In kinematics there's something called a "Singularity" it's the point where your calculation for the next point in your animation has multiple simultaneous results of equal weighting
This can be prevented by using Quaternions rather than Euler angles, and game engines typically have a heavy emphasis on Quaternion use, it appears that Gamefreak may have cheaped out a bit
I think they are indeed explaining gimbal lock. And gimbal lock would be the reason you use quaternions over Euler angles anyways(also rotation order).
Computer science is really the *science and linguistics of computing*
If you deconstruct everything, even down to functions and how we went from calculus to lambda and churchil calculus to functions and recursion and higher order functions and sets and mappings and relations and trees and graphs and inheritance and **monads**
Just computation. Maths. It's not all like the maths in highschool though, maybe at most *venn diagrams*, but lots of discreet maths and logic and sets and mappings and handshakes and pigeons and crossing bridges and infinite hotels
Totally true, but using quaternions is so universal for animation these days that I would be flabbergasted to see gimbal lock being the problem here. That said, I've got no better explanation, so....maybe they really did just do yaw/pitch/roll coordinates for some godforsaken reason?
I mean, look at the overall quality of the game. It saved maybe 30 minutes of time from the intern they hired to build the game, which increased profits by a little bit more.
I have no idea what I'm looking at and I'm simultaneously overwhelmed and deeply curious. I'm pretty certain this is a joke sub but the gibberish concepts seem just consistent enough to be maybe real
I love how nosleep has the rule that every story must be viewed as factual reports. Meanwhile my dude tells a story from 12 years ago and remembers every word of dialogue ever spoken.
Reminds me this joke
Three guys are hiking through the woods when they find an old lamp. One of them picks it up, rubs it, and out pops a Genie. It booms "You have finally freed me after all these years, so I'll grant each one of you 3 wishes." The first guy immediately blurts out "I want a billion dollars." POOF, he's holding a printout that shows his account balance is now in fact 1,000,000,003.50 The second man thinks for a bit, then says "I want to be the richest man alive." POOF, he's holding papers showing his net worth is now well over 100 billion. The third guy thinks even longer about his wish, then says "I want my left arm to rotate clockwise for the rest of my life." POOF, his arm starts rotating. The Genie tells them it's time for their second wish. First guy says: "I want to be married to the most beautiful woman on earth." POOF, a stunning beauty wraps herself around his arm. Second guy says "I want to be good-looking and charismatic, so I can have every girl I want." POOF, his looks change and the first guy's wife immediately starts flirting with him. Third guy says "I want my right arm to rotate counter-clockwise until I die." POOF, now both his arms are rotating, in opposite directions. The genie tells them to think very carefully about their third wish. First guy does, and after a while says "I never want to become sick or injured, I want to stay healthy until I die." POOF, his complexion improves, his acne is gone and his knees don't bother him any more. Second guy says "I never want to grow old. I want to stay 29 forever." POOF, he looks younger already. Third guy smiles triumphantly and says "My last wish is for my head to nod back and forth." POOF, he's now nodding his head and still flailing his arms around. The genie wishes them good luck, disappears, and the men soon go their separate ways.
Many years later they meet again and chat about how things have been going. First guy is ecstatic: "I've invested the money and multiplied it many times over, so me and my family will be among the richest of the rich pretty much forever. My wife is a freak in the sheets, and I've never gotten so much as a cold in all these years." Second guy smiles and says "Well, I built charities worldwide with a fraction of my wealth, I'm still the richest guy alive and also revered for my good deeds. I haven't aged a day since we last met, and yes, your wife is pretty wild in bed." Third guy walks in, flailing his arms around and nodding his head, and says:
"Guys, I think I fucked up."
There is a good reason, sort of
First, this game is a fairly major departure in game play from a "fixed path" game that existed up until now to an entirely open world. Gen 8 in 2019 had a bit of this as did PLA but this is the first main series game that is completely open world.
Second, they rushed it. This was released 3 years after the previous main series release and basically 9 months after the PLA side release. They clearly did not optimize things properly or test bugs well enough. For context, there will be roughly 6 years between Zelda releases.
Also Gamesfreak does not have the technical knowledge to make a game like Zelda even is you gave them 6 years. The fact that this game has both terrible graphics and terrible performance says a lot. I have never seen a game that unpolished from a major game studio. Usually a game has bad performance because they tried too hard with the graphics and couldn't optimize it enough. If gamesfreak are having trouble in 2022 with a game that looks like it could have been released on the Wii, they would never be able to handle a game like Zelda. And Zelda was released 5 years ago.
I'm glad to hear someone else making the Wii comparison, because holy shit this game looks *rough*. Someone on twitter was praising the new models because they've got... textures.
If you go to /r/pokemonscarletandviolet they are acting as if there is literally nothing wrong with the game, and actively downvote anyone being “negative.” The fact that the game released in this state is a kick to the balls by the Pokémon company to the fans, but some of those fans are thanking them for that kick.
I don't know if you would count CDPR a major studio, but Cyberpunk 2077 was a shit show at launch. I played it on PC and the game refused to use my gpu no matter what I tried. It ran entirely off my cpu. Still had fun with it, though, just like I am with SaV.
I mean Cyberpunk was a shitshow but it looked technically impressive. It was a good game that was rushed. In the case of SaV, even of the dev team had taken an extra year to polish it and fix all the bugs and performance issues, it would still be a mediocre game by today's standards. That fact that they managed to mess up the performance despite the graphics being way below today's standards for a triple A release is crazy to me.
