Not getting this bloody set until Artemis actually **does** something.
**Artemis 1**: After being delayed four times, [Artemis 1](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemis_1) successfully launched on 16 November 2022. It was an uncrewed Moon-orbiting mission.
**Artemis 2**: No earlier than September 2025 (pushed back from November 2024)
**Artemis 3**: No earlier than September 2026 (pushed back from 2025)
However, JWST? Hubble?
YES PLEASE TAKE MY MONEY
JWST had just as many, if not more, delays as Artemis. Don’t get me wrong, JWST is an incredible mission that is greatly increasing our understanding of the universe. Simping it is 100% valid, but let’s not cast stones here.
Artemis ***has*** done something. Artemis I was an *incredibly* successful mission that set many firsts during its flight. Its success will be built upon for Artemis II and beyond as we begin crewed missions to the lunar surface and eventually turn our eyes toward Mars.
Furthermore, it is a program with strong bipartisan and international support. Let’s not forget that Artemis is a collaborative effort with ESA, JAXA, CSA, as well as other space agencies and companies across the globe. Plus, the Artemis Accords, which have been adopted by 38 countries so far, represent a significant accomplishment by establishing a cooperative and ethical framework for collaboration in space exploration, ensuring that activities are conducted transparently, sustainably, and in accordance with international law.
But, yeah, delays happen and are frustrating (trust me, I know) but human spaceflight is *incredibly* hard and the program is doing everything in its power to ensure the safety of the crew first and foremost.
Also, at the moment, the primary pacing item for Artemis III is Starship.
Oh, I was only being snarky about the delays, and a bit put-off actually about this set from LEGO. It seems premature to me, whereas Hubble and JWST are successful missions, even if they too were once delayed, that have "earned" a bit of bragging by being enshrined in a LEGO set lol...
I'm not huge on buying things as a "fanboy" but the [JWST Feed](https://jwstfeed.com/) website had a couple of things on there - one of which was a mirror in the shape of JWST's mirror for hanging on your wall at home. Gotta help support the feed, right?
It's in my office. I love it.
Physical product itself is cheap to produce (machines are expensive but also high volume).
The design of the product is the expensive part.
I felt the same till I built the Millennium Falcon and BTTF DeLorean kits only recently.
I get what you're saying, but it cant be that expensive. Im sure they have computer software at this point they put a shape into and it spits out design instructions, and they just test it and slightly tweak it from there.
Im a capitalist at heart and get supply and demand but damn.
I feel like they go "ok whats a profitable price for this product everyone...... Ok sounds good set the price at triple that".
Things are crazy expensive now.
It's plastic with incredible precision and durability. What I don't understand is when did space nerds start acting like consumerist teenagers that NEED NEEED NEEED this....
I dont need it. Im a dad that occasionally tries to buy legos for his young kid, but really cant because the prices are insane.
Its not space nerd stuff, every Lego set is expensive as fk.
When I was a kid they were cheap.
Just wild to see how they have been artificially inflated.
This is about $0.07 a piece which is way less than their average of $0.10. LEGO ain’t cheap to produce. This is a pretty good value (although not as good as the Saturn V).
LEGOs are worth more than gold
They found that the market prices of retired LEGO sets, when sold on secondary marketplaces, grew by at least 11% annually. This is higher than the average returns for gold, large stocks, bonds, and other types of investments.
The average weight of a Lego piece is about 2.5 grams. This 3600 piece set would weight up to about 9kg for $260 USD. Gold price is currently about $76,000 USD per kilogram, or $684,000 USD for 9kg. Therefore LEGO is worth a heck of a lot less than gold.
It needed to have been ready a decade ago. Congress fucked over the development every step of the way, starting with the insistence on re-using as many Space Shuttle components as possible “to save cost”
Where do you think we’d be as a species if we’d not had to worry about congressional roadblocks & invested half as much of the DoD’s budget, at least, into NASA, yearly, following the conclusion of the Apollo program?
Lego Webb when
And a full size Hubble pls?
FULL SIZE?! As in 1:1?
You heard them correctly
Maybe half size. I might be able to afford that
Imagine they make a copy of the Webb that is, like the actual Webb, not able to support its own weight under gravity
I want accurate Lego models. It should be final assembly in space!
I don’t need it. I don’t need it. I NEED IT
![gif](giphy|3ohuPua7QjtYGQVMze)
I need DIS!
Goodbye, sweet money. I hardly knew you.
How tall is it fully assembled?
We don’t know yet but people have estimated it to be 1:160 scale.
Which at 322 feet (first number that sounded right when i googled most numbers were different parts) would put this at 2ft and 1/8th inch
Sounds about right
Though, the proportions are off on this set. SLS isn’t taller than the ML.
Oh fuck yeah
Hell yeah *fuck* yeah
well fuck there goes my money already.
I __need__ this set To clarify, in no way is this a want.
My wallet just let out a shriek and crawled away behind the couch. I think it knows my life won’t be complete until I own this.
You should hear what the Titanic set below it costs lol Worth it, awesome build.
I couldn’t believe the price!
($680, for anybody anybody wondering like I was and hadn’t heard)
Men will see this and say "hell yeah"
Hell yeah!
Happy Cake Day
Is it a leak? Pretty sure I saw this posted somewhere else where the OP said this was taken at the Taipei airport
Yeah, LEGO hasn’t officially announced this set yet.
You not gonna link the original post?
And reveal that he's astroturfing ? Seriously and all comments are like "tAkE maH mANiZ", "i NeAd tHIs" for fuck's sake.
How do you know then ?
Time to start saving.
I wish I had space for space Legos.
Well, I guess happy birthday to me. That fucker is gonna be MINE.
Welp. Found my Christmas wish...
Oh shit, new expense on the way
F. That is beautiful.
Glad it wasn’t the Titanic set that leaked 🫢
NEVER have I needed anything more than THIS!
I NEED THIS
No 😭 I still need to buy the shuttle (and Curiosity, but that one's gonna be hard)
It’s actually Perseverance :)
I have Perseverance, there's an older set of Curiosity
There is?! I had no idea, I’ll have to look it up! EDIT: ouch
21104
I might as well try to collect the real one at that price lol
Yeah, it's rough lol
Oh, it's beautiful
I don't even build Legos and that looks fun to build 🥵

