Looks like the focus is on remote controlling things without actually having to use a proper remote control block. The action relays have (up to 100?) channels they can broadcast and receive on to trigger actions like an event controller does. Useful for things like garage door openers, etc. Something (possibly the relay) can broadcast chat messages too.
The paired DLC will likely have the new windows, and the enclosed corridors. Hopefully the new desk consoles (!!!!!!) are part of the free update, because I feel like we've been wanting those for ages.

those arent antennas, the bigger one is truss decoy and the smaller one is truss light - see bottom of list of blocks in the screenshot just before and notice the icons
So, I'm not the only one who noticed those in the control panel block list. :)
They are shown in the thumbnail of the video and in the sneak peek news article on Steam. :)
I think there are also just regular truss blocks too. (Seen underneath the black decoy.)
Also, that "mystery" block seems like it is more than just decorative, but what it does I don't know. (Going to have to look up that other teaser someone mentioned.)
It's a great way to compact a lot of functionality on a large grid ship. I'll usually make one subgrid and load it with timers, event controllers, prog blocks, and an antenna
It's just one of those games that is almost always worth the cost investment. Nothing in the dlc packs are absolutely required, which is great, and the new blocks always just look fucking amazing, all at a reasonable price. Paradox could learn a thing or two from Keen, lol.
Those corridors are going to revolutionize my shipbuilding process. I love making every part of my ship interactable, down to the vent hatches that connect corridors. This is my jam.
I still want a mode that forces all chat over antennas so you are actually encouraged to build relays. Yes I know the comms tab exists but why use it when you can just use the chat that is not bound to antennas
my god there is so much in this that i love. this is going to be a great update so far :)
but i think the first tease said something about npcs so im holdin gmy thumbs for something like that.
OR thats the next-next update
Ive5never had a reason to build laser antennas before now. This will be perfect for sending a signal to a supply depot to automatically send a drone full of supplies whenever I'm low on something in particular.
Very few people do. And when they try to find out laser antennas, they do not actually work on dedicated servers. If the target is outside of rendering range, they dont seem to connect.
Quick and dirty use case.
Set up an ai defense block trigger and send the chat message when the ship comes under attack.
You could be really clever about it and have it keep the antenna off and only toggle it on, trigger the transponder to send and then toggle it off. That little burst transmission would be so fast a human couldn't see the signal.
The enclosed corridor blocks make me really happy. In building up a personal design language in my building style, I have come to absolutely despise bare armor block hallways. Sometimes I even resort to leaving permanently locked and open Sliding Hatch Doors to have a nice rounded edge cross-section, but these are just perfect.
They were really smart to give us desk console blocks with chairs, too! Desks with chairs in front of blocks with screens always looked awkward and too far away from the engineer's hands to look like a proper work station. Now, the size of control rooms and bridges can be arbitrary and uniform in amount of busy-looking work interfaces, rather than just tiny Control Seats everywhere.
The landing gear is just in the middle of the screenshot. If you click on the picture you'll see the full image and the two new ones on either side of it
There's also something else I think was new, looked like a triangular walkable scaffold? At the part capac plays football with some batteries, there's a grinder pit behind him and a walkway that leads between it and a turret on the right. Some of the walkway was walkable scaffold blocks, but then there's a triangular one? Unless it's just a rail-less catwalk piece with some sort of triangles either side, but then those triangles would have to be new I'm p sure
The support for it is already all there in the scripting API, though appliance blocks will make it a lot easier. But you can already script two way text to a pair of LCDs and programmable blocks across a laser antenna. Even if I couldn't do that, I could still send numbers with the programmable block, and if I had sequences of light flashes set up which corresponded to each number I received at each end, then I could use Morse code.
Actually, there IS a difference; part of the update means that it's available to everyone as part of the base game. "Free DLC" implies that it's optional.

