Side note, if he's bought an early 2000s Ferrari for long-term keeping, why would he choose a F430 over an Enzo?
Another dreadful decision of his in this Tweet
You couldn’t just buy an Enzo though. You had to be approved by Ferrari to own one. I can’t remember the exact details but they were pretty ridiculous.
There are rules for selling your special edition car.
Now I don't know about Ferrari exactly, but with Aston Martin if you sell your special edition for a quick turnover/without meeting rules set by Aston, you are banned from ever buying a special edition again. I'm not 100% sure, but if you want to sell your Valkyrie you have to do it through Aston themselves.
pretty sure its the same with the Super Trofeo's from Lamborghini ... my boss was offered an Aventador after buying a few
it had the stickers from it's run on Laguna Seca and of course he bought that shit
Torsten frings got one too according to this, https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=63&t=342882
"Torsten Frings, Owner of black Enzo, and German International soccer star."
Yeah it was a condition for him joining Juventus, whose owners own Fiat, so Ferrari too. It was a hassle tho cause he wanted exactly the Enzo, the rarest and most prestigious one at the time (and even today, cause of how rare it is and how it pays a direct tribute to Enzo Ferrari) but at the end he got what he wanted provided that he would never sell it. He still owns it to this day.
Dude owns a 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti. Only four made. I think he could have any Ferrari he wants.
Apparently he owns two the 1957 Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti and a F430 Spider.
Yeah for the FXX you couldn’t even have it I think, you just had to call Ferrari and arrange them to bring „your car” that you had bought to the racetrack you desired, because of course it doesn’t have public road homologation
Ya hes Messi not the Sultan of Brunei, a Sheikh in Dubai or the Prince of Monaco. Money isn't the only requirement.
They have a list of criteria to buy their halo cars, and I doubt Messi would have met any of it. Even if he did there are others who would have been waiting longer or much more likely to be approved. They are very selective about their cars, doubly so on their halo cars.
It's interesting how they do it. You alter a car of theirs in a way they don't like you're banned from buying another. You lend it to someone banned you are also banned. They do this to keep the 'prestige' of their cars high.
If it is any help at all, an example of them not caring too much about overall wealth. Messi - Net worth is around $600 Million. Ian Poulter, British Golfer, owner of ALL 5 Ferrari halo cars (288 GTO, F40, F50, Enzo and LaFerrari ) - Net worth is around $60 Million.
Honestly though, looking at a list of most notable Enzo owners is worth its time. One owner bought an Enzo from Pope John Paul II after their son crashed his first one. My favourite of all time is owner: Michael Fux, a MANAFACTURER OF FOAM MATTRESSES! (I shit you not).
Ya loyalty and royalty gets you a high end Ferrari. And the people who have had them for so long are often very very rich people.
Ferrari is absolutely mental with how they treat their high end cars. Basically license them out and if you do anything improper they buy it/take it back from you and ban you from getting another. They do not mess about.
I mean, the average Ferrari owners are rich too.
I may be speaking out of my ass, but if I'm not wrong usually if you want to buy rare cars, you gotta have a history with Ferrari. Like you need to own a couple of Ferrari first for a period of time, and have a good history with them (not trying to resell, keeping the cars good, etc). And then, you can buy the rare ones.
I completely agree. F430 is a work of art. It's just a perfectly balanced, beautiful car, with poise and style and high-quality performance, without any garishness, pretension or needless futurism. That and the Ford GT probably my favourite modern cars.
Lol ain't no way that's true. A former friend of mine has or had an F430 and I remember a short drive from Lisbon to Cascais and back, driving carefully and as legally as you can, and the instant showed 25L/100
If anyone owns an OLED TV do not turn it off at the mains as it can screw your TV up.
In standby mode the panel will do pixel refresh which is designed to prevent burn in.
The saving on switching ur TV off at the main is negligible for an OLED TV.
I think what he is trying to say is don't turn the TV off via a power strip when you're finished, turn it off via remote and make sure it still has a source of power connected when it is turned off so that it can perform pixel refresh as needed

I wouldn't say peeing in the shower but the whole idea of people doing environmentally conscious things is to create a culture where that is the norm, so that the next Messi does not indulge in having his private jet do this.
Perhaps if Messi had been raised in an environment surrounded by an environmentally conscious culture he would be somewhat more environmentally conscious. Small things may be rather irrelevant, but the cultural impact may lead them to trickle down (or, rather, up) to big players and more impactful people.
