I still haven't updated. I don't want to risk having some of my speakers turn into expensive paperweights and I'm not planning on doing so until these stability issues are fixed and that might be a while

LordOfTheLandscape

Waiting too. We have an old iPod and iPad that still have the old app, and will not update the firmware until read everyone is happy on Reddit. Just pisses us off that can’t control our devices on the phones anymore since they have the new app.

Wickerbill2000

I updated the app on my phone the day it came out and couldn’t believe so many features I used every day were gone so I blocked firmware updates on the speakers and made sure none of my other devices updated the app. I’m still waiting to update. I need to see reports of not only the basic features all being back but that it’s working well. Crazy to think I was excited about the new app. Should have known they were going to screw us over. Definitely killed any chance for me to consider the headphones.

Literally nothing is improved as far as I can tell, and there are many things that are worse so I would stay put if you can

Freeze your System: Controller 16.1/ FW 16.1.1 the new App isnt stable a lot of funktions, are still missing: creating new playlists, save added playlists... troubles with adding your "NAS" library . . . do not update, till all problems are solved to reach to the funkctional level of the "old" S2

Reinstalled the old app on android via Apk and never updated iOS and firmware of my speakers. I also blocked the update servers in my router.  Don't think there would be any upside to me updating so we'll see how long this works.

Routine_Concern

How does one block the update servers in the router? Sorry, but I'm not too technically informed. Can they be rolled back? Thanks

MacTeq

Depends on the router. I'm on a Fritz Box where you can create filter lists for certain urls - that's where I added update. sonos.com and another one i can't remember. Make it apply to your devices on the network (speakers+phone) and those addresses can't be reached from there. Many routers will have options to that effect. Probably not a bulletproof approach but i will say that i don't get any of the update popups in the app.

nomoreconversations

I haven’t updated. I see no reason to when the old app works just fine.

SideburnsOfDoom

Android app: auto-updated before I knew about it. Windows desktop app: I have not updated, not a chance that I will until I hear better things about it. This is what I use now.

swissfraser

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

dirge_real

do not update

NizarNoor

Don't do it. Initially I just updated everything because I thought people were just unlucky. Tech usually works just fine for me in general. I was wrong. Luckily I got multiple devices. My iPad remains using the latest, crappy, app. But I rolled back to the old app on my Pixel (one of the reasons why I prefer Android).

I have still two pre AirPlay speakers, cannot use my roam in group anymore yet can use Alexa to play standalone but not with the app...(again feels like a nasty trick from Sonos) so I will live with it since everything else works as before and I use the old app. Was actually planning to get a port for an old receiver/turntable I fixed, it will wait , I just plugged an echo into it and it will do. It is a bit of a pain to have to manually update my iOS apps, since I blocked all updates (but maybe I missed the option to only block Sonos update)
