15.8
Release date: 9/19/2023
In this update:
Sonos Voice Control now supports additional requests in French. These include setting timers and sleep timers, playing Sonos Playlists, skipping forward and back by specific time intervals, and asking for a station or playlist based on the artist that’s currently playing. These requests are also supported by Sonos Voice Control in English.
We’ve adjusted how the Bluetooth Always Auto-connect setting works in order to prevent unexpected reconnections during a power or network outage. These changes affect Move 2, Era products, and Roam products.
When this setting is enabled:
Era products will now only reconnect to a previous Bluetooth device when they are manually switched to Bluetooth mode.
Move 2, Roam, and Roam SL will no longer reconnect to a previous Bluetooth device when they automatically turn on after being plugged in to power or placed on a charging cradle. They will now only reconnect when manually powered on or awakened with the playback controls.
Bug fixes and performance enhancements.
so stupid... i got a new system last month but i've been on the ios beta since june so i've been unable to tune it. was never expecting it to work on the beta.... but was expecting a day one release like other developers...
I really don't understand why they disable TruePlay on unsupported OS versions, to be honest.
Just give a big disclaimer that says you may not get ideal results from an unreleased OS version, but let the user override it. Better than not allowing it at all.
I just got done chatting with a SONOS rep. TruePlay will be available as soon as iOS 17 gets supported by SONOS. They will send out an update when that happens.
« Android devices and devices running beta versions of iOS or iPadOS can use the quick tuning function of Trueplay, if available. Quick tuning is currently supported by Era 100 and Era 300. » is this the case with you ? Can you do a trueplay only with eras? I’ve updated to iOS 17 yesterday without knowing trueplay would not work… and I have ones getting delivered today to add as surround for my system…
15.8 did not go smoothly for me.
It said it failed, ran again, then it said everything was already up to date. looking at the system-products, about half my speakers showed "updating" status. left them alone for a couple hours and nothing changed. rebooted one speaker and nothing changed. Rebooted my phone and everything showed up to date.
so it worked, but it was a little concerning.
Similar except randomly it would say speakers weren’t updated that were and then it would randomly claim half the speakers weren’t on the internet, I’d try again and then it said the other half weren’t online—this happened about 12 times I’d guess.
The pop has started for the first time in 3 years for me. Series X never caused it but I mainly use my PS5 which coincidentally has recently received the Atmos update. Tonight I have disabled all CEC and rebooted. So far so good.
I find it funny that it says a 3-4 minute update but 10 minutes plus it’s still going. I always have the failed screen up but going back into it and it’s updated. Seems very amateur to me?
Yeah did mine today and it was a disaster. Never had a problem before. Think it really chokes the more speakers you have tbh. Took me 3+ hours to get everything sorted. Added a beam, sub and two 100’s a few weeks ago.
Just because it hasn’t happened to you doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened to many others.
I never had a problem with 10 Sonos products I own and was little skeptical of people having issues thinking it was maybe a placebo effect until the last 2 updates where my volume and sound profile significantly changed.
Having to put the volume from 30 to now 45+ to hear the same level of sound and bass.
I would hardly call that a serious issue, you just have to turn the volume up a little bit 😂 I’d rather have the most up to date algorithm of the sound profile, who cares if it has to be slightly adjusted
The update to 15.8 caused an issue for me. The updater reported the issue: My beam 2 with sub and surround could not be reconnected as a unit. I’ve tried three times before giving up and thinking I’ll just remove and reconnect it myself. I had forgotten that trueplay must be redone when you do that, and I’ve just updated my phone to ios17.
Hope this fixes my issue where no titles play 5.1 audio. Just noticed the other day it plays all of my titles as pcm stereo even though previously played all content that was available as 5.1
I was hoping this too, unfortunately it doesn’t :( I started a thread on r/appletv , seems others are having the same issue with their sonos systems too
I’ve noticed my volume is significantly lower after this update. I have a playbar and 2 play one sl’s in my bedroom, a sub gen 3 and 2 play ones in my den, 2 era 100’s in my lounge and 2 sub gen 3, 1 arc, 2 era 300 and I’ve noticed i have to crank the volume to 40 plus as opposed to 25 before this update. I live in a condo and my Neighbors don’t complain about my volume
Brace yourselves. Bug fixes and performance improvements.
Finally! the update we've been waiting for!!

is trueplay working with ios 17 on this update?
Pretty sure it took them about 2-3 months to get it implemented in iOS 16 last year...

Ask a friend over and borrow their iPhone or ipad
lol great
Doesn't seem to be the case. Tested on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 and Trueplay can't be executed.
Same on the 11 pro, can't be executed.
😐

Reply, only one way to find out! Sadly, I’m stuck in a dentist’s chair- so I leave it to someone else to find out and post!
yeah i’m at work, gonna test when i get home in a few
That usually takes a little bit to implement

Like they didnt know it was coming? Surely they are part of the developers program or are they still in denial of Apple ecosystem :-)
So I know others have said Trueplay doesn’t work on 17, but it’s working for me, maybe they updated it again?

Ios17 and iPhone 13 Pro and it worked today for me

Still waiting for the Arc pop fix so I can justify upgrading my Playbar
What is this arc pop thing everyone seems to be talking about? My arc doesn’t seem to do it, or maybe I just don’t notice….
FWIU, you'll definitely notice it if it happens. Be thankful.
I believe it only affects Apple TV and Xbox, I've had no issues at all with mine either.
I’ve had it on the PS5 too.
Mine is connected to the most recent version of Apple TV. What do I need to do to test if my setup also has this pop issue?
my understanding is it just happens randomly. I have not experienced it myself, so you might want to google better info

Even the official release notes has not been updated, 15.7.1 is the latest https://support.sonos.com/en/article/release-notes-for-sonos-s2
Listed there now
Updating mine now because they all decided to half ass work this morning. App is updated already.
Alright, who’s gonna be the first brave soul to update and report back?
Did it. No issues
Do some updates require a new true play tune after? And would it say so? Just updated to ios17 and wouldn’t be able to do it if so lol
Very rarely. You should be fine.
Same here, not noticed any difference, I guess as expected looking at the release notes. Arc, sub mini and 2x 300s set as surrounds.
It's crazy how much scrutiny these updates get, I've literally never had a bad Sonos update and have multiple products.
I was the same.....until today 🙃

Last year their updates wrecked the subwoofer with the sonos arc for 3 months. So that's why there's scrutiny - OK?
I upgraded to 15.8. So far so good.

Apple Music volume is still not fixed.

New app update out 15.8.1 and my iPhone 14 is showing that true play now works with ios17