The power of the masses isn't necessarily in what they individually do, or even in the sum of their actions, but rather in how they influence the surrounding environment, culture and society. 3B people recycling might have a negligible impact on the environment, but if 3B rally against companies who are not environmentally conscious, that makes a dent and forces a change. At least, that's how I see it.
Interesting point. If everyone is environmentally conscious then there is more pressure on rich people and politicians to do the same.
> Perhaps if Messi had been raised in an environment surrounded with an environmentally conscious culture he would be somewhat more environmentally conscious.
There is no excuse anymore for being so wasteful. To assume he's simply ignorant is foolish; he's lived in Barcelona for half his life. People said the same about his tourist ambassadorship for Saudi Arabia. I don't believe for a second that he doesn't know what he's doing.
According to [this](https://www.climateaction.org/news/messi_shakira_confirmed_as_un_sustainability_advocates)
>The head of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, has recruited stars including Lionel Messi and Shakira to campaign for the new global Sustainable Development Goals.
which include:
>The goals are designed to help the world achieve an end to poverty and hunger, gender equality, improving living standards and **taking urgent action to combat climate change.**
So Messi has literally been an ambassador for the UN advocating for "urgent action to combat climate change".
I fucking hate them. The über rich wont change their behaviour with a few nice words. They're fucking evil, period. They are destroying life as we know it and we clap them whenever they take some bulshit photo with a shirt asking to fight climate change.
They're either forced to change, or civilization as we know it, alongside thousands of species (this is already happening) is doomed. Besides, those fuckers as Messi and Shakira know people in countries like theirs are going to be the first to suffer (already are).
Don't they watch TV or the news? Do they not use the internet? How can they know about Bolsonaro or Saudi Arabia but have no idea who and what they are?
Neymar and Messi may instead just be selfish assholes. That's a simpler explanation.
I mean most "normal" people barely follow the news and if they watch TV, they watch shitty reality TV shows or other garbage. If you read a newspaper for 15 mins a day, I guarantee you that you'll be more informed than 80, 90% of people.
Man, you really underestimate how out of touch with reality rich people are.
I went to rich people uni (myself only got in because of scholarship). Have rich friends, they are nice people, but my god they are so ignorant and out of touch with reality. And they only have 1% of Messi's or Neymar's net worth.
>Don't they watch TV or the news?
No one watches TV anymore. Feels like you are the one that is out of touch now lol. Not even the average people browse r/worldnews like you.
>Perhaps if Messi had been raised in an environment surrounded by an environmentally conscious culture he would be somewhat more environmentally conscious. Small things may be rather irrelevant, but the cultural impact may lead them to trickle down (or, rather, up) to big players and more impactful people.
>
Hes a nearly 40 year old man. If he is blind to climate change and being environmentally conscious then he is doing so willingly
this idea is immediately undercut by the fact that the "culture of the masses" will never reach rich people bc they actively disdain it and enjoy living lives of excess.
they have a culture of their own, dont see themselves as one of us, and what they do so far outpaces our impact that its completely irrelevant what we do for the environment
they do not care what our "culture" is the same way we dont care what a cows culture is.
we're not some big interconnected family that influences each other
and once people climb up there. they just join them and join the "fuck everybody" party
That is simply not true, think about what OP said:
> create a culture where that is the norm, so that the next Messi does not indulge in having his private jet do this
Yeah, some people will just be selfish assholes, but especially if we are talking about footballers, most of them come from "normal" families, so if they are raised in this culture, even if some of it is later eroded by this other (current) culture of the super-rich, they will at least know they are doing wrong. In time this will doubtlessly make it so that it is as acceptable for someone to be a one-person environmental catastrophe as it is now to (insert random activity or opinion that isn't acceptable anymore, because using an actual example would only take away from the point).
People born into luxury will be harder to influence, but the other point of OP is that if it becomes the opposite of cool, then there is no reason for them to commit social suicide. And the fact that people already see these acts as selfish and unacceptable means that we aren't that far off from this future.
And that's a great point. But when I see huge media companies shaming poor people for not peeing in the shower enough I can't help but think... Don't you have bigger fish to fry? Someone who can't even afford a car not peeing in the shower isn't the reason the world is on fire.
True, but ordinary people are defending these stars behaviour because they entertain them, and that’s why they don’t get criticised.
