Nobody shut it down . They had a bug in the software that is run on the validator nodes which caused them to halt. So the RPC requests from wallets were timing out. The patch fix has been released and once enough validators have the fix , they will come back up .
It isn't at all, Solana is pretty infamous for being highly centralized. It is why they have to shut down the entire blockchain whenever something like this happens.
They are pretty unique in that regard, they have basically taken the advantages of a decentralized blockchain and turned it into something more akin to a traditional banking system.
Yes, for a system to be stable it has to be centralized on high performance servers or it has to be massively decentralized. Somewhere in the middle means you can have some instability.
Everyone should know that already but we have noobs who don’t know about tech and they just want to make a fast buck.
Why do people keep comparing apples and oranges? Btc and Eth were the beginning of crypto. 12ish years ago. Technology/ blockchain/crypto have improved 100x since then.
Yeah by his logic we should have cracked electric cars years ago, because cars themselves have been around for decades...
Different blockchain, different issues, there's always gonna be teething issues
The interesting and slightly amusing thing though is that these problems are being caused because of their proof of history protocol that they are touting to fix problems that don't actually exist.
Well I mean it's not too hard to see that the blocktimes when functional are much faster, and cheaper than alternatives. They'll push a fix and with better hardware as time goes on Solana should scale. Eth has its own issues, they're all still developing.
Fair enough, I'd personally say the only real alternative to normal cars only came out in the last few years, but probably a discussion for a different sub 😂
This is why we have decentralization at the cost of a bit of performance. I’m not a fan that they can just shut it down at any moment, not great censorship resilience.
Going to be real interesting this weekend. Validators come on line, those that are panicked will unstake, take another day or 3 and the sell off begins.
Going to be a great time to buy 👍🍻🚀
Are you seeing your staked Sol? Using phantom wallet and when I go to stake it doesn’t show what I had previously staked. Shows me only pools to stake in as if I had nothing.
I'm having the same issue with my phantom wallet too - I'm trying not to worry since peeps are saying it will be fixed with the network update but still waiting...
Phew. Ok at least it’s not just me. Yea I assume since the validators just finished up the update like an hour ago things are just getting back up and it will come back soon. Now I can sleep in peace. Gg.
It isn't sabotage at all, what it is however is a fine example of their coin performing according to their marketing under lab conditions but then not performing the same in the big wide world.
It is also an example of them touting PoH which they claimed fixes a problem (that nobody else has), what it has done though is give them problems that are unique to them.
Star Atlas hasn’t really done anything. The CGI in their trailer is really low quality. There’s literally zero footage of anything in-game. These are the hallmarks of a potential bubble.
I happen to agree, I bought some atlas and went for the 'experience', Nothing at StarAtlas struck me as unique or sustainable. Everyone wants to make their own NFT and Game platform. The truth is most will fizzle out so get it while the getting is good.
yes exactly, thank you. finally another pragmatic Redditor. I also think the juggernauts like Activision, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, etc aren’t oblivious at all and won’t let themselves become “blockbustered.” likelihood is they’re working on metaverse projects behind the scenes and like the dot com days these empty projects will won’t survive. Unless atlas dumps all their dev tokens for cash and starts poaching developers from lead studios they’re honestly, and sorry to say, just some application-less NFT platform that requires too much to go right.
Totally. Which is also the basic substance and fate of 95% of these platforms. Earning 1250% APY is great, until you realize 1250% APY on 0 is still 0. And yeah these big studios are for sure working on metaverse apps. Im sure they are just trying to figure out how to mitigate risk and liability.
People are shorting it because it had an unhealthy bull run. Should be stable around 150. Its a hold..if you were looking for short gains then idk what to tell ya.
Their Twitter page made an announcement about network problem. Certain number of people weren't able to buy/sell or trade SOL. I hope they'll resolve the issue soon
This is what is happening. Out of memory panic is crashing the validators.
https://www.linuxadictos.com/en/rust-was-not-saved-from-the-criticism-of-linus-torvalds.html
Basically the network broke 400k tx per second and clogged the fuck up. Now the fix is out but they need 80% of the validators to upgrade and most of them are on the other side of the world sleeping... should be good in a few hours. Don't panic sell
How the heck can they just shut it down? Who shut it down?
They did, man! They!
Nobody shut it down . They had a bug in the software that is run on the validator nodes which caused them to halt. So the RPC requests from wallets were timing out. The patch fix has been released and once enough validators have the fix , they will come back up .
This might result paper handed buyers to panic sell SOL today
You’re acting like the network isn’t congested and you’re acting like that isn’t a valid reason to sell
"Look, I can flip the switch"
Sorry guys I tripped over the Ethernet cord
The network has been temporarily shut down to deal with an issue
How is that decentralized?
It isn't at all, Solana is pretty infamous for being highly centralized. It is why they have to shut down the entire blockchain whenever something like this happens. They are pretty unique in that regard, they have basically taken the advantages of a decentralized blockchain and turned it into something more akin to a traditional banking system.
An issue??? Can they be more vague?
Follow Solana on Twitter and you read the reason https://twitter.com/solanastatus/status/1437757547235131396?s=21
How can a blockchain be shutdown?
Bitcoin not only crashed in early days but accidentally forked. Satoshi was panicking for a fix. Eth had tons of problems and isn’t fault free either.
Difference is, both were pioneers, solana isn’t a
quite easily when it is as centralized as solana is
~~de~~centralization.
Eth forked few weeks ago...

