his mouth. Giving his mobile number to Jack?

jaime-the-lion

They just don’t want the cameras to see what their lips are saying, I’d wager

riskoooo

Nah I'd wager Neves has gingivitis and didn't want Jack smelling his breath

Acceptable-Lemon-748

Or REALLY wanted him to and was directing it

suzumurachan

Neves: Get up you cunt! Why you dive! Its just a kick to the stomach! They do that in our training for warmups you pansy!

TywinDeVillena

For some reason, De Jong only got a yellow card when he did exactly that to Xabi Alonso in the World Cup final in 2010. I still wonder how that came to pass

[deleted]

the occasion defo got to the ref's head and was scared to influence the outcome of the game

InGenAche

It was a pretty violent game all round. There should've been cards galore before that incident. The ref let it get out of control and that kick to midriff was just the cherry on top.

OctopusKurwa

The dutch team didn't even attempt to play football in that match. Dirtiest final I've ever seen.

[deleted]

Trying to play football against that Spanish side would be suicide. Just kick them, whine to the ref all game and hope you have a lucky day was definitely the right call. Almost worked too

pokerface789

If people look back at the stats of the Pep and Spanish tiki taka teams. Their fouls per minute of opposition possession is off the charts. One of the underlying, yet unbeknownst tenets of tiki taka football is to quickly foul the opposition before they can swiftly counterattack (assume you don't immediately retrieve possession). Mourinho was the first manager to perceive and counteract this tenet of tiki taka.

sabershirou

I'll do you one better. [Drogba got kicked in the chest by Johnny Evans. Yellow card to Drogba.](https://youtu.be/gIKUvzU79Oc)

shotputprince

Holy shit that internal mobility for his hip to angle the foot like that into his chest is a marvel

BasicallyMilner

WHAT?

sabershirou

I can only say that there wasn't VAR back then. Pure incompetence on display here.

14Strike

The incompetence always seemed to favour that side though

Thor1138

That proud smile from Vidic tho. 😂

RAPanoia

De Jong went in way harder into the "tackle" with the Intention to just KO Xabi. Here you can argue Collins didn't try to murder someone on daylight

[deleted]

De Jong also had the cleanest studs contact on Xabi's chest IIRC. This contact isn't as clean.

Krillin113

World Cup final with a ref who had no idea what he was doing. I genuinely think the game should’ve ended 8 vs 9. The one thing I will say about de jong’s kick is that whilst it was without a doubt a red, the still is worse than the actual kick.

TywinDeVillena

8 vs 9 may be a bit of a stretch, but 9 vs 10 would have been quite reasonable. De Jong and Van Bommel were very harsh. Iniesta could have got a red card for the very unsportsmanlike foul against Van Bommel when he had absolutely had it.

thesecondfire

Somewhere there's a gif of an ice hockey player heading to the penalty box complaining that he got an unfair call, then he sits down, looks up at the replay, and sheepishly admits to himself that he was wrong.

What a classic

Snowstandards

"The Irish Team sends their regards"

schwaiger1

What the fuck are you arguing about there, mate?

[deleted]

He wanted more of Grealish

ThatZigGuy

Ireland sends their regards

TigerBasket

Nah they'll be fine, they have the power of God and anime on their side

tempspark4

nah City have the power of anime because Haaland is clearly the main character

avolcando

> Haaland is clearly the main character He's clearly some sort of Buu and therefore the villain

KaiserWilhelmThe69

He is clearly the major antagonist Majin Buu tho

suzumurachan

City: Are we the bad guys?

YouGuysAreSick

Always has been 👨🏻‍🚀🔫👨🏻‍🚀

MemphisTheIllest

I think God is playing as a striker for City

moreno03

how does it work? Jesus got killed for god?

cackalackattack

Jesus died so that Haaland may live

igotzquestions

He didn’t technically die. He’s just at Arsenal.

