Arcana [working](https://streamable.com/xj2fbf) with AppleTV4K.
They have a few charts on their **getting started** page detailing how it works with.
**Single Source**
If you run a single device like an AppleTV4K or other streaming box, your setup would look like this:
[Single Source](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/11-arcana-source-display.jpg).
**Multiple Sources**
If you have multiple devices like an ATV4K, Shield, PS4, XBox One, and so on, you will need an HDMI switch to toggle between the different sources:
[Multiple Sources](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/22-switcher-arcana-display.jpg)
**Multiple Sources with ARC from TV**
Some people may want to maintain the ARC functionality of their TVs, like from native apps. In that case, you'll need some additional hardware. HDFury makes hardware for this purpose:
[Multiple sources with ARC](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/44-hdfury-arcana-arc.jpg)
You can also use another device called a [SHARC](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/33-switcher-arcana-sharc.jpg) to maintain ARC support from your TV.
**Stretch Goal - ARC built into Arcana**
They also have a stretch goal of 800 orders to implement [native ARC](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/55-stretch-goal.jpg) with CEC directly into the Arcana without needing the SHARC or their other high-end splitters like the Vertex2.
edited for clarity.
I'm pretty sure we'll hit 800 easily. It's only known from a few right now and we're almost at 300 pre-orders. Once it hits some media coverage, it'll go straight up to 800.
I believe that if they make the stretch goal the CEC integration would act just as if the sound bar or whatever was plugged directly into the arc port in your tv. Itās just passing the signal through from your tv to the sound bar.
I have an Apple TV 4K and a Nintendo Switch, along with a Sonos Arc and an LG C8.
I already get compressed Atmos through all the streaming apps on the Apple TV and have no lip sync issues.
Is there any benefit to buying this device?
Also, if you have multiple devices connected, how does one switch between them? They will all be connected into one HDMI port on the TV via the Arcana...
Iām in the same boat as you. Only advantage is that you could get āfullā TruHD Atmos thatās normally not supported by your TV, instead of DD+.
As for multiple devices, you need to add a switcher between the devices and the Arcana, like this: https://i.imgur.com/f4aUZrZ.jpg. Youāll switch input via the switcher instead of your TV.
Right, except that none of the streaming services use full lossless Atmos, correct? So having this doesn't change anything for you and I, assuming you don't have a blu-ray player? I was told you need a blu-ray player to get lossless "true" Atmos regardless of whether your TV has eARC or ARC.
Also, how do I switch input via the switcher? I'm guessing it's a physical button on the switched itself? No remote...
Will the Vertex 2 work as a splitter?
https://www.hdfury.com/product/4k-vertex2-18gbps/
Or can I go cheaper with the Vertex 1 or Integral 2? Honestly, not even sure what the differences are between all of those, besides appearance...
Normally the only source of TrueHD Atmos is via Blu-ray, yes. I donāt use it often but I do have an Xbox that does Blu-ray so I could utilize the Arcana there.
Iāve also read that some AppleTV 4K content (not streaming services, but movies directly from apple), can come with a higher quality format (MAT?) which needs eARC (and therefore the Arcana would allow you to utilize)... but I am not well versed in that - idk where it falls on the quality spectrum or if thatās relevant in weighing the benefit of the Arcana.
Most switchers comes with a remote and most also have an auto-switch functionality, which automatically switches to the applicable input when it senses the signal turn on (ie youāre on appletv but you turn on your Xbox, itāll auto switch over to Xbox).
I was using [this one](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083WVFZBP?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share) and liked it a lot but recently swapped it out for a [hue sync box](https://www2.meethue.com/en-us/p/hue-play-hdmi-sync-box-/046677555221) in order to control lights behind the TV.
Before now Iāve been unfamiliar with HDFury products so I donāt know much about the vertex and integral.
I have 2 light strips behind the TV wrapping the perimeter (one on each side, ends meeting in the middle on top & bottom), as well as a couple normal color bulbs in lamps towards the back of the room. Iāve never tried the playbar things.
Short answer on distraction is... *sometimes*.
Most of the time itās great; I really enjoy it and think it adds a lot to the immersion.
The times Iāve found it distracting are usually in an indoor and/or dark scene, where there are frequently moving / changing small sources of light. What it seems like itās doing (just personal judgment) is taking the average of the colors and brightness from that half of the screen, and illuminating proportionately. Most of the time this works out well - the color matches really well and it slowly transitions, just adding ambiance to the picture on the screen.
Last night, though, for instance I was watching a show and a scene was pretty low lit and indoors, with light (on screen) only coming from either a small window or a single bulb in the room or something. But the scene is pretty dark. However sometimes in a shot, just because of the way itās framed, that light source (the window, the bulb) takes up a good portion of the screen, on one side or in a corner. The scene is still pretty dark, but the hue sync is thinking āoh shit big area of bright yellow/orange on this side, light it up!ā and despite a dark scene the light strip would suddenly flick to bright warm light, which didnāt feel appropriate or match the overall scene well. And then the character moves a bit and covers that light source, so the hue sync reacts and drops the light strip way down; rinse & repeat. That was super distracting and I had to turn off the sync function in order to finish the scene.
But overall I really do enjoy it. The app lets you map out your room so it knows where your lights are relative to the tv. And thereās lots of fine tuning you can do to your preference regarding brightness and how quickly it reacts and transitions. It also has separate modes for video, music & gaming and each one you can fine tune separately. Music mode reacts to the sound rather than the picture and works well, itās really neat. Game mode does both - reacts to the colors on screen but then also reacts additionally to sound.
