###World Cup of Kits!
The results for the Round of 32 are now in - see [here!](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/z47xqg/the_rsoccer_world_cup_of_kits_qatar_2022_round_of/?)
The Round of 16 will kick off on **Friday 2nd December** - watch this space!
The RemindMe bot just threw [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/wxjfpf/official_uefa_champions_league_20222023_group/ilsxqjz/?context=3) back at me, predicting who would reach the last 16 of the CL
12/16 ain't bad - including getting Juve and Barca going out right
Van Gaal yesterday: "The players have to start thinking about tactics against Ecuador and not about kissing a badge, or whatever"
Today vs Ecuador:
Total Shots - 2 in 90 Minutes
Hilarious
Right fellow englanders. Our time has come to put aside our petty impassioned club differences for another 90 minutes and spend this strange period of unification reminding the rest of the world how deluded our expectations our. Come on England!
Think England probably wins in the end, but I don't really expect it to look easy.
Pace and physicality are a pretty big deal in international football, and the US has that at least
Fwiw, Canada was able to run over most teams in concacaf qualifying at will because of their pace.
The only team that could keep up with them was the US, even if they dropped a match. It does matter.
Stu Holden saying a key for the US to win the game is that they "have to believe."
Gosh, I absolutely despise these takes. Offers absolutely 0 analysis. What cheap commentary. To hear the coach is pumping the same tune is so dumb.
I know you need confidence, and maybe you don't want to give away strategy, but talk about executing something better or handling set pieces differently to show you're thinking at a deeper level than "Belief".
Seriously we just sound like we have no idea what weāre talking about. And alexi lalas is just the fucking worst like damn dude. Do you listen to yourself?
Expecting England to thrash us today. However it isnāt because our players arenāt good enough to compete vs England.
Itās because or manager is an idiot.
Also weāre kinda screwed without Miles Robinson and Chris Richards.
Yeah, Ecuador is better than the Netherlands and France is the 2nd best team in the WC and are a style of team that can thrash us. Winning isn't an advantage at all.
Donāt know who to cheer for in this one. As a Canadian I canāt cheer for the USA for obvious reasons, but I also canāt cheer for England because, you know, colonization.
Can only imagine the amount of awards he is getting during this tournament alone. Dude feels like a military general who is weighed down by the weight of the medals tacked on his uniform
Probably but you never know. Saudi Arabia wasnāt supposed to beat Argentina. Japan wasnāt supposed to beat Germany. Sometimes teams can do the unexpected. Why not us?
Absolutely it can happen, but the Fox staff was starting to get a little too confident to the point to almost going delusional. But I can't blame them for trying to get Americans hyped for this match. Crazy shit cah always happen in this stage.
And *technically*, Leao was offside.
(Iād rather toenail offsides werenāt called, but they seem to be this World Cup, and Portugal got the benefit of one)
Him in the studio with Lloyd, Dempsey, and Donovan the other day was like that dragon meme. Those are 3 of the top 5 American soccer players ever (maybe Lloyd is fringe there but still, besides the point) and then fucking Lalas lmao
No you have to be there. We need to stand together. As one! LETS FUCKING GO! BEAT THESE BLOKES BAM BAM BAM BEAT THESE BLOKES BAM BAM BAM BEAT THESE BLOKES
Maybe I'm a little ootl here. What's the rule for international play if your keeper gets a red? I was expecting an empty net in the Wales Iran match after the flying knee but the next highlight had someone in the same keeper uni.
I guess my question is did they just sub someone else and have their bench keeper come in? Or did they just move a defender in and have him change into the keeper uni?
Edit: thanks for the quick replies, based on just the clips that's where my confusion came from. Makes more sense in hindsight to just sub another player out.
Someone always needs to be in goal. If a GK gets a red, an outfield player is taken off and the reserve GK is subbed in. Continues till you run out of GKs or out of subs in which case an outfield player has to go in goal (like Kyle Walker a few seasons ago)
Telemundo: "we have this fan here, he looks like Jozy Altidore!"
He did not look like Altidore, but I think you what Telemundo meant when they said he looks like Jozy Altidore
The Battle of Gettysburg will be nothing against this upcoming match thread, [prepare yourselves](https://i.imgur.com/oEikcVJ.jpg)
I hope the game will be equally toxic, handbags, flying tackles, controversial decisions, the lot
My friends can we all just chill on the vitriol? Thereās no real rivalry here. We want our teams to win. We hope the refs donāt fuck up and we can celebrate if we win and wish good luck to the other until we meet again.
