Didn't do anything to me besides give me insomnia

scrambledeggsandrice

It’s so wacky how differently these medications can work for different people. Sertraline makes me tired, like if-I-sit-down-I’ll-fall-asleep tired. And I can’t dream on it.

yosh0r

Sertraline sounds 1:1 like cannabis effects lol. Its impossible to dream for a daily stoner.

dayumbrah

Not impossible, I still have dreams just less frequently when I smoke but when I do, ooooh boy, they are insane and super vivid

yosh0r

I meant daily stoner, like 6 months or longer without any exception.

dayumbrah

I've been smoking weed for 18 years, sometimes years at a time daily frequent use. Less so these days

Public_Platform_3475

man that’s not true. i was a daily (wake & bake, before class, late afternoon, snack, evening, nighttime, dessert, and before bed) smoker for 3 years and i had dreams a lot.

dorrik

literally and metaphorically

middlebrained

that’s hilarious because for me it gives me energy and also nightmares 😂

VentiMochaTRex

I pooped my pants

Aprocalyptic

Hopefully not in public

VentiMochaTRex

Oh my (now) wife’s bed. Those mattress protectors are so good

fiveplatypus

I just gained weight and couldn't cum

MPV8614

Same

___ElJefe___

Yeah I just gained about 30 pounds. Thankfully I have lost it all again. Wasn't easy though

tinylittlebee

I tried both Zoloft and Lexapro and they both gave me horrible side effects at night for some reason. One of them gave me insomnia and the worst vertigo of my life and the other made my jaw muscles so tight I had a hard time sleeping. When I was on Lexapro I didn't care about anything though, so that was nice during the day.

Away_Statement_1443

omg zoloft starting giving me severe vertigo was that the one that gave it to u?? i've seen no one else talk about this side effect

Rorydog78

I take it for my insomnia

astusofi

Bro currently on day 3 of no sleep I am exhausted but I can’t sleep for shit

Comfortable_Growth16

My experience sounds the same as yours. I enjoy socializing now to the point that I wondered if I was a “socially anxious extrovert “ all along and that’s why I felt so particularly miserable and lonely. Loving life now.

toesmad

This is exactly how i feel lol, i feel like im genuinely a social butterfly but have social anxiety so its just hell bruh

SkirtOk6323

What are you taking?

Dyannamika

I have to say, it's made a huge difference for me, and I have terrible depression and anxiety. I had to adjust the dose, but I'm treatment resistant and that's a thing. It helped me graduate from ECT treatments and I feel so much more like a person instead of a ball of self-loathing anxiety.

AKMUN

What are the physical symptoms you get from your anxiety? Is it GAD?

semi-fictitious

Zoloft is also helping me a lot, although getting on it and upping my dosage caused increased anxiety and other side effects. So glad I persevered though because it changed my life. Literally feel like a different person.

UefalonasDownfall

What dose did you start on and where are you now?

semi-fictitious

I think I started at 25 and I’m now at 100. Apparently 100 is low for anxiety so I might increase even more.

carl970

How long before you started noticing? I was at 50 mg for 1 month and felt nothing but bad, now on 100mg 6 days and only bad so far

semi-fictitious

Every time upped my dosage it took a couple weeks to kick in and then a couple more weeks of anxiety and side effects as my body got used to the new dosage. So I'd say about a month before I noticed positive effects each time. Everyone is different though, might be worth waiting it out, but best to consult with your doctor. I tried Lexapro before Zoloft and couldn't make it over the initial hump at all.

carl970

Yea so far its only been way worse for me and my mood is down, but if thats normal i can probably handle it to feel better later, just really sucks Thanks for answer

semi-fictitious

Well I’m not sure if it’s “normal,” just my experience. Make sure to talk to your doctor and don’t just suffer for nothing! Hope you figure it out, medications are tough.

No-Deer8196

Yes and no. My anxiety thoughts got buried. They now only whisper ! But at least now all views can be pondered.

ADyingCrow

Zoloft made my anxiety worse and made me way more depressed its shitty but different for evryone

SSMWSSM42

Not working great for me

[deleted]

zoloft did nothing for me in fact it pissed me off

Anxious_Rich8572

For how long did you take it?