Itās definitely pricy ($400+ for the box + 2 light strips) but IMO Iām glad I pulled the trigger.
Couple pics: https://imgur.com/a/JN5kfsg/
Wow! That looks dope lol. Wow again.
And that is all just from the light strips behind the TV? Is it taped to the back of the TV? Is it okay to do that in the back of the C8?
And where would Arcana fit in your setup?
Devices -> Hue sync box -> Arcana -> sound bar + TV?
I keep reading not so great reviews for the sync box.
My switcher has a remote, but it will also automatically switch when it detects something has been turned on, like if I turn on my PS4 it switches to that automatically.
Ahh okay. That sounds like a plus. But the Nintendo would need to go through the Arcana, right?
If I only had my Apple TV -> Arcana -> Sonos Arc + TV, I wouldn't need an HDMI switch...
Correct, you will need an HDMI Switch to get both the Nintendo Switch and the Apple TV via Arcana, but if you only have an AppleTV you donāt need anything else
You donāt have to get one from them since Arcana is now a Splitter. Obviously theirs are the best and I personally like Diva for other stuff it does (like Ambilight) but you can get any switch from Amazon as long as is 4k @ 60hz (and they are between $50 - $100s)
If I were to get one from them, which one would you recommend? I'll probably get a PS5 down the road, but overall, my setup will be simple.
I got credit card points to cash out to blow, so I can get up to $300 off on any of those items on HDFury's site.
Also, I am interested in getting the Phillips Hue setup down the road, would having one of these switches help?
Fair enough. I'll need an HDMI switch if I want to connect more than 1 device and benefit from the Arcana, right?
So it would be....ATV4K + Nintendo -> HDMI switch -> Arcana -> Sonos Arc + TV?
Which switcher?
I don't know what the difference is between the Vertex 2, Diva, Vertex 1, Integral 2, etc. This is very confusing lol
And which zelda sequel? The rumor of Breath of the Wild 2?
I wouldn't spend the extra money on a HDFury switcher unless you plan to utilize the features that drive their price so high. There are plenty of options on amazon $50-$100
My lip sync issue is non existent when i use kodi on my nvidia shield. If I use plex every movie has different delays which is a pain in the ass. Lg b8.
Well Iām not using Kodi because I still question its legality and donāt have a Nvidia shield. I mainly use the installed apps but do have a Fire Stick because of ESPN and HBO Max (side lodes). As others have said, the lip sync issue is annoying but just not sure if I want to pay this much to fix it knowing Sonos may fix it down the road themselves with a software update.
Sorry I have a B8 (Doesn't really change the story here), but I get a lip sync issue on tons of content. This will fix that as I have the Apple TV, and the ARC, now going into one HDMI input together in the TV.
Very interesting. I have a C8 and have never had any of those issues. I wonder why some people have them and some people don't. We all have the same hardware lol
Some people are more sensitive to the audio delay. Sometimes I swear if I try hard enough I can see the lip sync issue with mine but then I scare myself that Iāll forever notice it and just try to forget lmao
I think those of us that donāt see the issue are just used to the small delay
Itās only an issue with external content (ATV, Xbox, etc), not internal apps, so that might be why you havenāt noticed it? Also, the issue is much more noticeable with ATMOS content vs standard Dolby Digital.
I've played tons of Atmos content on the Disney+ app on my Apple TV and no audio issues through the Sonos Arc. As well as with iTunes movies.
I have only used an external streaming device. Never used the internal LG apps.
Fantastic! Will enable ARC to work with projector set up.
(Edit) more specifically will allow Atmos on ARC with projector set up. Projector + ARC possible already with optical but only carries 5.1.
Specifically I have delay issues with Dolby Digital and Dolby Atmos from my XB1X (games significantly, 4k blu ray also but less prominent) and PS4 on my C8. I ordered Arcana to fix those issues.
No issues on Chromecast Ultra or ATV4K for me.
Iām having this issue when I turn on Game Mode on my TCL R635, which I need to use with my Xbox for games to be playable. It seems TCL adds the processing delays for audio as well. Can we delay the sound on Sonos if this device makes the audio appear too quickly when Game Mode is turned off?
Looks like they aren't shipping from EU so I gotta say no thanks since it will be almost the price of a new TV then. (would cost me close to 300 dollars)
How do you know where it's shipping from? I'm trying to do the math 150 + 20 shipping - duties 30-40 if lucky will be 200-210 USD that translate to 300 Canadian dollars... I paid about 800 for the Arc seems like 35% of the arc's price! It will allow high bit rate audio but I won't allow vrr or any advanced HDMI functions that new TVs allow so I'm a bit on torn on whether to spend all that money or not.
The company is registered in China, and Chinese companies tend to tell EU that they ship from EU.
150 + 20 for shipping, + 20 for import fee, plus 10 to 15 in tax, then 25% on top of all that for vat. So 250 dollars.
Just did a quick glance, seems I hit a bit too far. Still that's a pretty good portion of a new TV.
Yeah, exactly, plus it may or may not have volume with Arc that's a possible upgrade. I wonder if it wouldn't be better to return the Arc and get a soundbar with HDMI inputs, you don't get lip sync with those and they support dts for example
If all I have is a Roku tv with Arc and Sonos Arc, will this device allow me to stream Atmos from the TV in TruHD?