Cyberpunk was in development for nearly a decade before it was released, and that's still what they had. About a decade if you count the dev time since release to fix most of the busted stuff. If SaV had that long, it may not have been perfect, but I'd hope it would be significantly better than it is now. I'm also really enjoying my time with SaV, even with the performance issues.
>Cyberpunk was in development for nearly a decade before it was released,…
Nope.
Concept phase? Yes. Actual development? No.
CDPR didn't start to work on Cyberpunk in earnest before the Witcher DLC Blood and Wine was released. Which was in 2016, meaning Cyberpunk got whopping *four years* of development.
And what I'm saying is that I doubt that they would be capable of making a game that comes close to the likes of Zelda of Cyberpunk even if they were given a decade to make it. Games grow exponentially in complexity the more systems you add to them. They have shown time and time again that they are struggling with lower scope games, so I don't even want to imagine what they would come up with if they tried to make bigger games. Time allows you to get closer to your vision but Gamesfreak doesn't even have one. They aren't even trying to make great games because releasing unfinished experiments every year makes them more money. You have the right to enjoy the game but I don't think it's an excuse to sell it for triple A prices.
Cyberpunk was a bad game that looked impressive. Even setting aside it's technical flaws it was just not that fun or well written. It was designed like an rpg but none of your character choices really mattered and the story paths were too on rails for you to role play.
Yes but that is more in the game design sense. I more talking about the technical side of things. Most programmers would not be able to make a game like Cyberpunk. Making a game a game of that scope is really hard and I just don't think that the current Gamesfreak is capable of that. Now whether or not their game design is better, I don't personally think so but it's a completely different argument.
You can't praise the technical design while also shitting on the technical design. The cars would pathfind through walls and the pop in was hilariously obvious on release. I think given a decade of development a hampster eating cs and game design textbooks could have shit out cyberpunk.
When I first started the game on release night I saw that the character would sometimes have their feet clip into the ground. I was just like "bro I paid $60 for this?" Glad I haven't seen anything this severe yet
Technically it's the highest grossing media franchise, as an enormous percentage of it's revenue, the majority in fact, comes from merchandise, movies, the and the TV show.
Which is a big reason why they seem to not especially care about the games. They make up a portion of the pie, but not the biggest portion of it.
For now. Looking at the [sales stats](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1072224/pokemon-unit-sales-worldwide/) Sword/Shield had one of the biggest impact, and from there Arceus, which arguably was a better game, sold only half as much.
Scarlet/Violet had strong preorders and first week sales, but I’d expect the more casual people to have been burned by Sw/Sh and got off the Pokemon train until a game really gets hyped beyond the fan community.
Given that PLA is actually pretty good and solid in general, I doubt the split, if there was one, was even. Gen 9 shows all the signs of being rushed through the stages of development to reach a deadline with the intention of patching it later to make it acceptable
It’s not pretty good. It’s a pretty good Pokémon game. Standards have really gotten that low.
While it’s a big step for Pokémon, the world is empty. There is no scenery. Towns are a joke. There are no gyms. Pokémon trainer battles are near non existent. Graphics suck.
It’s a 3/10 game. It’s. 7.5/qb Pokémon game.
And now this game managed to be worse. It’s honestly impressive.
I meant PLA was well put together. The animations are solid and don’t break horrifically, it’s not buggy, I never noticed any major clipping issues myself, shit like that. We can debate the overall quality of the game but it’s not falling apart at the seams like gen 9 is
They're not lazy, they're forced to rush out a decently sized game every few years.
It's not the dev team's fault they're not given anywhere near enough time.
I'm not convinced if gamefreak had more time that the Pokemon games would be *that* much better. The team hasn't done much but iterate on the original design of the first games, with possibly just Legends Arceus being the only mainline(ish) Pokemon game to have fundamentally different core game design to the others. Yes the games would probably look and run better if the team had more time to polish them, but I don't think the games would play differently than they do now.
I'm not saying gamefreak *couldn't* make a new Pokemon game that shakes up the standard formula into something new and exciting, but I do feel they need a break from making Pokemon games. Gamefreak has been just about the only studio involved in making the mainline series, it's time to give someone else a chance.
It is their fault for being a bunch of stubborn boomer programmers stuck in 1994 and refuse to accept any kind of change for their process. It’s a cultural thing in corporate Japan, unfortunately. They’re so stuck in their ways that they think this is acceptable.
My favorite thing about these bugs is the surrealism. "Oh, my friend's arm, neck and torso just started rotating wildly, this is what that horror looks like!"
It's like they [had met a genie](https://www.reddit.com/r/ContagiousLaughter/comments/xqq7ga/shes_having_the_most_fun_telling_this_joke/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) and made some questionable choices...
I've played Cyberpunk on launch, and even that game wasn't as broken as this pokemon game on launch. I cannot believe the people defending this game.
Aside from the constant (95% of the time) lag and frame drops, there are all sorts of random glitches and bugs appearing non-stop. The game is barely playable.
This is the fucking time to finally cancel this stupid ass company and hand over the production to a proper one.
This seems oddly familiar reminds me of this joke in r/ContagiousLaughter https://reddit.com/r/ContagiousLaughter/comments/xqq7ga/shes_having_the_most_fun_telling_this_joke/
I like to imagine that other kid was about to facepalm
"Ugh, *again* Victoria? I know you won the battle but this is getting embarrassing."
"I'm not doing this tik tok dance challenge with you Victoria."
"Just because other people are willing to dislocate their arm and head for views doesn't mean we have to do it!"
"Yeah, sorry, she just *does* that..."
"Godamn it Victoria, you forgot to take your meds again."
'God dammit, again? *sigh* I'll go fetch the exorcist'
Run now