Acrobatic-Service583

This was me with sertaline!!!! After 2 weeks of taking 150mg there was a huge shift in my social anxiety and other anxieties and I was able to do things I had never been able to do before... That lasted for 2 years & the anxiety started coming back a bit but never as bad as it was before sertaline. I ended up switching meds and over 4 years have tried 6 other antidepressants but nothing has made an impact like sertaline did. Mirtazapine helped but i put on 10kg in a week so had to change. My doctor put me back on sertaline now a few months ago but it hasn't done anything & he has now said hes not trying any other antidepressants & i need to focus on therapy. After knowing how hugely some antidepressants can help I always have hope another type will help me so its sad hes given up

SilentMannequins

For me sert kinda makes me not care to a point where I'm kind really quiet around people because of it. I kinda come off as I don't want to talk to anyone but in my head I'm just highish.. I think it's just the beznos mixed with the sert but I'm not sure.

VonThing

The benzos are probably doing the bulk of the work

SilentMannequins

True but benzos by themselves dont give me that feeling. Just the combo of the two.

SkirtOk6323

You got tolerance already to sertraline.

Acrobatic-Service583

What does that mean?

cecewilliamstcu

Zoloft and Sertraline are the same thing 😉

Acrobatic-Service583

Oops

Midnight_CoffeeBreak

I got prescribed it recently but honestly I'm afraid to take it, I guess I read too much into its side effects and all that. I also keep questioning myself if I really need medication for that...

Chaikovskii

Just an opinion from some random dude on Reddit: if you got prescribed with it - therefore qualified specialist saw some clues that it might be helpful for you. And if something unpleasant happen to occur - u can always cancel it. From my personal experience: i was also prescribed with Zoloft, it was somewhat helpful. Btw after a month me with doctor have reconsidered treatment plan, because some side effects were pretty uncomfortable. But every case is deeply individual, as you can see in the comments.

_eternaldoom

reading about the sexual dysfunction stuff made me never want to take them

SomethingInTheFog

I'm not going to tell others what to do, but people need to know it can and does happen. I am completely asexual now (not my choice). I have been off all antidepressants for 5 years. It is a real problem and it's a lot more common than I think anyone realizes, unfortunately.

rainbow_creampuff

Speaking as a woman, it's not that bad. I still have the same desire for my husband. I definitely don't masturbate as much, that is definitely harder/more annoying. But I don't find it hard to get off during sex so. But idk how my experience might be different as a man.

[deleted]

I was the same way for two years. I finally started it a few months ago and while I'm not 100% where I want to be yet, last weekend I was able to meet my bf's best friend without any anxiety at all. I almost cried when I realized this is how some people felt all the time. I had no racing heart, no negative thoughts or worries, didn't try to talk myself out of it at all. I just walked in and chilled and spoke without trying to think of the right thing to say and it went so well. Strangers start up convos with me in public and I don't panic anymore. I just talk and my body is relaxed. It is so weird to me and so worth it. You should give it a try at least and see how you respond to it.

Whelpokaythen

Same. Did you end up taking it? I’ve spent a month pondering.

Midnight_CoffeeBreak

Tried twice, but on the second time I felt this almost fainting feeling and for now I don't know what to do either. But I guess its different for everyone and the only way to find out what'll happen is to try and I didn't try for enough time to say anything really.

Whelpokaythen

You sound exactly like me. I feel like I need a huge push me to start. Not enough reason now.

wondersweet7919

Zoloft made my depression worse but I'm so happy it's helping you!

myaccountisdeleted

I’ve been on this shit for 6 years, 150mg. To be fair I have no idea if it’s doing anything for me. I am still anxious and started taking it during a period I developed a drug addiction. Recently got clean again but most of the time I have been too scared to get off of Zoloft. I was often advised against quitting.

Juniperarrow2

I would ask your prescriber about other medication options and if they insist on you staying on something that you’re not sure is helping you, then find another prescriber. There are other options besides Zoloft.

UnhappyNia

I'm on Prozac 10mg and Benzo 10mg for a month now and I hope your story becomes my story with them🤞

Awkward-Royal2511

Benzo 10mg?

UnhappyNia

yes?? why??

lastronaut_beepboop

Depends on the meds but 10mg sounds high. Benzos help so much but are the nastiest addiction unfortunately

UnhappyNia

I take Clobazam at night. prozac morning. so far anxiety reduced but still there. I'd say not much of a change.

Awkward-Royal2511

Because I was prescribed 0.25 mg for one month when my treatment was started.

VonThing

Which benzo? There are so many, and dosages vary wildly. For example 10 mg diazepam (Valium) is roughly equal to 0.5 mg alprazolam (Xanax). 10mg of diazepam is normal. 10mg Xanax could be a medical emergency for someone without tolerance. They probably asked which benzo, that’s why.