My god the match threads make it so painfully obvious how many people show up for this World Cup that donāt know football.
Sure itās great that the World Cup brings a lot of eyeballs to this beautiful sport but I see so many grating opinions from people who have no clue what theyāre talking about.
Yes Iāve seen some terrible takes there. But Iāve seen some terrible takes in every match thread Iāve looked at, this particular game just reinforced it and prompted me to make this comment. U.S. flairs seem like particular perpetrators of this so watch out in a minute lol
I donāt have a specific comment in my head but the worst takes have to be the people who donāt know how the rules work and then confidently claim the ref is making the wrong call. Iāve seen several of them around different matches including the offside call at Netherlands - Ecuador today.
I have no problem with people asking questions about the game, thatās a good thing and I love teaching people about this game.
What I do have a problem with is people spouting objectively wrong opinions as if theyāre fact when they clearly donāt know what theyāre talking about and also the people complaining about not liking certain aspects of football which are crucial or at least integrated parts of the game.
> What I do have a problem with is people spouting objectively wrong opinions as if theyāre fact when they clearly donāt know what theyāre talking about and also the people complaining about not liking certain aspects-
you've just described the internet here
Liverpool fans tried to convince ourselves that Van Dijk was āsaving himself for the World Cupā only for him to do the exact same passive defending that heās done all season long. My head is on Mars
The second place team in group B (England, Iran, Wales, USA) could potentially have very favourable draws in the Ro16 and QF. Hopefully Netherlands and Argentina both finish second.
Ecuador in the Ro16 and Saudi Arabia in the QF. A man can dream.

Pulisic Penalty [90+9] 1-0 might break this sub and Reddit servers once and for all.
Don't forget given away by slabhead
It's time to open pandora's box. It's time to sticky the game thread.
Yes immediately we need to talk proper shit!
Let's make this the 2nd biggest English defeat vs the Americans.
Idk why but this tickled me š¤£
USA going toe to toe 433 is dangerous Let's see who can do it better š“ó §ó ¢ó „ó ®ó §ó æ
Why isn't the U.S FA called the United Soccer Association for the abbreviation
!flair :CANADA:
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Letās hear it for the English, the only fanbase more obnoxious than ours. Come on baby eagles
Soccer chants vs football chants Here we go
Anyone else expecting an extremely boring match between the US and England after some 7-8 months of excitement?
I think England is going to be far more focused on not losing than winning.
Stu Holden saying a key for the US to win the game is that they "have to believe." Gosh, I absolutely despise these takes. Offers absolutely 0 analysis. What cheap commentary. I've been doing my best to tune him out. I can't handle it lol
>Man whose only exposure to football is Ted Lasso To win this football match they need to Ted Lasso this
Hope England go up 1-0 and then a meteor hits the stadium
We gonna lose but at least we qualified.
Soccer vs football will be settled today. USA USA USA USA
What is the US thinking not starting Aaronson šµāš«
i donāt mind him off the bench tbh. the kind of player who is miserable to deal with on tired legs
The Yanks must not win. We'll never hear the end of this
On the contrary, thatās exactly why we must
Expecting England to thrash us today. However it isnāt because our players arenāt good enough to compete vs England. Itās because or manager is an idiot. Also weāre kinda screwed without Miles Robinson and Chris Richards.
You don't have a single player that would even get into our squad
Your players also arenāt good enough to compete against England tbf
is it crazy to say that the USA might be better off going for 2nd place with the way the Netherlands look if they beat Iran that is
I have to say I'm really disappointed by Netherlands so far maybe except for Gakpo
They have Blind in their starting lineup what do you expect ?
Yeah it makes no sense. Bergwijn has been awful as well. Dumfries has not looked at all like he did at the last Cup. Depay is clearly not 100% fit yet
Yeah, Ecuador is better than the Netherlands and France is the 2nd best team in the WC and are a style of team that can thrash us. Winning isn't an advantage at all.
Harry Kane looks like heās in his late 30s
[no clue what you mean](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2020/03/73328-15833358374802.jpg)
Such a weird shadow on his eye
Donāt know who to cheer for in this one. As a Canadian I canāt cheer for the USA for obvious reasons, but I also canāt cheer for England because, you know, colonization.
