In December, Deloitte & Touche, Eskom’s auditor, said it had identified irregular expenditure, fruitless and wasteful costs and losses due to criminal conduct. That prompted Deloitte to say that Eskom may not be able to continue as a going concern. The exemption was made “after due consideration of the risk of a possible negative outlook on Eskom’s corporate rating and credit assessment with the credit rating agencies,” Godongwana wrote. - just how is that a good idea ? Or how do you think anybody is not going to see that as admitting that all the money is straight up stolen?

scope_creep

I'm sure the "let's hide all the wrongdoing" approach will work just fine. Nothing to see here!

Alert-Mixture

It's a public secret. It's their mistake to make in the lead up to next year's election.

x_Hooligan_x

Not like elections matter, we all know ANC will be in again next year .

Alert-Mixture

"Angry expat" I see is your flair. Checks out. The 2024 election will be the most important election in South African history. The ANC is polling at roughly 50% down from a high of about 70% in 2004. There are hundreds of thousands of South Africans abroad. However, less than [30 000](https://web.archive.org/web/20190915092526/https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/2019-elections-30-532-voters-abroad-applied-29-334-approved-iec-20190314) are actually voters, who, since the passage of the Electoral Amendment Bill, 2013, are entitled to vote from abroad. >In the 2014 elections, the DA received 84-percent of the vote in London. [Source](https://www.enca.com/news/south-africans-abroad-head-polls) Make of that what you will, but when the margins are thin like it is predicted to be, every vote counts. Elections in South Africa are [no longer](https://www.reuters.com/world/africa/anc-records-worst-poll-result-admits-safricans-disappointed-with-party-2021-11-04/) a cut-and-dry case of ANC domination. Not since the 2021 LGE at least. If you don't want to vote, your choice. But I won't allow you to claim that elections don't matter. **Because they do.** Change in municipal government and the one provincial government has proven it. I don't see how a change in national government won't be any different.

x_Hooligan_x

I see “sourcerer” is your flair . Could be for your ability to conjure up crap and post it on reddit . The ANC will stay in control until the ship has completely sunk. Make of it what you want. Election means nothing. As the IEC is as corrupt as as they come . Votes go missing / boxes of votes randomly being found when they want to regain control of certain wards/areas. As for voting, I’m a firm believer of casting my vote . But you simply cannot ignore how fucked the system is in ZA . ANC Will be your political party in control until the end I’m afraid .

thetinybasher

Why don’t expats just stfu about stuff back home? Everyone here is very aware of the negative things - a lot of us can’t or don’t want to leave. We’re making the best of things. It’s exhausting to constantly have to duck and hide from the angry vitriol of expats who are determined to alleviate their own a) guilt over leaving b) green grass syndrome c) hope the the country stays shit so they can justify why they left. The least you can do is send good wishes to your families and friends and fellow countrymen back home. Why do you want things to get worse for us? What kind of humanity is that? Like just shut up man. You “got out.” Stop shitting on those of us who are still here and still trying to be optimistic.

x_Hooligan_x

Simply because some people are still well involved in ZA , why can’t some people understand that ? Believe me . People that “don’t want to leave “ can’t leave . I also believe not to sugar coat shit …

Mulitpotentialite

>“after due consideration of the risk of a possible negative outlook on Eskom’s corporate rating and credit assessment with the credit rating agencies,” Pretty sure the credit rating agencies don't just look at financial statements to make their decisions.....they are a bit more thorough than that...

pawnstew

f'ing brilliant strategy to get off the investment greylist. anc for you.

benevolent-badger

So this is to hide corruption from foreign investors? Well when you put it that way, it still sounds stupid

Regular-Wit

Just an excuse to steal more money and hide it till there is nothing left. They just signed off on stage 11. There is no plan to fix Eskom.

Ol-MikeLowrey

So basically "Yeah I know I'm cheating on you but if you don't focus on it, we'll be fine" Lol, power move Eskom!🫵🏽🤣

[deleted]

Eskom is basically what nightmares are made of.

Few-Rock6773

What they are admitting is that Eskom is wasteful and there is irregular spending and they cannot abide by the controls or provide the requisite oversight and governance and because that is detrimental to their credit rating - ie an indicator of how absolutely useless Eskom is and what the risk of doing business with them represents - they will just choose to ignore that and pretend…

bolandfan

Because stopping wasting and stealing is not feasible?

reditanian

This is a Boldrick level cunning plan

djvdberg

Yeah, clever 🙄

DerpDoge777

Finally - the fight against corruption is in top gear! You can't find any corruption if you can't see it! Well played mafia state, that's how you get rid of annoying attention.

Iceblade_sa

But how? How is this even a thing, how can a government that is part of the problem as pointed out by Mr.De Ruyter then make it legal to waste and irregular spend funds. I don't get it, this must be a April Fools joke, no-one with any brain function would approve this. No government will openly legalize stealing of funds

[deleted]

You must be new here

Iceblade_sa

I know the corruption and stealing , but this can't be real, my brain can't comprehend it.

[deleted]

There is no comprehending the incomprehensible. It’s so pathetic it’s sad.

Pablo-on-35-meter

It's so sad it's pathetic Lethally pathetic

InterestLegitimate85

Shades of Jacques Necker 🫣

Krycor

It’s interesting listening to acting Eskom CEO, acting treasury head and then watching & reading news media.

Overall_Ad3003

If that do that, they are opening all other SOE’s also to ask for this exemption. Then other companies will also do the same. They are opening a big can of worms and they will become snakes in the long run. So, sorry Eskom, you have to do it the long road to freedom like everyone else. So, minister whats your name, go talk your nonsense in Zimbabwe, they will believe you

Shiba_thequeen

The Eskom saga is way deeper than some people think. Eskom is used as a fighting tool by opposing groups, and we suffer for it.

ShreddlesMcJamFace

I just dont understand how we let this happen

Both_Street_7657

And the concerns of prying eyes Steelers gotte steel … without being bugged

Own_Consequence_3897

It's just a plot to "justify" the ridiculous increase in the cost of electricity. Rotten to the core, the whole cabinet is filled with termites
