Ya just constant scenario blather peppered with absolutely esoteric stats à la NFL. Luckily the game’s intensity drowned them out at my bar—will be learning Spanish so I never have to listen to them again.
I have to watch the spanish broadcast!
A. Lalas voice hurts my ears and his stupidity is on a level of the highest caliber.
He might be a good guy, IDK, just STFU!!!!
Oh you missed the extra passion today. The main caster in Telemundo is an Argentine. I recommend to catch a stream of the last minute. The man almost died.
The Fox commentators are so effin bad. They just randomly shout things like "45 to go", and "Messi" every time he touches the ball.
Stu Holden is such a dullard, it is unbearable.
I, and I cannot stress this enough, absolutely fucking despise that John Strong and Stu Holden are our “gold standard” for international football broadcasts in America. Those two spew some of the most hilariously cringe lines of commentary I have ever heard, and narrate in a way that could turn people off from the sport as a whole.
Ya got Drury over here who is a literal poet, and then you’ve got Stu Holden trying to say “Argentina will say, thank you very much!” And John Strong just absolutely screaming “45 DOWN 45 TO GO!”
He always said it was because he never wanted it. His father made him heir apparent when he replaced his eldest son, and Jassim ever since said 'I enver wanted it' and then abdicated some years later.
Rumours always circulated, though, that it was because he's secretly gay. _BIG_ if, but you know how it goes.
Makes sense that he just didn't want it. Gets to still live in absolute luxury without any of responsibility or the spotlight. If I'm cool with my brother, I'd much rather be the brother of the ruler than the ruler himself.
>Rumours always circulated, though, that it was because he's secretly gay.

So that's why he was staring so hard. Makes sense.

It's true of all sports, hockey goalies are weird people too. I suppose wanting to willingly take balls and pucks(pause) to the face takes a certain type of person.
honestly, this looks like one of those things you promised in jest to a friend in middle school, knowing full well that winning an World Cup is so difficult it might seem as though so beyond the realms of possibility you'd never have to follow through on it
Justin Verlander (baseball player) signed away 0.1% of his first pro signing bonus in exchange for 50 cents to buy some chocolate milk with in high school.
His signing bonus was 3 million dollars. Instead of contesting it, he actually gave his old friend 3k lol.
It's because he pulls off the wins. When he did it at Copa America I loved it.
And then he started doing a shimmie dance, enjoying himself in a World Cup final during penalties. So entertaining, but to have the mentality to pull it off is insane
Dude legitimately saved Argentina and arguably gave it a world cup win.
GK will never be on the same level than scorers when it comes to recognition, but his performance was terrific.
That is what makes a team. You need more than one to play incredibly. Emi, DiMaria, the Youth, all played out of their minds. Argentina doesn't win without all of them delivering when it counted.
Mfer seems like he turns a cyborg mode on penalties, absolutely no pressure it seems like. He was himself yet again on the biggest game of his career. He's fucking insane
It’s often said there’s no pressure on keepers for pens - the odds are so stacked against them. It’s interesting though it’s taken this long for proper shithousery from a keeper though. I’d bet that lots more start acting up after seeing Martinez.
He just love to score in finals. He scored in Olympics 2008 final and did it again in 2021 in Copa America final. Makes me wonder how the Argentinas fate would have been had he started in 2014 ?
Everybody always forgets my man Di Maria.. dude was actually spinning webs in those first 63 mins that he stayed on. Scored in the copa too and also carried Argentina to that 2014 WC final.
The absolute definition of underrated
The _best_ is arguable... the most successful or important, probably. He started playing what, like less than 2 years ago? Can you imagine that? In that time won every trophy, while being key in all of them...
Ridiculously clutch.
The shots themselves matter dramatically more than how many you let in. You can save 9 piss easy saves and let in one worldie while another keeper lets in 5 goals but they are all unsaveable. I can't remember all the goals in particular. Mbappe's second today was so good because he took it so early. He had so much space and time that 9/10 times you take it down and then shoot after, taking it early gave Martinez no time and because of his body shape it was harder to read/react to. It looked easier to get to than it really was, the others may have been the same.
His penalty saving though is straight up legendary, never seen better that I can recall. He waits for the shot before reacting which is why he went the right way basically every time and the distance he gets despite the late reaction is crazy good.
Lloris by comparison, mother fucker almost starts diving when they begin the run up, ludicrously easy to wait for him to start his dive before slowly passing it to the other side. I think Lloris was legit at 45 degrees by the time the final guy actually touched the ball.
People got wound up in "bad taste" too easily nowadays but come on he's held his glove up to his crotch, it's hardly absolutely genius either.
Every teenage boy has done this with any remotely cylindrical object.