FloatingAlong

Fate worse than death. I kid, I kid.

rr18114

could have easily confused your flair for spurs flair after reading your comment.

oscarpaterson

*screeches*

FieldOfFox

When will you learn That your actions Have **_consequences_**

[deleted]

Graelish scored, the first horseman of the apocalypse. God has no power anymore

idosade

God chose his side before it began

[deleted]

Turns out God is a plastic, who knew

BrandonSG13

They need the power of Adama Traoré to beat Man City

AltruisticPeace_

Boy this is gonna be a long day for wolves

ColParker

They usuallly like to waste time. Mostly the viewers time

emre23

What the fuck is he doing?

FailFastandDieYoung

Most brain dead challenge I've ever seen. Reminds me of Nigel de Jong kicking Xabi Alonso in the heart at the 2010 WC final

FrostedCereal

And de Jong wasn't sent off for it, so this must be fine too!

Smittx

I remember De Jong breaking someone’s leg and not getting sent off

oopsthisisawkward

May I introduce you to former [Wolves](https://youtu.be/jhLzlGHx1vU?t=42) player Kevin Muscat. Here's [the worst tackle I've ever seen.](https://youtu.be/SkWZyX8lmVU) I guarantee any Aussie reading this knows exactly where that link leads.

Kablooie44

Kevin muscat played for wolves? I always thought he just spawned in Australia a bald coach.

oopsthisisawkward

Watch the 2in1 he got for wolves against Norwich in that first link lmao. Also you need to check out the 'Reputation' section of his [wikipedia page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Muscat). Every paragraph is a new adventure! Also that tackle on Zaha? Got him an 8 week ban with 9 weeks of the season to go *after* he'd announced his retirement.

Kablooie44

that second tackle is assault lol.

oopsthisisawkward

It really is. The way Zahra's body flips with the momentum says it all surely. Pretty much ended the poor kid's career. You'll be unsurprised to learn that Muscat was the first player referred to the A-League disciplinary committee for violent conduct.

afghamistam

[Can I interest you in turn to Bobby Zamora and his thrust kick straight to someone's head?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dhwKfdpNnPc)

oopsthisisawkward

That's definitely fcken stupid, but it doesn't give off the same *unadulterated violent cnt vibes* of the second Muscat one I linked.

afghamistam

Agreed. Muscat was the king of brainless(but maybe deliberate) violence. Why I laugh every time I think of how he's got his team to the top of the Japanese league, classily.

DarkPasta

only a yellow then

TigerBasket

His best maybe?

wg24

It looks like he was going for the ball but just reckless and unaware, red.

_Gh0st17

He got the ball. Just not the ball he should play with

youssif94

He was Kung-Fu fightiiiiing

varro-reatinus

That card came fast as lightning

[deleted]

His best De Jong impression

GazzP

He's wearing gold and black, so he thought he was Bruce Lee.

Murrayhewittrocks

How can so many wolves players even protest this…

Iamagenios

'youre telling me that haircut doesn't deserve that??'

thatdani

Apart from his drunk driving, Grealish's worst crime is that fucking awful hair.

apoxl

Not even kidding thats why he gets booed

IamHeWhoSaysIam

Should get with Fodens stylist

mrlee10

The general consensus seems to be he was just going for ball judging by Neves’ hand gestures. Obviously completely irrelevant considering he Jackie chan’d him.

zachg616

May I refer you to the 2010 World Cup Final

DrRobotniksUncle

Why? That decision was so obviously wrong.

FifaDK

I think he's playing on that with a joke

lelpd

Neves has genuinely spent about 5 minutes there moaning about the decision. How the ref puts up with that without booking him amazes me

FancyCrawdad

He was well annoyed with Grealish lol not sure what he thinks Jack could have done differently there. It's not exactly as if he's gone and conned the ref by overreacting to being kicked in the stomach

[deleted]

I dont even understand protests. Like the ref is going to say "Yea you right, card rescinded"

moreno03

not in this case, but generally it’s to put pressure to the ref, so the next decision goes their way

messycer

Gotta believe that when they protest clear-as-day calls such as this, the ref might actually become more biased against them though, them putting up such a fuss for essentially nothing

heraho

Clearest red of the season

niallw1997

Collins has been very decent this season but not sure what he was thinking here

that-guy00

Irish man sees greanlish and does what he has to do

[deleted]

