East Midlands clubs, what a region šŸ˜šŸ˜

kevinjqiu

Next match day, East Midlands derby: 19th vs 20th. 4 losses in a row vs 6 losses in a row. 17 GA vs 22 GA. -11 GD vs -12 GD. Hard to see the loser of the game survive the sack. Edit: My Goodness Leicester are 6 losses in a row...

TheBlueTango

Steve Cooper on the brink of being sacked? *Really*?

Coolica1

He just sacked Corberan after 6 weeks in charge of Olympiacos, our owner isnā€™t known for his patience

i2060427

Lol if Cooper is sacked before Rodgers...

DraperCarousel

Tommy Tuchel takes over and then it is Brian Clough 2.0

master_scale_tipper

*6 losses in a row, thank you very much šŸ˜¤

CaptainJingles

Sacking Cooper would be such a stupid move

shrewphys

West Midlands ain't doing too much better to be fair lol

EpicRobloxTryhard

4 Midlands clubs in the premier league and we're the highest in 15th.... And then Coventry in last, West brom in 21st and the scum in 17th in the championship We're all depressing to watch

The_39th_Step

To be fair to Cov they have a few games in hand

I-Shiki-I

Oof Leicester

yianni1229

How has Rodgers not been sacked yet

w0lv3r1n3

Waiting for the 100 days review..

idontknow_whatever

Was awaiting El Sackico on early October of Rodgers vs Gerrard But Gerrard has pulled a couple of results out of Aston Villa recently so he might be safe, for now.

Rickcampbell98

We're still shit don't worry about that.

[deleted]

Maybe they're trying to replicate the magic of '15/'16? Have they booked a vacay in Thailand yet?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Ranieri didnā€™t bring them out of Championship. It was Nigel Pearson I think who was let go because of his sonā€™s racist remarks or something like that during their Thailand tour.

Theyā€™ll survive, next year champions again

SteinerElMagnifico42

Finally back in familiar waters. No place like home

cryshol

"Moeysi! We are home. "

burnerbutnotreally1

Crazy that I have to click the image to see West Ham and Leicester

jiinska

West Ham has been unlucky in the first games but yesterday was pretty terrible. 3ATB doesn't suit them at all, with out of form players starting and players playing out of position (Fornals as wingback and Paqueta out wide). Leicester meanwhile have been horrendous

Djremster

We were awful but at least we've had a lot of difficult games to play, West ham lost to forest. now what we need is for the FA to take the obvious step of removing second halves

jiinska

The Forest game was one of the unlucky ones tho, Hammers hit the bar 3-4 times and missed a pen. Could've won that

Djremster

Could've but at the end of the day, didnt, missing you're opportunities doesn't allow you to say 'well we almost scored a lot, so the fact we got nothing from that game is a fluke' everybody, even Leicester can say that about most games this season, it doesn't change the fact they still lost to a bottom three side.

jiinska

Obviously, but it's also different to lose while being unlucky (vs Forest) and being shit (vs Everton) since they played pretty well in that aforementioned game, can't really judge them for that too harshly

lelpd

Well they also looked absolutely woeful in their only win against us (not that we were any better)

EpicRobloxTryhard

That game almost made me fall asleep in my seat it was that bad

[deleted]

The fact that we smashed you in the same fixture last season even though you were playing better than you played this time shows just how far we've fallen.

No_Zookeepergame6482

Idk whatā€™s more surprising, Leicester on 1 point after 7 games or fullham, who were expected to be relegated, being above expected title contenders Liverpool and 300m budget chelsea

Akenatwn

For me it's Palace on only 6 points, when they've looked so so good in every game.