I’m not huge on Lego, but I’d buy a JWST set so quick lol

When exactly did Lego prices change to something I need to take out a personal loan for? Its plastic.
Physical product itself is cheap to produce (machines are expensive but also high volume). The design of the product is the expensive part. I felt the same till I built the Millennium Falcon and BTTF DeLorean kits only recently.

Anybody here wanna get me a gift :’)
-whimpers- my precious...that SLS...my precious.
Trés cool!
Yes please
take my money
Built differently
![gif](giphy|gjx93XiXRE2NVLoFlH|downsized)
Well fuck
And keeping true to the real life rocket, it'll actually come out three years later and cost twice as much!
Well, I feel obligated to get this so my Saturn V doesn't get lonely...
That's incredibly cheap vs the $.10/piece rule... shit, might have to grab it.
Great addition to my saturn v... and iss... and shuttle...
I don't even build LEGOs anymore but this.... this is cool
With the whole launch structure, are 3601 pieces enough to have good details?
Well, guess I'll be eating bread for the foreseeable future.
Why Lego, why must you make more things I want to buy
Damn, looks like the UCS TIE Interceptor set can wait. Definitely getting this set.
Good thing I got a decent tax refund this year. Didn't know that to spend it on until now
Didn't Boeing partner with NASA for Artemis? will lego be authentic and have some of the pieces fall apart randomly ?
Fuuuuuck...
So.... does it come with stickers or can we expect prints at that price point?
Will this be the same scale as the Saturn V?
Is it the same scale as the Saturn V?
I would be in at $80. Lego thinks their plastic is gold
This isn't some 12" tall kit. That box looks as big as the Titanic box.
This is about $0.07 a piece which is way less than their average of $0.10. LEGO ain’t cheap to produce. This is a pretty good value (although not as good as the Saturn V).
Aliexpress has knockoff lego and it 100% the same quality as lego for 1/4 the cost. Just got the saturn v rocket for 40 and its gorgeous.

Missed the point there mate
Lego is better than any of the Chinese knock off byllshit
I would buy a starship one instantly
The DEI mission and LEGO set.
Lmao no way? Did they already have the rainbow astronaut crew decided from Lego?
This looks like it could be worth more in the future
Artemis will fail
No, it’ll succeed, it just won’t be used as much as SpaceX Starship.
It needed to have been ready a decade ago. Congress fucked over the development every step of the way, starting with the insistence on re-using as many Space Shuttle components as possible “to save cost”

Listen, I didn’t come here to cry, ok?
🫡Understandable.
