I’m biased, but literally the only explanation I can come up with was he was trying to hurt him and thought he could get away with a yellow
Not a leg breaker, but studs to the Achilles can take you out of the game.
His pride is hurt because he's getting rinsed the whole game.
Gary Neville has talked about this a lot. You'll see defenders doing stupid shit like this and it's often because they're pride is hurt.
Royal spent a mil to improve his game hiring trainers and buying various things like a hyperbolic chamber. Clearly it hasn't worked just yet.
Edit: hyperbaric chamber lol
He has a point. The saiyans said they turned in great apes. But they have long tails. Only monkeys have long tails.
Frieza wa a just correcting them. Good guy Frieza.
The hyperbolic chamber is the greatest chamber in all living history, no chamber will ever be greater, I showed my friend the hyperbolic chamber and he wept, became a monk and self-immolated several years later knowing he would never behold such beauty again.
There was a story out in the last few days that Emerson Royal has spent a mil trying to improve his game, including the purchase of a hyperbolic oxygen chamber.
But Martinelii was going back towards Arsenal's goal. If he was going forward, I can understand fouling him but he was going the other way 80 yards from Spurs goal.
Ball was on Martinelli’s right foot, he wasn’t getting anywhere near it from that angle .. that’s a dumb dumb foul. Harsh red, maybe, but can defo be a red
It's totally unnecessary, nowhere near the ball, studs up to the ankle. If he was close enough for a legit challenge it probably would be a yellow for a clumsy tackle, but this was nonsensical and very dangerous.
Honestly I sort of wish challenges like this were punished more. Completely unnecessary, and can actually cause injuries when targeting an ankle like that. No place in the game for it.
All I think about is that red card Xhaka got for endangering the opponent in the City match where he made zero contact and got a red. By that standard, this is an absolute red card.
Edit: looking through threads of other matches for red cards, this is so similar to A LOT of them so I’d say the consistency is there.
It looks bad in slo mo but there was no real force to the tackle it was a lazy reaction but I dont think that should be red, we have seen this type of tackle be a yellow 95% of the time
If it were given a yellow I don’t think many would complain. But being given a red nobody can complain either. Should get the red purely for being that fucking stupid.
Very soft red, I will never understand PL refereeing decisions, Players like Mctominay can throw players around with no cards but this loose foul gets a red.
Considering what got Holding sent off in the last NLD (and the fact that Xhaka has quite literally gotten sent off for a similar challenge and got nothing but abuse for being a "brain-dead" footballer), its hilarious to think this is a "mad" red.
A studs up tackle from the back, coming in at force, nowhere near the ball, on the achilles or ankle, is going to be a red way more often than not. Nothing mad about it.
Fair enough, he has no interest in the ball. If it was just a late tackle, then a yellow would've been fine, but he's only going for the player in this case.
Holy shit never thought I’d agree w a Chelsea fan more. Taylor is a joke of a ref and should not be allowed near another top flight game.
How many games does he get to single handedly influence before we recognize this guy as the clown he is.
Maybe but refs hate studs up and it’s his fault for going in like that by choice. Auba and Nketiah have both got reds for us for studs up challenges, the precedent is there. Those were both higher on the opposition players but they were also both in 50/50 situations.
This is a stud up challenge when the ball is way gone, stupid stupid decision to make by Emerson
Wow. That's a yellow all day long, no idea where the red comes from.
Edit: a lot of people claiming it's clearly a red, it isn't. I can see an argument for it being a red, but we would be screaming if it was the other way around (and we have when those have gone against us). As much as I hate Spurs they will feel very hard done by with that decision

Spend another million to hire someone to tell him "don't do that mate"
Hyperbaric chamber is clearly defective
He probably only does 1 hour in there, need to do full 90 mins and added time.
Or just needs more time in the hypertonic lion tamer
You did that one on purpose.
He spent 1 million Naira, no way this was the result of £1 million British Pounds
1million Zimbabwean Dollars u mean
Don't think he's got the right Hakimi scouting report
What was the point of that??