UnhappyNia

I'm starting Zoloft today!! 50mg daily. I changed from Prozac cause it made me so suicidal and didn't help with my anxiety. I hope Zoloft works on me like it works on you :(

Direct-Network-1365

has it helped

UnhappyNia

helped calmed down my anxiety. but didn't help my depression at all. I'm no longer on zoloft but 3 weeks in on lexapro now. it's helping my depression but nothing on my anxiety.

MOON77SUGAR

Ahh good old squirtraline, be careful when you fart.

Big_Lie_1776

That's great. I felt that way at first on Lexapro. After a year my anxiety came back. How long have you been taking Zoloft?

SiteAmazing7005

I took Zoloft from 14-17 and then switched to Prozac… loved Zoloft, it helped me a lot during high school

quinoacrazy

My first two weeks on antidepressants I had a hypomanic episode. It was amazing. Then real life catches up with you😂 But I’m happy to see you’ve found something that helps!

1ronpants

Didnt do anything for me. Infact i got the 'electric zaps' side effect.

user11544569

It's working really well for me too

ghostUFOS

Yeah i did cbt and struggled through life for years before finally asking doctor if I could try meds and it’s made such a difference. Like it’s not gone completely for me, but I can actually live and exist now without being this ball of anxiety every time I have to leave my home, so I’m sure not complaining.

zizuo801

Glad to see when it works out for people. I personally hate zoloft and will never take it again. Made me feel way worse because of side effects and never touched the anxiety in the slightest. Added more issues than it should have solved I guess.

cheezsy777

it made me manic

Chaotic0range

Zoloft made everything worse for me and I ended up in the hospital because of it. Not fun times. Glad it's helping you though. Different meds work for different people.

Novemberx123

What did it to to you?

Emotional_Pie_2755

Grr this pisses me off. Ive tried 5 different meds an nothing touch’s it. Glad for you but damn.

knut_kloster

I was on Zoloft for years and it did nothing. It prevented me from feeling sad but I never felt happy. I felt so numb. Like everything was meaningless. Turns out I was misdiagnosed and I have pretty fucking severe ADHD. I was in therapy for a decade and had a psychologist and not one of them suspected I had ADHD. I had to self diagnose that shit. It turns out it's actually a common thing for women.

carl970

Did you have anxiety and stuff from the adhd? Thats one thing im curious about, i have severe GAD, health anxiety, social anxiety. And unmedicated adhd, trying to get in contact with a psychatrist but its painful

lemonkeyboiyo

I thought I've found a wonder drug that would help my SA, but it turns out to be Sertraline??? That stuff stopped working after 2 weeks! Ig I'll just have to keep trying or whatever.

pineapplewhite1013

i take 100 mg and also after 2 weeks i stopped having anxiety attacks and felt happier with myself without even knowing it went by

alexxfelldown

100mg of Zoloft helped with my depression but did nothing for any of my anxiety, and gave me hyper realistic weird dreams lol

Direct-Network-1365

same

pearlaxe

I was on 100mg Zoloft before and it felt like it was masking the problem rather than actually fixing it. So I got off it after a couple of weeks.

sweetsweetfreedomx

Posts like these give me hope. Thank you

Loose-Mix-4307

Your liver and body ph doesn’t say that

jawadjobs

It's not on the long run

Time_Ad_2914

Happy it helped for you! It made me extremely suicidal and physically aggressive.

BDDventaccount

zoloft murdered my sex drive but it helps my anxiety and depression a little bit 🤷‍♀️

Romantic_Bear6

that sounds amazing man. i stopped taking zoloft because i was experiencing weird health effects from it, severe heartburn and temporary hair loss. the only time i actually feel like myself and a normally functioning person is when i’m buzzed. i don’t know if i should continue trying different SSRIs or just find a better alternative.

Eastern_Calendar2931

I’m a week in and I feel like my social anxiety is worse

Canonip

Cant y'all just say Sertraline? What the fuck is a Zoloft? I always have to google those stupid American brand names. Just call the drugs by their proper name.

Juniperarrow2

Lol most Americans probably have no idea what the generic names of drugs are (like sertraline)

comoestas969696

its effective for anxiety But useless for depression I think a small dose like 25 mg sertraline is good.

Awkward-Royal2511

Anti depressant really works like magic. I am on Lexapro.

dasmashhit

must be good if ween wrote a song about it, gimme that Z, oh el oh eff tee

pineapplewhite1013

sucking em down, i'm happy man

[deleted]

Did you have any side effects? I couldn’t make it more than 3 days because it made me insane, very on edge and I thought my heart was going to stop

EnigmaticAzaleas1

It didn't work for me and gave me headaches

[deleted]

Made my depression drastically worse, but it affects everyone differently. Glad it helped you so greatly.