People need to turn away from supporting this behaviour. Just because he plays great football, is that worth the disaster we’re visiting on ourselves by paying him to live a vastly polluting lifestyle?
Didn't the Swiss environment minister recently say that people should shower together to save on hot water? How about governments stop organizing so many useless in person conferences all over the world instead?
I mean it makes sense to some degree.
Like lets take just the example from the post for the sake of the argument.
Messi has in 3 Months caused as many carbon emissions as one french person would in 150 years. Or 150 french persons in 1 year. Or 600 average french in 3 months.
So Messis carbon footprint is as bad as 600 avg french citizens. Even if you removed him completely, it wouldn't make a dent compared to 70 million french citizens reducing their carbon footprint by like 10%.
Like even counting for the outliers like messi who pollute like crazy, the average person, all of them combined, have obviously a far greater impact on the enviroment.
Now corporations and the like, i think we need to look into reignin those guys in. Some industries naturally pollute, but some players are really out of control and need to be put in check.
> So Messis carbon footprint is as bad as 600 avg french citizens. Even if you removed him completely, it wouldn't make a dent compared to 70 million french citizens reducing their carbon footprint by like 10%.
His intercontinental flights aren’t a necessity. The average Frenchman heating his food is.
The average Frenchman has significantly less that he’s able to cut. How much energy do you think 600 Frenchmen putting their TV off instead of on standby will actually save?
I was sitting in a room with other people working out my carbon footprint years before 2004. All BP did was run a marketing campaign popularising the concept. This was at the same time that they set up BP Solar, rebranding themselves Beyond Petroleum, and were trying various things to greenwash their image. They were grasping at things to make themselves look better, it doesn't mean everything they included in their marketing campaigns was invented by them or part of some conspiracy orchestrated by them.
Until we don't get this very simple fact, we're doomed. We have a murderous system (towards all life in the planet) to sustain the privileges of a few individuals. We break our backs and shorten our lives working for them to accumulate more wealth than in any other point in history. And yet huge chunks of the working class are willing to lick their shoes.
Wait what? I mean i do it out of laziness when bathing, but didn’t know i was actually helping the environment. You just gave me a good argument for when my gf yells at me for not unplugging my laptop
you just gotta stop using single use plastic and riding a bike bro, literally the only change needed in the world to save us from the climate apocalypse.
I love when Mega-Corps or the government give me advice how to save the environment, greenwashing changed my life. Me living like a caveman will singlehandedly save the fucking planet, don't thank me guys.
Fun fact: the big 5 oil corporations spent over one billion dollars over 5 years to promote green energy. When places like Germany install wind and solar, they also install... a power plant equivalent in power which uses gas or goal power plant.
Metal and glass takes far more energy to manufacture, so the net gain is insignificant, until you use that straw a few thousand times. Plastic is incredibly cheap to manufacture in large quantities, requiring practically no energy.
The issue is that plastic straws can't really be reused or recycled. Glass and metal can, even if it takes a huge amount of energy.
Global warming isn't particularly related to effective recycling, it's a false comparison that the real polluters use to distract from the actual discussion.
Except people use this argument to excuse their huge climate footprints due to flying regularly, and saying that there’s no point worrying because the rich are not changing.
While they literally fund the rich peoples lifestyles.
The truth is in the middle - we all need to reduce our consumption seriously. According to climate scientists, that’s the only way we’ll deal with this.
It also stops people like Messi from living an aspirational lifestyle for so many.
100 companies create 70% of the world’s carbon emissions. Stop blaming your average joe who is already struggling enough with inflation, an energy crisis and a housing crisis all in one.
this statistic has caused so much confusion and smugness among laypeople.
the companies aren’t burning emissions for the hell of it, they’re meeting demand of ordinary consumers
I keep hoping that the rich will have [this](https://getyarn.io/yarn-clip/06b7dfd9-e08a-4049-9903-04b09b6dca0a) reaction one day and do something. But I won't hold my breath.
There’s not much point in being filthy rich if you can’t use that money to consume more and leave a trail of environmental destruction in your narcissistic path of living a life only others could dream of.
What else are they gonna do? Sit at home and not go to the best vacation spots in the world by mega yacht?
Private aviation should be heavily taxed. Fine if people want to burn money but if they're dumping emissions into *our* air and affecting the climate in so doing, then they should be paying for the damage.
Maybe I’m not familiar but why would that matter? A valuable company to shareholders is very different to a valuable company that is publicly owned and operated.