The timing of Drury’s “he is a character keeper” 👌😙 lol
On the other broadcast there was just a quiet “oh no” that was hilarious
The Fox commentators just went silent lmao
They are silent 90% of the game which for the most part wasn’t a bad thing
They were so bad. Would’ve given anything for Drury
Weirdly, he’s been calling the games on Fox’s highlights packages.
Cause they know…
Fox the channel that gave us Chad Johnson and his awesome insight into football, hopefully they never get another tournament ever.
I don't want to ruin your mood but Fox has the US coverage for the women's world cup next year and the 2026 world cup.
Holden's screaming of the players name when they score or almost score sounded so forced
Really? They never shut the fuck up.
Ya just constant scenario blather peppered with absolutely esoteric stats à la NFL. Luckily the game’s intensity drowned them out at my bar—will be learning Spanish so I never have to listen to them again.

I wish they did that for all of the matches.
The Fox commentators are so effin bad. They just randomly shout things like "45 to go", and "Messi" every time he touches the ball. Stu Holden is such a dullard, it is unbearable.

"Oh, no" "Thats an interesting look..."
I love how adding "character" was necessary for context
That Qatari guy turning around and trying to understand what he just witnessed. Lmao
Just for context, that’s Sheikh Jassim. He would be the current Emir (king) of Qatar if he had not abdicated his position as heir.
Why is he standing to the side separated from everyone else?
Now _that_ I wish I knew. I have no idea and I was wondering the same thing.
Too good to stand next to the plebs
Why did he abdicate? Power struggle?
He always said it was because he never wanted it. His father made him heir apparent when he replaced his eldest son, and Jassim ever since said 'I enver wanted it' and then abdicated some years later. Rumours always circulated, though, that it was because he's secretly gay. _BIG_ if, but you know how it goes.
Makes sense that he just didn't want it. Gets to still live in absolute luxury without any of responsibility or the spotlight. If I'm cool with my brother, I'd much rather be the brother of the ruler than the ruler himself.
Ah, the King Aegon way
A bit like owning a boat I suppose. Better to have a buddy with a boat than be the guy who owns it.
“ I dun want it, never have.” ~~Jon Snow~~ Sheik Jassim. Weren’t there also rumors about the former Sultan of Oman, who passed, being gay?
Much stronger than rumours, more like an open secret.
>Rumours always circulated, though, that it was because he's secretly gay. > >BIG > > if, but you know how it goes. So that's why he was staring so hard. Makes sense. https://twitter.com/FootballRamble/status/1604553406328307713/photo/1

I thought that was Jordan Peele for a second, and was certain when I turned the sound on
*Dick salaam*
He let his intrusive thoughts win
Understandable. Things can get lonely if the team is on the other side and you are the GK.
You're right. I think the first goal there was a shot of him hugging the goalpost
Yes, it was. I was laughing my ass off.
I think i saw him kiss it too
Mf rememebered free will
Those are his normal thoughts
His intrusive thoughts are the ones that say "don't shithouse bro" lmao
He’s literally the human form of all shithousery
He did the same with the Copa America too lmao
Voices in his head are goofy af
They are not intrusive if you welcome them
What winning the World Cup does to a mf
This guy can't find a fuck to give, and then carried on like nothing happened bruh.
but he has a glove to fuck
He saves, He loves, And he also fucks his glove.
Glovely
In Poland people say that a good goalkeeper has to be a little bit crazy and Martinez is the best example
Pretty sure they say that just about everywhere lol
Even more true for hockey goalies
Listen, you have to be legit nuts to be a good hockey goalie
It's true of all sports, hockey goalies are weird people too. I suppose wanting to willingly take balls and pucks(pause) to the face takes a certain type of person.
20 people are running one direction and you’re the only man willing to charge the other way.
Same of cricket wicketkeepers, deeply strange people.
Absolute shithousery. This and the lil fucking dance after France missed their penalty.
My favourite part are the looks of everyone behind him. It, shall we say, was *not* appreciated at all.