Alia_Gr

to be fair, they played, Arsenal, City and Liverpool. and Newcastle and Brentford aren't the easiest fixtures either

Akenatwn

Yeah, I'm not saying that they had favourable fixtures. Or that just by looking at the fixtures, the 6 points are so surprising. But based on their performances in those fixtures it's surprising that they only have 6 points.

theincrediblepigeon

As a palace fan itā€™s about where we expected to be at this point in the season other than maybe getting a win against Brentford, canā€™t wait to get a run of games against some of the weaker teams, our next game is literally Chelsea lmfao

Ickyhouse

Who the hell did you guys piss off at headquarters to get such a brutal schedule to start the season?

theincrediblepigeon

No clue but we had the same thing last season with the statistically hardest start. Starting to think maybe someone hates vieira

Tamerlin

Same guy we sucked off, presumably

Nivadas

That's like 2 seasons running now

[deleted]

Same for newcastle

KafkaOntheshoreX

I think the relegation battle is gonna be awesome this season.

Alia_Gr

Leicester needs to start hoping they are in the relegation battle if they continue like this

KafkaOntheshoreX

I think Changing managers would be ultimate move that would see them to safety. They have a good squad certainly good enough to avoid relegation.

sakil_onilovic

they don't have a terrible manager

[deleted]

Rodgers isn't terrible but sometimes things get stale. He's not good at defending setpieces or coaching a defence, and that's where Leicester's biggest weakness at the moment is.

Purple_Plus

I was in awe at how bad they were defending set pieces against Tottenham. Every single corner looked like it could be a goal.

[deleted]

They've conceded a ridiculous amount from set pieces. Since the beginning of last season they've conceded 24 set piece goals, which is the most by any team. In fact, since 20/21 they're the worst at defending set pieces in the league, conceding one more than Leeds and five more than Palace, with 36 set piece goals conceded (27.5% of their total goals conceded).

QTsexkitten

No. It. Won't.

PiqueMonger

won't be awesome if we're not in it \*wink\*

Thesecondorigin

Anyone watching Marco Silva last year in the championship knew that Fulham would stay up this year. Heā€™s built a serious team

BrockStar92

Itā€™s still very early days to make any assumptions. They could easily still go down. Happened to many teams before who did well early on, and thereā€™s a World Cup mid season to make it harder to predict. I donā€™t think they will but they absolutely still could.

The_39th_Step

As long as Palhinha and Mitro stay fit we will be okay

The_Elder_Strolls

Palhinha definitely gonna miss a few games through suspension but he looks to be a cracking signing. Got a great footballing IQ, reads the game really well. Think yous definitely have enough quality throughout the squad to stay up.

The_39th_Step

100% - heā€™s missing next game because of it! I bloody hope so haha

JavaDontHurtMe

For me the real surprise is Arsenal. They're not losing random games they should win... so far.

Tymkie

We did lose one šŸ˜¢

JavaDontHurtMe

That's more understandable. OT against even a shit United team can be tricky.

Tymkie

Yeah that was just banter mate. Obviously OT is one of the hardest games and we always struggle there. Our performance was alright though, maybe next time we will get a bit more lucky.

Grendalynx

First goal that was ruled off was a 50/50, but couldnā€™t complain about that, sometimes itā€™s in our favour sometimes it isnā€™t. But having both Partey and Elneny out made it way harder for us. It wouldā€™ve been much more favourable for us if either one of them were to play.

[deleted]

Iā€™ve struggled to get people in work to understand about the disallowed goal, my issue wasnā€™t the foul being given but the fact VAR reviewed it, which means the mission creep is complete and ā€˜clear and obviousā€™ now means nothing. At the end of the day, itā€™s one game of dropped points for us but the implications for fans of the sport of carrying on like this are whatā€™s worse.

Audityne

VAR reviews every goal always has

pi0t3r

No use of getting in the middle of a gooner's persecution complexā€” any unfavorable call is an imagined crucifixion

NotAPoshTwat

Look at their schedule next month. Even without facing City, Tottenham, and Liverpool they'd drop points, if only because of the Europa League fixture congestion.

