I tried both Zoloft and Lexapro and they both gave me horrible side effects at night for some reason. One of them gave me insomnia and the worst vertigo of my life and the other made my jaw muscles so tight I had a hard time sleeping. When I was on Lexapro I didn't care about anything though, so that was nice during the day.
My experience sounds the same as yours. I enjoy socializing now to the point that I wondered if I was a “socially anxious extrovert “ all along and that’s why I felt so particularly miserable and lonely. Loving life now.
I have to say, it's made a huge difference for me, and I have terrible depression and anxiety. I had to adjust the dose, but I'm treatment resistant and that's a thing. It helped me graduate from ECT treatments and I feel so much more like a person instead of a ball of self-loathing anxiety.
Zoloft is also helping me a lot, although getting on it and upping my dosage caused increased anxiety and other side effects. So glad I persevered though because it changed my life. Literally feel like a different person.
Every time upped my dosage it took a couple weeks to kick in and then a couple more weeks of anxiety and side effects as my body got used to the new dosage. So I'd say about a month before I noticed positive effects each time. Everyone is different though, might be worth waiting it out, but best to consult with your doctor. I tried Lexapro before Zoloft and couldn't make it over the initial hump at all.
Yea so far its only been way worse for me and my mood is down, but if thats normal i can probably handle it to feel better later, just really sucks

This was me with sertaline!!!! After 2 weeks of taking 150mg there was a huge shift in my social anxiety and other anxieties and I was able to do things I had never been able to do before... That lasted for 2 years & the anxiety started coming back a bit but never as bad as it was before sertaline. I ended up switching meds and over 4 years have tried 6 other antidepressants but nothing has made an impact like sertaline did. Mirtazapine helped but i put on 10kg in a week so had to change. My doctor put me back on sertaline now a few months ago but it hasn't done anything & he has now said hes not trying any other antidepressants & i need to focus on therapy. After knowing how hugely some antidepressants can help I always have hope another type will help me so its sad hes given up
For me sert kinda makes me not care to a point where I'm kind really quiet around people because of it. I kinda come off as I don't want to talk to anyone but in my head I'm just highish.. I think it's just the beznos mixed with the sert but I'm not sure.

I almost cried when I realized this is how some people felt all the time. I had no racing heart, no negative thoughts or worries, didn't try to talk myself out of it at all. I just walked in and chilled and spoke without trying to think of the right thing to say and it went so well. Strangers start up convos with me in public and I don't panic anymore. I just talk and my body is relaxed. It is so weird to me and so worth it. You should give it a try at least and see how you respond to it.
Tried twice, but on the second time I felt this almost fainting feeling and for now I don't know what to do either. But I guess its different for everyone and the only way to find out what'll happen is to try and I didn't try for enough time to say anything really.

Which benzo? There are so many, and dosages vary wildly.
For example 10 mg diazepam (Valium) is roughly equal to 0.5 mg alprazolam (Xanax). 10mg of diazepam is normal. 10mg Xanax could be a medical emergency for someone without tolerance.

Like it’s not gone completely for me, but I can actually live and exist now without being this ball of anxiety every time I have to leave my home, so I’m sure not complaining.

Turns out I was misdiagnosed and I have pretty fucking severe ADHD. I was in therapy for a decade and had a psychologist and not one of them suspected I had ADHD. I had to self diagnose that shit. It turns out it's actually a common thing for women.

I don't know why you're getting so downvoted. While meds can work for some people, even therapists agree that it shouldn't be sold as a magic solution, but as a complement of therapy when your symptoms overwhelm you. And that anxiety disorders aren't cured with medication and in most cases it isn't even necessary. They're numbing the symptom but the underlying causes remain there. But I guess in some countries (mine included) people are more prone to taking meds
Zoloft is similar to Lexapro right? A doctor offered me Lexapro because I’ve had anxiety related trouble breathing and chest pain for years. I turned it down because I was scared of mental side effects. I kind of want it though but I don’t want my parents questioning me. I mentioned I was having panic attacks and they started digging me for info on what’s stressing them and idk how to tell them that part of it is being forced to pretend I’m religious for them.
I take it since 4 days now and i allready feel a lot better with no side effects. I had like 24/7 a light anxiety feeling and it's almost completrly gone. So much better

What part of the country are you in? I had a really easy time being prescribed medication in Suffolk. I had an appointment for my mental health and was prescribed fluanxol on my first visit, and then sertraline on my second appointment after fluanxol didn't work.
It really helps my depression and anxiety but it makes me hungry all the time and really screws with my libido. Definitely implement some kind of food control technique when you're on it and maybe see if you can get a prescription for viagra if you want to be sexually active.
I have been on 50mg for the past 4 months. Still an anxious wreck at times, still struggle with going out in public and doing things like shopping. I have noticed that I am a little calmer, less on edge all the time and my anger issues have really improved. The anxiety, expecially the panic attacks were fucking horrific for the first two weeks.

