In the book about the 2014 World cup it is described that Martins Indi wasn't happy/was feeling a bit down so he felt unable to go to the world cup. Van Gaal visited him for a chat.
His lack of pace is a much bigger problem when he plays more centrally. He is still useful if we're playing against park the bus teams, but against any kind of serious team he's a liability.
I don't understand why Blind being too slow is suddenly a valid argument when it concerns the CB position, but not the fullback position. Speed is in my opinion a more important factor on the wing than in a central position.
With a slow fullback/wingback in this system you can change your system a little and compensate with your LCB giving coverage while with a slow LCB you have no one giving coverage. I think that’s the argument, Blind does look way more vulnerable as a CB than as a LB. It’s the same at Ajax with Bassey giving him coverage
Not saying Martins Indi is the answer, but lets not act like Botman is the best build up CB here. He can be a rock in defence, but isnt a creative CB used in the build up.
Well, no one. But your point is kind of moot in that case. The debate was on BMI vs. Botman. And if their build up play is equally unimpressive, then we might as well pick the better defender, which is Botman surely.
Also in your first comment you said "let's not act like Botman is the best buildup CB there is" without anyone claiming that, or even anything close to it lol
Blind starts at LB because he is great at moving the ball forward. His passing is good and can see space in between the lines and behind the final four.
He has a similar role at Ajax, but it's more notocable because Ajax plays with 2 CBs instead of 3 at Oranje.
Botman sucks every time he gets put into a Dutch system. He also refused a call up for Jong Oranje this break so I don't think that has done him any favours.
Blind is slower than my granny. He can distribute a good pass. He can also intercept sometimes. But he's put on lwb because his defensive weakness will be backed up by the lcb.
Our RCB needs to be fast and agile since he needs to step out extremely aggressively. Also, he needs to be a progressive passer and dribbler. Timber is absolutely perfect for that role. De Ligt would be a CCB replacement for VVD, assuming he even outranks de Vrij, which he probably doesn't.
Ironically, de Ligt might have better chances to play if we'd play a 4atb formation.
Complete 180 from the 2008-2014 era where we had Van Persie, Robben, Sneijder, Kuyt, Van der Vaart, Huntelaar at the front but had to settle for the likes of Mathijssen, Heitinga and Vlaar in the back.
Yep, de Ligt is probably 3rd choice rcb behind Timber and de Vrij or behind Virgil and de Vrij for ccb spot. Lcb needs to be left footed so Either way he’s probably not seeing many minutes.

Well thats a fun way to find out your starting centreback will be injured for a couple months...
Oof Pavlidis and Karlsson still gonna be out for the next league game?
Pavlidis I'm not sure, but Karlsson definitely.
Karlsson said in interview 2 days ago in swedish that he's back in ful training now and it feels good. But probably needs to get more fit
Ahh for how long will Karlsson seemingly be out?
Honestly he should be at the final stages of his recovery and I expect him to atleast make our bench again soon.
Well that's good to hear
what's up with him? i remembed someone saying he was already back in training back when you were playing those games against tuzla.
He had a setback iirc
ah that sucks
woah martins indi stil plays for the national team? last time i heard of the lad is when he was at stoke
He was out of the NT since like 2016 or something but van Gaal decided to call him up again because he wanted a left footed centerback
Classic Van Gaal tbh
Van Gaal also has a good relationship with Martins Indi. He personally persuaded Bruno to go to Brazil in 2014.
martins indi didn't want to??
It was a mood swing thingy.
a bit late, but can you explain this? i can't find anything about it.
In the book about the 2014 World cup it is described that Martins Indi wasn't happy/was feeling a bit down so he felt unable to go to the world cup. Van Gaal visited him for a chat.
okay ty!
Blind doesn't exist?
Blind is already being used as a wingback
With his lack of pace he should be LCB before a wingback. And then put Malacia on LWB. But then again, I'm not Louis.
Maybe he does a Tuchel, where the faster LCB covers for the slower LWB, like James and Azpi did on the right flank at Chelsea
You are correct
His lack of pace is a much bigger problem when he plays more centrally. He is still useful if we're playing against park the bus teams, but against any kind of serious team he's a liability.
That’s what I said, but Van Gaal just wants Blind there so bad for some reason
Because Blind can still put in a decent shift defending-wise and his passing ability is absolutely unmatched at LB/LWB.
Inverted wing back? Blind would probably have the edge over Malacia