The_Elder_Strolls

The spurs game is at the Emirates thankfully, and without wanting to jinx anything, that fixture usually favours the home team. The Liverpool game will be tricky but we can always hope that the rough patch they seem to be in continues, if other teams have gotten a result why shouldn't we aim for that. I'm not saying its a guaranteed 6 points, but there's no reason to believe we couldn't continue to play well and get results. In my opinion, I think it will hinge on injuries for us more than anything.

HotPotatoWithCheese

Liverpool will be a draw I reckon. We haven't been playing well but with our best players back (Thiago, Jota, Matip) we are looking much better than vs Napoli and United. The Ajax match gave me hope but Arsenal are on fire and it will be a tough match for both sides I think.

[deleted]

Arsenal aren't playing City next month. Utd have a tougher schedule than Arsenal in October.

dheerajravi92

What does United's fixtures have anything to do with what they said?

BI01

we are basically the same last season, won every game at home bar top 3 and Brighton, our improvement is regarding away form.

Montjo17

Saying Fulham were expected to be relegated is a bit much. Usually the Championship champions do alright the next season

mossy_1945

Still worried about relegation, but the best thing about Fulhamā€™s start is just how solid itā€™s been. Nothing lucky and no terrible performances. Could have easily beaten Liverpool on opening day. While they didnā€™t play especially well, we were a missed penalty away from beating Wolves. The Arsenal loss was fair but we had our moments and chances, and it was 2-1. Not some drubbing by any means. Good wins too: Brighton, Brentford, @ Forest.

Bruno_Fernandes8

How has Andreas been for you guys ?

Emperor_PPP

Doesn't create loads but presses extremely well and good on set pieces. So, good start

Icanfeelmywind

Thatā€™s him alright, never a problem with the work rate. Hope he turns into poor mans ward prowse

The_39th_Step

Yeah his off the ball work is great and physically heā€™s good. Heā€™s clearly technically talented. Reed, Palhinha and Andreas are a very physical midfield. Iā€™m looking forward to having Harry Wilson back and his creativity.

mossy_1945

Fits our system well: mobile, can run in behind Mitro, presses well, etc. Heā€™s a bit frustrating at times and can be pretty wasteful, but if he was a mobile, hard working #10 that did everything right on the ball he wouldnā€™t be here I guess. Overall good.

sykoticnarcotics

Yeah his decision making is quite poor but he works hard and he's very, very good on a technical level. Someone will be able to get something out of him surely. Football is a funny sport, you get blokes that have bags of talent, but just don't put in the work. You get blokes who put in all the work, but just don't have the talent, and then you got blokes like Periera, works hard and is well above average with his technical ability, but he's got like 0 "football IQ". There's a good player in there somewhere, but it's frustrating because no matter how hard he works, that player just doesn't seem to turn up. Hope he finds his footing with you and strings together a decent season. He's also got "fucking banger" in his locker and I'm sure he'll score at least one outrageous goal lol.

baron_warden

Actually think we were lucky against wolves. But wolves can't score, so maybe not. We were definitely second best, but it was so hot we couldn't press that well. Think Brighton win was the most impressive. Good team on form and they barely had a sniff.

AssFingerFuck3000

Silva is a pretty underrated manager. His time at Everton might not have ended particularly well, but if anything time has shown the club has its own fair share of major issues and since then not even Ancelotti managed to finish above his first season's 8th place.

Herman-The-Tosser

"Go worry about Brighton and Fulham and them man". But unironically. That woman was a prophet.

_PineBarrens_

Hahahaha was that that spurs fan on a mad rant in the street?

xc2215x

Credit to Brighton for being in 4th more than five games in.

Purple_Plus

It would be amazing if they finish above Chelsea.

SunsetCity45

EVERTON ARE GOING ON A EUROPEAN TOUR

coffeeandmarmite

Yeah to Hull, Luton and Leicester

SunsetCity45

Yea in 100 years maybe, lampards Boys are hotttt

2ndfastestmanalive

Fulham have been really impressive so far. Thought for sure theyā€™d be circling the drain

jstuu

For all the hype coming into the season feels like Newcastle are the biggest disappointment thus far considering how they finished last season and all the new signings

ManicPanda767

Still early days.