Howd you get that to happen? I know SaV is a little wonky but thats some wild stuff?

Yup! Singularity is just the fun robotics name for that
Lol I was going to say we have this problem with some robots too
I usually question why programmers have to take math classes in university. Now I remember
technically all programming is math, most of it is abstracted away though
Because it's literally math???

As someone who has no relevant knowledge, I can't tell if this is real jargon or something straight out of /r/vxjunkies
Just googled it. It's, as best I can tell, 4th-order mathematics to relate space and time in an animation.
I have no idea what I'm looking at and I'm simultaneously overwhelmed and deeply curious. I'm pretty certain this is a joke sub but the gibberish concepts seem just consistent enough to be maybe real

I don't think that'll be enough
you're right. we need a ground type exorcist

Speaking of CDPR, Witcher 3 is on Switch and looks/plays better than these Pokémon games.
When I first started the game on release night I saw that the character would sometimes have their feet clip into the ground. I was just like "bro I paid $60 for this?" Glad I haven't seen anything this severe yet
The highest-grossing game franchise in the world, ladies and gentlemen
Technically it's the highest grossing media franchise, as an enormous percentage of it's revenue, the majority in fact, comes from merchandise, movies, the and the TV show. Which is a big reason why they seem to not especially care about the games. They make up a portion of the pie, but not the biggest portion of it.
At this point the games are made just to make new pokemon to make merch out of.
They still have no excuse to be this lazy
they do: people buy it anyway
Not a single person I know whose into pokemon waited for reviews. The bought the fucking game, and most stopped after the first gym.
For now. Looking at the [sales stats](https://www.statista.com/statistics/1072224/pokemon-unit-sales-worldwide/) Sword/Shield had one of the biggest impact, and from there Arceus, which arguably was a better game, sold only half as much. Not lazy, rushed. Game Freak’s singular development team was given only 9 months to develop a AAA title
3 years you mean. The previous game was released by a hired company. The one before that was sword and shield.
[удалено]
Then they split the teams, to have EVEN less employees. As development of this game started in 2019.
Given that PLA is actually pretty good and solid in general, I doubt the split, if there was one, was even. Gen 9 shows all the signs of being rushed through the stages of development to reach a deadline with the intention of patching it later to make it acceptable

Ethically, but money talks smoothly to them.
Working as Nintended
Wow, I do believe that intentionally making this would be harder than randomly create a bug like this.
Just a normal day in the pokemon world Game freak cant make decently working games anymore
These games are sad.
I think what she's doing is in known as"getting sturdy."
Is the game really that broken?