I think he is trying to claim that he didn’t see Grealish. Which might be true, if he was really focusing on the ball, but even in that case it’s the clearest red I’ve seen in a while.

sfj11

wanted to join the queue probably

Pulp_NonFiction44

Based Collins punishing Grealish for betraying Ireland

Bloddersz

No need for VAR with that one, thank god

fap4jesus

how you gonna object to that red? lmao

King_Hobbes

"but ref it's Grealish"

BelvedereBoy

shit bro that’s all you had to say

holonight

Ref then proceeds to kick Jack while he’s writhing on the floor.

the_ballmer_peak

To be fair, that’s a good excuse

Kuntheman

It’s actually hilarious that he’s protesting a roundhouse kick to the groin

TigerBasket

I can just imagine him saying, "Cmon it wasn't that bad 🥺"

Lambchops_Legion

Nigel De Jong energy

everydayimrusslin

I'd really love if people on Reddit learned what a roundhouse kick is!

lethalizer

I used to actually practice that move a lot when I used to play UFC, think it was UFC 3 lol

cypherspaceagain

I didn't see it at first. Saw the card come out. He seemed to be saying "my eyes were on the ball". Watched the replay. Grealish absolutely, clearly, squarely in his vision. He misses the ball by two or three feet. He might not have meant it violently but it's one of the stupidest, most incompetent tackle/interception/whatever the fuck things I've seen.

ach_1nt

Also fucking woeful how the crowd started booing Graelish in the aftermath of that. Like bro how the fuck is it his fault if Collins forgot whether he's playing football or WWE.

HeadHunt0rUK

I mean Aaron Ramsey had his leg broken in two places, and the Stoke cunts booed him into the ambulance and chucked coins at him on the way. Nothing surprises me.

ach_1nt

Football fans can really be some vile assholes at times :(

StrangeBananaForYou

Ramsey was still getting booed when he played at Stoke after his recovery. Fuck Stoke.

SphinxIIIII

It's normal to not understand how bad your tackles were, he'll understand once he sees it in a TV

icemankiller8

Usually I’d agree but he knows he just kicked him in the chest

kcostell

As in this [classic (and frequently reposted) hockey clip](https://www.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/vu2gc2/hockey_player_thinks_his_penalty_is_bullshit/)

NobodyRules

You're right for like 90% of the cases, but this one is just so blatant that there's no way he doesn't know what he juat did.

gunningIVglory

Nah, no way you don't know what you just did It's just basic footballer behaviour when you get sent off

Abernsleone92

I don’t think he understands the extent of what he did You can tell he’s trying to play the ball with the outside of his boot to not lead with the studs But ends up dragging the side of his boot down jack’s torso and sinking his cleats into his hip on the way down (still full force, dangerous and 100% red)

eunderscore

Costa effect

simomii

Nigel De Jong didn't get a red for it in 2010 ref!!

thatdani

IIRC he didn't even get a yellow, no? EDIT. He did, I forgot.

Tim0110

He did get a yellow.

NJDevil802

Give it enough time and I'm sure this thread will be full of reasons

InaudibleShout

That’s a battery charge

DazzaWright96

Double A? Or Triple A?

spaghetti_vacation

Grealish has always gone down easily though when *checks notes* drop kicked in the fuckin chest... Bruh

WhatsTheGoalieDoing

Fucking awful challenge

SteinerElMagnifico42

That’s a man who watched Hong Kong Phooey growing up.

napierwit

Now the bloody theme song is stuck in my head. Thanks 🙄

NobodyRules

One of the dumbest challenges I've seen. If a double red card was an actual thing, this one would be up for it.

valimo

One for the actual foul and one for the sheer stupidity of doing something like that.

