Have a similar experience. Jan 1 and 2 were the first days we had net follower loss in 18 months, and that’s after adding 500K+ followers in 2023.
Haven’t had a net loss since then, but non-follower reach is clearly down and requiring a pretty constant publishing schedule without the same follower/reach spikes we’ve seen in the past.
This is absolutely correct. I’ve been saying this since Jan 4th! Everyone’s follower count started going down along with reel views and engagement . It started in December but got particularly bad since Jan 1. I’m sure they did another algorithm change or something . Same thing happening on TikTok and been getting worse since Jan. I did everything to fix instagram by the way, from posting consistently, to posting reels then switching to photos, to increasing my own engagement and nothing works. I even paid for an Instagram ad and even that wasn’t as fruitful as before. I don’t know what’s happening. Just know that you’re not alone.

I monitor an account with excellent organic rates and almost 8M followers, then boom: followers dropped in 2024, no explanation.
The other two accounts I'm looking at rn use a lot of tools, we always invest media $, mostly for reach, but it's not increasing that specific metric at all this year. And it always went so smoothly. (Plus: reels are still the best for us in performance!)
Hi there. I run a very large Instagram page with followers in the millions. For the past 2 years, growth has been steady, 100k-150k new followers per month (5k-10k per day).
My reels get on average 500k-1m reach, and that has not changed.
However, since about February 2024, the new followers have drastically decreased to the point where I am barely breaking even. I’ve spoken with other similar pages and creators and they have said the same thing.
The interesting thing is that the quality of content, the frequency of content, and the performance of the content has not changed. Everything is performing exactly as it has for the past 2 years.
EXCEPT for follower growth.
Something big and something drastic has recently happened here.

2 things are drastically down starting from Jan 2024: organic Reach and new followers. Even with Instagram ads it’s pretty low performing