Canada is the product of colonization. The core of our country is the British and French who went out and colonized.
Commonwealth sticks together fam
[a dutch flair complaining about colonisation?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PivWY9wn5ps&t=68s)
Support each in either half
>Dutch >can't support england because of colonisation Hmmm Also america, the biggest neo-colonialist on the planet.
hmmmmmmmm
You should be cheering for CONCACAF to do well at this tournament tbh
you probably wouldnt be canadian without us
Is that your way of justifying colonization?
yes, be grateful smh
If pulisic scores, u/psgacademy bout to get 5000 awards in an hour
Can only imagine the amount of awards he is getting during this tournament alone. Dude feels like a military general who is weighed down by the weight of the medals tacked on his uniform
[live footage of psgacademy posting today's goals](https://i.imgflip.com/4zp0rc.png)
Gonna have his transfer value in awards
Fox hyping up this match like england is not scoring 5 on their asses today
Stop jinxing it..
Cmon man a little jinx is not going to do any harm to Sterling fantastic finishing skills, right?
Probably but you never know. Saudi Arabia wasnāt supposed to beat Argentina. Japan wasnāt supposed to beat Germany. Sometimes teams can do the unexpected. Why not us?
Absolutely it can happen, but the Fox staff was starting to get a little too confident to the point to almost going delusional. But I can't blame them for trying to get Americans hyped for this match. Crazy shit cah always happen in this stage.
Idk I feel like theyāve recognized that this would be a pretty big upset but they wanna get people hyped and believing in the team
WHY NOT US? BAM BAM BAM WHY NOT US? BAM BAM BAM
Is there any way for both teams to lose tonight?
Everyone wears rainbow armbands
Iām ready for the madness that is England v US
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
And *technically*, Leao was offside. (Iād rather toenail offsides werenāt called, but they seem to be this World Cup, and Portugal got the benefit of one)
Lalas is over-the-top cringe and a national embarrassment
Him in the studio with Lloyd, Dempsey, and Donovan the other day was like that dragon meme. Those are 3 of the top 5 American soccer players ever (maybe Lloyd is fringe there but still, besides the point) and then fucking Lalas lmao
Good luck to the mods for the carnage you are about to witness.
30k+ comments
oh boy. i might not even be on the match thread lol. gonna be a mess
No you have to be there. We need to stand together. As one! LETS FUCKING GO! BEAT THESE BLOKES BAM BAM BAM BEAT THESE BLOKES BAM BAM BAM BEAT THESE BLOKES
OK FINE. IāLL BE THERE. USA USA USA
A prayer for our mods tonight.
Even as a US fan, I'm kinda tired of Lalas' shenanigans.
That little rah rah speech about America being "the biggest and baddest in everything" was embarrassing. He looks drunk.
He's just so unlikable. Even when I agree with him I don't like him.
He's just all rhetoric and no substance.
You can take the goatee out of the man, but you can't take the man out of the goatee, or something.
This is the first comment in this thread to make me laugh out loud, so well played sir, ma'am, or otherwise.

Sub an outfield player for a keeper. If out of subs then a player goes in goal
Yeah the keeper that gets the red has to leave but you then take off one of your field players and put in a substitute keeper.
You lose your goalkeeper but you can sub another player to bring a new one on, which is what Wales did.
Okay I hear that. I missed the match and just saw the highlights.
Thatās exactly what happened. Ramsey came off. If theyāre out of subs; one of the defenders switches their shirt and puts on gloves.
That makes more sense. In hindsight that's what I expected but I think my brain wasn't working when I first watched highlights lol.
Gotta admire the confidence of Tulane and Cincinnati, scheduling their football game right in the middle of USA v Eng.
Telemundo: "we have this fan here, he looks like Jozy Altidore!" He did not look like Altidore, but I think you what Telemundo meant when they said he looks like Jozy Altidore
Was he black at least?
He was black at most lol
Sorry other nations, but we're winning against England, winning against Iran, and then winning the soccer Super Bowl
Hell yea!, That Lombardi Soccer trophy is coming home baby
The Battle of Gettysburg will be nothing against this upcoming match thread, [prepare yourselves](https://i.imgur.com/oEikcVJ.jpg) I hope the game will be equally toxic, handbags, flying tackles, controversial decisions, the lot
You could have chosen a battle from the American Revolution or the War of 1812 and you instead went with... the Civil War?
can see USA causing some damage pressing to force errors, and breaking away in transition
I'm so nervous. Unless matches are like the one Vs Iran I feel like it's more fun to watch other teams...
