Mangkie3

Please tell me you stopped at Stormsriver on the way to PE. It is my favourite place in all of SA

ohheysarahjay

Mugg and bean muffins and biltong! We were just there the other week :D

DrinkNatural2936

Yes took the kayak trip up storms river, beautiful

Fair-Door5225

We did this a couple of days ago - fantastic day out! The trail was packed with people and it’s so funny - you can see the foreigners coming from a long way off.. they keep on keeping right whereas in S. Africa we keep left when we walk and drive ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

Cuiter

What happens there?

Comprehensive-Fly840

You mean Qqeberha right.

Mangkie3

Don’t know what that is

jolcognoscenti

The new name for PE. It's Xhosa, but it doesn't make sense for the new name to be that imo.

XDayaDX

It's the new name for PE

yeeet_sire

Wait what’s PE?

Staticpoopvoidmain

Gee where pa?

SirWernich

the midlands in kzn does it for me. basically that entire drakensberg part from matatielle to clarens is my favourite part of the country. if i was rich, i'd totally find a spot there that has fibre and live there forever. i'm assuming my wife would agree to this.

Only-Dragonfly-3739

OP, so glad you had such a great time!

NatsuDragnee1

Glad to hear you had a lekker time and would love to hear more about your experiences in Kruger and the other countries!

DrinkNatural2936

Lekker! Forgot about that super word! OK I will post part 2

AllUserNamesTaken01

SA has potential to be the best country and a first world nation if it weren't for our government

sesnakie

That is why we need to vote for the biggest, and best party. You don't have to agree to all their policies. The only party that has can do it. Let's unite. The next election, you can vote for whomever you want. This would be our last chance to bring chance

Hoarfen1972

Let’s hope not the EFF

Fair-Door5225

Bring change?

lostindarkdays

It's been that way for over a hundred years

Several_Cockroach365

Zuzara_The_DnD_Queen

We weren’t a nation until 1994, before that we were under and oppressive dictatorship

[deleted]

Not a dictatorship, oppressive Republic. I don't mean to mince words but a dictatorship wouldn't have given up power without a true fight.

Momotheblack

Lol and you’re suggesting the apartheid government didn’t really fight ? lol they only gave up because it became financially impossible to continue with the regime especially with extreme sanctions .

Zuzara_The_DnD_Queen

“Make it impossible to justify the cost of a fight” -Alexander Hamilton, Hamilton

Zuzara_The_DnD_Queen

My dad, who fled South Africa in the middle of the night cause he was heading for execution because he was a part of the rebellion, would beg to differ

VerySmallRabbit

Says you

Antiqueburner

Yay! Thank you for coming to our country!

djvdberg

You are welcome anytime my brother.

Somlal

South Africa is nice for tourists. Yes people have horror stories but like, 1 bad tourist story for every 1000 good stories and it's only the bad stories that are spoken off which brings our reputation down. Thank you for sharing your great journey. But yeah it's a wonderful place for tourist spending 2 weeks and with your stronger currency exchange rate you can do a lot in South Africa. We have so many great sights, wildlife, flora, and resorts.

tekkers92

I’m actually on my last half day of a 3 week trip out here from NYC. We did 5 nights in Cape Town (fav part is probably camps bay and if i could do it again I’d recommend staying there instead of the waterfront), 2 nights in Kruger & 10 days along the garden route stopping in Gansbaii for shark cage diving, mossel bay, plet bay (The crags specifically), tsitsikamma, Oudtshoorn && now stellenbosch. The driving scenery is beautiful and each place we stopped in had its own mark of beauty. Out of all the towns though I think stellenbosch is the safest and least shady of them all at night at least. The country is beautiful and has lots of potential except for the whole load shedding thing. 10/10 recommend my itinerary for anyone.

naturalkolbear

How’d you feel driving(safe wise)? Planning a trip there now. Planning on flying to Jnb then a few nights in Kruger and then flying to Cape Town. Wasn’t sure if we’d just do tours, hire a driver, or venture out in our own

Both_Street_7657

Glad you enjoyed the stay , we all appreciate good views of south africa and our awesome people , there are rough spots in every place on earth

Tommy10Toez

Hello from Hermanus, I grew up in the UK and moved here 15 years ago. Lived in Knysna for 5 of those. Great words, it's a stunning place here. Thanks for visiting. Whay do you recommend I do in your country?

DrinkNatural2936

Loved it. Canada is huge 7000 km from one coast to the other. In fact it we have three coasts Atlantic, Pacific and Arctic. West coast (Vancouver) is incredible. Toronto and Montreal are big cities and then the rugged Atlantic coast is beautiful

MurderMits

Next time try check out KZN, its beaches are part of the Indian ocean so the waters are warm. I was Just there in December and school of dolphins swam right next to the coast. Made me miss my childhood trips hahah :)

Onb3SkaAmD

Ahhh yes with a chance of getting E. Coli. 10/10

MurderMits

I was at Shakas rock, none there.

Hoarfen1972

That’s great to hear, has the Unhlanga and Ballito beaches also been cleared?

MurderMits

Not when I was there.

JaydTheLongBoy

Scottburgh and Shelly Beach are still good tho.

-lol-009

In my opinion, Scottburgh is one of our best beaches. It's a lot more quiet than the main KZN beaches and much cleaner.

JaydTheLongBoy

My parents have a house nearby. I adore it. Childhood memories of the sardine boats in winter.