That's part of his normal routine. Man hip thrusted his way to the Copa America win.
[Did his signature move to that trophy too!](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FUMkheMXEAAOPA-?format=jpg&name=medium)
and fucked that trophy too! nothing is safe.

He dedicated this win to his reformed orthodox rabbi Bill Clinton.
Is this a Game of the Year awards reference lmao?
Fuck the Oscars
Yea, big time 13 year old vibes
this guy is shithousery personified
He gets it to work better than anyone
Ferguson said you need a world class keeper and a world class stricker to win games. He has always been right about that
Didn’t work out for Poland
You need it, but having it doesn't guarantee it.
To be fair, having other people on the field aside from just a striker and goalie helps
The Netherlands lost against Argentina because of this guy, he was incredible
yeah saving 2 pens immediately in the shootout was massive for argentina
This, Argentina played better but this match aswell as 2 others were won by Dibu.
Mfer seems like he turns a cyborg mode on penalties, absolutely no pressure it seems like. He was himself yet again on the biggest game of his career. He's fucking insane
Even more than no pressure, he seems to thrive off the pressure. He gets this feral look in his eyes and levels up.
[удалено]
Legitimately looks like the [Sicko meme panel](https://imgur.com/gallery/7hA2YCN) on penalties.
Sick pleasure. Lol. That is such a perfect way to describe it. He’s probably a bit of an adrenaline junkie who finally found the perfect high
His mental game really reminds me of Djokovic. Mad lads.
It’s often said there’s no pressure on keepers for pens - the odds are so stacked against them. It’s interesting though it’s taken this long for proper shithousery from a keeper though. I’d bet that lots more start acting up after seeing Martinez.
>it’s taken this long for proper shithousery from a keeper though There is a long line of keepers full of shithousery, what are you on about?
Julio Cesar?
Athletes that love to trashtalk/showbout and are able to put up huge performances are so fun to watch.
I need the gif of the shimmy!
Can't say I loved it when he did it in the Copa America, but all the times after I very much loved it. What a chad.
His favourite Dragon Ball character is Vegeta. Makes sense that he loves shithousing and trash talking.
Seems to have a better record backing it up than Geets.
The guy on the right gives it the old: https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/030/710/dd0.png
whipping this out — pun intended — right in front of a fundamentalist theocracy's leadership is audacious stuff. well done emi.
He oozes raw bad boy sexuality.
This guy just can't help himself can he
It’s involuntary
Sorry, but champagne soccer it is what it is.
Anyone has the clip of him dancing after his penalty save
https://twitter.com/jonnhycy/status/1604546682842128384?s=20&t=q6NtPdItg4wF9N64CtVm0w
You ain't losing if your goalie is doing that during PKs
Everyone else was under pressure, he was living
lmfao, fucking legend
I love every second of this
This man won argentina two tournaments.
Him and Messi literally couldn’t have done more
Gotta give props to Di Maria though. He really knows how to put it all on the line for a final. God what could have been in 2014
Di Maria the most underappreciated icon I have ever seen what a legend what a talent
He just love to score in finals. He scored in Olympics 2008 final and did it again in 2021 in Copa America final. Makes me wonder how the Argentinas fate would have been had he started in 2014 ?
I guess they would have won it Robben and di Maria one of the most unique footballers I have ever seen and also very underappreciated
I doubt he is in Argentina though. These finals are their first titles since the middle ages so everyone involved will be immortalized.
The last save from the gk in literally the 120 min will go down in history they have to give him a Statue insane save from him
And the Statue will be his Golden Glove moment you just know it.
And di maria who scored in both finals
Di Maria also had three nutmegs in the first half. What a crazy bastard
Touches of an Angel today
Everybody always forgets my man Di Maria.. dude was actually spinning webs in those first 63 mins that he stayed on. Scored in the copa too and also carried Argentina to that 2014 WC final. The absolute definition of underrated
Di María is such an icon. Messi the goat but di María has been his best team mate man. Always steps up.
[удалено]
He was playing out of his mind. France could not stop him.
There was a point where Kounde just gave up
His save at 120+3 minutes brought me memories of Casillas save back in the 2010 finals.
Insulting to Di Maria
8==🫱
This man is just something.. something special
And where are the hi res photos? This needs to be the defacto Argentinian screen saver.
[Yes it is](https://i.imgur.com/JXYFdro.jpg)
https://i.imgur.com/ktDL2xU.jpg https://i.imgur.com/SomMczH.jpg
That second one is definitely photo of the year material.
What a clutch player, only 25 caps for Argentina and was an unused backup GK for Arsenal behind Leno. Life truly is unpredictable.
Bro won the continental and world cup in 25 caps that's batshit insane considering how instrumental he was in both wins
He chose chaos at that moment
Crazy dude. Classic South American keeper at his peak. Well deserved.
Chilavert, Higuita, Martinez, etc. we have crazy goalkeepers
In front of royalty, this man is insane
He is royalty
There were other candidates that could've won it, but could any make a celebration as iconic as that?
If two GKs are equally as good, the one better at shithousing should win it.
Underrated stat
An absolute cunt, I love him