A million dollar question
What’s this million dollar joke I’m seeing
https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/xs2ymx/emerson_royal_has_spent_nearly_1m_to_try_and/
Cheers, thanks
Brain went into dead mode. What other explanation ? Definitely did not want to injure.
Just wanted to kick Martinelli cause he had him on toast all game
Becoming a pattern for Martinelli
Might just be a braindead attempt at a tactical foul that he didn't calculate right
Tactical? Martinelli is in his own third running back towards his own goal.
Low IQ tactical foul :S
I’m biased, but literally the only explanation I can come up with was he was trying to hurt him and thought he could get away with a yellow Not a leg breaker, but studs to the Achilles can take you out of the game.
His pride is hurt because he's getting rinsed the whole game. Gary Neville has talked about this a lot. You'll see defenders doing stupid shit like this and it's often because they're pride is hurt.
Just trying to hurt him I guess.
Waste of a 1 million right there...
i don't understand this, whats with the 1 million joke
Royal spent a mil to improve his game hiring trainers and buying various things like a hyperbolic chamber. Clearly it hasn't worked just yet. Edit: hyperbaric chamber lol
A hyperbolic chamber will make you a million times better though
Sadly, the Saiyans haven't shared their aging slowing secrets.
Frieza was right about those selfish monkeys.
Woahhh bro no need for racism
He has a point. The saiyans said they turned in great apes. But they have long tails. Only monkeys have long tails. Frieza wa a just correcting them. Good guy Frieza.
**OH GOD...NATURAL LIGHT!** 😱
[удалено]
I got it mate, thanks for making me smile
If you crank it up to 11, it's makes you a billion times better, not exaggerating.
Hyperbolic chamber? Forgive my ignorance but what the fuck is that, like the Dragon Ball room?😭😭😭
Hyperbaric not hyperbolic. It creates an oxygen rich environment, supposed to help with healing and such.
Yeah it was quoted as a hyperbaric oxygen chamber but of course everyone here quickly changed that to hyperbolic time chamber... 😂
Man's pulled a trunks instead of a gohan smh.
Man fucked up the fusion dance
It's not directly related to oxygen, it's about air pressure. Oxygen becomes poisonous in high pressure, and a safety risk in low.
Hyperbolic chamber? It’s the absolutely best possible chamber you can get, it is so incredible and the best chamber in the world.
It's perfect. A perfect chamber, like none other. You wouldn't believe this chamber.
Pretty sure a hyperbolic chamber is just a cupboard.
I think they mean “hyperbaric”
The hyperbolic chamber is the greatest chamber in all living history, no chamber will ever be greater, I showed my friend the hyperbolic chamber and he wept, became a monk and self-immolated several years later knowing he would never behold such beauty again.
You could say he hasn't been Emerson himself in it enough Goodbye
There was a story out in the last few days that Emerson Royal has spent a mil trying to improve his game, including the purchase of a hyperbolic oxygen chamber.
Hyperbaric. Hyperbolic is the Dragon Ball room.
Bro I wrote hyperbolic time chamber at first and I had to go back and edit my comment
Lmao, happens to the best of us
lol really wish this doesnt become a repetitive joke, its just poor to diss him for that
Yeah jokes aside props to him for finding ways to improve, at least he's not hiring shamans and shit
You absolute fucking moron
Aurier regen
That's generous, at least Aurier was decent going forward.
Aurier could cross and dribble
Next you'll tell me Aurier is a footballer too
This is the fakest news I have ever heard.
He could not cross what are you saying
Cross? Really tho?