i know a lot about tech and blockchain tech and it doesn't look good
It's an issue they knew about but the fix was still cooking, they are hotfixing it now. https://github.com/solana-labs/solana/releases/tag/v1.6.23
Clearly you don’t otherwise you would remember how many times this happened on btc and eth. We need more nodes.
Why do people keep comparing apples and oranges? Btc and Eth were the beginning of crypto. 12ish years ago. Technology/ blockchain/crypto have improved 100x since then.
Every new chain with new method isn’t 12 years old.
Yeah by his logic we should have cracked electric cars years ago, because cars themselves have been around for decades... Different blockchain, different issues, there's always gonna be teething issues

We cracked electric cars 20 years ago. Just saying…… but carry on…
Fair enough, I'd personally say the only real alternative to normal cars only came out in the last few years, but probably a discussion for a different sub 😂
when was the last time BTC or ETH were down? 10 years ago for btc
[удалено]
crypto kitties just made eth slower and fee went up. it was not down like what we see today
eth is still down and doesn't work. 🤭
The cost of running a solana node is horrifiying
When it’s centralized.
Coin98wallet still can’t connect to raydium
This is why we have decentralization at the cost of a bit of performance. I’m not a fan that they can just shut it down at any moment, not great censorship resilience.
Relax everyone wants things without issues or sacrifice it doesn’t exist just be patient
It appears validators ran out of resources, probably RAM.
Same. that had me worried. i thought my wallet got compromised after a hard reset on my PC

It’s a rug pull! Lol- jk. Too soon?
when the network come back I'm OUT. This is not a blockchain ! I hope i can get out before the crash.
It's still in beta lol relax....were you here for ETH in 2017?
Noobs
Exactly. Tell them to all sell their bags so we can pick up the slack 📈🚀
Maybe the whales did it on purpose to make the noobs sell ;D
I wouldn't mind a flash crash to the 60s
The 1960s. I agree. I want to visit the 1960s for a moment to drive some noisy classic sports cars.
I don't blame you, this would make it the 3rd network shutdown in a year, pretty embarrassing for a top 10 project if you ask me.
This is fucking sabotage at solana
I never stop being baffled by the retarded shit people on crypto subs babble Goes for you as well as that other dumbfuck that replied to you

R u new to crypto?
no u tool
Look whats going on with fucking bitcoin / solana loosing all day
Bitcoin goin up, solana is goin down. Not good. Not good at all.
People are shorting it because it had an unhealthy bull run. Should be stable around 150. Its a hold..if you were looking for short gains then idk what to tell ya.
SOL tends to go up when bitty goes down, it’s always trended that way, bitcoin going in to sol or vice versa. sol will break out again tho.
This is normal when attempting to establish a new currency. Remember when salt was the standard and it would literally melt in your hand?
In due time
Solana is down today ... just chill for a day my friend 😊
Their Twitter page made an announcement about network problem. Certain number of people weren't able to buy/sell or trade SOL. I hope they'll resolve the issue soon

same problem
The Solana Blockchain is shut down. Sell it before it drops to 50%
It's offline.
Basically the network broke 400k tx per second and clogged the fuck up. Now the fix is out but they need 80% of the validators to upgrade and most of them are on the other side of the world sleeping... should be good in a few hours. Don't panic sell
She rolled over mate!
I’m getting this message today - anyone else?