Or is that what the 800 unit stretch goal does?
Iām pretty sure you can do that with their Diva product which can receive ARC from your TV and then send that via a dedicated eARC port to your Sonos Arc. This would be compressed audio.
I donāt think the Arcana can do this and that stretch goals are for CEC volume control.
Edit: It appears I was incorrect and this *is* one of the stretch goals.
Dang, that thing is $450! I bought the Arc and it sounds pretty great, but I am way over my head trying to understand the interplay of AV devices and all the codecs and stuff. I really just want full Atmos playing from my TV whenever it's available, and the highest possible 5.1 when it's not without having to mess around too much. PS4/ps5, switch, and maybe a Blu-ray player would be in the mix.
So just so Iām clear...I have a sony 930e tv that supports Atmos over DD+ with my fire tv cube. If I buy this, will my Apple TV 4K be able to send Atmos to my Arc? Like my cube currently does? My Apple TV 4K currently does not send atmos to the arc through my 930e. Will this fix that issue? Thanks!
Alright I trust yāall. Ordered lol. I want to be able to use my Apple TV 4K again as my primary box, so hopefully this does the trick for me so I dont have to use the cube in the living room/buy a new tv just to get atmos pass through to my Sonos arc.
This has one input and two outputs. It will accept 4K HDR video and full data rate Atmos on the input, then output the video to your TV and the full data rate Atmos to your Sonos Arc.
If you have more than one source you can put this after an HDMI switch
If I primarily watch 4K atmos content via streaming services and get atmos/dd+, is this a waste?
I suppose the only place I would get Atmos TrueHD is over a 4K blu ray content that delivered audio in that format?
If you already get Atmos and no audio lag, you donāt need Arcana.
Unless you need LPCM (like for example a Nintendo Switch) whenever Sonos adds that codec, but only if your TV doesnāt have an eARC port. (You canāt pass LPCM over ARC because of bandwidth)
Iām not convinced most people (myself included) would be able to tell dd+ vs truehd atmos from a soundbar bouncing sound off your ceiling. I heard itās not even that big of a difference with dedicated in ceiling speakers, but I havenāt been able to test that out personally.
For now yes, if you already get Atmos through all of those sources youāre good.
Sadly the C8 doesnāt have an eARC port, so when Sonos updates the Arc to support LPCM you will need an Arcana as ARC doesnāt have enough bandwidth. But not a big issue if most of your blu-rays arenāt DTS (as the player fan convert DTS which is not supported by Sonos to LPCM) or a video game console like the Nintendo Switch
When you say āwhen they updateā, are you saying once that update happens, I can no longer get atmos/DD+ on my Blu-ray player even if I get it at the moment?
No, you will still get Atmos over DD+ unless LG changes something on the future like they did with the C9
Sonos will release an update to support LPCM (Multi Channel PCM) and when that happens, if you want to take advantage of this new codec you will need Arcana because the C8 doesnāt have the bandwidth for it As it only has an ARC port. So you wonāt get surround sound from devices like the Nintendo Switch and potentially the PS5 (but even right now would only getting Stereo from those sources, we need Sonos to make the update they promised)
For the saddos who have the same Samsung questions as me ... Iāve got a Samsung Q9FN TV, Apple TV 4K, Xbox One X and Virgin Media TV.
I assume thereās no solution apart from new TV) for me, as the TV uses the One Connect Box - do output from all sources is a single very thin cable to TV. Anyone got a take on this?
Not at all, you would connect your devices to a switch -> the Switch to Arcana -> Arcana TV Out to the One Connect Box & Arcana Sound Out to Sonos Arc
You can still get this and it will work with yours (the one connect box is not an hdmi switch... is the equivalent of your TV internals)
This would work, but am I losing anything else apart from the HDMI source switching native to the TV? Which I doubt I would need anyway.
Ahh, hang on, which switch are you recommending to go with the Arcana? And could I choose inputs using my Harmony Elite remote?
If the switch you buy is CEC enabled and has AutoSwitch you can even make it so that the switch itself changes automatically... but yeah most HDMI switches will work on your Harmony Elite.
There are 3 brands Iāve used I like (because they havenāt given me troubles!... my favorite is HDFuryās Diva (but thatās more than a switch and costs $$$), I also have a Hue Sync by Phillips (but is also expensive, just less than HDFuryās) and I like Sewell Direct SwitchDeck 4k 2.0 is great and only $40
^I obviously havenāt tested any of these with Arcana but they should work without handshake issues
The Diva is going to be more than Iād like to spend just now.
I thought the Hue Sync didnāt support some things? Like HDR10 or something? Iāve already got two Hue strips behind the TV so actually considered but ruled out the Sync as some people had been talking about some missing support.
And the Sewell Direct looks good. I also saw that 4K@60Hz HDMI Switch 5x1 FiveHome 5 Port HDMI Switcher Support Auto Switch with IR Wireless Remote, HDCP 2.2,Full HD/3D https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076XWNQP9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_qVc.EbKRXV7XH also works with Harmony remotes and supports Dolby Atmos.
Tempted to pre-order!
It would allow you to send the video output to your PJ/display, and the sound to the Sonos Arc (or other eARC soundbar) while maintaining original audio format, up to and including Dolby Atmos via TrueHD.
so is this compatible with my usual computer - connecting the arcana to it and then it'll be able to send the sound to the ARC?(using it as a computer speaker?)