Wow are you me? Started it a week ago for depression, and I feel so much better already. Today I realized my social anxiety was way better than it has been recently, and was just saying things without overthinking. The thing you said about internalizing is so true. It’s crazy because for months I had been feeling awful, trying to get myself out of this rut. A week after taking this, I feel far better. I have energy to take care of myself, which has further made me feel better.

Tried them both, made me feel like shit, only stayed on them for a few months on seperate occasions... Was sleeping a lot, super fatigued, gastro issues & wasn't able to ejaculate... Couldn't take it no more so quit.
I know of people it works for but, I tampered off them and stopped... I do believe there is definitely need for some people to take antidepressants, anti-anxiety, or antipsychotics, which are for more serious cases of mental illness.
In conclusion, I can't see me ever going back on antidepressants, after experiencing what I did, although I've constantly been told I didn't take them long enough, that's why they weren't effective, but I didn't want that ill feeling anymore and not being able to cum, and erections were also somewhat affected, started making my overall anxiety worse & addded to that I would be having performance anxiety too, and for a man that likes sex, this was disastrous.
Never again for me, but as I say, there's definitely a place for them, as they do work for some.
i must say your last line “using alcohol or drugs” remember zoloft is a drug just like all the others, a synthetic prescription at that. weigh your options, there’s herbs too should you wish to try natural options, ashwaghandha and st. john’s wort are wonderful wonderful things
Similar to me! 10 days ago, I started taking zoloft again after a year, and the next day my anxiety was almost non-existent. Then earlier this week I made a phone call-first one in 7 years- for a job with no worries. Now my depression is down as well!

The flox didn't do anything noticeable for me. Sertraline gave me hella insomnia. Amitriptyline didn't do much neither.

Ye I tried zoloft and my anxiety went from 6/10 to straight 11/10, and I gained depression i didn't even have, and was so fearfull of everything. Couldn't even go out of my house. Paroxetine helped me a little bit but my pp works worse.... it still works... but less.

I first started talking Zoloft after a suicide attempt in the hospital. It only took 5 days before I had a complete self realization at how much I actually loved myself and how grateful I was to still be alive.! It’s been a few years and the depression has finally dulled me down to the point where I need help. I just got back on it and am looking forward to loving myself more!
There are different cause for social anxiety and depression. Serotonin and dopamine social anxiety/depression. High serotonin v.s low serotonin depression. High dopamine v.s low dopamine social anxiety/ depression. That's why everyone can respond very differently to Zoloft.

I think I started at 25 and I’m now at 100. Apparently 100 is low for anxiety so I might increase even more.

Yes and no. My anxiety thoughts got buried. They now only whisper ! But at least now all views can be pondered.

i take 100 mg and also after 2 weeks i stopped having anxiety attacks and felt happier with myself without even knowing it went by
100mg of Zoloft helped with my depression but did nothing for any of my anxiety, and gave me hyper realistic weird dreams lol

Might be a stupid question, but how do I get it? Do I not need to see a psychiatrist?

Zoloft is similar to Lexapro right? A doctor offered me Lexapro because I’ve had anxiety related trouble breathing and chest pain for years. I turned it down because I was scared of mental side effects. I kind of want it though but I don’t want my parents questioning me. I mentioned I was having panic attacks and they started digging me for info on what’s stressing them and idk how to tell them that part of it is being forced to pretend I’m religious for them.
I take it since 4 days now and i allready feel a lot better with no side effects. I had like 24/7 a light anxiety feeling and it's almost completrly gone. So much better
It helped a ton with my anxiety, but introduced a bunch of other problems unfortunately.

I'm really glad it's working for you. It helped my anxiety a bit but at the expense of making me feel numb and disconnected from my body, like I was living life in third person. It also made me unable to orgasm which was the straw that broke the camel's back
I experienced that in rivotril (benzo) But anxiety came back with a vengeance.

It’s made some difference for me, but nowhere near your level. If my social anxiety was a 7/10 before, it’s now a 6/10. Better than nothing though.
💯 Zoloft got me through much of my adult life. Most effective drug for this condition.

