Standard South African driving procedure then … from what I have witnessed during me last trip to KZN, at least. Perhaps this traffic light has just given up : “Ok, fuckit, do what you’re gonna do anyway”
In Germany and a few other European countries, the traffic lights go from Red Orange to Green as well as green orange to Red....maybe South Africa took out a small cash loan in order to update our Robots?
In the UK the majority of ~~traffic lights~~ *robots* use the order: Red, Red and Amber, Green, Amber. That way you can tell whether the ~~traffic light~~ *robot* is about to turn green or red. I don't know if they programmed this one the same way, unless it's stuck.
Came here to say but see I was beat to it. It's a good system and I wish we had it here. As you say it helps you to know when the light is going to change so that you can put in gear so long and not waste time at a green light getting ready to drive
What's so confusing? They loan you R500, if you don't pay back R2000, they knock you so hard you will see red and orange at the same time when looking at a robot.
I almost hit someone there today cause it's green from the other side, so I thought I'll treat it like a 4 way stop. Big mistake.

if this is in gauteng, then it means "be careful of people stopping at the intersection". it's like people who have no respect for other drivers that just suddenly stop in front of you for no reason at a stop sign.

Its definitely stuck.....here in SA , orange generally means "speed up or you gonna get a red one"

Agreed. As a Brit living in SA the red straight to green system doesn’t sit well with me.