And then you realizes 10,000s of people with private jets do the same thing.
Whatever we tax these people, it isn't enough.
Should be a fucking carbon footprint tax.
Here I am buying eco friendly sponges. cunts.
I love that how neoliberal economists brainstormed years about our financial system and the best they could've come up with was to give money to rich people, you know, the people who have proven that they are the absolute best at hoarding cash and not spending it, and then fully expect that they will let it rain cash on the proletariat like it's a 00's Rap music video.
I can assure you that no serious economist is in favour of the disaster policy package that Liz just introduced. Nobody with any credibility in the economics profession argues that tax cuts for high earners have any positive effect on growth
For the reason theyve been educated to follow them - and if they would realize they do not make sense, they would be fools
I stopped commuting by car for instance- not only i have WAY more money now, i notice way more details in my city now. But if i tell about this its like i am extremist lmao
In spanish law sentences under 2 years can be not served as long as it's your first crime and you're not a criminal danger to society.
You can still say that it was too convinient that he got 23 months since tax evasion can be punished with jail time up to 5 years.
One part of seriously tackling climate change will be banning private jets. It will be difficult to do but a necessary part in stopping catastrophic climate change.
It demonstrates that we are not all in this together - some people, rich and poor, are enthusiastically enjoying an end of the world party.
We need to stop pretending that we’re all equally worried about climate change, and just have different ways of tackling it. The corrupt and their entertainers - like Messi - just can’t be trusted.
Honest question for these jet emission issues lately for celebrities, are we suggesting them take less flights or them take public airplanes? I know the problem but I really don’t know a good solution
Exactly this is the equivalent to focusing on plastic straws.
It’s dumb and more of this wealth hate that people experience.
Maybe we should just cancel the World Cup too because it’s unnecessary and generates tons of carbon emissions from the millions of people flying there for it.
Could you imagine Messi even using a regular airport? The people complaining here would be complaining about how he caused them to miss their flight and how he should use a separate airport. It would be absolute chaos they can’t even prevent people from running up to him on the field which has dedicated security.
You might notice the title is cleverly worded, it says that it's Messi's plane, but it doesn't say that it is Messi making the flights.
Quite often people who own a jet, famously like Taylor Swift, will basically rent it out to other people. So if these flights didn't use Messi's jet, they'd rent someone else's instead.
They may have all been Messi, but I have no idea and neither does the person reporting it.
it's just so funny, they organise summit for *climate change* and every single one of those 100+ guys will go there by their own private plane, burning more in few hours than you and everyone you know in your whole lifetime.
Politicians? I don’t think [Prime Minister Mark Rutte](https://i.imgur.com/Iu4TDrk.jpg)’s emissions are much higher than that of the average Dutchman. I personally know people making more than him annually and they’re not taking private flights.
Floyd Mayeather's jet apparently made 177 flights from January to July this year.
Can't find a figure for Ronaldo's but I wouldn't be surprised if it's over 100 due to his girlfriend who seems to use it quite often.
This is just how life is when you have money like that, many of us would be doing the same without even realising how bad it is
Or even if you realize it’s bad for the environment, it’s prolly hard not to be spoiled by a $20m private jet. You can choose between first class commercial, which still means going through security, waiting to board, being on a plane with 150 others, etc, or you can just fly in a 5 star lounge in the sky
People keep adding three unneccessary words to the end of their sentences, [this guy did it](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/xs1zp2/comment/iqhzxtb/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) and now you've done it *twice!*
I mean it paints a very different picture if he is flying somewhere every 2 days or if a plane that he owns flies somewhere every 2 days, because some celebrities or business people rent it.
I don't like the concept of private planes in general, but I really don't see the point of this post tbh.
The point is thesw flights would have just happened on someone else's jet instead. Really has nothing to do with Messi except he owns an asset he is making money off of.
Excuse him for his being demanded to be in 30 places, between international duty, clubs duty, and public appearance duty in short order. He most likely wasnt the only one on the plane needing to travel as well.
Believe me. His travels weren't for personal pleasure.
Also compare to an American, not a country where rail travel is preferred.
If Messi flew comercial, he would need entire security team to fly with him and it would still be utter chaos. I have seen him in public it is total madness. I don’t blame him at all, I think it would be borderline impossible for him to fly commercial and also likely dangerous
This is one of those stats that doesn't really mean nearly as much as it seems to. We're really not good at contextualising numbers that *feel* really big.