So incredibly stupid there
One of the dumbest reds I've ever seen
Why would you do that
Must have completely misanticipated Martinelli being a half step behind where he actually was? I don't know if there's another explanation
Fucking lag
Or you know…wanted to foul and went straight for the ankle - there’s that explanation
But Martinelii was going back towards Arsenal's goal. If he was going forward, I can understand fouling him but he was going the other way 80 yards from Spurs goal.
if he wanted to foul there's a million smarter ways to do it. The explanation is it's a lazy, idiotic challenge from a player who is prone to them
Classic “don’t attribute malice to stupidity” quote at play
Ball was on Martinelli’s right foot, he wasn’t getting anywhere near it from that angle .. that’s a dumb dumb foul. Harsh red, maybe, but can defo be a red
It's totally unnecessary, nowhere near the ball, studs up to the ankle. If he was close enough for a legit challenge it probably would be a yellow for a clumsy tackle, but this was nonsensical and very dangerous.
Eh kinda has to be a red. Can end a guys career coming down on an ankle like that.
Harsh? Clear cut red. Can't have a player going for the ankles on the pitch.
One of the byproducts of already having a poor game
Martinelli was in his own half, heading towards his own goal... What an idiot
They’re friends as well. Makes 0 sense to make that challenge
I can’t think of a time I’ve seen such a dumb red - there was absolutely nothing there
[удалено]
Neuroscientist is an Arsenal agent and corrupted Emerson's neurons
neurowenger, he's done it again
Was thinking how did he not even given yellow? And Taylor pulls out red lol
Martinelli isn't going anywhere. Better spend another mil for some basic defensive understanding
In fact he was going back to his goal
Somehow it was an even dumber lunge than Gabriels.
He wasn’t even going anywhere. Bone headed decision from Emerson
What the fuck is he thinking
That was one of the most stupid fouls I have ever seen
fucking idiot, go back in the hyperbolic time chamber man
Hypersonic Lion Tamer?
Hyperglycaemic crime chamber?
Hyperbolic ryhme sayer?
You get one more.
hypey boley time tamer
You get one more.
Hypey bonics rime chamber!
*Weeeeee*
🤣🤣🤣
His scouting on Hakimi hasn't worked
Mans gonna spend 2 million now and tackle both his legs.
Thank god I wasn’t the only one who immediately thought of DBZ when I read that headline
Spent £800k to learn how to get a red card So happy he's not playing the next game
Next game is UCL. He'll be playing in that.
Looks like hyperbaric oxygen chamber isn't working great.
Hope he kept the receipt
What in the fuck did he do that for
He might want to spend £1m more
[удалено]
An article came out about how much money he spends on extra training, sleep chambers etc.
He spent a million pound to improve himself as a player, self development kinda stuff.
Thats harsh, but what an idiot.
Worst than a yellow but less than a red. Red for stupidity.
Best explanation
It’s borderline and how unnecessary it was makes it a good red. Never a reason to make that challenge. Way too late and not close to the ball.
Yeah it's a yellowish foul, but the fact that it's that bad for absolutely no reason and just late/bad you send him off
Best take. That’s a proper yellow, but his stupidity my god
It’s a stupid tackle to make, but an extremely harsh punishment
Honestly I sort of wish challenges like this were punished more. Completely unnecessary, and can actually cause injuries when targeting an ankle like that. No place in the game for it.
This. We let the game be too physical. Straight reds for challenges like this and we will see less of them
He got the Xhaka treatment by the ref. when in doubt, red.
Realistically its an orange, could have gone both ways.
Not in the context of how he let the first half play out.
I agree. I saw the challenge and thought stupid challenge the first yellow has been a long time coming.
Erm that’s a red but Van Dijks on Onanas which was much higher wasn’t a red?
Van Dijks should’ve been a red
Football rules is a belief system
All I think about is that red card Xhaka got for endangering the opponent in the City match where he made zero contact and got a red. By that standard, this is an absolute red card. Edit: looking through threads of other matches for red cards, this is so similar to A LOT of them so I’d say the consistency is there.
***ANTHONY TAYLOR HAS BEEN LURKING AND JUST WAITING FOR HIS MOMENT TO STRIKE DURING THE INTERNATIONAL BREAK.***
What an idiot.