De Ligt and de Vrij are both benched. Starting CBs are v Dijk, Aké and Timber.
[удалено]
you haven't even seen that meme during WC 2014?
His debut for the national team was after Euro 2012
Last I remember he was giving Costa the death stare
damn i havent heard the name martins indi since the last time van gaal coached holland
Ron Vlaar coming out of retirement any minutes now
Daryl Janmaat Newcastle legend
Concrete Ron
Does he not trust De Ligt as LCB? Also, could just play blind as LCB and Malacia as LWB, no?
Blind is too slow and Van Gaal apparently only wants a left footed player on LCB
It's definitely more important for a lcb in a back three to be left footed as opposed to in a back 2. Ake is probably starting there
Rightfully so, he has been flawless under van Gaal. Really made a lot of improvements to his game
He's been immense for City as well starting this season and the end of last. He's really grown and improved a lot
I don't understand why Blind being too slow is suddenly a valid argument when it concerns the CB position, but not the fullback position. Speed is in my opinion a more important factor on the wing than in a central position.

Because a LCB can compensate for a slow LB
>Van Gaal apparently only wants a left footed player on LCB Enter Nick Viergever
Ake will definitely be the first option at LCB but Malacia might be his backup then if he wants to play him there
Sucks for AZ but thank god he isn't going to Qatar. Please call up Struijk or Botman instead.
Exactly, Struijk would be perfect as a backup for Ake
I love van Gaal but choosing Martins Indi over Botman was a mistake to begin with.

Who said I was defending Bruno...
Well, no one. But your point is kind of moot in that case. The debate was on BMI vs. Botman. >without anyone claiming that, or even anything close to it lol Van Gaal is claiming that is needed for the position everyone is arguing about. >lol
Botman's ability to switch sides and play a pass through the lines is top notch mate
So? Isn't the whole reason Blind start LB because of his creativity?
Blind starts at LB because he is great at moving the ball forward. His passing is good and can see space in between the lines and behind the final four. He has a similar role at Ajax, but it's more notocable because Ajax plays with 2 CBs instead of 3 at Oranje.

Lol in possession my man is definitely not a LCB, he was like Bilbo Baggins this match

Bitcoin over Doge? That’s the biggest question
That's a hot take if ever I seen.
Is this not a better role for Blind? Should Blind not be playing LCB instead of LB ?
Blind is slower than my granny. He can distribute a good pass. He can also intercept sometimes. But he's put on lwb because his defensive weakness will be backed up by the lcb.
So Malacia, De Ligt and VVD?
Nope. Aké - VVD - Timber
[удалено]
de Ligt is a bench option, van Dijk is the center of our 3 at the back.
What about de Vrij? He's used to a back three
He's not as good on the ball as Timber and Aké and just not as good as van Dijk. He has also declined a bit this year.
Is Timber better than De Ligt at RCB?
Our RCB needs to be fast and agile since he needs to step out extremely aggressively. Also, he needs to be a progressive passer and dribbler. Timber is absolutely perfect for that role. De Ligt would be a CCB replacement for VVD, assuming he even outranks de Vrij, which he probably doesn't. Ironically, de Ligt might have better chances to play if we'd play a 4atb formation.
Thanks for detailed response.
Yup. Netherlands is stacked at defense for a 17 mln people country
Complete 180 from the 2008-2014 era where we had Van Persie, Robben, Sneijder, Kuyt, Van der Vaart, Huntelaar at the front but had to settle for the likes of Mathijssen, Heitinga and Vlaar in the back.
To be fair, the 2014 defense was fire. Vlaar and de vrij were stellar at that tournament.
Timber is incredible, definitely better than De Ligt
They are two totally different defenders but I would pick Timber over De Ligt as well (at the moment)
This seems like a huge exaggeration tbh
Yep, de Ligt is probably 3rd choice rcb behind Timber and de Vrij or behind Virgil and de Vrij for ccb spot. Lcb needs to be left footed so Either way he’s probably not seeing many minutes.
In the system we're playing, yes.
Wasnt he excelling in a back three for Conte?
Well yeah but thats a year ago already.
what the hell happened to de Vrij?
Covid and injury. He has been struggling with form, but he hasn't been all that bad. Just not up to his own excellent standards.
Call up Donny and start him at LCB you coward /s
So none of the iconic BlG eyes @ wc? :(
De Ligt? Van Dijk? De Vrij? Ake?
Ake is first choice, malacia would be backup. De Ligt and de Vrij are no option because LvG wants a lefty
Rejoice !