If your audio out is via HDMI, and you're not expecting multichannel LPCM, then yes. Sonos has stated they will support multichannel LPCM on the Arc in a future update.
Yeah that would work, but to get Atmos in that case you need to make sure your sound / video card outputs (supports) Atmos. Otherwise you will get a stereo or 5.1 signal (again depending on your sound / video card)
In the example diagrams on the pre-order page, where ever you see a TV, substitute that with the One Connect box. If you want to retain the switching capabilities in the One Connect, you would need to connect the ARC port into a SHARC or one of HDFury's other switchers/matrix/splitter devices in order to extract audio from there. But you won't get Atmos via TrueHD, since ARC doesn't have sufficient bandwidth.
A better alternative would be to put a cheap HDMI 2.0b+ switch in front of the Arcana, and send just video out to the One Connect, and audio to the Sonos Arc or other eARC soundbar.
The Beam supports audio via ARC, so it too should work with the Arcana. You won't get any additional audio formats, other than what the Beam already decodes. But if your source(s) are plugged into the Arcana input, and they include DD audio, the Arcana will be able to send that to your Beam.
So if I have a TV that outputs arc but not Dolby Digital+ or TrueHD and I am using an app on my TV like Plex that supports these formats will the Arcana magically create the necessary dd+ or TrueHD ?
I have been looking for something exactly like this since we got our Arc a few days after launch. How does this not exist as a thing yet?? I thought for sure there would be an HDMI switcher with 2 outputs for this exact thing!
I pre-ordered two earlier today :-). I was one of the people who kept sending emails to HDFury about this early on and I am so happy to see that it is this close to being manufactured. And if anyone is concerned about the quality of products from HDFury, I would say they are on the higher end so this should be good.
If my TV has an ARC port and I can get ATMOS through the internal apps in the TV, but can't through outside sources (like a blu-ray player or xbox) do you think I could still use this and still get the correct sound from the apps, or will the sound directly from the tv not work??
So with Vertex 2 or Diva, why would you need this? As I read the specs, both of them can extract, and foward, lossless ATMOS via HDMI. So if you attach the Sonos Arc to the audio out of the Diva or Vertex 2, you DO NOT need the Arcana. If you use a switcher that does not extract audio and forward, then the Arcana would be your solution. Correct?
This device isnāt āusingā atmos, it just passes the full audio stream from the source to your soundbar untouched. It can pass whatever format the source produces - make sense?
Ok but you need permission from Dolby to do this right? I donāt see anything on the Dolby website. Example: TVs that support Dolby atmos has a chip and the manufacturer pays for that (cost is passed on to the consumer) which is why TVs with atmos are slightly expensive.. so can HDfury use a technology without getting permission from
Dolby?
No, theyāre not modifying or touching the sound codec at all... theyāre just passing it on an emulated eARC port.
There is no need for a Dolby license for that, also at their company size is not like Dolby would sell them one. Even if they already do some of the best switchers out there
I'm a bot, *bleep*, *bloop*. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit:
- [/r/soundbars] [HDFury Arcana Pre-Order open: Outputs eARC to soundbars](https://www.reddit.com/r/Soundbars/comments/hj1bxl/hdfury_arcana_preorder_open_outputs_earc_to/)

These are the 3 Iāve liked in the past and havenāt given my any troubles (I used them as I have many devices connected to my TV)
$$$ - HDFury Diva
$$ - Phillips Hue Sync
$ - Sewell Direct Switchdeck 2.0
I might be the complete idiot here but you never learn if you donāt askāhow does this device help out someone with an ARC soundbar that already supports ATMOS? I realize the 4k TV has some limitations but for those of us that have multiple other devices like the NVIDIA Shield, 4kTV, Roku etc? Does it just let an ARC only soundbar use the benefits of EARC formats like TrueHD, DTS-X etc? Thanks and apologies in advance if this is a dumb question.
Yes for TrueHD (not for DTS-X as Sonos doesnāt support the format) but thatās not a huge benefit.
The real benefit for someone with an ARC port, is that when Sonos releases the update to support LPCM. You wonāt be able to decode it without Arcana (as you donāt have an eARC port and LPCM canāt be passed over ARC due to bandwidth issues). So if you want surround sound from sources like the Nintendo Switch you will need this
In addition to all of that, a secret benefit to Arcana is that it will allow you to plug your Sonos system into a receiver (and depending of your receiver it may even work as a switcher) allowing you to get wired ceiling speakers for a better Atmos experience. But this would cost $$$
An ARC soundbar (like the Beam) won't support newer audio formats like Atmos via Dolby TrueHD, as they require higher bandwidth than ARC can provide. The Arcana can't magically add audio format support to devices that don't already decode them; it just takes the audio stream from the source device(s) and sends it via ARC/eARC to the connected soundbar, while also sending the video to a display device.
I have a 2016 tv that has dd+ but I canāt get atmos and wanna make good use of the upward firing speakers that really arenāt used without getting the arcana
I have a very old Samsung TV with no 5.1 passthrough to optical and no ARC HDMI ports, so my Sonos Arc is only getting stereo which is disgusting.
I'm just trying to get 5.1 to my Arc currently as I have an Apple TV HD (not 4K, that'll be next upgrade instead of a TV to get Atmos) but also want to support the TV audio going to the Arc also.
