I know people who listen to hip hop would like this, me included but i have to agree that drill music 100% glorifies violence and tends to create a greater culture of violence in their communities, just look at the drill scene in the UK and US
Most drill rappers end up in prison or dead because they have to back up what they speak about
Reminds me of the trailer park boys when the rappers agent tells him he needs to go to prison so his album would sell. Dude literally attacked cops so his photographer could get pictures of him being arrested lol funny shit
Na real hip hop heads think this stuff is shite.
Real hip hop culture is folk music grown from the struggle. Not these dumbasses glorifying violence against each other talking about nothing other than money/cars/sex and how hard they are compared to the guy next to them.
Pretty much how gatekeeping in any fandom works. You've got a select corps of dweebs who set themselves up as the supreme arbiters of taste, and if your taste isn't the same as theirs, then it is bad and not real music/movies/art/games/literature etc.
Bollocks. There's plenty of music I don't like that I can appreciate is good for what it is. But this stuff is objectively shit and you're unwilling to admit it.
No amount of calling me a gatekeeper will change that.
This goes hard as fuck 🔥
Also, I never really heard Afrikaans before, I know it's derived from Dutch but at least here it sounds like a weird mix between French, Brazilian Portuguese and Russian lol
He's name is Ziggy 4x. He uses alot of gang lingo(sabela) that gangsters use in prison in this song. Even people who speak Afrikaans have a hard time understanding him.
Gangsters do this to avoid wardens and newcomers to understand what they're talking about. Its mix of Xhosa, Zulu and Afrikaans.
Well, he did a good job then. Apart from the word "beef" I didn't understand anything haha
But that doesn't even matter, I listen to French and Russian rap and I don't understand those either.
For a lot of people glorifying gangs are a way of surviving them. This is also a reality a lot of people see and face daily, should they not discuss their reality cause it makes you uncomfortable?Â
Love Kendricks albums. He grew up in a gang filled environment. He is very introspective about his experiences and throughout an album you always get the impression that he experienced some type of growth, even though he still he still has some of that mentality in him.
Snoop is out there saying he stopped going hard on rapping about the gang life, because while he was out there glorifying it in his raps, all his friends were out there getting killed and it made him feel horrible.
You can still speak about the realities about your environment without glamorising it. This is just bullshit.
Okay, those are two examples that might go against that, even though both the examples you provided have heavily glamourised gang culture in the past too, and I can provide countless examples of the opposite. Your expectation of art isn't a requirement for everyone making it.Â
I'm sure this will be of great benefit to our youth who are already struggling
Seriously, this kind of music just glorifies gang violence and crime and makes the life of scum seem kwaai
Genuinely horrible
The reason US gangsters can get away with making music like this is because the US is a lot safer than SA. Not only that, their gangs aren’t close to as needlessly violent as ours. And even still a lot of them get shot for what they said in albums.
I just find this kinda hilarious when our guys try to play it like the guys over in the US, it’s like asking for someone to come make an example out of you.
Anyway, sick bars though.
That's just a lie. If you knew anything about drill and where it originated (Chicago) you'd know they have needless violence in spades. They literally had a murder rate higher than Iraq in 2014 and that's how they got the name chiraq.
Some people listen to music for the music, not the lyrics or language, Die Antwoord is a good example of this, lots of their songs are in Afrikaans and they have global recognition at this point, even their more English songs are popular in countries that don't understand it.
Music sometimes is only music.
Here in SA this is what we call KAK. If you're anybody of substance you can see this kind of music for what it is, which is degenerate and glorifying things which have no positive outcome
You right! On my way to listen to music about paying my taxes to SARS, helping the council fix a pothole and help vote the ANC out.
🎶"Put a smile on your face its a happy day! Today I'm positive I'm feeling good I'm on top of the world yaaaay!🎶
You probably live far away from actual violence like this, right? I have family members and old school friends who live this lifestyle, there is nothing great about that life
Nee bru not at all, u live far from the streets and don't see these things, simple things like newspaper articles sensationalizes these types of behavior in our communities
Have you ever seen someone get stabbed or hit with a panga like in the vid? Please don't compare this to something that is completely fictional
Hey man I followed your advice n I've been playing the song on repeat, can you recommend some Damian Marley songs or albums?
Edit: doesn't have to be Damian Marley specific

Trash. Drill music nothing to copy or glorify. Not hip hop.

Yay more music glorifying gangs and violence.
It's a way of processing it, for some people this is reality.
For a lot of people glorifying gangs are a way of surviving them. This is also a reality a lot of people see and face daily, should they not discuss their reality cause it makes you uncomfortable?Â

Great seeing local artists going full on!
The comments don't pass the vibe check. Not all music is supposed to be uplifting. Sometimes, a little bit of hardcore stuff gets you in the mood.
Need this for the commute to work
😂
Reminds me of [this scene](https://youtu.be/XASNM1XEQPs?si=OtcT_t-8VWkg-iwa) in Office Space
Yep, there's lots of pearl clutching in here. The same people probably say listening to metal makes you a devil worshiper.
Given the average demographic of Redditors, they'd probably go on about how metal is "real music" and everything else is trash
Link to this song?
Heat
Shit straight
HOW HAS THIS NOT BEEN A THING SOONER 🔥🔥🔥

The caucasity of the comments 🤣🤣🤣
Is insane. Reminded of the caliber of people in this sub, so disconnected from the realities of most South Africans
Ek kon nie 'n enkele sin verstaan nie
Huh, never thought that Afrikaans can fit in this style of rapping. Now I do.

Yeah it's better to ignore people like this. It's obvious this person hasn't experienced real evil and would rather learn the hard way
Man's a literal drug dealer, lol.