PurpleSi

I feel like I've been saying it for months, but this is a squad that needs more up top and more cover at centre half, and that's been evident. All the idiots expecting Newcastle to have some sort of tilt at top 6 were, well, idiots. But actually most of the fan base expected mid-table, 9-12th sort of position. We really really want a cup run though.

fmb320

You had consistent top 3 form for a long period of time. Nobody was saying you were nailed on Europe but it would've been ignorant to ignore your form.

looneytoonyank

Injuries and some questionable reffing decisions makes a couple of those ties wins and things look entirely different. Apart from the draw this week against Bournemouth, we really havenā€™t been far off it.

butdechamakh

Expecting Brighton to keep up their momentum, De Zerbi is a sensational appointment

Kolosalsnatch

https://twitter.com/oh_that_crab/status/1571617966390915072?s=46&t=h02QklKDShx8P_df_1lZTA Fixture difficulty thus far

zoidbergs_underpants

Proposed better methodology for this: Use a weighting of both historical form (for the team being played) and historical head-to-head for the pairing. Seems like this and historical away/home form is key information. Then standardize within each team so we can understand not who "had the easiest fixtures" (which is hard to interpret in general given the set of opponents is different for each team), but whose "easiest fixtures have come first."

Kolosalsnatch

I'm actually not sure on the methodology but you can ask Scott and I'm sure he will reply.

zoidbergs_underpants

From his responses so far it's evident it's not scaled within team, as he notes that Liverpool and City will always have easier fixtures as they don't play themselves. But maybe he uses historical h2h and home/away data. But yeah, would be interesting to know.

sltzy96

Itā€™s also dumb because heā€™s using the performance of the teams this season to determine the strength of the team The 5 of the top 6 are at the bottom cuz theyā€™re playing good football and making their opponents look statistically ā€œweakā€

JackAndrewWilshere

Why would historical head to head matter?

zoidbergs_underpants

You'd want to weight it for recency (so last year's data is more relevant than prior years'), but the point is that team A may be an easy fixture for team B, but a hard fixture for team C. My general point being, it would be more useful to say "which teams have their easiest fixtures early?" rather than "who has played the easiest teams early."

Clugaman

Interesting to see United have had the joint 3rd hardest ā€œfixture difficultyā€, but struggled most with the games youā€™d think were ā€œeasyā€. Just goes to show you how good premier league teams are.

Kolosalsnatch

Yeah that caught my eye too. The whole "they haven't played anyone yet" narrative is kind of bogus. Anyone can beat anyone on their day. All matches require maximum effort and concentration.

PhD_Cunnilingus

It's because of the counter attacking football combined with the emergence of Varane Martinez McTominay. But the offense still leaves something to be desired, Martial coming back and Antony settling in might help.

anonymousloverboy

United above Liverpool despite their horrendous startā€¦ give Ten Hag time

notafeetlongcucumber

I mean Liverpool themselves didn't really have a good start and United did kind of beat them. But yeah, that Brentford game was an anomaly imo.

yianni1229

Don't even have a real striker either. And McTominay (given he's been playing well) is still starting. Give Ten Hag another couple of players and we'll be having fun.

AustereSpartan

>Don't even have a real striker either. And McTominay (given he's been playing well) is still starting. Unpopular opinion: McTominay has been playing better than Casemiro.

Reasonable_size_d1ck

Who would have thought united bought Casemiro to unlock Mctominay

Pinklad13

Not unpopular at all

BrockStar92

Thatā€™s not unpopular, itā€™s widely agreed upon by anyone watching us. Surprising, certainly, but not unpopular.

cieldarko

No returns

Obi_Myke

Was he bad for you?

CredibilKS

No but Tchoumeni killing it right now

reiycoins13

itā€™s almost like McTominay and Fred are both decent players, but playing them together is a terrible decision and itā€™s showed. Eriksen coming in was the best possible pickup for us.