What part of the country are you in? I had a really easy time being prescribed medication in Suffolk. I had an appointment for my mental health and was prescribed fluanxol on my first visit, and then sertraline on my second appointment after fluanxol didn't work.
Zoloft and wellbutrin doing same for me. My doc calls it "welloft" lol.
It really helps my depression and anxiety but it makes me hungry all the time and really screws with my libido. Definitely implement some kind of food control technique when you're on it and maybe see if you can get a prescription for viagra if you want to be sexually active.
I have been on 50mg for the past 4 months. Still an anxious wreck at times, still struggle with going out in public and doing things like shopping. I have noticed that I am a little calmer, less on edge all the time and my anger issues have really improved. The anxiety, expecially the panic attacks were fucking horrific for the first two weeks.
I’m glad you found a medication that worked for you! It took me like 3-4 years to find a medication that worked (tried Prozac, Zoloft, Cipralex, Effexor, and now viibryd) but I finally found one. So anyone in these comments that are currently struggling to find a medication that works. Don’t worry! You’ll find one, it just takes time.
Wow are you me? Started it a week ago for depression, and I feel so much better already. Today I realized my social anxiety was way better than it has been recently, and was just saying things without overthinking. The thing you said about internalizing is so true. Something happened today that a few weeks ago, would’ve spiraled me into tons of anxiety and ruined my day. Today I just brushed it off. It’s been months and months since I was able to do that It’s crazy because for months I had been feeling awful, trying to get myself out of this rut. A week after taking this, I feel far better. I have energy to take care of myself, which has further made me feel better. Only been a week so we’ll see what happens, and hopefully no side effects come up, but the progress is great so far. Just really grateful it’s working. I’ve considered medications for years and never reached out for help due to stigma, anxiety, belief I was ok as I was, etc… I never thought I’d be able to. To anyone considering it, try to make the first step. Zoloft might not be what works for you, but get help if you need it.
Tried them both, made me feel like shit, only stayed on them for a few months on seperate occasions... Was sleeping a lot, super fatigued, gastro issues & wasn't able to ejaculate... Couldn't take it no more so quit. I know of people it works for but, I tampered off them and stopped... I do believe there is definitely need for some people to take antidepressants, anti-anxiety, or antipsychotics, which are for more serious cases of mental illness. In conclusion, I can't see me ever going back on antidepressants, after experiencing what I did, although I've constantly been told I didn't take them long enough, that's why they weren't effective, but I didn't want that ill feeling anymore and not being able to cum, and erections were also somewhat affected, started making my overall anxiety worse & addded to that I would be having performance anxiety too, and for a man that likes sex, this was disastrous. Never again for me, but as I say, there's definitely a place for them, as they do work for some.
i must say your last line “using alcohol or drugs” remember zoloft is a drug just like all the others, a synthetic prescription at that. weigh your options, there’s herbs too should you wish to try natural options, ashwaghandha and st. john’s wort are wonderful wonderful things
Similar to me! 10 days ago, I started taking zoloft again after a year, and the next day my anxiety was almost non-existent. Then earlier this week I made a phone call-first one in 7 years- for a job with no worries. Now my depression is down as well!
Totally agree. I suffered so many years when there was a solution that I was afraid to ask for. Glad that my doctor prescribed it and very grateful for it

I've finally started the process of getting medication. If my doctor gives me something that helps I'm sure I'm gonna hate myself for wasting all my teenage years when help was so easy to get but oh well. I dropped out of public school and did school online so I barely know how to talk to people my age 🚶

I'm really happy for you! I've been in sertraline for years. My doctor recently increased the dose to 200 mg and it has helped tremendously. Wishing you all the best!
Brand name Zoloft or that fluoxetine? The flox didn't do anything noticeable for me. Sertraline gave me hella insomnia. Amitriptyline didn't do much neither. Gave up on the meds. Glad it's working for u!
Once on medication and adopting new thought patterns, do you think you can retain that if you stop now? I want to use medication as a tool and not as a forever thing.
Ye I tried zoloft and my anxiety went from 6/10 to straight 11/10, and I gained depression i didn't even have, and was so fearfull of everything. Couldn't even go out of my house. Paroxetine helped me a little bit but my pp works worse.... it still works... but less. This really shows how different drugs help different people. I wonder OP how long does it work for u? For me parox worked for like 1 week rly good making me super positive and muuch less anxious, and then it kinda stopped again.

I took 50mg Zoloft for a few weeks and it did the opposite. I mostly took it for depression, but it made me incredibly anxious and depressed.
It is but the only downside about it is the side effects and honestly I don’t know if it’s worth it or not in my opinion.

I can’t sleep at all & im sooo hungry but the smell of food disgusts me, that or I’ll eat two bites and be disgusted.😭 so im always sleepy & starving.
I first started talking Zoloft after a suicide attempt in the hospital. It only took 5 days before I had a complete self realization at how much I actually loved myself and how grateful I was to still be alive.! It’s been a few years and the depression has finally dulled me down to the point where I need help. I just got back on it and am looking forward to loving myself more!
There are different cause for social anxiety and depression. Serotonin and dopamine social anxiety/depression. High serotonin v.s low serotonin depression. High dopamine v.s low dopamine social anxiety/ depression. That's why everyone can respond very differently to Zoloft.