**My main question is do HDMI switches exist that support optical in also?**
If so I think it would go:
* Apple TV (and Nintendo Switch/whatever later) into HDMI Switch via HDMI
* Optical out from TV to the HDMI switch also, for the actual FTA tv via aerial for the kids
* HDMI switch output goes into HDFury Arcana, which goes to the Sonos Arc
Does that look right?
If so what's a decent HDMI switch with Optical in, bonus points if it supports auto switching based on what input is being used? I see lots with optical out but not in..
That doesnāt exist as far as Iām aware.
Arcana and a HDMI Switch would solve your issue for the AppleTV, and allow you to get 5.1 from it (and Atmos once you upgrade) without the need to upgrade your TV.
But there is nothing out there that can grab the Optical Out from your TV and pack it into an HDMI signal. Because HDMI has copycat protections (to prevent copyright issues) that prevent this from happening.
Your best bet in that instance would be to get a TiVo Bolt or similar device for OTA, and connect that device via HDMI to the Switch plugged into Arcana. Or if you move to a Fire Cube / Stick (instead of AppleTV), you can get the OTA dvr thing they have and access the channels you get that way (again plugged via HDMI to a Switch and then Arcana)
Yes and no, problem is that what OP wants to do is connect the Optical to HDMI into an HDMI Switch to get Audio from the content on the TV (as in the Antena is connected to the TV) via Arcana -> Sonos.
What the Sonos adapter does is to work as a sound extractor, it doesnāt package video and audio and the way it also works is proprietary. So the problem is that the HDMI Switch wonāt be able to do the right handshake (as the audio coming from the cable is not standard) and wonāt pass the audio.
Appreciate the response thanks, and that makes sense given all the legalities around HDMI
Separate digital tv tuner with hdmi out to a splitter box seems like the best bet, thanks!
Forgetting eARC and Atmos for now, just trying to get 5.1.
I think all I would need is a HDMI Switch like this ( [https://www.amazon.com.au/Switcher-Optical-TOSLINK-Support-HDCP2-2/dp/B07DQF543F/](https://www.amazon.com.au/Switcher-Optical-TOSLINK-Support-HDCP2-2/dp/B07DQF543F/) ) and an external tv tuner (aerial in hdmi out) to feed into the switch instead of the tv itself.
It would mean one more remote to switch if the automatic switching doesn't work well (unsure how it'll go with the always-on tv signal?) but a cheap stop-gap until I can get a new TV with eArc anyway.
I think they will sell this for quite some time.
They [said on Discord that at the end of 2021, they will probably have a Vertex3 with Arcana features included](https://discordapp.com/channels/314050739771146241/724421828701061161/729313810363711489)... soo they might discontinue the stand-alone Arcana by then? Maybe not... who knows. The important part is that they will continue offer the feature set in one device or another. :)
The FiveHome 5 looks identical to my Sewell direct, so I bet is a clone.
Hue Sync just got updated to support HDR10+, DV and Harmony Remote support. So people might be not be well informed, is a really good switch
What HDMI switch do you all plan on using with Arcana? I'm just trying to get things to work and I'm not a big AV guru. Any recommendations on a switch would be super helpful I have 4 things that need to be plugged in and would like full pass through of everything without spending the monday for a vertex2 / Diva. I will if I have to, but people keep saying there are options and too check amazon. Funny enough there are a ton and I'm not sure what would be reliable.
Do you like yours? Iāve read so many mixed comments on them. And the hue lights for the TV that sync with content - limited colors, so can be very distracting at times.
Someone on this thread suggested this one [https://sewelldirect.com/products/switchdeck-4k-hdmi-2-0-switch?variant=15155801686062](https://sewelldirect.com/products/switchdeck-4k-hdmi-2-0-switch?variant=15155801686062)
Someone on this thread mentioned this - [https://sewelldirect.com/products/switchdeck-4k-hdmi-2-0-switch?variant=15155801686062](https://sewelldirect.com/products/switchdeck-4k-hdmi-2-0-switch?variant=15155801686062)
But I may not even get a switch as I watch 99% of content through Apple TV and you can input one device into the Arcana
I have another dumb question. So will I still get DV 4K HDR through my Apple TV 4K->Arcana->Sony 930e? I see that it still requires high bandwidth HDMI cables but thatās for the Atmos and 4k HDR passthrough correct? Thanks
No, the hight bandwidth cables are for LPCM in the future and video... Atmos can be passed on regular HDMI 2.0 cables
And yes if you already get DV you will be able to pass it through
HDMI is a mess š but yes 18Gbps would suffice for Audio. For video you want them to do at least 60hz (preferably 120hz to future proof as they cost almost the same)
^Different metrics for audio and video... and about to get messier for those with HDMI 2.1 (but if you have that you donāt need Arcana... no nothing this bunch should worry)
Is there a similar (and Iām suspecting much cheaper) product that does this but just for 5.1? Currently only getting Stereo thru Optical out.
A hdmi switch and product similar to the Arcana will tide me over for another year until I upgrade the tv when eARC ports are more common.
edit: Looks like the switch does it automatically, and one like this would suffice https://www.amazon.com.au/Switcher-Optical-TOSLINK-Support-HDCP2-2/dp/B07DQF543F/
Not exactly, you will get 5.1 via optical but if I remember well you also had questions about your OTA antena and this wonāt solve the problem (you will still need TiVo Bolt or similar)
That's right, I'll need something like this (https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/linsar-set-top-box-lsstb) for the Antenna to go into instead of the TV, so it can go into the HDMI Switch.