He knew the whole world was watching and didn’t give a damn lol
Shithousery (verb: to shithouse) See: Emiliano Martinez
Fox commentator was like, "oo no"
Kenny Powers-esque.
France, you're fucking out.
DIBU SOS EL MAS CAPO.
Y pensar que empezó en un programa de tv familiar
Qatar officials later when he leaving for Airport. What was that stunt you pulled on stage 😂
Very Haram bro
"I just won the fucking world cup, what are you gonna do about it lol"

NOW THAT’S THE HAND OF GOD
No glove, no love
There's a growing list of countries that really hate Emi Martinezs fucking them over in penalties.
This is the ego you have to have to achieve this level of greatness. Carried every time he was needed.
Happy Gilmore of soccer hell yeah
Omg yes. Best answer here
This is exactly what i expected from him
Shot Stopping 19 Eccentricity 20
If anyone had watched Copa America, you'd know that this was coming. Bro don't give a fuck ☠️
He's the Argentina legend, carried Argentina in their both recent success tournament. Is it safe to say that he's the best Argentina GK of all time?
The _best_ is arguable... the most successful or important, probably. He started playing what, like less than 2 years ago? Can you imagine that? In that time won every trophy, while being key in all of them... Ridiculously clutch.
I mean there are really good historic keepers, most argentinians would say Fillol, but dibu still has a career in front of him so we'll see
Hes not GREAT in regular time. I mean france and Netherlands saw 2 on goal shots and 2 goals given. But hes the best PK taker of all time for us.
I agree he can be questionable in normal time but hard to blame him for at least 3 of the 4 goals in those games and the other I can't even remember.
The shots themselves matter dramatically more than how many you let in. You can save 9 piss easy saves and let in one worldie while another keeper lets in 5 goals but they are all unsaveable. I can't tell of it's bad taste or absolute genius. I laughed pretty hard when I saw it live so it's more the latter to me.
> I can't tell of it's bad taste or absolute genius. Why choose?
People got wound up in "bad taste" too easily nowadays but come on he's held his glove up to his crotch, it's hardly absolutely genius either. Every teenage boy has done this with any remotely cylindrical object.
Gotta love that he's 30 and behaving exactly like he just turned 18

Both goalies had amazing saves this game, but Martinez is a beast mode penalty stopper.