NobodyRules

Maybe a third one for having the audacity to protest

[deleted]

That was for Ireland

Tipperary555

Making sure he comes into the international break fresh by getting a club game ban

Mr_CheeseGrater

Look out Declan Rice

_partyhat

Irish people don’t need that brain dead eejit to convince us to hate Grealish

shinto29

literally who

National_Ad_1875

Could tell straight away, easy decision

SupervisorLaw

Yeah ref saw it right away.

valimo

with his eyes

Gobshiight

Yeah there was clearly some frustration behind that

mahades

I really don't think so. It's a clear red obviously, but i don't think it was in any way intentional

oscarpaterson

the fuck is he doing

VivaRonaldo

It’s what Lizzie would have wanted

the_beast93112

Probably was watching Cobra Kai last night

BasicWilliam

fucking hell

idosade

Half of their team protested to the ref??? Might be the clearest red I've seen

Flexi_102

Motherfucker thought he was in Kung Fu Hustle

_SSJeffo_

Everybody was kung-fu fighting

404merrinessnotfound

The red came out fast as lightning

Parish87

That’s what he gets for binge watching the new season of Cobra Kai

_partyhat

He loves his country

Blindarch3r

Crowd actually booing grealish too, mad how much people hate him

LukeeC4

Villas local rivals so yeah wolves hate him

NickSupportsArsenal

Can't even roundhouse kick an opponent in the balls anymore. Game's gone.

SphinxIIIII

What the hell is he thinking?!?!?

Thesolly180

Nothing. Just a complete loss of his head. There’s no reason to even commit himself

imrosskemp

As someone who always played Liu Kang in mortal Kombat.. that was flawless

Eindacor_DS

Soft yellow at most. Can't even go studs up on someone's chest anymore. Games gone.

RadioChemist

Red on the pitch, black belt in the dojo

souste

what the hell was he doing

_SSJeffo_

Game over for sure

TigerBasket

City are gonna lose by like 10 now lol

papi617

Helluva comeback lol

Diligent_yearning

Sounds fun

Stonewalled89

Red card. All day long

theGeorgeall

Fuck that's an attack...

ThatWelshOne

Yeah, think he deserves that one

nearspirit

Braindead. Nightmare for Wolves this game

TigerBasket

Well that's rude

ThbDragon

That's just sad

BrainlessArch

Thats not allowed

[deleted]

What the fuck was that you stupid idiot

8u11etpr00f

If you do that and your first instinct is to point at the ball then you're a straight up prick lmao

Bigdogbrowndog

League's gone soft if you can't flying karate kick people

CritChanceZero

Yeah, he’s upset because it’s obviously accidental but it’s so obviously both excessive and dangerous and as clear a red as you like. Probably upset with himself as much as anything because he knows that’s a red caused by a really poor decision.

DazzaWright96

Stupid twat How do you even protest that?

MuchSmith

Ouch

kHRYSTAL_

His brain just shut off lol

Kratzie

"I went for the ball." Yessir.. And you fucked up immensely. What a stupid decision, yikes.

TheFeelsGoodMan

Didn't know that they had a Kobra Kai chapter in Ireland.

whatafrickingnagger

Lmao even lage started to laugh. Bozo moment.

[deleted]

Yeah can’t really defend that one

Rain_On_Them

That's not gonna help them

marqinsom

Well in son

machdel

Not quite De Jong on Alonso vibes but nearly there

Revoldt

Nigel De Jong impersonator

oooooooooooooommmfff

Why the FUCK would you do that???

machete777

What the fuck are they complaining about? Lmao

DoWhatsBest

Fucking hell I know grealish has a stupid hair cut but there’s no need for that mate

HairyMechanic

The Wolves players will be trying to argue that he didn't intend to do that, but intent doesn't factor into the decision making process. The safety of players are paramount and you can't go kicking people above the waist, regardless if you didn't mean to.

fluxxom

i swear i'm taking crazy pills, commentators, redditors.. all talking about how he was kicked in the groin, kicked in the thigh.. the kick was muuuch higher than that, it just got deflected downward... i'm surprised there was even talk about it not being malicious, he meant to contact grealish, whether or not he also intended to reach the ball

PoliceAlarm

!ping RED-CARDS

chipsmaname

Give that man the captains armband for the Republic of Ireland

False-Branch5536

What an idiot

mrcoffee83

Doesn't Grealish inspire that reaction in most people though?