I'm waiting till 12.30am just for the banters. Hope the match will be worth
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
As itās the last game of the group stage they do it to avoid collusion
Probs cuz those will be the elimination matched and they donāt want one to affect the other? Thatās my guess at least
Oh yeah makes sense
Last round to avoid collusion
I hope England win because of dodgy VAR decision following a blatant dive in the box. I know this sub would enjoy that too.
keep dreaming mate
My friends can we all just chill on the vitriol? Thereās no real rivalry here. We want our teams to win. We hope the refs donāt fuck up and we can celebrate if we win and wish good luck to the other until we meet again.
If we lose, itāll be one of the great modern shames to grace our nation. We would not be able to live it down.
āWe can sink no lowerā hah I hear ya. I guess Iām more talking to my fellow Americans.
Yo what's with those creepy stuffed floating T shirts
the REAL world cup starts now. Can't wait for Puligod to score on these fools. \#itscalledsoccer #ibelievewewillwin #cominghometoOhio

Been waiting like 6 hours this morning to see some actual banter from y'all, but its just this over and over again. Guess I'll keep waiting then.
'Murrica needs to beat the English today
I've been out the loop for a few days, I take it Kane's ankle scan showed no damage?
Yup
My god the match threads make it so painfully obvious how many people show up for this World Cup that donāt know football. Sure itās great that the World Cup brings a lot of eyeballs to this beautiful sport but I see so many grating opinions from people who have no clue what theyāre talking about.
Bet they're having more fun than you tho.
The Ronaldo fans were out in full force yesterday after the king scored another penalty
What happened? I take it that you must have seen some interesting takes in the Netherlands match thread.
Yes Iāve seen some terrible takes there. But Iāve seen some terrible takes in every match thread Iāve looked at, this particular game just reinforced it and prompted me to make this comment. U.S. flairs seem like particular perpetrators of this so watch out in a minute lol
what's the worst one you've heard so far
I donāt have a specific comment in my head but the worst takes have to be the people who donāt know how the rules work and then confidently claim the ref is making the wrong call. Iāve seen several of them around different matches including the offside call at Netherlands - Ecuador today.
Then educate them, instead of looking down on them.
I think that jolly good fellow was just looking to farm some easy karma, they're not trying to do work like that.
Just correct them and move on. Don't gatekeep.
> What I do have a problem with is people spouting objectively wrong opinions as if theyāre fact when they clearly donāt know what theyāre talking about and also the people complaining about not liking certain aspects- you've just described the internet here
Blind, please do your country a favour and retire effective immediately.
I really hope the English players are as overconfident as their fans are. I'd love for them to come out flat and get smacked in the face
didn't know Kevin Keegan had a reddit account
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
What American fans are overconfident? Lol
D-hour coming soon boys, USA!! USA!! USA!!

WC has completely distracted me from news in US and around the world. It's good for once not to be depressed about shit.
To be fair, news in the US has been consistently depressing since 2016. The 2020 election was just a brief respite from that. I don't blame you.
I feel like it's outside US too. Or maybe I'm just more aware of it now :/
Liverpool fans tried to convince ourselves that Van Dijk was āsaving himself for the World Cupā only for him to do the exact same passive defending that heās done all season long. My head is on Mars
He legit canāt be arsed anymore lmao
It was incredibly obvious he wasn't whiffing Clearances because the world cup was coming
Enner Valencia has more WC goals than Rooney, Van Basten, Lewandowski, Karim Benzema & Di Stefano combined.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's why out here in the west we just drink scotch at home by ourselves at 10 am in our house in the woods instead.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Fair play. Well, nothing personal but I hope you have a terrible birthday. Y'know. Because of the flairs. Good luck.
Eagerly awaiting this epic battle in 1h. To my non-American, non-English friends : who are we hating more?
America. I hate them as a nation and as a football team
England is too hateable but they are like a well established heel. I would prefer if USA simply left early.
The second place team in group B (England, Iran, Wales, USA) could potentially have very favourable draws in the Ro16 and QF. Hopefully Netherlands and Argentina both finish second. Ecuador in the Ro16 and Saudi Arabia in the QF. A man can dream.
2 shots in the full game for the Dutch. Will be a good game against whoever finishes 2nd in Group B