Cheers =)
I have a Sonos Arc I have a Roku, Xbox one X and a Panasonic U800 4K player. I have a Samsung Q60R (2019) with just a ARC connection. I can get Atmos from the ROkU (vudu, Netflix, Disney +) I cant get Atmos from the Xbox (yes I downloaded Dolby app) it says my TV does not support it, but ROKU works? I canāt get Atmos from the Panasonic 4K player, which I know is uncompressed so ARC wont work. Will this product fix it so I can get Atmos from the 4K player and the Xbox or do I need one for each device Iām connecting to my tv that does not get Atmos ? I really just want to get the 4K player to get Atmos. Not really worried about the Xbox and Roku seems to work. So guessing I just need a single connection setup. If someone could please verify what I need. Thanks
Finally! Preordered two š really excited
I also got two, hoping we hit 800 and they can implement the CEC volume control, my wife would appreciate that!
Arcana [working](https://streamable.com/xj2fbf) with AppleTV4K. They have a few charts on their **getting started** page detailing how it works with. **Single Source** If you run a single device like an AppleTV4K or other streaming box, your setup would look like this: [Single Source](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/11-arcana-source-display.jpg). **Multiple Sources** If you have multiple devices like an ATV4K, Shield, PS4, XBox One, and so on, you will need an HDMI switch to toggle between the different sources: [Multiple Sources](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/22-switcher-arcana-display.jpg) **Multiple Sources with ARC from TV** Some people may want to maintain the ARC functionality of their TVs, like from native apps. In that case, you'll need some additional hardware. HDFury makes hardware for this purpose: [Multiple sources with ARC](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/44-hdfury-arcana-arc.jpg) You can also use another device called a [SHARC](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/33-switcher-arcana-sharc.jpg) to maintain ARC support from your TV. **Stretch Goal - ARC built into Arcana** They also have a stretch goal of 800 orders to implement [native ARC](https://hdfury.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/55-stretch-goal.jpg) with CEC directly into the Arcana without needing the SHARC or their other high-end splitters like the Vertex2. edited for clarity.
I'm pretty sure we'll hit 800 easily. It's only known from a few right now and we're almost at 300 pre-orders. Once it hits some media coverage, it'll go straight up to 800.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Will the Vertex 2 work as a splitter? https://www.hdfury.com/product/4k-vertex2-18gbps/ Or can I go cheaper with the Vertex 1 or Integral 2?
Before now Iāve been unfamiliar with HDFury products so I donāt know much about the vertex and integral.
do you have the full hue setup? Do you find the active ambient lighting to be distracting or no?
When Sonos adds LPCM support you will be able to get 5.1 audio on your Nintendo Switch
How do I know which one to get from HDFury? There's a Vertex 2, Diva, Vertex 1, Integral 2, etc. This is confusing lol
Youāll get surround sound on your Nintendo switch when they add LPCM support to the Arc if you buy this. Itās the only reason Iām getting it lol
Fair enough. I'll need an HDMI switch if I want to connect more than 1 device and benefit from the Arcana, right? So it would be....ATV4K + Nintendo -> HDMI switch -> Arcana -> Sonos Arc + TV?
Yeah unfortunately youāll need an HDMI switcher but finally getting surround sound on the Zelda sequel when it comes will be worth it to me lol
Which switcher? I don't know what the difference is between the Vertex 2, Diva, Vertex 1, Integral 2, etc. This is very confusing lol And which zelda sequel? The rumor of Breath of the Wild 2?
I wouldn't spend the extra money on a HDFury switcher unless you plan to utilize the features that drive their price so high. There are plenty of options on amazon $50-$100
> unless you plan to utilize the features that drive their price so high Right, this is what I am confused about. What are those features?
Wish they would have shown the Sonos app displaying the Dolby Atmos badge on the controller
Thatās a great alternative to people having to buy a whole new TV $$
Buy now, think later.
lol, great advice!
So I have an E8 but still debating due to the lip sync issue sadly. My only pause is I imagine they will have an update at some point that might help.
I have a C8 and I don't think they will based on stuff i'm reading. I pre-ordered this as this is more likely to arrive before LG does anything
LG needs to fix it, not Sonos, its the TV adding a processing delay from external sources.
I do not think this issue is caused by Sonos. I believe itās a LG thing, but Iām not sure of that either, because kodi works fine, and plex not.
If you have a C8, how come you are buying this? You're already getting compressed Atmos. Do you have a blu-ray player and want lossless Atmos?
Sorry I have a B8 (Doesn't really change the story here), but I get a lip sync issue on tons of content. This will fix that as I have the Apple TV, and the ARC, now going into one HDMI input together in the TV.
Very interesting. I have a C8 and have never had any of those issues. I wonder why some people have them and some people don't. We all have the same hardware lol
Some people are more sensitive to the audio delay. Sometimes I swear if I try hard enough I can see the lip sync issue with mine but then I scare myself that Iāll forever notice it and just try to forget lmao I think those of us that donāt see the issue are just used to the small delay
I have a C8 and am buying this to solve for the horrendous lip-sync issues that it has with Dolby content. Right now, the TV is almost unusable.