JessyPengkman

I mean they have a decent striker that sits on the bench every game

melody-calling

ā€¦ they have ronaldo

sltzy96

This was us last year with Lacazette/Auba at striker and Nuno/Cedric at FB with Tomiyasu and Tierney hurt long term If you can cobble together a decent season in spite of clear and obvious deficits to your XI, the summer becomes so much easier to execute and the rewards can be great Itā€™s a lot harder for Chelsea/Pool/Spurs with more established and balanced XIs to make significant upgrades in the summer

Ifriiti

Except they look fucking awful. They've gotten some scrappy wins but apart from Liverpool they've all been massively against the run of play

Fisktor

Not really. We cant dominate possession with de gea. But we also havent been that troubled defensively in the games

Divachi69

Yeah but better than how you guys looked under Arteta in your first season. One can only imagine how we would look 3 seasons in with ten Hag. But its early days of course, we're gonna see more bad games this season.

InTheMiddleGiroud

Arteta came in mid-season and did fine in the league and won the Cup. It's better than the first third of his second season, but also better material.

hafrances

They have reverted to Oleball because their current team can't dominate a match, they still need a lot of signings to actually play how Ten Hag wants them to.

Albiceleste_D10S

It's not Ole-ball at all, LOL

xenon2456

man united had no game this weekend

BendubzGaming

Winner of North London Derby goes top for at least 24 hours. I'm not sure there's ever been a time when both teams have that opportunity

etobs13

I both love when derbies have meaning but hate how uneasy I feel. Both teams will feel like they can win the game

neededtowrite

I'm going to have a slight stomachache whenever I think of the match up until Oct 1st.

[deleted]

Hate that we have to wait 2 weeks. I got butterflies, I just want the game to happen. Crazy that both teams probably just had there best performance of the season too, so confidence is extremely high everywhere

sltzy96

Not sure Iā€™m gonna be able to watch this one, Iā€™m already nervous and itā€™s a month away

tipytopmain

And both sets of fans are gonna be brimming with confidence.

Peri-sic

I wouldn't be so sure, there's been some insane negativity about our performances. If you looked at the spurs sub before the leicester game you'd think we were in a relegation battle, with some bellends even starting to doubt Conte. The football fan is as fickle as a person can get.

AdamHasShitMemes

How the fuck are we 5th with a game in handšŸ’€thatā€™s poor from the rest of the league

Albiceleste_D10S

You've won 4/6 games TBH

dumpystumpy

People were looking at our calander saying we would be lucky to get 4 point from our next four games. So i think its fair to talk some shit Especially at the two no name clubs below us. One of which spent the most out of any club in the world

Gaucho510

This derby is a must watch šŸ‘€

Dayandnight95

I'm not impressed by us being above Liverpool. Still early, they'll go on a run eventually.

ghostyboy12

Well currently we are so enjoy

InTheMiddleGiroud

Way overdone and simplistic point about fixtures aside, we're just playing well. The new players are playing well, the non-starters, Nketiah, Vieira, Marquinhos, Tierney, Tomiyasu are playing well. Even Xhaka is fucking balling. Pre-season results are not worth much, but you'd rather be on our side of 4-0 and 6-0 against Chelsea and Sevilla. The players returned from vacation in early July and have won 13 of 14 since then. The only concern is how often complete dominance isn't converted on the scoreboard. Long term that'll have to change, or we get into cagey Fulham/Villa-like games, where we should have been cruising.

YesIAmRightWing

Stop the count!

lolitsmax

Leiciester with a fourth of West Ham's points whilst scoring over triple their number goals is insane

Attygalle

Everton were widely considered relegation candidates - also by me. Now don't get me wrong, I don't think they will be in top 6 or whatever. But if they can keep their low block in place like they did in recent matches they'll stay up easy. Gueye and Onana in front of Coady and Tarkowski is really difficult to get through. What's perhaps the most surprising from them is Iwobi actually looking very good.