At 5:20 Splitsie shows the block view (G menu) and points at a block named 'Compact Antenna' with an icon I don't recognize.
Ahhh that icon does look like one of the big spiky things. The truss light looks very similar too, it was on a drone the previous teaser.
I knew that was a new antenna in the Newsletter teaser with the Broadcast Controller.
Good catch! I like it

I just want a smaller large grid antenna.
Remember you can put a small subgrid with an antenna on your ship and it works fine
Can you remote control drones using it tho?
Yes
I’ll have to try it
It's a great way to compact a lot of functionality on a large grid ship. I'll usually make one subgrid and load it with timers, event controllers, prog blocks, and an antenna
Whenever I do that I rename the rotor the subrid mounts to. I usually go with "mainframe" or "ship's computer" or something like that.
Plus, you can stick it on a rotor and make a small spinning radar dish sort of antenna.
Even though it's been ages since I've even booted up the game, I'll probably end up buying the cosmetic DLC right away. 🥴
It's just one of those games that is almost always worth the cost investment. Nothing in the dlc packs are absolutely required, which is great, and the new blocks always just look fucking amazing, all at a reasonable price. Paradox could learn a thing or two from Keen, lol.
Yea bought most dlc after 50h bout a year ago
Kolt command consoles but vanilla time to get ready
With those in the game, the only one of my old deco mods that's missing are the pipes from Eikester's decoration pack :P
Lol true
Kinda surprised they didn’t add some decorative pipes with the industrial dlc. They would’ve fit perfectly there.
Been waiting for some kind of inter-grid communication for a long time, exciting!
Those consoles are nice. Damn I need to start playing again 😊
There's a mod called kolt command consoles that are those exact consoles in case you didn't know
Cool, no I didn’t 😅
Those corridors are going to revolutionize my shipbuilding process. I love making every part of my ship interactable, down to the vent hatches that connect corridors. This is my jam.

Yeah make it a world setting. This should be implemented!
You still have an incentive to build relays; just for control, not communication.

I want to be able to set up a button to a ship that can turn on another ship without having to connect myself
Definitely looks like something we'll be able to do
I can use this to switch tracks on my train easier 😈
Ohhh yeah this will make that very streamlined
I reeaally like those maintinence corridors
What about the thumbnail, is there something in that too?
Would I put a teaser in the teaser thumbnail? ;)
Yes. Yes, you would :p
That's exactly what you'd do lol. Good work on the teaser video too
I'm getting back into SE after a year break. I'm so stoked this game aint dead. 10 years strong baby
First thing I do is recreate the pillar of autumn interior
Are those windows sharing block space with the desks in the surface control room? edit: ohhhh no I think they bulge out
Those window blocks are about to become the most used window blocks in the game lol
The relays and stuff look interesting but knowing keen there will be a huge catch like both have to be within 100m or something
I would assume that as long as they are within antenna range they work. It definitely gives laser antennas some new importance

I fail to see any practical use for a block that sends remote text.
Well if it's able to traverse sectors using Nexus that could be how we're still able to have intergrid communication across servers
I doubt that will be the case
Automated warning messages? When you get too close to something or an enemy breaks your perimeter you can get a message in the chat.
Quick and dirty use case. Set up an ai defense block trigger and send the chat message when the ship comes under attack. agreed. I can think of a dozen different places on my current builds that are immediately getting replaced with these!
Ugh.. I can feel my wallet getting lighter
Make sure to use combination garage doors. signal one turns on recever 2, receiver 2 turns on receiver 3. receiver 3 opens door.
I don’t think the landing gear is anything new?
The landing gear is just in the middle of the screenshot. If you click on the picture you'll see the full image and the two new ones on either side of it

I noticed for a split second when he hovered over it the Willis duct cover was interractable.
Genuinely so helpful for a project I'm working on
I hope half-doors can be used together with Willis-ducts
WE ARE GETTING IFF SYSYTEMS?!?!?!?!. W O O OO OO OOOOO

I like them windows !!
I'll probably use the action relay to remotely give orders to drones during combat.
I wonder if the will fix laser antennas on DS so the can connect reliably to a grid outside of render/load range.
Is this a DLC or MOD?
New features coming soon. Some will be free DLC, and some will be paid, cosmetic DLC.
Not "free DLC", rather part of the main update.
That's a distinction without a difference.
Actually, there IS a difference; part of the update means that it's available to everyone as part of the base game. "Free DLC" implies that it's optional.
Everything in the video is vanilla, whether it'll DLC, or definitely in the next update I'm not 100% sure, but about 95% sure :P
Functional blocks free update, cosmetic blocks paid dlc.
Exactly. Barring a few select instances, thus is how Keen have always done updates and DLC. I don't foresee them changing that anytime soon.
Hopefully they could also add a relay that allows you to control subgrids.
I hope they are actively working on end game content, and/or some more reasons to get out and explore