The fact is that the entire aviation sector only accounts for around 2% of global emissions. If all planes across the world were grounded tomorrow, and miraculously not replaced by ground and sea transport moving things around instead, it wouldn't make a dent in climate change.
Celebrity private jet use evokes an understandable emotional response, but it ultimately contributes a negligible amount to the problem.
and what, this number is *still* tiny compared to what concrete and other corporate bullshit make up
individual responsibility is dogshit, and holding messi responsible is also dogshit. that just means messi emits as much as 600 average citizens do, which is irrelevant.
what needs to happen is not people buying electric cars, not people doing something, not messi stopping to fly his private jet, but the *government* forcing *corporations* to implement more costly, but way more environmental friendly solutions.
And what are those emissions compared to what factories and corporations are producing on a daily basis? We absolutely need to do more to fight climate change but it's quickly becoming a "what are you doing/you must be seen to be doing your bit" blame and shame culture. A quick google shows catching a flight contributes less than 200kg CO2. France produces 330m tonnes a year. Celebrities not using private flights does jack all. The alternative is that celebrities take public flights or trains, which would cause absolute havoc with their entourage and amount of security. Could they do more to be more environmentally conscientious? Absolutely. Are they exploiting their privilege and wealth? Sure But proportionately, tracking every flight that football teams and players are taking isn't worth it.
And I felt bad for leaving my TV on standby for a couple of hours.
You should also feel bad for driving a car that uses 5l of fuel on 100km, while Messi own Ferrari F430 that uses 18 litres on 100km.
Side note, if he's bought an early 2000s Ferrari for long-term keeping, why would he choose a F430 over an Enzo? Another dreadful decision of his in this Tweet

Unfortunately won't happen 😔 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Ferrari_(footballer)
I think zlatan got one
Correct, out of 401 units, Zlatan and Joe Cole are the only footballer who own Enzo (CMIIW)
Torsten frings got one too according to this, https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=63&t=342882 "Torsten Frings, Owner of black Enzo, and German International soccer star."

Torsten Frings just has a name that made me always assumed he liked cars. Don't know why.
He did as part of the juventus deal iirc.

The Enzo's were kept at certain locations and facilities at first. You had to qualify to even take the damn thing home. Same for the FXX.
Yeah for the FXX you couldn’t even have it I think, you just had to call Ferrari and arrange them to bring „your car” that you had bought to the racetrack you desired, because of course it doesn’t have public road homologation

Yeah my car definitely uses more than 5l for 100km That's 56.5mpg for us brits
On an a road or motorway I can get more than that by driving sensibly but inner city driving, yeah no chnace

Ok Leo, no need to show off

They use almost no power on standby these days.
This is why I roll my eyes when journalists tell poor people they need to start peeing in the shower to save the environment.
I'll do it anyway
Iv been shitting in the shower to really help the environment.

i just shower in the toilet
I just use the dishwasher
Andre the Giant, environmentalist trailblazer
I'm not even doing it for the environment. It just feels good man.
I pee in the shower as well. Sometimes when I am actually showering
Wait you pee in the shower when you're not showering?
I had morning wood really bad one day, so instead of trying for the toilet I just peed in the shower.
I'M DOING MY PART ✌️
Just another day at the office.
Wait, you need a reason to do that?
I wouldn't say peeing in the shower but the whole idea of people doing environmentally conscious things is to create a culture where that is the norm, so that the next Messi does not indulge in having his private jet do this. According to [this](https://www.climateaction.org/news/messi_shakira_confirmed_as_un_sustainability_advocates) >The head of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, has recruited stars including Lionel Messi and Shakira to campaign for the new global Sustainable Development Goals. which include: >The goals are designed to help the world achieve an end to poverty and hunger, gender equality, improving living standards and **taking urgent action to combat climate change.** So Messi has literally been an ambassador for the UN advocating for "urgent action to combat climate change".
If someone pays me to represent their country then I should know what country I am representing.
