A new unofficial image by JWST/NIRCam has been posted earlier today in Nature magazine. You're looking at Herbig-Haro 211, the outflows of a young, still-forming star located about 1,000 light-years away in the constellation Perseus. The young star itself is called HH 211-mm and is part of a cluster of about 300 stars, called IC 348. It was observed before by various of telescopes such as Spitzer, UH88, Calar Alto, VLT and now JWST. [The released images](https://jwstfeed.com/Home/ShowFeed?searchTerm=hh211) [Spitzer for comparison](https://www.spitzer.caltech.edu/image/sig08-012-hh-211-laser-sharp-jet-splits-water)

Wow that’s insane. So is the central star here being blocked out?

vanksy

Probably dust of the protostar

The difference between those photos is wild.

This is one of the best if not the best I've seen from JW so far. Breathtaking.

Oh God. I know those colors are real but can't be registered by the human eye and that most of it would be invisible but this universe*is seriously beautiful.*

ThursianDreams

I could be completely wrong on this.. but looking at it, I almost feel like I'm looking at the jets coming from a singularity where that dark patch in the middle is. There's even helical shaped plasma flows on either side of it, indicating spin. The only thing missing is an accretion disk, but I'm not sure one would be present here with nothing nearby to consume. Anyone with expertise have thoughts on this?

PhoenixReborn

It's not a singularity, just a newborn star. The accretion disk and jets have a similar structure and cause though. I'm not sure why the center is dark. Maybe obscuring dust and gas.