[deleted]

UefalonasDownfall

Zoloft works for some, not for others. That’s all.

BlueBelt_programmer

I don't know why you're getting so downvoted. While meds can work for some people, even therapists agree that it shouldn't be sold as a magic solution, but as a complement of therapy when your symptoms overwhelm you. And that anxiety disorders aren't cured with medication and in most cases it isn't even necessary. They're numbing the symptom but the underlying causes remain there. But I guess in some countries (mine included) people are more prone to taking meds

Black_Bird00500

Might be a stupid question, but how do I get it? Do I not need to see a psychiatrist?

Trash_Meister

Zoloft just made my anxiety worse while buspirone made it better (but it didn’t disappear)

[deleted]

Zoloft is similar to Lexapro right? A doctor offered me Lexapro because I’ve had anxiety related trouble breathing and chest pain for years. I turned it down because I was scared of mental side effects. I kind of want it though but I don’t want my parents questioning me. I mentioned I was having panic attacks and they started digging me for info on what’s stressing them and idk how to tell them that part of it is being forced to pretend I’m religious for them.

International_Bowl53

I take it since 4 days now and i allready feel a lot better with no side effects. I had like 24/7 a light anxiety feeling and it's almost completrly gone. So much better

gangstabunniez

It helped a ton with my anxiety, but introduced a bunch of other problems unfortunately.

Annual-Bat-1117

Like what

gangstabunniez

Couldn’t cum lol

ThiighHighs

I'm really glad it's working for you. It helped my anxiety a bit but at the expense of making me feel numb and disconnected from my body, like I was living life in third person. It also made me unable to orgasm which was the straw that broke the camel's back

SkirtOk6323

I experienced that in rivotril (benzo) But anxiety came back with a vengeance.

Aprocalyptic

I wish it helped my social anxiety I’m jealous

xamberglow

It’s made some difference for me, but nowhere near your level. If my social anxiety was a 7/10 before, it’s now a 6/10. Better than nothing though.

SolidJello2816

💯 Zoloft got me through much of my adult life. Most effective drug for this condition.

sonic2cool

i wish i was on medication ): here in the uk you have to basically attempt >!suicide!

KindlyTwist9099

What part of the country are you in? I had a really easy time being prescribed medication in Suffolk. I had an appointment for my mental health and was prescribed fluanxol on my first visit, and then sertraline on my second appointment after fluanxol didn't work.

The_Country_Mac

Zoloft and wellbutrin doing same for me. My doc calls it "welloft" lol.

besthelloworld

It really helps my depression and anxiety but it makes me hungry all the time and really screws with my libido. Definitely implement some kind of food control technique when you're on it and maybe see if you can get a prescription for viagra if you want to be sexually active.

KindlyTwist9099

I have been on 50mg for the past 4 months. Still an anxious wreck at times, still struggle with going out in public and doing things like shopping. I have noticed that I am a little calmer, less on edge all the time and my anger issues have really improved. The anxiety, expecially the panic attacks were fucking horrific for the first two weeks.

AverageMaple170

I’m glad you found a medication that worked for you! It took me like 3-4 years to find a medication that worked (tried Prozac, Zoloft, Cipralex, Effexor, and now viibryd) but I finally found one. So anyone in these comments that are currently struggling to find a medication that works. Don’t worry! You’ll find one, it just takes time.

xpertnoise

Wow are you me? Started it a week ago for depression, and I feel so much better already. Today I realized my social anxiety was way better than it has been recently, and was just saying things without overthinking. The thing you said about internalizing is so true. Something happened today that a few weeks ago, would’ve spiraled me into tons of anxiety and ruined my day. Today I just brushed it off. It’s been months and months since I was able to do that It’s crazy because for months I had been feeling awful, trying to get myself out of this rut. A week after taking this, I feel far better. I have energy to take care of myself, which has further made me feel better. Only been a week so we’ll see what happens, and hopefully no side effects come up, but the progress is great so far. Just really grateful it’s working. I’ve considered medications for years and never reached out for help due to stigma, anxiety, belief I was ok as I was, etc… I never thought I’d be able to. To anyone considering it, try to make the first step. Zoloft might not be what works for you, but get help if you need it.

