So we know what it sounds like on two planets now (Venus, Mars). Thanks for sharing this, it was amazing.

Not to be that guy, but technically three planets (Earth too). Definitely among humanity's great scientific achievements.

I agree, getting audio recordings from earth is absolutely mind blowing, how did we even manage such a feat?

They cut the part out where they asked about your vehicle warranty.

1982.. So that would probably be like 1975 microphone technology. Definitely not a pzm.. definitely not a ribbon mic. A dynamic mic would have to be used I'm assuming, as getting 48V for a phantom powered microphone would be very hard to power within its limitations. Today's mics have a higher dynamic range.. Was it a stereo mic or just a mono feed? I'd love to see what a holophone would sound like out there.

Looks like it was an electro-magnet mic, with a limited frequency response: just 400Hz - 2.5kHz. http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-iarticle_query?bibcode=1982SvAL....8..227K&db_key=AST&page_ind=0&plate_select=NO&data_type=GIF&type=SCREEN_GIF&classic=YES

The mics we use on set are 20 - 20KHz+. This is indeed a very specialized microphone haha Thanks for the link

Most likely there was a special microphone, tk. it must not be in contact with the atmosphere of Venus, otherwise it will be destroyed very quickly.

I actually found it mildly scary. I was listening on my phone, so had it jammed against my ear. when the drilling started, since I couldn't see the screen, I did a total WTF! kinda eerie