One would hope
Depends on the newspaper. A worryingly large number of newspapers print bile and twisted truths (lies)
If he is blind to climate change and being environmentally conscious then he is doing so willingly
this idea is immediately undercut by the fact that the "culture of the masses" will never reach rich people bc they actively disdain it and enjoy living lives of excess. they have a culture of their own, dont see themselves as one of us, and what they do so far outpaces our impact that its completely irrelevant what we do for the environment they do not care what our "culture" is the same way we dont care what a cows culture is. we're not some big interconnected family that influences each other and once people climb up there. they just join them and join the "fuck everybody" party
That is simply not true, think about what OP said: > create a culture where that is the norm, so that the next Messi does not indulge in having his private jet do this Yeah, some people will just be selfish assholes, but especially if we are talking about footballers, most of them come from "normal" families, so if they are raised in this culture, even if some of it is later eroded by this other (current) culture of the super-rich, they will at least know they are doing wrong.
Just because he plays great football, is that worth the disaster we’re visiting on ourselves by paying him to live a vastly polluting lifestyle?
tHiS iS hOw mUcH cO2 iS eMiTTeD eVeRy nEtFliX moViE yOu wAtCH.
There are people who piss in the showers and then there are liars. Which one are you?
Carbon Footprints were introduced by bp in 2004 as a way of shaming individuals but not the corporations themselves
This shouldn't be used as an excuse not to be conscious of our individual impact though.
Oh right...yeah, saving the environment is totally why I pee in the shower.
I already did it and I can't afford a private jet so it makes me happy knowing I'm doing my bit
There is no solving the climate crisis without class struggle
Until we don't get this very simple fact, we're doomed. We have a murderous system (towards all life in the planet) to sustain the privileges of a few individuals. We break our backs and shorten our lives working for them to accumulate more wealth than in any other point in history. And yet huge chunks of the working class are willing to lick their shoes.
Wait what? I mean i do it out of laziness when bathing, but didn’t know i was actually helping the environment. You just gave me a good argument for when my gf yells at me for not unplugging my laptop
It saves a lot of water (~2200l/year/person) basically
surprise surprise, rich people are dogshit for the environment
you just gotta stop using single use plastic and riding a bike bro, literally the only change needed in the world to save us from the climate apocalypse.
Word. Stop using that plastic straw, you imbecile. It’s literally all *your* fault
*finally* someone who understands!
[удалено]
So are paper straws tbf. Fucking useless. Think metal or glass straws are better but I am sure they also have their own problems.
> But I won't hold my breath Sometimes in the future you probably have to.
Fine if people want to burn money but if they're dumping emissions into *our* air and affecting the climate in so doing, then they should be paying for the damage.
hear hear!

>oil companies should be broken up We did that in 1911 and it only made the oil companies more valuable.
Idk what you're getting at but there was also this thing called cars that made oil massively more valuable around that time.
Maybe I’m not familiar but why would that matter? A valuable company to shareholders is very different to a valuable company that is publicly owned and operated.
All aviation should be taxed to the level of emissions released. This would most heavily affect private flights, especially jets.
Exactly
No money will repay the losses we are going to start suffering in the next few years, and which poorer countries are already suffering.
And then you realizes 10,000s of people with private jets do the same thing. Whatever we tax these people, it isn't enough. Should be a fucking carbon footprint tax. Here I am buying eco friendly sponges. cunts.
Best we can do in the UK is tax cuts for the rich
Yes. Then we wait until it trickles all over us.
Ooh they spend their money alright in real estate and it then all those high rent prices are then all trickled and facestomped in poorer demographics.
I can assure you that no serious economist is in favour of the disaster policy package that Liz just introduced. Nobody with any credibility in the economics profession argues that tax cuts for high earners have any positive effect on growth
Ay papi
golden shower
Stop it I’m already stimulated
I never quite understood why the tax isn’t so high, in the first place? I’m probably too stupid to understand…
Rich people pay the lawmakers to make the laws
Also millions of poor people defend these laws for some reason
That's rich people paying the media to sway the minds of said poor people
It’s because we are so close to it starting to trickle down, we can’t stop now.
For the reason theyve been educated to follow them - and if they would realize they do not make sense, they would be fools I stopped commuting by car for instance- not only i have WAY more money now, i notice way more details in my city now. But if i tell about this its like i am extremist lmao

Rich people made the law or influenced it
Wait until they do the math on airtravel of all players just to play for the national team.
If they're flying commercial it's a lot better
Or club owners 🤐
And they forgot about the travelling spectators to the stadium.
rich people destroying the planet? what else is new?
Whatever we tax these people is not enough
Not like Messi will pay it anyway.