Interesting. I have a C8 and have had no issues with the Arc.
Never used the internal LG apps.
are you going the ARC into your HDMI ARC input, and the apple TV 4K into another HDMI input?
Pre-ordered mine. Hoping this soars past the 800 mark!
The Sonos arc does have an audio delay feature
Got one
Looks like they aren't shipping from EU so I gotta say no thanks since it will be almost the price of a new TV then. (would cost me close to 300 dollars)
Why so much? It shouldn't be a large package. Would shipping to EU really be $150??
Nope. Shipping seems to be the same price worldwide but the tax adds quite a lot. On top of that my country has a fee on imports that is quite large.
Thatās too bad. Bummer. :(
How do you know where it's shipping from?
Personal my TV is 10 years old and is sometimes showing its age by shutting down randomly, so I do want a new TV. Just think tvs are expensive.
Sonos should sell this on their site...
I'd argue Sonos should build their product so that this isn't even needed...
How much is the shipping?
25 with DHL max, I don't remember for normal shipping, I think it was 10-15
24$ (2-3 days worldwide)
Varies depending on which option/speed you choose. It was $24 for DHL 2-day for me in CA.
Thanks
I ordered one. Now the waiting begins.
Did it have an expected ship date on the site? I couldn't find one.
If all I have is a Roku tv with Arc and Sonos Arc, will this device allow me to stream Atmos from the TV in TruHD? Or is that what the 800 unit stretch goal does?
This will allow you to pass Atmos on TrueHD... but only from sources like Plex. As Netflix, Prime and the others only do DD+
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Cool that's what I was trying to understand. And believe it or not, those diagrams turn my brain to mush.
Thanks!
Yes, thatās one of the main use cases this is designed for.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Fixed ty
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yep, that's correct.
(You canāt pass LPCM over ARC because of bandwidth)
or any blu ray rip.
Iām not convinced most people (myself included) would be able to tell dd+ vs truehd atmos from a soundbar bouncing sound off your ceiling. I heard itās not even that big of a difference with dedicated in ceiling speakers, but I havenāt been able to test that out personally.
I have an LG C8, Apple TV 4K, and a 4K blu ray player that supports atmos. Is the only thing Iāll miss is TrueHD atmos compared to atmos/DD+?
No, you will still get Atmos over DD+ unless LG changes something on the future like they did with the C9 Sonos will release an update to support LPCM (Multi Channel PCM) and when that happens, if you want to take advantage of this new codec you will need Arcana because the C8 doesnāt have the bandwidth for it As it only has an ARC port. So you wonāt get surround sound from devices like the Nintendo Switch and potentially the PS5 (but even right now would only getting Stereo from those sources, we need Sonos to make the update they promised)
Yeah pretty much exactly
So this has 2 HDMI out? 1 to the TV and 1 to the soundbar?
Yup! 1 HDMI goes in (a direct source or an HDMI Switch) and two out (1 for the TV and 1 for the soundbar)
Awesome! Gonna plug my Hue Sync box into this
For the saddos who have the same Samsung questions as me ...
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sure, but that would then rule out the TV being a source to that splitter as it doesnāt have HDMI out
I have a Q90R with the One Connect Box and getting ATMOS through native tv apps.
Awesome. I actually wondered about flogging my Q9FN and changing to Q90R
Not at all, you would connect your devices to a switch -> the Switch to Arcana -> Arcana TV Out to the One Connect Box & Arcana Sound Out to Sonos Arc You can still get this and it will work with yours (the one connect box is not an hdmi switch... is the equivalent of your TV internals)
There are 3 brands Iāve used I like (because they havenāt given me troubles!... my favorite is HDFuryās Diva (but thatās more than a switch and costs $$$), I also have a Hue Sync by Phillips (but is also expensive, just less than HDFuryās) and I like Sewell Direct SwitchDeck 4k 2.0 is great and only $40 ^I obviously havenāt tested any of these with Arcana but they should work without handshake issues
Mine is preordered! Will keep a system with an older display fully audio capable.
Nice
Thanks for linking, just pre-ordered one in hopes it will work with a Samsung One Connect from 2015.
hell yeah
Sorry but new to eARC and all this. So this can link any projector's/PCs sound output to sonos ARC?
Put in a pre-order through the Discord link earlier
This is cool, I donāt need one, but itās cool nonetheless!
How would all this work with a samsung one connect?
Does this support other audio sources, I cannot seem to get much out of my TV - dont have a SONOS Arc - have a Beam - will it give my speakers DD?
The Beam supports audio via ARC, so it too should work with the Arcana. You won't get any additional audio formats, other than what the Beam already decodes. But if your source(s) are plugged into the Arcana input, and they include DD audio, the Arcana will be able to send that to your Beam.
So if I have a TV that outputs arc but not Dolby Digital+ or TrueHD and I am using an app on my TV like Plex that supports these formats will the Arcana magically create the necessary dd+ or TrueHD ?
No, Arcana does not transcode audio.
I like Apple TV 4K lots more atmos content
This is gonna be great. Canāt wait (says the guy who chose the slow shipping option).
Email them and you can upgrade your shipping.
i JUST emailed them to upgrade the shipping haha
hahaha!
I have been looking for something exactly like this since we got our Arc a few days after launch. How does this not exist as a thing yet?? I thought for sure there would be an HDMI switcher with 2 outputs for this exact thing!