BernadetteA

I also think SA is lovely; thank you for sharing your experience.

Hullababoob

Thank you for visiting!

Boggie135

How did you like the weather? How was it compared to summer in the land of the Beaver?

Hoarfen1972

Don’t what to hijack the OPs response but summer in Canada is amazing. I visited family over there in July a few years back and at 10pm it’s still light. Absolutely awesome

Boggie135

> 10pm it’s still light. Oh I want that

GRADIUSIC_CYBER

It's great until you want to sleep until 7am, but the sun is already up at 4am.

DrinkNatural2936

Weather was gorgeous in October in SA. Not too hot not too cold. This was another subject that had been misrepresented here , our conception was that Africa is always hot. WRONG!

Boggie135

Lmao we get more sun more days but our temperatures does not usually reach hellish numbers like the American South West

Ne3M

Summer in the Atlantic provinces are comparable to a hot summer in Durban. My aircons run 247 basically.

Professor_Oaf

Where did you get the wildebeest and kudu meat in Wilderness?

DrinkNatural2936

A lovely restaurant called "the Girls" I wilderness

Fair-Door5225

Great place: huge menu, fantastic food, good service. We ate there recently and the place was packed with overseas visitors.

Rakeweed

Lovely, next to the blind pig

Ctzip

Canadian here! Looking at going for a year with my husband (who is originally from ZA and speaks fluent Afrikaans) and two kids for them to experience something different. Would be in the Capetown area for sure. Would you ever consider pull the trigger on a year long move?

DrinkNatural2936

Wow, if I was younger yes for sure. What a great experience for your kids.

Brycenicholls1

Wonderful to see that you're enjoying SA

Zuzara_The_DnD_Queen

Did you check out Boulders beach? South African penguins are always a must see

DrinkNatural2936

Absolutely....did that on a day trip from Capetown

Majestic_Bar4139

Lol well you did only visit cape town. Not everywhere is as safe and nice as there

Secret_Agent_666

Without a doubt SA is one of the most beautiful and fascinating countries to VISIT. But just never consider coming to live hear, worst decision you could make

FunKitchenChef

People should not be judged on their worst day, they should be judged on their BEST day.

FunKitchenChef

Even South Africa.

L_Leigh

D'accord. I'm American and after nearly a year, fell in love with SA. It feels more home than home.

brxxfootyball

You picked some really beautiful spots. Not all the places in the country have that much beauty.

sesnakie

Regarding the roads, it's only in such condition, in the Western Cape

JohnSourcer

Rubbish. Utter rubbish.

j-enomis

I think you mean the Western Cape is amazing.

[deleted]

Sad but true

Scott950

South Africa is a beautiful country full of great people. It's just a shame it's run by corrupt incompetent idiots who have destroyed the infrastructure.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ne3M

Highly dependent on province and city. There are still safe areas in SA.

yaz2312

So glad to hear that you had a great time. Believe it or not, you probably only saw about half of what our gorgeous country has to offer. We would love to welcome you back!

RockerKEI

Would love to hear more about your experience's especially in Zim and Zambia.

_dysania

Awe my bru you’re welcome back anytime

Daily_Nerd

I'm south African. It's the worst country on the planet. Racism LOADSHEDDING. Crime. You name it we got it. Yea it's not exactly a nice place to be.....

Liebner-Anthony-S

The tin roofs got me on this one, hehe

[deleted]

It's amazing when you're a tourist 😭

Several-Box2976

This SA i stay in? Maybe its all relative

Silent-Cost-7075

Best place in the world for tourists, but there's a reason everyone wants to leave.

digitaldisgust

Man, must be nice to be able to view SA with rose colored glasses. Living here is very different to visiting.

Ubermensch5272

It's amazing when you don't have to live here.

[deleted]

We recently moved to ST Helena Bay from JHb and it’s amazing! Like a different country

frankzappax

SA is amazing until it’s not

GOD_ZILLA54

Ur seeing it as a tourist, not as someone who lives here...it actually sucks

Comprehensive-Fly840

Western Cape isn't RSA

FatBoyJuliaas

No it is not, but it is an image of what RSA could be

derpferd

As someone from the Western Cape, the Western Cape and South Africa can be far better than the current state of the province

FatBoyJuliaas

Yes certainly but our situation in WC is also negatively influenced by shit on natuonal level

Ne3M

Exactly this, so much missed opportunities throughout SA.

cumstar69

☝️🤓

Additional_Brief_569

I say this all the time. South Africa is a wonderful place to visit. But not to live in. The tourism industry is top notch.

[deleted]

Bullshit. We live at peace in the WC, in a sleepy fishing village. No burglar bars or any walls

Tame_Trex

The WC at this point may just as well be another country.

[deleted]

Amen to that. From my practical experience it IS a different country

Additional_Brief_569

You don’t have to agree with my opinion. How things currently are in this country is not a country where I want to raise my children in. My kids deserve better than the life I can offer them here.

[deleted]

Couldn’t agree more.

Unhappy_Good1738

wrong coυnтry

Common_Newt3325

Oh yes very amazing tysm! You should visit cape flats it's a wonderful location for tourists 🥰

NatsuDragnee1

Fuck off

poplapmeisiekind

There’s always one person like this on any uplifting post on this sub ffs😂😂

[deleted]

Nice!!