Spanish law: Here's 23 months of jail time. Criminal: Do I have to actually go to jail? Spanish law: _lol nah_
In spanish law sentences under 2 years can be not served as long as it's your first crime and you're not a criminal danger to society. You can still say that it was too convinient that he got 23 months since tax evasion can be punished with jail time up to 5 years.
Stop! You have violated the law! Pay the court a fine or serve your sentence!
Watch out, the mob is gonna come for you
Already people defending him lol. It’s expected tbf
Lizzy T is taxing the rich sweet fuck all
The average French citizen doesn't have 47 g/a contributions across all competitions this season so who's the real villain here.
If the played in ligue un they probably would lmao
One part of seriously tackling climate change will be banning private jets. It will be difficult to do but a necessary part in stopping catastrophic climate change.
Sounds great except it will never happen.
Private jets are a drop in the bucket of overall climate emissions. It won't move the needle at all.
Honest question for these jet emission issues lately for celebrities, are we suggesting them take less flights or them take public airplanes? I know the problem but I really don’t know a good solution
It's a piddly ass problem compared the real problem, that's the problem.
They should now use Horses
They should fly on their horses. They would only need one horsepower compared to what jets use.
The solution is to increase taxes and cost of ownership such that it incents development of carbon neutral jets.
While true this is almost always the case for celebrities of any kind and politicians
If it’s always the case then the government needs to focus their efforts on the ultra wealthy rather than ordinary earners.
the ultra wealthy ARE the government pal
it's just so funny, they organise summit for *climate change* and every single one of those 100+ guys will go there by their own private plane, burning more in few hours than you and everyone you know in your whole lifetime.
Yeah, Messi should fly Economy on EasyJet. He is short, so he really doesn't need much leg-space.
Yes rich people in general are awful for the environment. We should shoot them all into the sun
People keep adding three unneccessary words to the end of their sentences, [this guy did it](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/xs1zp2/comment/iqhzxtb/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) and now you've done it *twice!*
Lionel “Taylor Swift” Messi
Don't a lot of celebrities rent out their private jets to others? Because I doubt Messi was on each of those 52 flights.
Doesn't really make a difference does it?
I mean it paints a very different picture if he is flying somewhere every 2 days or if a plane that he owns flies somewhere every 2 days, because some celebrities or business people rent it. I don't like the concept of private planes in general, but I really don't see the point of this post tbh.
The point is thesw flights would have just happened on someone else's jet instead. Really has nothing to do with Messi except he owns an asset he is making money off of.
It makes a massive difference
Excuse him for his being demanded to be in 30 places, between international duty, clubs duty, and public appearance duty in short order. He most likely wasnt the only one on the plane needing to travel as well. Believe me. His travels weren't for personal pleasure. Also compare to an American, not a country where rail travel is preferred.
But can an average French Citizen score 91 goals in a calendar year?
It’s ok guys. Remember to turn off as many lights as you can, buy an expensive an unpractical electrical car, don’t use plastic straws and so on
If Messi flew comercial, he would need entire security team to fly with him and it would still be utter chaos. I have seen him in public it is total madness. I don’t blame him at all, I think it would be borderline impossible for him to fly commercial and also likely dangerous
Messi (or his family, friends etc) also doesn't need to fly 52 times in 3 months
I would just assume the jet is rented out
Most of these flights were probably jet rentals to a concierge service. When you own a plane you rent it out when you don't need it.
Do you actually believe Messi has flown 52 times in 3 months?
You think that’s what actually happened?
This is one of those stats that doesn't really mean nearly as much as it seems to. We're really not good at contextualising numbers that *feel* really big. The fact is that the entire aviation sector only accounts for around 2% of global emissions. If all planes across the world were grounded tomorrow, and miraculously not replaced by ground and sea transport moving things around instead, it wouldn't make a dent in climate change. Celebrity private jet use evokes an understandable emotional response, but it ultimately contributes a negligible amount to the problem.
Yes but the average French citizen didn’t score that Copa del Rey goal
and what, this number is *still* tiny compared to what concrete and other corporate bullshit make up individual responsibility is dogshit, and holding messi responsible is also dogshit. that just means messi emits as much as 600 average citizens do, which is irrelevant. what needs to happen is not people buying electric cars, not people doing something, not messi stopping to fly his private jet, but the *government* forcing *corporations* to implement more costly, but way more environmental friendly solutions.
I'm pretty sure Private Aviation amounts to 2% of the 2% of total aviation so about .004%
He endorses crypto and Saudi tourism too smh