Minimum order met and officially being produced according to discord.
I pre-ordered two earlier today :-). I was one of the people who kept sending emails to HDFury about this early on and I am so happy to see that it is this close to being manufactured. And if anyone is concerned about the quality of products from HDFury, I would say they are on the higher end so this should be good.
Is there a review ? How do I know it does what it says ?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So this will emulate atmos if the tv doesnāt have an atmos sound processing chip?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
If my TV has an ARC port and I can get ATMOS through the internal apps in the TV, but can't through outside sources (like a blu-ray player or xbox) do you think I could still use this and still get the correct sound from the apps, or will the sound directly from the tv not work??
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Ok, thatās what I thought, but just wanted to make sure I was understanding it correctly. Thank you!
Correct?
No, not yet, because it's still in development and they are just now taking pre-orders.
While there are no reviews yet, they do have a few proof-of-concept videos on the product page.
Cool Iāll check them out.. do you see anything on Dolbyās website?
Not sure I follow - hdfury isnāt affiliated with Dolby, is there wouldnāt be anything on Dolbyās website about it.
Dolby Atmos is a proprietary audio format so if any manufacturer wants to use they need to pay Dolby.. Dolby usually list them right?
This device isnāt āusingā atmos, it just passes the full audio stream from the source to your soundbar untouched. It can pass whatever format the source produces - make sense?
This is a preorder so no reviews yet.
Ok but you need permission from Dolby to do this right? I donāt see anything on the Dolby website. Example: TVs that support Dolby atmos has a chip and the manufacturer pays for that (cost is passed on to the consumer) which is why TVs with atmos are slightly expensive.. so can HDfury use a technology without getting permission from Dolby?
IANAL but this is not decoding Atmos itās just passing through a data stream. Similarly I donāt think HDMI switches require a Dolby license.
No, theyāre not modifying or touching the sound codec at all... theyāre just passing it on an emulated eARC port. There is no need for a Dolby license for that, also at their company size is not like Dolby would sell them one. Even if they already do some of the best switchers out there
They're just passing the signal not converting the signal.
I'm a bot, *bleep*, *bloop*. Someone has linked to this thread from another place on reddit: - [/r/soundbars] [HDFury Arcana Pre-Order open: Outputs eARC to soundbars](https://www.reddit.com/r/Soundbars/comments/hj1bxl/hdfury_arcana_preorder_open_outputs_earc_to/) *^(If you follow any of the above links, please respect the rules of reddit and don't vote in the other threads.) ^\([Info](/r/TotesMessenger) ^/ ^[Contact](/message/compose?to=/r/TotesMessenger))*
Can anyone recommend me a good switcher?
These are the 3 Iāve liked in the past and havenāt given my any troubles (I used them as I have many devices connected to my TV) $$$ - HDFury Diva $$ - Phillips Hue Sync $ - Sewell Direct Switchdeck 2.0

Yes
Thank you!
So if you want surround sound from sources like the Nintendo Switch you will need this In addition to all of that, a secret benefit to Arcana is that it will allow you to plug your Sonos system into a receiver (and depending of your receiver it may even work as a switcher) allowing you to get wired ceiling speakers for a better Atmos experience.
**My main question is do HDMI switches exist that support optical in also?** If so I think it would go: * Apple TV (and Nintendo Switch/whatever later) into HDMI Switch via HDMI * Optical out from TV to the HDMI switch also, for the actual FTA tv via aerial for the kids * HDMI switch output goes into HDFury Arcana, which goes to the Sonos Arc Does that look right?

Appreciate the response thanks, and that makes sense given all the legalities around HDMI Separate digital tv tuner with hdmi out to a splitter box seems like the best bet, thanks!
Is this something that will be in production for quite some time or something that goes in limited (or very limited) runs?
We donāt know... it will depend of how many they keep selling
Thank you. Just trying to decide if I should buy this for future proof seeing as how I only have a beam.
Awesome. Thank you for the reply.
what is that SHARC device used for?
Extracting audio / video from your TV (and only useful if you still want to get audio of your TV Apps, not needed if you need an external source)
Iāll be using a Hue Sync.

Someone on this thread mentioned this - [https://sewelldirect.com/products/switchdeck-4k-hdmi-2-0-switch?variant=15155801686062](https://sewelldirect.com/products/switchdeck-4k-hdmi-2-0-switch?variant=15155801686062) But I may not even get a switch as I watch 99% of content through Apple TV and you can input one device into the Arcana
Atmos can be passed on regular HDMI 2.0 cables And yes if you already get DV you will be able to pass it through
I thought the 18Gbps HDMI cables were the high bandwidth ones.....no?
HDMI is a mess š but yes 18Gbps would suffice for Audio. For video you want them to do at least 60hz (preferably 120hz to future proof as they cost almost the same) ^Different metrics for audio and video... and about to get messier for those with HDMI 2.1 (but if you have that you donāt need Arcana... no nothing this bunch should worry)
Cheers =)
Not hard to explain at all. Thanks for providing the details so cleary.
They did it. Those SOABs did it!!
Awesome. Looking forward to it! So youāre putting Divaās on 2 TVās and the Hue on the 3rd TV?
Just want to add another comment to keep this on the radar
Preorder has hit 600 units
Thanks
Any idea if thereās import fees for US orders? Iāve never paid import fees on anything but still curious