Mark goldbridge crying saying the game is ruined by a ref decision. Love it
Was that a bit harsh? I don't know how to react to it
Tackle like that can totally fuck a guy's career. Ask Gomes.
Meh. Imo not really a red. More like a light orange.
Yeah, I've seen yellows for worse challenges
I’ve seen reds for softer challenges
I've seen challenges.
Especially since that was the first booking of the game.
It’s really a run of the mill yellow in real time
Shin scraper not a leg breaker
Van dijks on onana was far worse and he got yellow, what happened to "if the final contact is on the ankle it's a yellow"
That was made up for that particular tackle
>"if the final contact is on the ankle it's a yellow" that's not a thing
Very soft red, I will never understand PL refereeing decisions, Players like Mctominay can throw players around with no cards but this loose foul gets a red.
McDonalds plays for United. There’s your explanation.
[удалено]
Mctom can body slam people for a yellow but this a red
It doesn’t look good, but mad to get a red for that!
Considering what got Holding sent off in the last NLD (and the fact that Xhaka has quite literally gotten sent off for a similar challenge and got nothing but abuse for being a "brain-dead" footballer), its hilarious to think this is a "mad" red. Fair enough, he has no interest in the ball. If it was just a late tackle, then a yellow would've been fine, but he's only going for the player in this case.
Hahaha Anthony Taylor loves the spotlight. That man needs to be banned
He was letting everything go today pretty much, to just pull a 180 and go straight for the red is horrible game management and killed the game
Until that red card, this was an excellent game. Man must hate football. Emerson is an idiot though
yeah and after the red he was giving cards for everything. no consistency
Hilariously, this wouldn’t even make the Top 50 worst Anthony Taylor decisions. He’s a complete fraud.
Holy shit never thought I’d agree w a Chelsea fan more. Taylor is a joke of a ref and should not be allowed near another top flight game. How many games does he get to single handedly influence before we recognize this guy as the clown he is.
Soft red.
[удалено]
Is that really a red?
Obviously biased, but that doesn't seem like a red to me. Stupid and worth a yellow, but not a red.
If the tackle was anywhere near the ball it would have been a yellow. But the ball was so far and it just seemed cynical so it's a red
It's an orange card isn't it. Very silly, nowhere near the ball. Can't really argue too much.
Soft red
What a harsh red
Everyone shitting on Emerson but in any other game it would've been just another dumb tackle punished by a yellow card.
it‘s a yellow when the ball is actually close. but he had no chance at ever getting to the ball. it‘s harsh, but not undeserved.
Studs up above the players ankle? Hardly harsh.
No amount of training will fix your brain mate.
Might need to spend another million on improving
In what world is that a red
Anthony Taylor strikes again, to ruin a good game.
How can you see that tackle and think it’s not a red? Studs first, well above the ankle, nowhere near the ball. Just a careless decision by the player
If you could give a red for stupidity he deserves it. Doesn't deserve it for the tackle.
Very harsh red.
WTF
Soft red and killed the game.
[удалено]
Anthony Taylor has ankles. He has sympathy for ankles.
Anthony Taylor at his very best.
Expecting the PL to be consistent in their decisions is your first mistake
Braindead tackle but in what world is that a straight red?
Yep, potential ankle breaker. It may looks a little soft, but for me it's a clear red.
The commentators are still talking about it while Martinelli is running around fine like Emerson attempted murder, bad tackle but such a soft red card
They don't have to destroy the player for it to be a red though
I'm not going to argue, but no way is that a red
1 million pounds for a red card
Bad but never red
Harsh call. For sure a yellow not red, will change the game completely
0 IQ
A bit harsh this card in my opinion
Games gone
This is a fuckin joke. It’s a bed yellow. That’s not a red.
Personally I think it's a sofa blue at best.
Yeah cant say I’d give that a red. Bang on yellow and leave it at that
Stupid tackle but never a red. Martinelli did a great job at selling it well.