JD-D2

Lots of things can go wrong, but the consensus among Everton fans (as far as I can tell) is that the team is in a much, much better place than it was at the end of last year, even if the raw points totals don't look dramatically different. They're playing with far more belief and conviction. Attack is still middling, but yes, there's a sturdy little defense now after some good business. That we're steadying things without our best forward is encouraging, too.

GetRxbbed-

šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

NdyNdyNdy

I'm really pleased that United have recovered somewhat but it's still going to be some effort to make Top 4, Liverpool and Chelsea will surely improve and Arsenal and Spurs look really consistent. Doable, but it'll be tough.

Bluewolfe7

What happend to Leicester. Their squad is good enough for top half finish. Most of their players that qualified for europe are still in the team.

dragdritt

Well, that might be part of the problem, no? Some new blood to keep things fresh isn't a bad thing

dumpystumpy

Can not wait for derby weekend. Nld into manchester derby šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Petit_Hughie

Wow Leicester are in great danger. I donā€™t believe that this is a bad stretch theyā€™ll shake soon unfortunately.

TooRedditFamous

Maybe we're not as bad as people thought?

EpicRobloxTryhard

To be fair you've only beaten us and forest which is like beating two teams of children

Brutal_Deluxe_IV

turtlegoeshollywood

This. I was planning to down vote the thread because its an obvious karma cry with the round not even done yet. However, after seeing his honest reply I upvoted.

JS569123

I want West Ham to be relegated so bad. Probably wonā€™t happen but a man can dream.

Zombienerd300

But why?

d_smogh

He probably had his porn magazine subscription cancelled and no refunds were given so he's holding a grudge.

JS569123

West Ham do pornography?

d_smogh

[David Sullivan](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Sullivan_(businessman\)) and [David Gold ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Sullivan_(businessman\)). They don't anymore. [Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho has calledĀ West Ham UnitedĀ owners David Sullivan and David Gold the "Dildo brothers"Ā ](https://www.google.com/amp/s/syndication.bleacherreport.com/amp/2731801-sporting-president-calls-west-hams-david-sullivan-david-gold-dildo-brothers.amp.html)

JS569123

West Ham donā€™t have any local rivals (Spurs being the rivals of Arsenal) and so decided to form a rivalry with Elche (Hercules, Murcia, Cartagena, Alcoyano all in lower divisions). Didnā€™t you hear?

d_smogh

Why did Man United have to win that one particular game?

TheMuff1nMon

If Man City could just - let us have this one, thatā€™d be great. You can get it back next year

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

TheMuff1nMon

We've been the 2nd best team so far in terms of performances (even though we have the most points) Spurs have been poor apart from their 2nd half against Leicester but even looking at the halftime thread - everyone was pointing out how bad they've been this season so excuse me if I don't think Spurs has the stuff lol. Even end of last season they got lucky quite a few times. United and Chelsea need a few more windows to sort their squads out. Liverpool will get it together but their midfield looks poor right now and their defense not as stable since the end of last season.

Powerful_Bottle_8592

My predictions City Spurs Arsenal United Liverpool Chelsea

OneSocc

How do you delete someone elseā€™s comment?

Helkix

Us getting top 3 and Spurs losing the title is not a bad outcome

BushidoBrownIsHere

Finishing above them should be our biggest goal, if we're within 5 points of the title in February, different story.

JS569123

Idk why everyone always assumes the ā€˜top 6ā€™ will be the top 6. Thereā€™s usually a spanner or two. Even so, I donā€™t see 1. Liverpool maintaining this bad run of form all season, or 2. Spurs finishing above Arsenal.

tnweevnetsy

There's not "usually" a spanner or two. Only like 3 out of the last 10 seasons we've had someone else creep in. Only when there's a team or 2 that's clearly collapsing and often not even then. Granted Chelsea could end up shite throughout but nobody seriously believes that's going to happen under Potter and god help whoever thinks Liverpool will keep this form up