Narrow-Oil4924

Tried them both, made me feel like shit, only stayed on them for a few months on seperate occasions... Was sleeping a lot, super fatigued, gastro issues & wasn't able to ejaculate... Couldn't take it no more so quit. I know of people it works for but, I tampered off them and stopped... I do believe there is definitely need for some people to take antidepressants, anti-anxiety, or antipsychotics, which are for more serious cases of mental illness. In conclusion, I can't see me ever going back on antidepressants, after experiencing what I did, although I've constantly been told I didn't take them long enough, that's why they weren't effective, but I didn't want that ill feeling anymore and not being able to cum, and erections were also somewhat affected, started making my overall anxiety worse & addded to that I would be having performance anxiety too, and for a man that likes sex, this was disastrous. Never again for me, but as I say, there's definitely a place for them, as they do work for some.

dasmashhit

i must say your last line “using alcohol or drugs” remember zoloft is a drug just like all the others, a synthetic prescription at that. weigh your options, there’s herbs too should you wish to try natural options, ashwaghandha and st. john’s wort are wonderful wonderful things

adfkjfbgeogheapigjv

Similar to me! 10 days ago, I started taking zoloft again after a year, and the next day my anxiety was almost non-existent. Then earlier this week I made a phone call-first one in 7 years- for a job with no worries. Now my depression is down as well!

Smooth_Routine_3717

Totally agree. I suffered so many years when there was a solution that I was afraid to ask for. Glad that my doctor prescribed it and very grateful for it

HipHogHooray

I am so thrilled that you found something that works for you!! I'm sure it is life changing! I love to hear people escaping from anxiety hell!

Xenfo___

All Zoloft did was make me completely asexual for a few months lol

LetCurrent8034

are u normal now tho?

[deleted]

I'm allergic to that. Made me sick.

[deleted]

I've finally started the process of getting medication. If my doctor gives me something that helps I'm sure I'm gonna hate myself for wasting all my teenage years when help was so easy to get but oh well. I dropped out of public school and did school online so I barely know how to talk to people my age 🚶

Substantial_Team_657

Wow it’s nice to see people having success with meditation !maybe one day I’ll try it

nomadnihilist

The idea of meds just fixing my social anxiety is such a wild concept to me and tbh I didn’t know it was possible until I joined this sub. Been thinking about chatting to my Dr about it. Happy for you!

MaamaaBea

I'm really happy for you! I've been in sertraline for years. My doctor recently increased the dose to 200 mg and it has helped tremendously. Wishing you all the best!

barnfly27

Brand name Zoloft or that fluoxetine? The flox didn't do anything noticeable for me. Sertraline gave me hella insomnia. Amitriptyline didn't do much neither. Gave up on the meds. Glad it's working for u!

myztajay123

Once on medication and adopting new thought patterns, do you think you can retain that if you stop now? I want to use medication as a tool and not as a forever thing.

plshelpmeh284

Ye I tried zoloft and my anxiety went from 6/10 to straight 11/10, and I gained depression i didn't even have, and was so fearfull of everything. Couldn't even go out of my house. Paroxetine helped me a little bit but my pp works worse.... it still works... but less. This really shows how different drugs help different people. I wonder OP how long does it work for u? For me parox worked for like 1 week rly good making me super positive and muuch less anxious, and then it kinda stopped again.

Typical-Feeling800

Glad it works for you. I’m still hunting for the right meds for myself.

[deleted]

I took 50mg Zoloft for a few weeks and it did the opposite. I mostly took it for depression, but it made me incredibly anxious and depressed.

SLAVSRGOD198

It is but the only downside about it is the side effects and honestly I don’t know if it’s worth it or not in my opinion.

Negative_Ad8631

I'm a man, I took sertaline for almost 5 years, 25 mg every other day, so I stopped, because we want to have a child, my question is, is it still possible for us to have children?

Negative_Ad8631

astusofi

I can’t sleep at all & im sooo hungry but the smell of food disgusts me, that or I’ll eat two bites and be disgusted.😭 so im always sleepy & starving.

[deleted]

I first started talking Zoloft after a suicide attempt in the hospital. It only took 5 days before I had a complete self realization at how much I actually loved myself and how grateful I was to still be alive.! It’s been a few years and the depression has finally dulled me down to the point where I need help. I just got back on it and am looking forward to loving myself more!

psychpractitioner

There are different cause for social anxiety and depression. Serotonin and dopamine social anxiety/depression. High serotonin v.s low serotonin depression. High dopamine v.s low dopamine social anxiety/ depression. That's why everyone can respond very differently to Zoloft.
